Michelin Star Little Sparrow is one of those restaurants I look forward to whenever I'm back in Atlanta. It captures that wonderful Parisian brasserie feeling without trying too hard--the banquettes, heavy drapes, soft lighting, beautiful tableware and attentive service. Everything feels considered. And then there's the food. The menu is small, the prices are not, but they execute what they do exceptionally well. I was tucked into a beautiful banquette and taken care of by Keenan, who was lovely throughout dinner--warm, polished, knowledgeable and attentive without hovering. First things first: do not skip the bread service. The warm levain baguette arrives wrapped in Little Sparrow-branded paper with their gorgeous butter, EVOO and Maldon salt. It sounds simple. It isn't. That butter sitting in fragrant olive oil with those little pops of sea salt, smeared onto hot, crusty bread? Heaven. Sometimes the simplest things tell you everything you need to know about a kitchen. My usual order here is the chicken schnitzel, which I love, but I promised myself I would branch out. I ordered the Cabillaud Frites--cod with tartar sauce--and Little Sparrow's interpretation of fish and chips is anything but ordinary. The cod arrived as beautifully fried little rounds with a deeply golden, crisp exterior and tender, delicate fish inside. Hot, crunchy, moist, perfectly cooked. The house tartar sauce was delicious. And because apparently I needed more decadence, Keenan brought me garlic aioli for the frites. Yes, please. And those frites. Lordy. Crisp, deeply savory and dangerously easy to keep eating long after you've told yourself you're finished. Dip one into that garlic aioli and good luck stopping. I skipped cocktails this time because I was saving precious real estate for dessert. I usually order the chocolate soufflé, although I continue to wish they would rotate the soufflé flavors. Give me Grand Marnier! And at $22, that soufflé is definitely an investment in dessert theater. Instead, I took the coconut cake back to my hotel. Unfortunately, this was the one miss of the evening. It was overwhelmingly sweet and lacked the richness and complexity I expected from a kitchen operating at this level. It tasted surprisingly ordinary compared with everything that preceded it. I'd skip it next time and return to the soufflé. That small disappointment doesn't change how I feel about Little Sparrow. The dining room is beautiful. The service feels polished and gracious. Even the restrooms and little sitting area carry through the aesthetic. There is an attention to detail here that I appreciate--from the china and menus to the lighting and presentation. Little Sparrow isn't inexpensive, but I don't come here looking for inexpensive. I come because they take seemingly familiar French dishes, focus on technique and ingredients, and make them memorable. If you're anywhere near Atlanta's Westside or the Design District--or frankly, even if you're not--make the detour. Make a reservation, settle into a banquette, order the bread, and get some of that food in your face. Life is too short not to eat well. Get out there and find your next meal. read more

And when you do make recommendations you avoid the pate bc you don't like pickles. Um. OK. I ordered a glass of Pastis after the meal and it was barely a shot. Come on. It came w waaaaay too much tepid water and I'm glad I stopped the server from pouring bc it would've been as tasty and weak as a postage stamp. Who are these servers? read more

Ambiance and decor was absolutely beautiful. It was elegant and moody with dark lights and beautiful small touches. Our server was extremely knowledgeable and had great suggestions. French onion soup was delightful as was the complimentary baguette with salted butter. Neither of us were huge fans of either entree. I ordered the truffle tortellini and expected it to be truffle forward based on the waiter's suggestion. Honestly I felt it lack truffle flavor and was more cheesy and rich. The steak frite was odd- it's less of the traditional steak frite as the steak is chopped and formed into a patty. The flavor was good but it tasted like eating a hamburger. came here for the first time this past weekend and it quickly rose to my favorite restaurant in Atlanta OMG. So dark and cozy inside the restaurant everything was sooooo delicious. To start, they brought me a freshly baked loaf of GF bread and my own plate of salted butter when everyone else was eating bread. Love bar blanc so of course had to try little sparrow! It gets super busy so make sure you have a reservation before you go. Parking is paid in the lot behind the restaurant and maybe they validate it but we were there all afternoon so we just paid for 5 hours for about $15. We started with their complimentary bread and butter (so AMAZING) and then shared some frites. I had the chicken schnitzel and Alex had a beef cheek ravioli. Valet and self parking is available. This parking lot gets pretty busy because there are so many businesses in the area. We made reservations via open table. The host called the day before and checked in which was nice. I did indicate that we were celebrating a birthday and having our valentines celebration. We were sat promptly. The server that brought the drinks spilled 3 drinks on one of my friends but was very apologetic. This is where service got a little slow and again while we waited for our checks. For food starters we tried the raclette frites, hamachi, French onion soup and the Aleppo shrimp. There is also bread service. My friend who ordered the Aleppo wasn't thrilled but i really liked it. We had dining credit from our CSR and made a reso for 6pm on a Saturday and the restaurant was about 30-40% full. By 6:30/7 it was a full house! From the start you are greeted by friendly staff and are seating in the restaurant's beautiful and cozy ambiance. It was a vibe for sure, with warm dimmed lights and thoughtfully designed touches. We ordered the onion soup, slow roasted beef, burger, and basque cheesecake. They started us off with the housemade baguette which was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The generous amount of butter was perfectly salted with maldon salt! The onion soup was super cheesy and rich with carmelized onions. I did wish it was a bit less thick but we still really enjoyed it. The burger was a lot larger than we thought it'd be and it was one of the best burgers we've ever had - so flavorful and juicy. Wednesday 6pm - My colleagues and I were visiting from nyc some local clients and left it up to them to choose the restaurant. What a great choice , loved the bistro feel (similar to pastis in the city ) , decor , the service was impeccable. A very classy establishment with waiters in waistcoats, custom crafted menus, decorative plates, and beautiful decor. The jazz is a bit cliche but somewhat helps captures a 1938 Paris vibe. The valet had not set up when we arrived, and made us move our car after parking because those spots are not marked. Most of the service was attentive, although our waiter didn't visit our table often enough and I couldn't get a drink refill as he was out in the courtyard socializing with his coworkers. We enjoyed the frites and fluke crudo. There's definitely something to be said for a fry that is truly prepped before it hits the oil, and then rolled around and duck fat. True decadence, and French cuisine. While the Edith steak was presented well, it left a bit to be desired by way of value for the price of $90. I love a good steak just as much as anyone else, but I've had tastier steaks for a fraction of the price and around the same size. My hope is that the price reflects the quality of the meat. While pieces of it were medium, as we ordered, it became too rare as we reach the middle, and I had to stop eating it. He opted not to order drinks that evening, and rightfully so because the food was very filling. They're very busy which I know creates a lot of work for them. I just don't know how it got such great ratings. An incredible dining experience, and one of the best I've had in a while. The decor of the restaurant was absolutely beautiful. The intimate lighting really set the mood. Daniella was our server, she was AMAZING. My friends had been there before, but it was my first time. For drinks, we ordered the Encore! Encore!- now the drinks come with salt on the rim, but I asked for mine to have sugar instead. We all loved the encore so much, that we ordered 2 rounds of it. They bring you a nice warm baguette and THEE softest butter for starters. If all I ate was the bread, I would've been satisfied, who doesn't love bread?! For our hors d'oeuvres, we ordered the Jasper Hill Harbison (omggg) and the Onion Soup Gratinee. Again, if this was all I had for the night...MORE than satisfied. The Jasper Hill Harbison paired with the baguette??? I just had the biggest smile on my face on how great everything tasted, and the QUALITY of the food too. At this point, I was halfway full, but as soon as I saw my dinner plate headed towards me, my stomach was open for business. We all ordered the Burger. Ya'll...it was the prettiest burger I've ever seen. The taste though? WOW. I ordered mine medium-well. It was seasoned so well that low key didn't even need ketchup. The frites that were paired with it? OMGGG. The frites were paired with an aioli sauce (delish!). I was stuffed, but it was all so good, I pushed myself to take a few more bites! Even with being full, ya'll know I am greedy! so we ordered the Basque Cheesecake. To my surprise it was delicious, I say that because I wasn't sure how olive oil was going to mesh with cheesecake, but it is something I'd definitely order again. I'm so grateful my friends introduced me to this. This was more than a delicious meal, it was a quality meal, and a quality experience. We celebrated my birthday! The staff went out of their way to celebrate ME!! From the maître d', to the assistant server to our primary server all made me feel special. The food was excellent. The ambiance was classy. We had a server "in training" and she was a pro. Thanks for a really nice experience. read more
