Chilaquiles
Riley H.

We love The Village. Classic breakfast, lots of delicious options and something for everyone. They're not joking about the pancake tacos - a great combo of sweet and savory. Great mimosas as well! Get the pitcher. I was pleasantly surprised by the biscuits and gravy; it can be hard to find it done well in CA. The service is usually pretty good, and everything is prepared beautifully. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There's usually plenty of good seating and generally no wait.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's casual and great to sit for a while and catch up with friends.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

[[HIGHLIGHT]]such a cute diner![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] they have a pretty extensive menu and a few vegan options -- would love to see vegan cheese/eggs but happy with what i got! i got the vegan nachos and ended up adding the red sauce form the chilaquiles and it was really good! a lot of food so ended up taking some to go. bryce got a oreo pancake taco and loved it and al's a breakfast sandwich. would go again and recommend!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]A decent brunch spot in Nob Hill that is worth visiting if you're in a pinch and want to avoid the crowds at other brunch places in the area.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The exterior is very unassuming, but the interior is cozy and inviting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Staff, though few, are friendly and attentive. The Village offers a variety of brunch items at prices comparable to others. In general, food was enjoyable but nothing outstanding.

I came here during COVID and remembered how delicious it was! I came back again, this time to dine in, and [[HIGHLIGHT]]I love the ambiance of the restaurant. It's friendly and inviting. Very very cozy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was great and I ordered the pancake tacos again. I tried 3 flavors, including a sweet one. I thought these were so tasty and fluffy. I think the corned beef one was my favorite. I'd go again! The coffee is super good too.

Absolutely loved finding this little spot close to our hotel for breakfast! We've been dreaming about getting these pancake tacos every day since we left the city. They were so fluffy and warm and tasty! The staff was one of the most attentive we've experienced in a big city, and even offered a complimentary juice for our "wait" which wasn't even a noticeable wait.

First time in my life I've ever had a taco made out of a pancake! What a great brunch! The menu was filled with tons of great options. Our server was awesome, even though the place was super slammed. But I literally enjoyed everything and will be back again for sure.

Sweet, Savory, and California Pancake Tacos

Had a great Sunday brunch at The Village. Ordered a pitcher of mimosa, a coffee, and of course I had to try the pancake tacos (California, Savory, and Sweet). The servers were super friendly and attentive. The restaurant is a cozy, relaxing, and inviting space with a small bar seating area and many tables along one side of the wall. Prices and portion sizes are very reasonable.

The red chili sauce. If you are from New Mexico and ever relished New Mexican Enchiladas, you will relish the red sauce. I had the chilaquiles and almost died from home sickness. It was superb!

The pancake tacos here are to die for. You can mix and match, even with the lunch tacos. Our meal was delicious. Sweet, savory, and perfectly filling. 10/10, will definitely be back. The service and ambiance are easy going, homey, and relaxed. This was the perfect morning brunch spot.

Food: Breakfast Fiesta Bowl This is a short walk from the Toyota Maintenace center on Van Ness. I didn't want to stay cooped up for 2 hours, so I wandered around and found this place. Their menu was posted outside and looked reasonable. When entering, the place is well lit with a bar and a dining area. You can sit anywhere, so I decided on the bar section since I liked the lighting (it's got sunlights). The place is pretty quiet. It seems locals frequent this place as its customers tend to sit back and enjoy the meal, with a book in hand. Service is fairly quick, and since the ambiance leans towards the relaxed, they're happy to make small talk or leave you alone with your book. I would come definitely come back.

What really made this visit stand out, though, was our server, David M. He was warm, polished, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. He anticipated what we needed without hovering and struck that perfect balance of professionalism and personality that makes you feel truly taken care of. Solid Caesar with real anchovies, not overdressed. Roasted prime beef and verlasso salmon were incredibly tender but what really knocked it outta the park was the seasoning and veg sides - the ponzu braised cabbage under the salmon, the hen of the woods and potato puree under the beef. Didn't get the fried chicken this time but it's incredible. Burrata whipped potatoes haricot verts, chocolate cupcake, and Madelines were solid. Assume options off the event menu are better. The croutons a little stale in the salad and the cupcake frosting tasting artificial were my only notes.

Also, for the food, I recommend the dips and the fresh pitas, so good. We'll be back just for that. Reminds me of the old Berkeley restaurant years ago, Holy Land (IYKYK). Mmmm. Thanks!

The sandwich comes with a small dressed salad and three tomato halves. It was nice. The potatoes served with the sandwich were roasted but served cold and dry. Like they were left over from the night before. Randy enjoyed his mocha. We shared a very dry, flavorless except for the two small bits of jam in them, "cheese" danish. Definitely skip this $7 item that you could get at a circle k for $1.50 and it would taste fresher. You order when you walk in and someone delivers your order and then you're left to fend for yourself. We were able to locate some ketchup for the potatoes on our own. Nobody ever checked on us. This is the second place on this visit that's charging an extra 5% fee so that their employees can have a living wage and health insurance, which absolutely, every employee should have. With the prices they charge, they should already be able to do that, though. I read an article about this fee with many different names and I would rather pay a bit higher of a price and know the employees were taken care of than be surprised by this fee later. Two sandwich breakfasts, a mocha and a danish on top of tax and their healthy sf fee was $63. Steep for the quality we got. Won't be back.

Loud, lively ambiance, warm from the open kitchen and gas lanterns lining the wall. Beautiful interior, with several tall trees in the center under the high peaked ceiling. Complimentary thin house tortilla chips and tasty slightly spicy roasted salsa. Delicious. Housemade tamale side was delicious, and I'd definitely get again. Esquites (street corn) was fresh off the cob which was nice, however it was in a soup of too much mayo--pass. Ceviche and octopus appetizers were delicious, and go well with the complimentary tortilla chips (I prefer thin over the thicker accompanying chips). Short rib was tender in a tasty mojo sauce and comes with warm tortillas so you can make your own little tacos. I still preferred the tamale though. Agua fresca good and horchata fresh, however definitely smaller than what you may be used to. Overall good visit. Will be back when we're in the mood for this type of Mexican food. A charming little bistro inspired by the Marlowe cows, I'm assuming, managed to stun us with several memorable dishes. The warm deviled eggs were an excellent start. Savory yet delicate enough to not weigh us down right at the beginning of our meal. The horseradish aioli wasn't for me, but I can see its appeal for a certain audience. You give me a Calabrian chili sauce and it's guaranteed to make me happy and this shrimp with sweet corn was no exception. Again, light but a punchy flavor that was enjoyable. I could go on and on about the different dishes we tried but the real standout of the night was the pork tenderloin with chorizo and peaches. The sweetness from the peaches somehow managed to enhance the flavor of the chorizo. This dish gives you a bold, savory and sweet bite all together but still won't have you feeling super heavy. I've been coming here for over 30 years, but I know this place has probably been there for at least that long before I made my way through its doors! We all ordered slim plates, which is a nice option, as the provide lighter meals for a lower price. For $14.50 I got Prime Rib (I think they call it round steak), mashed potatoes, a salad, a roll, and a side of beans. They offer a wide range of other options, including rotating nighttly specials. The guys at the counter are awesome, and are eager to serve you up a tasty plate, just how you want it! Everything is perfectly serviceable. Drinks are available on the other side of the room, and they have a great selection of beer and liquor (and I expect wines as well). I had a Ukrainian beer with my steak, and it hit the spot! Service at the bar is also quite good. I didn't have an Irish Coffee, since they didn't have fresh coffee made and we were in a bit of a time crunch, but I recall those being a treat as well. Huge helpings of tasty food at a reasonable price, and service with a smile makes this a heartwarming bit of San Francisco's classic dining.
