I have been frequenting Little locks La Jolla for 15-mos & have been pleased with their services! However, staff turnover aka Barber Sarah & lack of Customer Service care aka Staff Receptionist & Other Barbers are current significant issues!! I made an appointment with the Owner/Romi Saini, whom owns 2-Little Lock shops, La Jolla & Solana Beach, for the first slot at Opening/9am on a Sat given i had a significantly busy Saturday & was flying out on a business trip the following day. I arrived 5-mins early & the shop/door had not opened as of yet. Waiting a few steps in front of me was a couple with their son. Upon the staff opening the shop/door, keeping in mind my appointment with Irma T, Irma T immediately guided the couple & their son to the barber chair & the receptionist asked &/or said nothing to me. I mentioned to the receptionist that i had an appointment for the first slot at Opening/9am and asked her to call the Owner/Romi Saini however to no avail. I then called Owner/Romi Saini at her other/Solana Beach location & the staff indicated she was not there however upon pressing them for a call-back, she would call me back. Owner/Romi Saini called me back. Greeting customers & Asking if the customer has an Appointment is "Business 101"!!! They don't do this!!! Awful. Went for a haircut for my little one. Oh my, this place needs some staff training. My little one was little nervous but sat peacefully. Was there to have my kids haircut. We were 2 mins late to the appointment. When we reached there was already a kid getting the haircut from the previous time slot. So we waited another 20 mins. In the meantime, the people who had the slot after us showed up. The hair stylist bumped us to a later slot and gave hair cut to that kid and made us wait another 20 mins. Wow!!! Mediocre at best, but probably still the best kid's option in SD Was booking random stylists at La Jolla location for over a year, but became frustrated with the lack of consistency. Finally, we saw many positive reviews for Mylisa, so we started booking with her. At that point we started to be informed that requesting a haircut with only scissors takes more time, thus they had to charge more. Seems fair, not a problem. The problem is booking a 20 minute cut and watching the haircut being extremely rushed, to the point that it was over in 10-12 minutes. OK, so it takes more time and you have to charge more, but you rush it anyways? Because of the rushed cuts, they were still inconsistent, to the point where there were weird chunks missing from the bangs, that we would only notice after washing the hair. All said, it's a pain to drive into the Birdrock area of La Jolla, so we decided that paying a few bucks more at a bougie salon (where it's not rushed) was the better option. We have no plans to return and can't say we'd recommend this place to our friends/family. read more

Sadly, I can't recommend this business. We arrived 4 whole minutes late for our appt. The two stylist that were working were already well into doing two other little kids' hair. Clearly they hadn't honored the appointment at all because how could they possibly be half way through a haircut if there was an appt that started 4 mins ago. No one said anything, no one greeted us, no one said "we will be right with you". Another mom and her son came in, stood around, got no greeting, no 'hello' and they left. Finally asked if our appointment had been skipped and one of the stylist turns around and sharply says "wellllll, you were late so we moved the schedule around". Nice. It was a great experience, she was so kind with the kids and got them done very quickly, neatly - the boys look great and had a great time. She kept checking in to make sure I was satisfied. My family came down to visit SD for the first time and decided to get my nephew a haircut. I brought them to this establishment in hopes for a wonderful experience. If there was a way to put negative star review I would post that. The customer service was beyond unprofessional and horrid. Once they entered the establishment, no one greeted them. They sat there for about 5 minutes then a mom who is white walked in with 2 kids. She was greeted immediately, the stylist spoke to her asked who was first. My cousin who is a person of color replied she has been sitting there for 5 minutes and asked the stylist are they taking walk-ins, and she said no, but they take the mom and her kids immediately! How can you ask someone who is first, but take a mom who walked in after and say you only take appointments! This makes no sense at all and definitely shows that discrimination truly exists. This is such a tense time in our society and for this to occur at a place where your supposed to make people feel welcome and walk out feeling better, is unacceptable! At the end my cousin and my nephew walked out and didn't say a word. I hope that this business takes a long look at itself and makes some serious changes on how they treat people of color! read more

I really liked how they did the back of my kid's hair. He was afraid of the razor and the stylist let him touch it, joked about how it tickled, etc, and he let her use it without getting upset. That part was terrific. But the bangs-- oh his bangs. She combed them to the side and set them with pomade, and I thought it was a cute cut at the time. Later when we got home and washed it out- what happened here?! I feel duped, and kinda mad. It looks terrible and there's no way to even it out without chopping it way too short. read more

I am so pleased with my little man's hair cut! Ellen did an amazing job with his hair and my husband and I couldn't be more pleased. She was patient with our little guy when he started crying and worked around it. She was really nice to him and us and wasn't bothered at all with him crying out for me to be right next to him. It helped that this cute place has Lightening McQueen for the kiddos to sit in while getting their hair cut. They also have a cool race car and a motorcycle if that's more of your Little's forte. In addition to the seats disguised as cars, they also have an iPad or a screen to play cartoons or movies to distract your little one (if you are okay with screen time.) If you are in search for a place to get your little one's hair cut at, search no more! My advice for those with kids who are nervous or if you are nervous about a melt down occurring during the cut, bring them in a little earlier to play with the toys at the front and have them get comfortable with the place. I was scared to bring in our guy for a hair cut for so long because he wasn't too happy being there and was overwhelmed at another location we took him to last year. Finally was able to get my sons hair cut! Not because of covid but because he won't let anyone cut his hair. They have a great set up with the cars, toy store and movies playing in the mirror for children to watch. It took a lot of coaching but his hair is now cut. One thing I will note, they weren't that welcoming and I had to do most of the introduction. They were just opening so maybe they were distracted but still could have been a little more welcoming.
