Great restaurant. I wish they still had banh mi but now they don't. The pho was nice for what you can get in Lawrence.

Little Saigon Cafe is a tiny, unassuming pho bistro tucked behind the closet-sized nail salon on 23rd Street. There is barely enough room to turn around in here, but honestly, this little shop is probably your best bet for pho here in Lawrence. It really is a cheap version of what I've had before -- this isn't INCREDIBLE, MOUTHWATERING pho, but man it DOES get the job done. When I have a craving, this satisfies it in that quick and dirty way, and I really enjoy it. Their fried egg rolls are stuffed with pork and served with that tasty fish sauce I so enjoy. Portion size is excellent, as been my experience with many pho places, and this is no different. They also have a pretty tasty and very inexpensive Bahn Mi, with pork and thai chilis and pickles on it, just how I like it! This place isn't five star material on its own; if this was in California I would say this place would be out of business fast. For Kansas though, and here in Lawrence, it's got potential. A quick, cheap, and easy lunch place, Little Saigon Cafe is always on my short list. read more

This place was such a great little find! I love supporting smaller restaurants with more authentic cuisine, and this place did not disappoint. I ordered the Vietnamese summer rolls as an appetizer, which are perfectly light and come with an amazing ginger peanut sauce. I also ordered the large beef slice pho, which, if you've never had pho before, is about as classic as it gets. It had the most amazing bone broth I've ever tasted, and the cilantro was a perfect accent to it all. The food is all made to order right in front of you, and the service was as nice as can be, especially considering the weather was absolute garbage when we went. I've got nothing but nice things to say about this place and I'll definitely be back! read more

I grew up on the great Vietnamese food in Wichita, so I was glad when this place opened up in Lawrence. I've been three times now and so far it's solidly above average. The first time I had the pork & eggroll bun, then chicken bun and then the pho. The pho is pretty good, as others have mentioned but bun leaves a little to be desired. The problem seems to be the meats. The pork was really dry and the chicken seemed low quality--even for dark meat. I don't think it's a preparation problem, just cheap meat. I'll go back for the pho, but I'd happily pay $1 more for the bun if it meant getting quality meat in it. Which brings me to the mysterious dish #16. I have never had dish #16, but I've heard other diners whisper about in hushed tones. I even saw an old Russian business man eating #16 by himself the first time I went in. Whenever I try to order it they always seem to be "out." It may require a secret password. read more

Never had a pad Thai or combination pho better than this. I think this is the best Asian food in Lawrence. The broth is phenomenal. They also have some authentic (I guess) drinks that are very strange but good. The drinks are great for summer because they are very refreshing. read more

The first 2 times I went here, it was great. Probably 4 star meals and service. But for now I'm giving 3 stars because recently we went here and I had the beef pho. The beef was totally pale, almost white like it had been sitting around too long, or maybe boiled for way too long. The herbs were not that fresh and the broth seemed too simple, like it was only beef and onions. We will go back at some point and maybe it will be better again. Maybe they just had an off day. This is one of my favorite places to eat! The pho is really good. I've had the chicken pho mostly and have never had a bad experience with it. I've also had the quail and the curry friend rice, and both were excellent! I usually get either the gourd or chrysanthemum drink, which are both very tasty. The owners and workers are very kind and respectful as well. I highly recommend this place to anyone who loves Vietnamese food or is looking to try something new. read more

I don't like to read big reviews so to summarize what I say below. GO EAT HERE. this restaurant is an amazing local secret. I never write reviews unless I have a terrible experience but this place inspired me to change that. I even went through the trouble of downloading the Yelp app to post this. My girlfriend and I were both getting sick and wanted some warm soup. Naturally we looked for pho. As we pulled up my girlfriend thought the place looked gross and said we should probably go somewhere else. I was kind of with her and almost changed plans but I decided to stick with it. The result is that we discovered an absolute gem of culture and flavor in a town know for pizza and burgers. The owner was cooking when we walked in. The kitchen is in the same room as the dining area so you can watch him work. We order fried dumplings and spring rolls as appetizers. These were fairly standard though I would say above average. However, the actual Pho stole the show. The restaurant was even better since the owners adorable daughter hangs out there and watched him cook. This is the kind of amazing, family owned business that Lawrence needs more of it. Please support it. I certainly will be back. read more

This unassuming little family-owned pho shop gets my $10 every time I come through Lawrence. The menu is long and tempting, but I have a hard time getting past the beef and meatball pho. This aromatic noodle soup is full of herbs so fresh you can smell the dirt on the farmer's gloves. Friendliest people wearing the best T-shirts in town. Not many tables (4 or 5?) but room for more people at the counter. Usually packed with Vietnamese folks. If there's no room, grab and go. They do take-out. Try the place. This was oddly the first place we ate in Lawrence when we moved here. I had the wonton noodle soup, and it was hot and delicious. It wasn't the best I've had, but wasn't the worst. Meh. That's what I thought of their Pho. Portions are small and the noodles are always more on the flaky side, not chewy. The most important thing, which is the broth, wasn't very rich and it left me unsatisfied. Their egg rolls and spring rolls are just not worth the price. This place is the only restaurant in Lawrence that serves Pho, so I casually dine here, but by no means do they serve the best pho, honestly, saying good is a bit of a stretch. Also, the interior is very small. Probably about 15 people can sit and eat at this restaurant at one time. 3 stars because this is the ONLY place to get Pho in 30 minutes driving distance. read more

I'm really surprised that this place has gotten multiple 5 star reviews! I'll agree it's probably the best Pho place in Lawrence, but that's not saying much... However, I'm spoiled by great Vietnamese in Wichita, so maybe I set my standards too high. We went on one of the first nights it was open, so maybe they were just working out the kinks, but I thought the Pho was pretty bland. It was just OK, nothing special. At least they bring you all of the fixings. I also got an order of egg rolls and I cut into it first just to see what they used in theirs and the pork was still pink! The gentleman saw that I hadn't touched it and noticed it was undercooked, so he tossed them and cooked a couple more. By that time, I was a little put-off. read more

Tried this place today and I have to say that it's amazing. I've never really had Vietnamese food before (besides salad rolls) so I thought that I'd give it a try. When you walk in you're greeted in a friendly manner. We came at the perfect time, right before it got busy. There's not very many tables but there is a long counter that one could enjoy their meal at. Since we were the only ones before the rush, we were seated at a table. Once you look over the menu, you order at the counter, and then they make & bring you your order. Ordered the Beef Pho and Beef Bun. It pays to read because I thought "Bun" was an actual bun, but it's actually a Vietnamese type of noodle salad that comes with a dressing. When the food arrived it was pleasant smelling and arranged quite nicely. I would have taken a picture if it wasn't for the fact that I was starving! The first thing I noticed in the soup was the broth, it was very satisfying. Also the mix of mint and cilantro were the perfect ratio, not too bitter, not too tangy. Next thing I noticed was the little cut up egg rolls that are part of the "Bun" salad, they were amazing and really full of meat and not just full of generic cabbage. All in all the meal was amazing and I will defiantly be back, in fact those egg rolls that I mentioned were so good and authentic that we ordered more to go. Little Saigon is a gem worth trying if you're into asian food. read more

Before Little Saigon, we bemoaned the lack of Vietnamese food in Lawrence (The Orient does not cut it...). When we first tried Little Saigon, we thought it was decent, and at $6 for a big bowl of pho, you can't go wrong. Since then, the food has gotten a lot better. Not only is it a super value, but incredibly tasty. Now, we go at least once a week (sometimes twice). I like the #8 beef pho and #24 bun (vermicelli noodles with bbq pork and fried spring roll with sauce.) Pho is also a great hangover food and it's all I want when I'm congested because the broth is hot, delicious, and will cure whatever ails you! read more

I'll start by being 100 percent honest. I tried one item, the vietnamese sandwich. Verdict: GROSS. I'm from the left coast and have more than one vietnamese option. First, instead of a hoagie roll, try french bread (like it's supposed to be served on). Second, try using real meat and not mystery processed pre fab gross meat. Third, pate? Really? This is one item YOU SHOULD NEVER MAKE AGAIN AND NO ONE SHOULD EVER ORDER. If you ever try a REAL vietnamese sandwich, you'll know EXACTLY where I'm coming from. I haven't tried the pho yet, so I have no comment on that. PLEASE reconsider this menu item, it's so simple and delicious that this one in particular is the polar opposite of what it should be. Was looking for a Vietnamese place to eat, as this is my first time in Lawrence. I'm from the San Francisco Bay Area. I enjoyed the beef over vermicelli bowl. Differences between what I'm used to are the pho noodles were the thin kind compared to the round ones. Chicken wasn't grilled like what I'm used to, but my kid liked it. Whereas I can accept the criticisms that others have made (Brian J's complaints about the noodles and broth), I can also say that this is the best pho I've had in over four years since moving here - mainly because the other bowls I've tried here in Kansas/Kansas City have been...wanting. I got the #10, large. Pho with not only steak slices but also meatballs, tripe, and tendon. Mmmm chewy beef tendon. Funky sliced up tripe bits. All of the veggies I'd expect, and fresh, not cheating and serving me some questionable bean sprouts and mint (of all things!) instead of purple basil. I rolled out of there a happy man. read more

Ok I live in Austin, TX, and have had a lot of Pho at different places. Pho is a lovely broth soup with lots of herbs and different ingredients its amazing on a rainy day (and when you're sick) Pho here was sweet tepid dish water. I took one bite and about spit it out. I got the chicken Pho (I dont like tripe) and it was just "broth," Chicken, bean sprouts, and a sprig of cilantro with some noodles. No amount of salt or Sriracha could cover up the sweetness of the dishwater. Three bites and I just left the bowl on the counter and walked out. read more

Although the lobby is not enormous the heart of the workers and effort they expend to make your meal is. Absolutely phenomenal experience every time I've been. Pho is not as good as in Wichita, but it comes close. The pho always tastes the same whenever I come here, unlike other pho places I have tried, it varies from day to day. The combination fried rice is very good! Good consistent pho and great service here! Definitely worth eating here :) 9/4/15 - went down one star.... Ordered the bulgogi and has no flavor what so ever. Don't order Korean good here (they obviously do not know how to make Korean food) You have been warned. We love pho and have been very disappointed with the offerings in Lawrence. My sons and I decided to stop by Little Saigon Cafe for lunch today, and we found a new place to add to our favorites list! We all ordered the #10, chicken pho. And we all LOVED it! The serving was large enough to satisfy my 17 year-old and more than enough for the rest of us. I would love to sample something else from the huge menu, but I loved the pho so much, it will be difficult to take a chance on another dish! I went for lunch while on a business trip. I had the regular sized bowl of seafood pho. It was delicious and had plenty of seafood and noodles. It was also actually a regular sized bowl, and not a big one like the "regulars" at other places in other cities. The broth was really tasty. I sat at the bar (it is really small inside) and the sauces to put in the pho were within easy reach. I'm accustomed to getting a plate of bean sprouts and basil leaves and limes, but they didn't give me that. There was some cilantro already in the bowl. The staff is friendly and helpful. I would call this a mom and pop type place. A very small store with about 6 tables and a counter with stools. Super nice family! My youngest son ordered the vegetable fried rice and he misunderstood what he was ordering. The lady noticed his disappointment and brought him out some white rice without hesitation. Our family are huge Pho fans so we like to try it in new cities. While I enjoyed the authentic flavor, I would have preferred the basil, bean sprouts, etc to have been served separate like I'm used to. It was very flavorful though and there were plenty of customers to keep the kitchen busy. Give it a try if you love authentic Vietnamese food. read more

This is the good and inexpensive Vietnamese restaurant. I do like their pho and fresh spring roll. The food is very quick relative to their two or three staff members. The grilled pork over rice and the grilled pork over rice noodle is not very good compared to the Orient in downtown. I tried fried rice here and it was just okay. read more

This place is a little hole in the wall but man the food is to die for! Everything we have had has been great but I still love my favorite, The Pho! Steve and Jose are very personable and the food is always fresh, hot and yummy. Had the Beef Chow Fun today and it was awesome. Also tried the Thai iced tea and that was very good as well. Food is fresh and reasonable. The dining room is very small (about four tables) and there is a little bar with some stools but do yourself a favor and give Little Saigon Cafe a try.
