Doud's is a small market, but it has lots of stuff. As far as I know, this is one of the only markets on Mackinac Island. There actually is another Doud's down Main Street toward the ferry area, but it's a smaller grab-and-go convenience store, mostly with snacks and coffee. My hotel was right across the street, so I bopped into Doud's a couple of times during my stay, to grab a bottle of wine (they have a decent selection of wine), some candy for my kids, and some fruit because I needed to eat something fresh. The store is tidy and everything is arranged nicely. They also have self-checkout kiosks, so you can get in and out quickly.

Prices were decent, especially for a smaller market, and they had a surprising amount of locally made goods. Produce selection was a little small (we had to go into Sutton's Bay to get oranges, for example) but all pantry items we needed were easy to find. The shop, because it's small, makes checking out a little challenging when there are more than a few folks in there. At one point my mom and I were looking at the ice cream selection and a line of about 4 people filed behind us. We didn't realize the coolers were adjacent to the second cash register! Navigating out was a challenge but everyone was very kind about it. Admittedly, though I read the amazing reviews for their Indian eats, we did not get any. It appeared that this would be a special place so we made a reservation for the next week, July 23rd at 6pm. On July 23rd, circumstances found us away from Charlevoix and so at 11:30am I called to cancel the reservation. Here is where it gets a little crazy. The owner answers and he becomes angry with me for canceling. He wants to know why. I explain we are out of town. He says, "Oh, so you are the only one with a life and you think you are very important". I apologize that we cannot make the reservation, he says,"Don't ever call here again" and then disconnects the call before I can respond. I was about to spend $300 to $400 on a meal at this restaurant, very strange customer service. Giving a restaurant plenty of notice (7 hours), I have never experienced rudeness on this level before.
