The Little Pub My siblings and I are looking for a gathering place suitable for a birthday celebration for one of our sisters in January 2025. While browsing online I saw a listing for a beachfront hotel in Connecticut that was known to our family before new owners took it over a few years ago. The Surfside Hotel took what had been Marnick's Motel and upgraded it in the past few years. Attached to the Surfside is The Little Pub. My hope was that the Pub might serve us well as we selected a venue for our gathering. I spent the night earlier this month at Surfside and had dinner at the Pub. Service was excellent, the bar was well-stocked, and the dining area had real charm - aided in part by a nice fire in the stone fireplace. Drinks were reasonably priced and promptly presented. I started with the New England clam chowder and found it piping hot and very tasty. I had the beef fajitas - more than I could finish but nicely seasoned and again, right-off-the-grill hot. My visit was a good one, and it seemed from the vibe the bar patrons love the Little Pub. I can understand their positive attitude. Things to keep in mind: brunch is served starting at 10 a.m. but only on Saturday and Sunday; otherwise, the pub opens at 11:30 a.m.; the bar may be open after 9 p.m. depending on the day. read more

We were staying at the surfside hotel attached to Little Pub and the restaurant service was terrible. Unfortunately, we were ignored after receiving our food for more than 25 minutes on a night that was not busy. This was also a birthday staycation for my wife which ruined our experience. The hotel was great but little pub service was not. In addition to the bad service we also had a whole avocado pit in the wrap we ordered and couldn't finish the meal. We went down the street to Riley's afterwards and had great service. read more

They don't take reservations not even for a party of five. I'm not showing up with five people and standing around waiting for a table here. Frankly the food isn't that great that I'd want us to waste our time standing in their hallway. Very disrespectful to the consumer to not take reservations in this day and age of open table. We came here for lunch with a few friends on a Monday at lunchtime. Place wasn't packed. Lots of empty tables but our party of 7 had to wait almost 15 minutes to be seated. So not a good start. If they were short staffed, it definitely didn't look like it. Anyway took a while for a waitress to show up and get our drink order. She wasn't particularly happy or helpful. Got in some apps then ordered lunch. The food was really good with one notable exception. The patty melt was served to one of our party on a bun vs rye bread, which the menu clearly stated was supposed to be rye. So not a patty melt. We went over to Little Pub for the first time. The last time I was there it was Marnicks! They did a fantastic job renovating the restaurant. The main bar area is inviting and gives that wonderful beach view that I always went there for! The food was fantastic. My husband got the chicken sandwich and raved about it! I started with a massive (awesome) pretzel. It came with a massive bowl of cheese and honey mustard. I will always pick a big soft pretzel and honey mustard and I would pick this one again for sure. I rounded off the meal with the sticky chicken bites. My friends got "buck a shuck" oysters and were very happy with how fresh they were. The two frozen drinks were absolutely awesome. Frozen appletini was everything I didn't know I wanted. The night ended with pickle back shots. The debate may be out about pickle backs, but this spot was great. read more

Can't believe I've never Yelp'd this place, I've been here a lot. Such an affordable neat place overlooking the ocean and the Stratford seawall. I love everything about this place, the location, decor, seating I can go on forever. They have a patio with an outdoor bar for warm sunny days and comfortable seating inside as well. Service is always on point, place always has great specials as well. Went here again recently this past Monday for an early dinner. My wife and I got the Sticky Nuggets for an app, truly unique and delicious. Good size serving of boneless wings tossed in General Tso's, trust me it's amazing. For my entree I got the Habanero Jack Burger, cooked a perfect medium rare with pepper jack, jalapeños, smoked bacon and a habanero aioli which gives it a nice kick, good size as well. First time here was for lunch on a Sunday. Place was crazy packed since it was a nice day out. Gorgeous view and right on the water. For an appetizer we got the Buffalo cauliflower (gluten free) it definitely had quite the kick to it so just be aware and also slightly undercooked. But overall pretty good. For my main meal I wound up getting the cilantro lime chicken salad which I enjoyed. The chicken was very flavorful and tender and got a nice fresh half of avocado. I would definitely come back here and would like to try some of their other items on the menu. I would say there a good variety for just about anyone. read more

Start with the ambiance. Maybe it's just my bad luck but the last two times we have been here they have had half or nearly half of the small dining area taken up by very large groups. Tonight's treat was a group of more than 20 sorority type girls, letting out piercing screeches and randomly banging on the tables the entire time. If they're going to accommodate groups that large they really need more servers. We always get slighted for bigger tips and it's disappointing. Tonight they hosted what appeared to be a very large group of sorority sisters who were celebrating a birthday. We know they were celebrating a birthday because they felt free to clink on their glassware, wedding style and give loud speeches in the middle of the restaurant while the rest of us looked on like unwitting wedding guests. No one tried to rein them in at all. They were standing up, dancing, running back and forth to the bathroom in groups of up to ten at a time, weaving in between the close set tables of other guests. I do get that the restaurant isn't going to turn away all that money but idk. I felt like a host could have maybe reminded them that they were not at a frat house and that other people exist and are paying customers too. It was a milestone birthday celebration for me too and it was disappointing. I know that the restaurants bottom line is money and that they aren't going to do a single thing to jeopardize a big tip and a big tab but a word to the wise that this has been a circumstance several times when I've been to this restaurant. Having said that, the food was not up to the usual standard tonight either. The steak tips were tough but sides were good. The pickle wings were interesting and we will probably give it one mire chance. But if we encounter this party room atmosphere again that'll be it for us. Third strike and all. read more

Waitstaff was great, atmosphere was great, but I opened my box to heat up my leftovers and the bug in the photo fell out of my sandwich. I've been wanting to try any of the Little Pub's for nearly 10 years, I think way longer than this location has been open, but for whatever reason it just never did. Finally had a reason to be in the area for dinner and made a point to come. No idea why this only has a 3-1/2 star rating. I'm not sure if it's quite a 5, but I want to help bump it up a bit. My only issue is it met and didn't exceed my expectations but they very high so it's not really their fault. Menu was on the larger side and had a lot of creativity which is always a huge plus to me and almost as important as execution. When I go out to eat I want something interesting and unique. Sure there was a lot of standard beach restaurant classics, but lots of things with a twist. Location couldn't be better. Adjacent to a tiny beach with lots of free parking. You wouldn't come here to swim but I could totally see someone coming to relax with a book and catching some rays during a staycation. Food was great and came out almost too quickly (less than 15 minutes, maybe closer to 10 at 5:30 on a nice summer Saturday). My wife got the Kick'n Chicken Sandwich, my daughter got the Sticky Nuggets, and I got the Three Hands burger with BBQ instead of Buffalo sauce. All was great, only negative is the fries could have used another 30 seconds in the fryer. We didn't have drinks, but $50 before tip for 3 people seemed pretty reasonable. Busy and short staffed is not a good intro. We have been here over an hour and 30. The poor waitress is trying hard but its to much, and then food orders made come out wrong, which creates re work, long delays add to the angst and just nothing good to say. Onion soup looked good. Came after meal was served and sent back. Fish tacos' tasty but a tad over deep fried. Tenderloin tips, tough, sent back. Took 10 minutes to order a drink, ten to get another drink and never a chance to order another. We loved the idea someone took this great location and wanted to make a destination. To bad. This restaurant was somewhat of a disappointment. We drove out to Stratford to try it. Even though the dining room was pretty empty, it took a long time to get service. I ordered mango Moscow mule to start but there was no mango to speak of in the drink. We ordered the pickle wings as an appetizer and they were just OK. Nothing special. I had heard good things about them and was looking forward to something more unique. Two people in my party ordered the Reuben sandwich, which took an extraordinarily long time to prepare, so we just sat there while everyone else was being served before us. The Ruben and Rachel ended up not really being an authentic Ruben but more just a basic sandwich. I ordered a salad and it was decent. The ambience was all right and you do get a beautiful view of the beach and the Sound. Unfortunately, not everyone can get a window seat to fully enjoy that, but it is a plus. It was a decent experience going to this location, and I always enjoy the Lordship Boulevard area of Stratford. However, I do not think it is worth revisiting this restaurant, given our mediocre experience. read more

I can't stop thinking about their Buffalo chicken Mac and cheese, I've been to the one in Fairfield and both were comparable in taste. The chicken was breaded perfectly and very flavorful. The view at this location though is incredible, waterfront views. Can walk along the beach to help digest afterwards! After our meal, we moved over to the bar for a few drinks. Love this place. It's close to my work to enjoy a warm and cozy lunch or dinner. Their menu is a bit limited and has some different choices than most pubs. Started off with the French onion soup which was delicious but wishing for a bit of crunch from the cheese being toasted but not a big deal. Then I got kick'n chick'n and I wasn't a huge fan of the sauce on the sandwich. Ended up eating just the plain chicken which was flavorful and a good crunch. They have some interesting options. What a great experience! Our waitress was attentive and patient with our table - we had our kids with us and we are very indecisive and to boot I left our leftovers on the table and when I came back the table was already bussed (rightfully so) and they offered to make me what we had left! Food was really good- the Allstars were the calamari (super tender), the poutine and the chickn and cheddar wrap. We had a bunch of others too but those were great. We also had the Sunday special for drinks and so good! I'd say only con is that it's so quiet! We were one of the first tables and having the kids it made it seem like we were so loud! Great experience here last Friday lunch! The food was all amazing, the drinks great and service stellar (thanks Nathan!). We sat on a picnic table by the beach so nice view too! The moo shoo pork tacos were to die for ... crispy edges but still tender and juicy and a flavor burst I'd return for! My husband ... who's pretty picky about his steak loved the tenderloin tips and their sweet potato fries were perfect! The chicken and waffles had a crispy light beer batter and juicy chicken center (my choice next time I think!), and my daughter was very happy with her burger! Great all-around experience. I went here during the summer time and sat outside. Perfect little location by the beach. Service was fast and food was delicious. I've been back several times and always get one of the wrap sandwiches. All of the menu items have been great so far! This was a hidden gem. Attached to a kind of jersey shore motel right located on the beach in Stratford, I was pleasantly surprised. Our server/bartender was really friendly and fun. The pub-style menu was diverse and had lots of options for all tastes and dietary preferences. I had a wedge salad that was tasty and the lettuce really crisp. I followed with a super delicious burger- nothing crazy but juicy and perfectly cooked. I enjoyed my meal as did my guest. I would give the bartender a 5 out of 10 for friendliness. I will go back because the food is so good here but service needs improving. Unfortunately, the quality of the food was disappointing. Haven't tried the food yet but saw a fresh giant pretzel get escorted to a table - and having not grown up in a region appreciating such things - decided to investigate. Situated right on the water, the views at Little Pub can't be beat. The interior feels recently updated but there were quite a few wasps and other bugs inside which was really off-putting. We all ordered the Lobster Roll and it was just ok. The portion of lobster differed between all 4 rolls and I found the lobster meat to be a little tough. Everyone else in my party enjoyed it though. The Clam Chowder was just ok as well, it was nice and creamy but it could have used more clams. The standout was the side salad that you can order with the roll. It was like a meal in itself!
