There's something about the taste of home. We wanted a home cooked meal and this spot was the winner. First time for all of us. All 4 of us got the 2x2 combo meal. My choice was tocino and daing. When I tell you, it was so good I was nonstop shoveling all the foods. That fish was it. Instead of soda, I got the sago gulaman that truly reminded me of my childhood. A couple of cons: The parking is super tight. There happened to be some massive trucks as we were leaving so my nephew ended up having to do a 4 point turn just to get out of the lot. Our son loves filipino food so we went on a pinoy food trip to Jersey City last spring. Found Little Quiapo's video on-line and it featured their palabok. We got there on a Tuesday which happens to be "Palabok Tuesday" (get 1 order and the 2nd order is half-off)! The palabok tasted excellent! My son also loved the pork sisig which was fresh and tasty! The owner and her staff are very friendly! We went back for more food several times during our stay there before we went back home to NH. Somehow, we always got lucky with the parking and always found a empty spot, especially early in the afternoon. There is a great fenced parking lot next to the restaurant that is shared with 3 other businesses. We'll definitely go back there again next time we visit Jersey City! read more

Though the food is not bad, the service here overshadow the authenticity of food. Just ordered the palabok and the gentleman said it was $8. I gave $20 and the lady who served me gave me $8 instead of $12. So, either the guy lied and the menu upfront is incorrect or they overshadow charge you at the cashier. It's a shame cause it gives the buisness a bad name. Plus last time I was here, I did pay $8 and it took me so long for someone to take my order. Seems like they only favor those who dine in. Little Quiapo has been serving me some fantastic dishes from my last couple visits. Everything is served freshly made same day by the owners themselves. Customer service presented with typical filipino mannerisms. I can see the passion in her face when she describes what is being served. And everything she has recommended to me was spot on, just like my Mom. The palobok is their specialty and they prepare, customize, decorate and garnish each order separately, unlike most places that dig out a serving from a big pan of premixed ingredients. The Little Quiapo Palobok is a must try. Their pork Adobo tasted delicious but a little too fatty for me. But before you take that as a negative, what was too fatty for me was perfectly balanced fatty for my Mom and Aunts. I recently had their Kare Kare for the first time. I had to ask what it was because it was darker than I am use to. To my surprise, it was different and so tasteful. The sauce was thick and creamy with a hint of peanut butter. The veggies were perfectly cooked and the pork was oh so tender and yummy. I thoroughly enjoyed every bite i took. I also ordered a specialty that I have never seen. Mini meatballs and quail eggs in a mushroom sauce. So glad I gave it a try because it was definitely a treat. It would have been much better if they gave equal amounts of meatballs and quail eggs. Great place for comforting Filipino breakfast. A typical breakfast consists of a meat, a fried egg, and garlic fried rice. With the big breakfast you get a choice of two meats, two eggs and two servings of rice. The taste is pretty solid, maybe the best in jersey city. I personally like the Tapsilog. It's almost the ritual that my husband and I go to a Philippino restaurant on the car-maintenance day. We almost missed this tiny 4-table place, which is located in a parking lot next to Philippine Bread House in Jersey City. I ordered the pork chop dinner, which seemed the most popular item on the menu. The Filipino version of pork chops was actually deep fried seasoned pork belly. The dish also came with 1 cup of garlic rice, two fried eggs, and a side of atchara. Atchara is a pickle made from grated unripe papaya. The dish was about $8 and was definitely a must have. My husband had the big breakfast ($9), which came with two meat items, 2 fried eggs, 2 cups of garlic rice and a side of atchara. He picked adobo chicken and beef stew as the two meat items, which both tasted great. We felt stuffed after. Many Filipino dined here so I guessed that was pretty authenticated. read more

It's not terrible here, but I've definitely had better and I know I won't eat here again. I always get the two-item combo (about $6). There is a range of grilled meats, fishes, curries, and vegetarian items to choose from (though, truth be told, there is lots of pork - so hope you like that!). Everything is tasty and fresh - well seasoned and interesting. The staff is friendly and helpful and will take the time to explain each dish to you (which might be needed if, like me, you aren't as familiar with Filipino food. Rather ghetto that they scooped up my garlic rice and then popped it into the microwave for heating. Bistec was tender and juicy, but the taste was kind of awkward. People who really like the taste of vinegar would probably appreciate it more. For me, there wasn't anything special about the silverfish omelet - it's stuff I've made at home time and time again (I'm Chinese though, not Filipino) so there wasn't anything unique about it for me, but it's an extra + that they probably taste like homemade to others. It's a great deal - particularly for lunch if you're serving jury duty - and the sweet Filipino women running the small restaurant are very welcoming. My family and friends have been going here for years, and I figure it's about time to give them the yelp they deserve. PROS: * Very good Filipino dishes, from adobos to sinagang (beef/pork stew w/tamarind) and pretty much everything in between including lechon kawali (pan seared pork). My favorite is the breakfast consisting of sinangag (garlic fried rice), fried eggs and your choice of meats. Make sure you finish it off w/halo-halo (Filipino version of sundae). * Prices are very reasonable. * Service is quick and friendly. * The restaurant may be small but it definitely gives you the sense that you're eating at some small eatery in the Philippines. CONS: * To those who complain that the food is greasy, these are the same people who'll probably complain that Mexican food, or Chinese food is unhealthy. Like it or not, a little grease and fat (which is THE carrier of flavor) is part of Filipino food. In any event, the food here is nowhere greasy as some have claimed. * Under any circumstances, DO NOT park in the tiny parking lot! Absolutely great find! We walked into here not knowing what to expect. Tucked in the back of the parking lot, this undisclosed restaurant serves some homey and cheap Filipino food. A lunch combo came with 2 sides and rice for $5.50. We were so stuffed and had to take the rest to go in a little container. I don't know the names of the side meats but one was shrimp paste flavored pork (which was too salty) and the other was this very sweet sauce pork (which tasted very good!). My friends dish had heart and pork with gravy sauce, I think. You can order food from the menu or pick from the ones already out on display. They also have desserts. Overall, we enjoyed our lunch! This place is as 'hole in the wall' as you can get. We had an overnight stay in New Jersey, so before going back to the airport we wanted to check out a Filipino restaurant in the area. Five stars for places near and dear to my heart!!! I have not been to Little Quiapo in a while, for a couple of reasons: the Pulaski has been shut down for repair and my bestie moved from the area. I used to come here after working a long night shift and wanting a Filipino breakfast. This place reminds me of a typical open kitchen in the Philippines where you can watch the food being cooked. The two ladies that work here are sweet, and they are always cleaning, prepping and organizing - just like most Filipino women I know. It's a "turo turo" but with a sit down feel, food is brought to you on real plates and silverware ( fork and spoon, of course ) It's family style you can go to the fridge and pour your own water, cups are located in front. Now, for the food .... Hands down best "turo turo" in the area, I will even go so far to say the best in Essex and Union counties!!! Not as greasy and salty, as other places, and they only have about 6-8 different ulam at any given time. I like that you can get a single ulam with rice "rice bowl" instead of a whole combo. If you don't like fatty pieces of pork, this is not the place for you, I think they only use the pork shoulder with the fat and skin attached, and still the food is not swimming in oil.
