    Lumpia and Tocilog (pork)
    Angela B.

Walking into the restaurant, we were greeted by the cheerful owner. She treated us like family and it truly felt (and tasted!) like we were eating at our Tita's house for lunch. The lumpia was crunchy and delicious. I really enjoyed the tocilog. But my favorite part of the meal was the champorado, which is like an ube rice pudding.

Very friendly and welcoming. The food was made fresh to order and I was more than happy with my meal. I ordered the longsilog and it came with delicious garlic fried rice and a fried egg on top. For dessert, I had the halo halo which was more than satisfying and made the way I like it! I will be coming back to try other menu items for sure!

We had a great lunch at Meryendang Pinoy. We had tapsilog, lumpia, kikiam, pork sinigang, and pancit lomi. Everything was good.

    all the food we got!

I LOVED visiting Meryendang Pinoy! It was like I was stepping into my home away from home. Food: Absolutely delicious! I got to try so many foods that I never had before. - puto bumbong (rice dessert with brown sugar, coconut, and cheese) - kikiam (tofu skewer, crispy!) - fish ball skewer (amazing!!!) - squid ball skewer (like delicious little flavor circles) - gulaman lamig (soooooooo delicious! never had it in drink form before) - lomi batangas (savory, hearty, warm = perfect for the cold) - classic ice scramble (refreshing, sweet, and icy) - taho (tofu was silky, tapioca was so soft and bouncy) Service: Jhonacel and Josan were so, so nice and accommodating. They were there to help you navigate the menu and recommended some delicious food items. Atmosphere: Cozy and homey! They are BYOB and ALSO HAVE KARAOKE!!!!! Had so much fun visiting and will definitely be back. I made a video review too, you can find it on instagram @inapatreats or YouTube @inapatrice!

Top notch Filipino cooking. Topsilog did not disappoint. The sinigang was healing. Desserts were soo tasty! We had the halo halo and taho.

A small but perfect area for the food that's being served. Mostly delicious small bites & sweet drinks and desserts. To start, we ordered Squidballs w/ sweet and spicy sauce. Pretty decent, the sauce was great. The Mais Con Yelo tastes exactly how it did back at home with just the right amount of sugar:corn:ice proportion. My cousin had ordered the Ube Scramble and she finished it in less than 5 mins so that says a lot LOL. I also got the tapsilog & she had the tocilog. Both were soooo yummy, paired w white vinegar which is a MUSTTTT for these meals. Street parking wasn't too bad either since we arrived around 12-1pm. I would give it a 4/5 only because we've attempted to come here a few times but they were either closed and it did not reflect that online or they have a private event going on which you'll only find out once you're there and the door is locked. Despite this, everything we had reminded us of home :)

The pork belly karee was good with a nice savory and crispy flavor. The garlic rice was a generous serving. The pork bbq skewer was probably my favorite with such flavorful meat and sauce. Service (4/5): No issues with the service with the waiter helping us with questions and getting us seated. The food took a out 10-15 minutes to come out. Ambiance (4/5): Nice shop interior with a medium size and plenty of seating. The light decoration are cute and the entrance with the garden sign looks quite nice. There is Booth and chair seating on wooden tables. Some of the tables look a bit worn out but overall still a nice shop.

First, and, foremost, GETTING HERE. Parking can be a nightmare in this busy part of Journal Square as I assume most customers will be driving to get here. Parking is not allowed on the side of Newark Ave. that Max's is on and it feels like the cars parked across the street are parked there for an eternity. There is a small (and VERY tight) parking lot with about 15-20 parking spaces about 150 feet west of the restaurant, but, once again, spots are a premium and there will definitely be a few "campers" inside waiting for that 1 car to leave. If you're lucky enough to find a parking space, when you finally walk in, the restaurant looks relatively small at first as the 1st floor has a few tables, but, they do have a 2nd level as well, which I sat in the previous times I dined here. The menu is a collection of classic Filipino faves, predominantly comprised of pork-based appetizers and entrees, which are the real cornerstones of the Filipino diet. Yes, there are non-pork foods, like chicken adobo, pancit, laing, but, if you're here to really feast, you HAVE to order something with pork in it. It's a rite of passage. On my most recent trip to the restaurant, we arrived at around 12pm on a windy Saturday afternoon and, we were very, very fortunate to get a table for our family of 4 as the restaurant was pretty busy as a large party of about 15 people took up 3 combined tables alone. Since my wife ordered ahead of time as I was circling for parking, I didn't really get a chance to take a close look at the menu, but it was far from my first foray into Filipino food so I already knew what was "good". Quick recap of what we ordered and thoughts. LUMPIA SHANGHAI Classic Lumpia Shanghai served here. Addictive to keep eating them. The pieces are a bit on the tinier side, but, nevertheless, great appetizer to wet the palette. Definitely kids approved according to our kids. LAING I typically love Laing (taro leaves cooked with coconut milk), but, for some reason, the taste was a bit odd to me this time around. Typically, the coconut flavor usually really comes through and dominates the dish, however, not this last time. It was decent and my wife loved it, but I wasn't a huge fan. CHICKEN ADOBO Nothing spectacular. Not to minimize the effort that probably went into making this, but it was basically chicken dunked in a ton of adobo sauce. Yes, it was tasty, but I didn't feel like it was something I couldn't make on my own at home. CLASSIC PORK SISIG Where was the sizzle?????? This was an entrée I was reallllllly looking forward to. I LOVE sisig, especially when it's hot and sizzling, which it was supposed to be, but it was just OK once again. Also, we probably should have ordered the crunchy pork sisig, which is supposed to have bit of lechon crunch in it. It was OK, but we've definitely had much better in terms of heat, flavor and crunch. LARGE GARLIC FRIED RICE Solid garlic fried rice. Honestly, I might have enjoyed this the most - sadly. Make sure to ask for some vinegar on the side as well so that you can let the rice soak it up. Service was good throughout. Our food came out quickly and the waiters/waitresses were attentive. Just wish the food was better than we anticipated.

It was fluffy, savory, and rich without feeling too heavy. Expect it to be a pancake version of bibingka. I also loved the crab omelet, which was packed with generous pieces of crab and cooked so delicately that it practically melted with each bite. It also came with pandesal, which is how I enjoyed it topped off. The kanto chicken brought serious comfort food energy with crispy skin, juicy meat, and flavors that reminded me of late-night street food. To drink, the ube matcha was well-balanced and the corn coffee was another fun surprise with strong corn to coffee flavors. Service was warm, attentive, and paced perfectly even as the dining room filled up. They do accept walk-ins, but I'd definitely recommend making a reservation since brunch is clearly popular and tables go quickly.
