Purchased a sweatshirt for $45 here. Dripped something on it and treated/washed it (like with any other piece of clothing) and the color completely came out of the sweatshirt. I called and Dave was rude and condescending. Told me it was because of the way the sweatshirt is dyed. Says all of his clothing of this type has stains. I said it should come with a warning. He told me it was the first time in 40 years he's had to have this conversation. So rude. It's the first time in near 50 years I've had to try to justify why I am unhappy about the sweatshirt. Of course no receipt - wore it out the door as it was raining. Resolution was keep it in a bag and bring it back next time I'm in San Diego or mail it for a new one with prepaid packaging to mail it back. If you know you are selling items that commonly do this, warn the customer, put up signing or remove the item from your store! read more

Vacationing in pacific beach and stopped Paradise cove for rentals for boogie boards and wetsuits. Chris and Drew were there to assist us? They both were very friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and encouraging. They went beyond the call of duty insuring we were well fit and understood how to use items and where it was safe to get in the ocean! They made us feel like they genuinely cared if we were safe and if we had fun or not! read more

This place was... interesting. We walked in looking for some simple souvenirs, and ended up getting more than we bargained for experience wise. The dude who was running the register was constantly yelling at someone on the other end of his phone about his cell phone charger, while checking another customer out. Very classy, bro. Also, while my wife and I were browsing the store, the clerk was almost on top of us, acting like we were going to steal something. It was even kinda entertaining how painfully obvious he was about it because every corner we turned, there he was; waiting with baited breath, staring, even... drooling? We definitely (at least in my opinion) don't look like the type, but whatever. After a while I started just having fun with it and darting around corners to see if he could help someone and keep an eye on me. It was pretty funny watching him scramble. Finally, it was time to pay, I pulled out a 50, and he finally looked me in the eyes. Wow. Don't go here if you don't like being profiled, followed, or feeling like a criminal. Eff this place. When we returned the board, he demanded a $40 charge without letting us talk to upper management because "Dave doesn't like to be bothered." My daughter and I walked in carrying our covered soda take out cup. The older man behind the counter, in an unfriendly tone, told us that we could put our cup on the counter if we wanted to shop. I looked up at him and started to tell my daughter to let's leave and I didn't even get that far. He started mocking me saying "arriva derche", "adios", "see ya". I was bewildered and shocked at the nastiness of this man, who I imagine is the owner and pissed off at life and people. What a way for him to start his New Year. We have been stopping at this shop for our souveniers for over 20 years. Dave has always been nice and very helpful. I saw the post where someone grumbled the prices are too high. Yes, the prices are tiny bit more, but that's because quality of the tee shirts and sweat shirts is superior to that of the other shops on the area. You get what you pay for. We'll be back to visit from Vegas in Novemeber and this is where I'll get my souveniers. read more

Parking and waiting time is a little on the bad side but once your seared and are able to get your food its pretty much solid comings. I had a great experience with the guys at Paradise Cove (Chris and David?). My daughter and I bought a kite, admittedly the cheapest one in the store, and when it was short parts, they went out of their way to help me get it working. They opened another kite for parts, and when there weren't any that worked, they just gave me a different kite (they also offered to give me a refund, but my girl was set of flying a kite!). This clothing and trinket store has a prime location at the base of the pier in pacific beach. Too bad the people who work there are complete jerks. The clothing selection is very busy, as in too much old crap shoved on the racks. The only thing in greater supply than the crap on the racks is the over inflated prices and rude attitude you'll get from the old guy. Seriously dude, you are older than dirt and you work at a minimum wage job in a tourist trap store, that doesn't make you the ruler of the world. People, save your time, money, and well deserved vacation memories and shop elsewhere. This place is a total dud. read more

It seems like there have been quite a few unhappy customers here, but we didn't have a bad experience. We were looking for a place that rented boogie boards, and this place does. They also rent wet suits and surf boards. The guy working let us keep the boards a little longer without charging us extra, which was nice. It wasn't expensive to rent per hour either. You do have to put down a deposit per board, but you don't get charged unless you don't return the board. They also have a nice gift shop full of a variety of San Diego items to take home. It is pricey, but all of these shops are. There is a rule that you have to leave your drinks at the counter, which we did. It sounds like that has been an issue with some people, and that he has been rude in the past. He wasn't rude to us at all...so I don't know. Needless to say, it's overpriced as far as gift shop items, but the rest of the experience was smooth. read more

I went in here to pick up some T-Shirts for my Dad who just lost his home in the Camp Fire. This is my Dad's favorite place to go when he visits SD. He always wants to come and get a new shirt. He lost everything except 3 shirts, which he packed upon evacuation, all from Paradise Cove. I picked up one shirt and told the man behind the counter my Dad's story. He lovingly gave me a discount and also gave me another shirt as a gift for my Dad. I thought that was SO thoughtful! Thank you Paradise Cove for your love and outreach!! Do not shop here, went in to buy a beach towel and I grabbed the wrong one thinking it was a different price because it was the same design and it rang up more and I said I thought it was cheaper and the owner said hey someone help her she's confused I know how much things are in my shop I've owned this place for 20 some years. Rudest clerks I've ever come across of in my 28 years life of existence. Came in with an ice cream and was shouted at to leave and come back when I'm done eating. I duly accepted, and came back 5min later as I finished my ice cream, but with a bottle of water this time. Same story. Shouted at me to leave the bottle of water by the counter. This store sold a faulty kite to my nephew, It had parts missing and the wrong directions (instructions for a different kite) They refused to refund the money and they refused to try and find the correct instructions. When you sell cheap crap from China, you should be prepared to help customers when the package does not contain what is advertised. they stole ten bucks from a 12 year old who only wanted to fly a kite. Paradise Cove is the most beautiful beach in Southern California! The restaurant has an amazing view, good food and great drinks. It can get crowded in the summer. I did not go to see stars or by a t-shirt. I went to spend time on the beach and it was wonderful! read more
