Outside sign, narrow parking lot but worth the stop
Daniel G.

So we are traveling through and read some good reviews. So we thought...if it's good then great, if not then more food options down the road. This place will be on our come back list as we travel through often. We came in, it's a little dark and the outside sign is slightly aged, but don't let that scare you off...it's worth the stop. Sat down with a couple fresh bread triangles puffs with dipping sauces. I ordered their 3 for $25 which included 2 side salads and 2 10" pizzas. The side salads came out quick, rather fresh with dressing on the side. My wife orders a kebab which was confused in the order so it was offered to quickly remake. My wife opted to have it removed as she tasted my pizzas and decided my food was what she really wanted and it was hot and ready on the table. So while the sign is old and it's dark inside, it's worth the couple minutes drive off the highway to have an incredible meal with some really good people! Stop in, order some food, enjoy the bread on the table and then go back out to work, highway, or home with a filled stomach and a smile from the great experience.

The food here is unremarkable in every way. If you've been skiing all day at Winterplace it's hot and will fill you up with large portions.

Great food, fairly fast service, but the air condition was not working which made it a little uncomfortable, but overall it was great!

Lousy service. Food arrived cold. Waitress couldn't have cared less when we told her. Substandard in every way.

Most mornings we have breakfast in the restaurant. The sourdough French toast is out of this world! Bring your appetite! Three huge slices of French toast with the yummiest fruit compote topping you can imagine! Full of berries and berry flavors! Delicious coffee! A walk around the stalls and a little shopping for presents and we are ready to hit the road for another day of travel! Thank you, Tamarack!

The inside building was filled with local artist creations from lamps, pottery, jewelry, walking sticks, music instruments, blown glass, 2D art and food. After finding out pepperoni rolls are the unofficial state food of WV, we picked 2 up, and made a 4 pack of WV beers. We spent almost 2 hours browsing everything in this shop. You can watch glass being blown and pottery being made through the artists windows. Highly recommend this place if you like local and unique art. Ps, you purchase your things at customer service. It was a bit confusing, a stranger stopped to ask us where to pay so we weren't the only confused ones.

Mind you, the restaurant was not packed, but they seated us in between two tables when there were at least 6 other open tables in the room. Server was quick, friendly. I ordered breadsticks, not realizing that they provide bread for the table (I made the assumption they didn't based on the menu having bread and breadsticks listed). The breadsticks were a very odd texture - seemed doughy but they were not undercooked, lots of butter & garlic. I had the stuffed shells for my entree. My salad consisted of lettuce and cut up tomatoes (which I hate), nothing more. Therefore I had lettuce with my French dressing. The entree came out quickly and looked great. However, the ricotta on the inside of the stuffed shells was super creamy and not very tasty. The sauce was ok, not sweet enough for my liking, but not bad either. The shells themselves were al dente, but seemed chewy. My husband had the shrimp cocktail, which he enjoyed. He ordered the chicken parm with spaghetti as his side. The chicken parm looked great, but seemed to be a frozen chicken patty that was deep fried and drenched in sauce/mozzarella. The spaghetti was pretty good. Overall, meh. Won't be back, but we had something to eat and supported local not a franchise so there's that.

If you ever find yourself drifting through Beckley and your stomach starts whispering sweet…read morenothings... make a hard left into Cheddars Gastro Pub. This place is a bit of a delightful plot twist. From the outside, you might expect the usual--but step inside and suddenly you're in a cozy little universe where the cocktails are dangerously good (and somehow still kind to your wallet), the bar feels like home base, and the food? Way more scratch-made magic than you'd ever guess. And let's talk about Amy. If hospitality were an Olympic sport, she'd have a gold medal and a signature cocktail named after her. Attentive without hovering, friendly without forcing it--just pure, effortless excellence. Whether you're a road warrior passing through or a local in need of a reliable good time, Cheddars delivers that rare combo: great vibe, great food, zero regrets. Go hungry. Leave happy. Possibly stay for one more round than you planned.
