Such a cute Jewish deli! We only stopped by for drinks on Sunday (while killing time before brunch), but I would absolutely return for food. We ordered at the take-out/outdoor table side (literally a little red window) and grabbed a picnic table to sit at. There aren't many tables here, but they can easily fit a larger party. Our three drinks were ready very quickly, and came in plastic to-go cups with paper straws. My friend and I got the Passion Fruit Spritz (not bad but a little too sweet for me) and our other friend chose the Manishewitz Shpritz (I actually liked this one more! Almost similar to sangria). There are 7 different Spritzes on the menu though, so I would happily try some more. Will be back! read more

I highly recommend eating here if you want to pay a lot of money and then get the wrong order. I ordered two double burgers with cheese. What did I get? Two single burgers with cheese. I usually let theses types of the things go because I hate to cause trouble, I just couldn't because the double patty costs $5 more. Little Red Window is a very cute spot on a corner in North Beach giving patrons the option of dining in or ordering from said red window and chilling outside while you eat and drink. We wanted something boozy before dinner and walked by this place. We decided to get a Lemon Drop Spritz and a beer. We knew it was going to be steep but it's SF so assumed as much. It was $20 before tip for both drinks but the spritz was a 16-20oz cup and very strong. In fact, I wish it had more of a lemon kick because all I tasted was the vodka and Prosecco but had a nice buzz going afterwards. The burgers and fries the table next to us received looked very good, so I'd check out the food if you're hungry. read more

There are two separate parts to this restaurant: the table service side and the take-out/outdoor table side. I am going to focus the Red Window outdoor side. Here's the thing about this restaurant, the concept is very good and the food is okay but the people that work here are horrible! HORRIBLE !!! They really do not understand their job nor do they do their job with any level of proficiency. If they had a competent staff who understood their job this would be a fun place to eat. But, they do not. To describe the process on the Red Window side of this restaurant, what you do is walk up to the window and place your order. You can then sit at the outdoor benches or take your food to-go. All good. Again, the problem is the staff. All you have to do to understand the problem with this restaurant is to get in line to order and you will immediately experience the problem. Just see how long it's gonna take for the staff to take one simple order. Then, when you finally get up to the window you will experience that the staff does not know the menu, understand how to properly use the equipment, and how to take a credit card. The other problem is, the staff apparently knows many of the local customers. I have stood in line watching the staff members and customers talk for upwards of ten minutes. This is just the wrong way to operate a restaurant! Moreover, why would they mess up such an easy order as two double burgers and waffle fries? How hard is it??? But, that was exactly what happened with my most recent experience. I reported the problem but to get them to figure out what they did wrong the staff member had to call up three other staff members just to get it right. Are you kidding me? Combine this with the fact that they did not give me any napkins when they finIly got my order right. I had to go back and ask for napkins for two people. What the staff member gave me was one napkin. When I got back to the table I realized this. Thus, I had to go back up to the window and stand in line behind other customers whose orders were being taken (very slowly) and most likely incorrectly, just to get the napkins that we should have been provided with in association with the burgers in the first place. Owners, get a clue! You have a great concept but hire some reliable and well trained staff. read more

Little Red Window serves big chicken sandwiches! I tried the Cluck It Like It's Hot and the fried chicken was literally twice the size of the bun. The flavor and crisp was good and there was a nice zing from the pickled jalapeño and kale slaw (the variation from a normal pickle/cabbage slaw made for a more adult/classy version of your normal hot chicken sandwich). It did take a long time for someone to actually come take our order/receive it but it's a solid meal to pick up when you want elevated comfort takeout. read more

I'm an empanada fan, but I'm also a real picky one. In fact, I'm more often disappointed​ than not. But man, these were amazing! Really loved the dough! It's not thick and doughy. It's on the thinner side, yet substantial enough to contain all that delicious filling. The filling to dough ratio is also on point too. They're not large, but honestly, I don't like those massive overstuffed ones with the filling to dough ratio all off. My favorite was the beef, but the pork and peppers and chicken ones are also great. They're all super tasty without being overly salted. Literally,​ keep your eyes​ out for a little red window. That's where they're taking orders and operating inside a small kiosk. No tables or seating. Just strictly take out from a little red window. So cute! They're not exactly inexpensive at $6.00 each, but they really are good, and some of the best in the Bay! TIP: Frozen empanadas are also available to take and bake at home. A tiny little window serving up a ton of empanada options. Service is really quick since they just need to pull the empanadas out and grab some sauces. I definitely appreciate the variety, but some empanadas end up being really great while others are just kind of ok. Chorizo & Potatoes Empanada: A bit heavy on the potatoes and light on the ground chorizo. But still tasty. Pork & Peppers Empanada: Probably my favorite of the different types I tried. So much flavor packed into those little empanada. Much fancier than some boring green bell peppers. And the pork was so tender. Classic Beef Empanada: Actually, quite bland. This is where the sauces come in handy. The other empanadas had a lot more personality. Chicken Empanada: This was a sleeper hit. When I think chicken, I assume boring. But there was an amazing brown sauce (mole?) covering the tender shredded chicken. Plus the empanada shell was fried (and maybe made of corn). Perhaps my second favorite empanada. Cheese Empanada: I love cheese, but this was a tad disappointing. It seemed there were more ancillary veggies in this than cheese. The fried shell was nice though. A little bland overall, but good with the sauces. Especially the salsa verde cruda. Buffalo Chicken Empanada: Non-traditional, but a lot of fun. Especially delicious with the creamy blue cheese sauce. It's like having wings, but without the bones. Fresh Herb Sauce: This was pretty bland. It was like chimichurri, but with a lot less kick. Not a fan. Plus it's blended like baby food. Homemade Chimichurri: I appreciate that the chimichurri was finely chopped and not blended into a paste. Felt a little light on the garlic and red pepper and oregano. But still ok. Nana Margarita's Salsa Verde Cruda: Really enjoyed this one. Lots of fresh tang. I'm used to salsa coming for free (and in large quantities) so it did feel a little weird to pay 75¢. Blue Cheese Sauce: Creamy with some nice blue cheese chunks. I swear they used some celery salt too, to make it more like a wings meal. My second favorite sauce after the salsa verde cruda. read more

Pros: great food and atmosphere. Cons: long waits, relatively high prices, limited space. My partner and I spent the day walking through the city, and stumbled across a restaurant labeled "WINDOW." It's immediately striking to look at, with bright colors and wood accents throughout the inside, and huge windows and colored lights on the outside. We came near closing time, so we were able to get a seat. The menu was different from the photos on Yelp; we expected sandwiches or burgers, but we discovered that it was mostly smaller plates. I am gluten sensitive, and I was pleased to find that almost everything on the menu was either already gluten-free or optionally available. We ordered 2 smaller dishes and 2 larger dishes: patatas bravas and blooming mushrooms as starters with spiced cauliflower and chicken paillaird as entrees. While we had to wait about half an hour for them, the starters were both amazing-- the mushrooms were flavorful and crispy, with a smoky taste. The patatas bravas were probably one of the most impressive potato dishes I've ever eaten. They were crispy and flaky, and were complimented well by the sauces in the dish. The entrees were also both great. The chicken had a slightly sweet sauce, and was cooked perfectly. The cauliflower had a rich flavor, though it came paired with very plain beans. For dessert, we ordered gluten-free churros, which tasted as close to the real thing as I've ever had! For 2 starters, 2 entrees, 1 drink, and a dessert, our total came out to just short of $100. All in all, I was very pleased with the dinner and would be happy to return if we are in the area. read more

Dinner is definitely a lot better than breakfast here but it is decently priced for breakfast. I ordered a bunch of things for dinner w friends and everything we got was good. It was awhile back so can't recall all the dishes. However, came to breakfast recently and the pancakes aren't worth it but the pork hash is! The pork hash was yummy and the meat was nicely crispy on the outer but still almost like pulled pork on the inside but in bite sizes!! If you're looking for tapas style for breakfast, get the pinxtos. I thought the biscuit and gravy was okay but it's fun to share small dishes w friends. 3/5 breakfast and 4/5 for dinner! read more

This review is for the Jewish delicatessen window. I understand that the little red window rotates concepts so it might not be relevant in a few months. To preface this I will say that this is a promising start. As a Jew from LA, SF generally has had disappointing Jewish food at least for the last 10 years. But you know we have 2-3 solid bagel joints now so we are on our way to being you know an actual city. This was the best Jewish food I've had in the city that I didn't make myself. Pastrami sandwich - made correctly, On rye with seeded mustard, Pastrami - great texture and good flavor, you don't want your pastrami too soft, this isn't pork belly it's gotta have some chew. However my issue is that the scale of the sandwich is somewhat disappointing, A good pastrami or corned beef sandwich from Katz's, Canters or Langers is a mountain of brisket that is barely restrained by the two slices of rye. I understand that Canters as of 2022 is charging about 17.50 for theirs, I would be more then willing to pay an extra couple of bucks for the meat avalanche that I grew up on ( have you really gone to the delicatessen if you don't immediately want to take a meat shnatz after?) Smaltz fries - great flavor ( thanks chicken fat) and good texture. But again portion size for 7 bucks was a bit thin. Potato salad: yeah this was totally delicious, I could demolish at least a quart of this stuff which I probably should not say in public. Service and atmosphere: I think this is where the biggest disconnect was for me. I kinda feel weird eating a 78 dollar meal (two pastramis, an order of fries and potato salad, 2 beers + tip) at a parklet with zero table service ( like they don't even bring your order out to you). The parklet is nice, but I really hope that this chef eventually opens a more formal delicatessen because I personally value that more old school Jewish home away from home feeling. I think there's a lot of promise here, will I be back... yeah probably I'll just probably take it to go and eat it at Washington square down the street. read more

I've been eyeing Little Red Window since they first started establishing themselves on the corner. Really loving the vibrancy of the venue! I waited for a day where I could place a larger order for myself or with other people. This time it was a party of one. I got three empanadas for $17: Mexican Chicken, Spanish Chorizo & Potato, Argentinian Beef. All very flavorful and each were definitely different from the other. My favorite of them all was the Chorizo and Potato for the buttery pastry and for the strong flavors. I also decided to try the Basque Cheesecake, which they source from Basque in the Bay. Never had Basque Cheesecake before, so I don't have a frame of reference but I thought it was tasty. Overall, good experience. While I did think that the servings were pretty small, everything packed a lot of flavor. Curious to try their cocktails snd other empanada flavors! read more

I miss their Jewish noshery sandwiches- between those, the previous empanadas, and the current chicken wings, I think their sandwiches were something special in San Francisco, and particularly in a neighborhood where you have many Italian delis. Right now, Little Red Window sells chicken wings, which are tasty and have good flavor but don't blow the mind. The skin sticks well, but it's a little dry for me and has room for improvement. Besides that, I enjoy the fries from Little Red Window very much, and I'm glad they stuck around from previous iterations of the menu! A fresh batch is so perfectly salty and crisp, and I'll go out of my way for them. Their cocktails are also good, and I especially enjoy their piña coladas. Overall, I do enjoy this spot, and love how low-key it is compared to their main restaurant, but I think changing their previous menu wasn't the best choice. Happy that they have the ability to experiment and try things that interest them, though. read more

I've been to this place the number of times now and have to say I'm just so-so about it. I feel like I've given it plenty of chances to give me that pastrami sandwich that I've been craving for so long here in the San Francisco Bay Area but sadly, it just doesn't do it for me. First off,the rye does not give me that classic rye taste. It's too mild and the flavor gets lost. Decent firmness though and that's good. Second, I feel like the pastrami itself is almost more like a corned beef. Not very traditional. I've been to them all ... Katz, Canters, Sherman's .. I know what really good pastrami should taste like. This ain't it. Third, naturally the potion size / cost is disappointing. Go to any decent Jewish deli spot (outside sf) and you'll know what I'm talking about. Also need to say that the sides were really disappointing. The fries and potatoes salads were good I'll say that, but the cucumber salad was wicked salty, and the cole slaw was just yuck. Also I tried the matzoh ball soup ... nope My advice, go to Max's Opera Plaza for a much better Jewish deli experience. read more

This review is for the Little Red Window's latest concept, the Jewish Deli. I have been reading up on this place and was very excited to try it on its Grand Opening day, today. I'm pleased to report it did not disappoint. Adam (chef / owner) is from Silver Spring MD so presumably he knows what good East Coast Jewish deli fare is supposed to be like. I do because of a place I visit every time I go to DC. A Jewish Deli in Silver Spring called Parkway has converted me to a hardcore Jewish Deli fan so I am always on the lookout for great places. Good Jewish Deli food is hard to come by in SF. Miller's East Coast Deli on Polk was pretty good but sadly went under a few years ago. I think Wise Sons is ok but not amazing. I'm pleased to report to all you Jewish Deli food lovers out there that the Little Red Window gets it right. I ordered a Hot Pastrami sando, matzoh ball soup and cucumber salad. Sandwich: 10/10. Amazing pastrami. Slightly smoky and briny taste throughout, tender, not chewy or fatty and not overly salty. House made rye bread. I wished it was a little bigger but it was as good a pastrami sando as I've had anywhere. Soup: 9/10 - At the Parkway in DC when you order Matzoh Ball soup it's actually their chicken soup with a Matzoh ball in it. I'm not Jewish so I don't know what authentic matzoh ball soup is but this was more of (I think) a traditional matzoh ball soup and broth. I liked it a lot, in fact I brought it home to heat up and it was even better piping hot. Matzoh balls as I understand it are not easy to get right and he definitely does. It's nice and spongy and kind of malty and very tasty. Cucumber salad - Loved it. Nice and fresh, loaded with fresh dill and lemon. Dilish (pun intended). North Beach is of course not known for cuisine outside of Italy. It's nice to have another option and I hope this place does well. SF really needs more excellent Jewish Deli options. read more

The cocktails are a fun experience of low proof mixology and the serving staff was very friendly, however the food was just that, food. Nothing to write home about and to be honest nothing to say to anyone about either. Unfortunately this was a giant miss across the board. We ordered many of the items on their menu. Truly a hodgepodge of flavors fighting each other, while at other times, one flavor overwhelming all. I got the chorizo and potato, and beef with peppers and onions. The beef was my fav but both incredible, and the patatas bravas!!! They cut them almost like a hassleback potato to give maximum crispiness. DO NOT sleep on the sauces! All 3 amazing. Oh I also got a passion fruit Moscow mule. V tasty!! Wow this place is great! Easy breezy pickup window, super nice and helpful staff, and the empanadas are incredible! I had an Argentinian beef empanada and a Mexican cheese. One flour and one corn masa which was a delight. All of the sauces come in two sizes and I highly recommend getting the largest size so you can take them home and pour them all over everything for a week. read more

We went to Little Red Window in search of a great New York deli-style pastrami sandwich, which is tough to find in San Francisco. The food is terrific, but be prepared to spend over $70 for lunch for two. That's two sandwiches, an order of fries, one potato salad, a cream soda, a water + tip. The portions are small, not like what you get at Katz's in NY. $7 for fries alone when you get so few seemed especially steep. I'm still glad we went there since the food was so good. read more

We were hoping for a great hot Pastrami Sandwich. Unfortunately, the very small offering was devoid of flavor, and the meager serving of Pastrami was extremly tough and fatty. Disappointing to spend $17 on a markee menu item that would be put to shame by even a half descent REAL Jewish deli. The only true flavor of the so called sandwich was the stone ground mustard slathered on some... just OK dark rye bread. My wife and I spend a generous amount of time in North Beach and really wanted to be pleased by this "new comer".
