Both of my kids WERE patients here, and we WERE happy with the dentists, assistants, and the environment. Cut to: I arrive (alone, dad's out of town for work) with my two (non-school age) kids for my two year old's appointment and they won't let my 4 year old back and require me to stay with her in the waiting room. So my 2YO, screaming crying terrified, has to go in by herself. They brought her back 10 mins later and she couldn't breathe she was so traumatized. She has been quietly weeping and clinging to me for an hour. HOW can that be better for the exam than having me and my 4YO in the room?! Thanks for making my two year old hate the dentist... Be sure to double-check that your insurance is actually in-network. The front desk staff gave me misleading information about coverage, and I ended up with a bill that was double what they originally estimated. Denise and Maria did a great job helping my 3 year old feel comfortable throughout her first dental appointment. They explained everything before each step and having frozen on the TV certainly made it easy on us all. They were so sweet and great with helping kids through new experiences. My daughter and I spent maybe 5 mins in the waiting room and the whole time was spent exploring the silly mirrors and murals. My daughter thought we were there to play in the waiting room lol. She loved it! I was explained costs and insurance coverage very clearly before the visit too. The dentist was friendly and took time to explain. They have clear workflows within the office that make the office run so smoothly. Even when it came time for X-rays, they had 3 staff there to help support the process- amazing patient experience for both my daughter and me as a parent! Wonderful experience! First appointment took about an hour with cleaning, X-rays and all the intro stuff, but future appointments were estimated at 40 apts. It certainly depends on how your child reacts. read more

Shady front desk and billing practices. If you call and ask if they take your insurance, I encourage you to ask if they are in network and then call your insurance to double check. I was told they accepted my insurance, confirmed it at the appointment with the billing person and was told the procedure should be covered at %100 minus the nitrous oxide. I even told the billing person we were switching dentists because our previous one was no longer in network and she just smiled and nodded. Returned 3 weeks later for my sons follow up and was told the bill was $1100 because our insurance was out of network. I was confused because I had called and asked if they took our insurance prior to the first appointment, talked to billing at the appointment about insurance and they said it was accepted. Her reply was that they accept all insurances and was told I should have asked if it was in network. That the previous estimate was just an estimate. I take responsibility that I should have confirmed with my insurance, paid the bill and understand dental estimates but I have never had $900 difference in my estimate. From talking to a lot of other moms in the area it sounds like this shadiness to get people in and then give them bills that are hundreds of dollars more than their estimate is common. I've been to a lot of dentist and have never had something like this happen. read more

Just wanted to follow up on how much or a rip off and terrible dentist this place is. Went about 6 months ago with a 4 and 2 year old, had a terrible experience, yes the staff was nice, but for 550$ a quick 2 minute "cleaning" underrated dental inspection, and didn't even go through the baby teeth for an adequate cleaning. We finished up and were sent to take a picture, then a bill that was ridiculous. Don't ever go or waste your time if you actually your children's teeth to get cleaned. We just got their teeth cleaned again and had such a great experience with another dentist, that the technician actually spent time cleaning their teeth, making them comfortable and seeing a dentist that actually cared about their patients and their teeth There was no comprehensive exam done by the dentists, a quick sweep of the mouth, and moved in to the next room. The fees that are associated with a quick count is unacceptable. Use a piece of floss, maybe put your hands on some dental tools to exam teeth and ensure proper tooth formation, no decay, and remove any plaque. Non of which either assistant or dentist did. Just an eye opening experience, for a "specialty" dental group to charge more, and do less.... nice job, you guys accomplished your "specialty" care read more

I really enjoyed my experience here. It was my first time here. My appointment was for 3:30 in the afternoon. I got there about 15 to 20 minutes early. My son was already in the chair at 3:30 PM. Not only did Dr. Jerry come out and speak with me before the process began, they also came out and gave a post visit consultation. They gave my son two gifts (one for the season and one for being a first-time visitor). They also were able to schedule me for my next appointment that day. I've never been the seen early-let alone on time-at any medical facility. For that reason, Dr. Jerry gets a five star rating from me. I have been taking my daughters here for years and i love it everyone is so attentive on the kids and making them feel safe and comfortable. I have not had a one bad experience until most recently my daughters went for a routine checkup and had to get x-rays done. My daughters had dental surgery when they were younger, so they are very nervous when going to the dentist even if it's just for cleaning. Once x-rays were done and cleaning was done my daughter felt like she had to spit up I'm guessing it was from the cleaning. I asked to dental assistant which her name was Marlene she looked at my daughter and said, "it's your saliva just swallow it." I looked at the assistant and said my daughter would like to spit it out where is your nearest sink. I was so disgusted at the way she spoke to my daughter I just wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. Once in the car my daughter then tells me when she was getting her x-rays done, she told the dental assistant Marlene, she couldn't do it because it was hurting her teeth. My daughter said Malene told her if a 3-year-old can do it you can do it with an attitude and making my daughter feel intimated and uncomfortable. While the kids are getting x-rays done, they are in a separate room where parents are not allowed there for, I did not hear that conversation. I really do love the rest of the staff so I will continue to take my daughters there, but I will ask that Malene will not be my daughters dental assistant. This is a pediatric dentist and i feel if you do not have the patience to deal with kids maybe you should not be working here. read more

Worst experience I have ever had with my 5 yrs old! We went to this place, since it had stellar reviews and my daughter had multiple cavities. We waited long time, we had to talk a lot before we even saw the doctor ( so we wasted good amount of time for nothing, it's just how they operate and nothing to do with our personal case) and we finally got to see the doctor. She was nice, they did x rays and we agreed on a treatment plan. We scheduled next appointment and I paid a $50 deposit along with whatever was due for this first visit. Later on the same day, however, the doctor who owns the practice Jerry calls me and states that unfortunately they won't be willing to work with my daughter unless I agree to put her to sleep! I said to him that I am not comfortable doing this. She had have cavities done before and she had handled them as a normal 5 yrs old child would - rather good in my opinion. So I said no. Not only he showed no understanding to me and my concerns as a parent, but he was totally out of line stating that the office that had worked prior with my girl should have never done so! I was simply blown away! Cancelled and I am never going back to this place. And for the record my girl is cavity free, no putting to sleep and everything went well, at a different dental office of course. read more

I recently visited Children's Dentistry and I was very pleased with my experience. The first thing you notice is their very accommodating waiting room filled with all sorts of things to keep children and adults entertained. There is a giant flat screen tv playing popular kids movies, foam furniture for the little ones to sit/climb on and 3 video gaming stations that even the youngest child can operate. As an adult I was pleased with the large selection of magazines and utilized their very fast, FREE wifi so be sure to bring your tablet or laptop at your next visit if you are going to be there awhile. The ladies at the front desk were extremely nice and have always been prompt to return my phone calls. Dr. Jerry was very professional and able to answer all of my questions. I would absolutely recommend Children's Dentistry, especially if you are looking for a pediatric dentist. My 3 year old son and I were asked to leave today by a rude staff member, after sitting in a room for 40 mins. They stated that because I was a nurse I was not allowed inside and they refused to see my son. While i understand and respect their right to have this policy, it should have been communicated to me in a more respectful manner... and preferably weeks ago when I booked the appointment and before I took time off work. I will not be returning to this place! I have 2 small kids and my husband and I was running 10 min late. I called them to inform but no answer and they texted stating they were on another call and advised to text which I did. No response! We arrive literally at 9:10am and they stated they can't see my daughter due to her fiillings and xray but they can see my son who is 22 months..The priority was my 5 year old to get fillings but they didn't apologize for the inconvenience and manager whoever she is came over and was nonchalant about it! So no we won't be returning plus with my BCBS PPO insurance which would of been $250 for 2 fillings so expensive anyways definitely a blessing in disguise ! When I made the appointment, they told me on the phone that they took our insurance(BCBS PPO) but what they didn't mention was that they were out of network. My wife and I took the day off to take them both and they called us 1.5 hrs before my appointment to tell us that our out of pocket cost for the day was going to be +$600 for both my kids!!! They said that they normally don't do calls and this was a courtesy and they could've not said anything and just waited for us to show up and tell us. This office is fantastic! Their waiting area is huge with plenty of seats for parents to sit while we wait for the kids, video game consoles, tv's and toys. The staff here is friendly. During the consultation they go over everything with you in detail. They show you the X-ray results and talk about the good and the bad. You get to meet the dentist during the consultation as well so this made me more comfortable bringing my son here. At the end, we were sent home with a bag full of goodies!! :) read more

The staff made little effort to comfort my child and the doctor entered the room expecting me to immediately hold down my child. When I said I was uncomfortable with going right to that extreme I was told "there are other dentists in the area that don't use restraints and you are welcome to go to them". I really had no idea what to expect when I started looking for a dentist for my 2 1/2 year old daughter. When I came accross Dr. Udelson's practice it seemed like a really fun place (and is in network for our insurance), so we gave it a shot! Can't think of anything they could have done better. They sent all the paperwork ahead of time, so I had nothing to fill out when I arrived. The waiting room was very clean and kid friendly, with Disney movies playing on a flat screen TV. My daughter had a ball jumping around on the tiny kid chairs in the middle of the rooom as well as looking at the awesome aquarium with many tiny Nemo fish in it. The staff were courteous and friendly and explained every step of the process. From reading the materials I already knew I wouldn't be going in the room with her, but it was totally fine. She was in and out in under 15 minutes with a bag full off goodies -- a toy, a toothbrush, and two stickers! They even took my digital camera in with her, and took some pictures for me -- she was brushing this huge stuffed dinosaur's teeth! After she was done we sat down with Dr. U and he explained the x-rays and how to start flossing. Then we booked our next 6 month appointment and the front desk person showed us exactly what would be billed to the insurance company (very good thing to do, and I appreciated it). If you are looking for an all around great kids' dentist, I'd recommend Dr. U's practice without reservation. Other reviews I saw somewhere mention insurance bill issues, but honestly, I don't think one issue like that should really sway you from not going here. read more

I would never go back here. The first time you visit they have to meet with basically a financial counselor which should have been my first clue this was not the place for us. Then they did a cleaning and x-rays...all normal stuff that has been covered by insurance in the past. However they still charged me $25 later in the mail. Then they let me know my son had 4 cavities and they all came with an individual treatment plan and estimate on the cost for each cavity. We got another pediatric dentist opinion and they said my son only had 2 cavities and they could be done at the same time if my kiddo was doing okay with everything with the first filling and it was 1/4 of the cost of the previous estimate. I wish I would have read all these posts prior to visiting this place as there are many about how much this place is focused on charging so much for everything they do since they are a specialty pediatric place. read more

I took my 4 year old for an emergency visit as they were very welcoming. I will not take that way however when it came to the total I was a bit confused. Then weeks later I was sent about the same amount they billed my insurance. I took my 4 year old back for an actual check up and came out with a 5k treatment plan. Not disputing that my child needs work but not at the cost of 5k. I immediately called my insurance which is PPO to inquire about eligibility and coverage. My child is not maxed out and appears the treatment plan is not submitted prior so I would have paid 1k for that visit had I started the treatment plan. Its really interesting that they push the laughing gas which is not covered by insurances. Never the less I went home to research reviews and it appears reviews are complaining about the cost and how the prices are inflated. They come to you nicely with finance options but there is NO WAY a 4 year old treatment plan should be 5k ! This amount is mo where near what the other dentist she was going to quoted me. Im utterly confused, disgusted, and feel taken advantage for when Im trying to get treatment for my child. Hiding behind these friendly faces is crazy when you robbing parents. read more

Former patient of this practice- I hope I offer a different perspective since most other reviews are from parents/guardians. I went to this practice from maybe 2000-2009 (pre current location), ages 3-13. I will admit wasn't the best at taking care of my teeth as a kid. This practice made breaking my habits much harder. I still struggle with it today. This practice gave me nightmares before appointments in my younger years. At age 4, I had 4 silver caps places on my primary molars, and after reading other reviews this was probably not needed. I was 4 so I didn't have a choice in the matter. I was strapped down to a bundle board, nitrous given (which I didn't mind that) but being tied down subject to painful instruments in your mouth isn't great. Any cavities I ended up getting got filled with grey fillings always with nitrous until I was 11 I think. I didn't know tooth colored fillings were a thing until I switch to my parents dentist. Normal cleanings we're ok, the hygienists can be a little aggressive in getting the plastic in your mouth for x-ray backings. Then you're in a room with 2 other kids, 3 chairs total, watching some movie but sitting there getting your teeth cleaned and you can look over seeing the other kids. Dr. Jerry would only look at my teeth for 3-4 minutes and telling the hygienist to mark where there are cavities if there are any. This moves to the report card. I always thought this was most embarrassing part, the hygienist comes out and explains to your parent in front of the other parents in the waiting room. No parent wants to hear their kid has cavities with 3-6 other parents in the room too. It's unprofessional and the kid doesn't feel great about it either. I know I didn't. Luckily, as soon as I became a teenager and got my braces off I switched to my parents dentist who was great and went to till I moved after college. This practice gave me anxiety about going to the dentist. I still make regular appointments with my current one because it's the right thing to do, but I dread it. The appointment is on my mind till it's over, making it hard to focus on my day job sometimes. Think twice or get a second opinion when before taking your kids here. It can mess them up, and effect dental habits many years later. read more

Our experience with Udelson was not positive. He recommended procedures far in excess of other dentists in the area. I can't really evaluate his treatment choices for our son because I am not a dentist and because we did not take our son to another pediatric dentists. He had been mismanaged by several other non-specialist dentists so we were desperate for effective care, which we did receive. It did seem quite excessive (as noted above by another patron), but our issues were definitely take care of. We are cash payers and the price was very high for all of the services. They offer no cash discount and the office was not willing to work with us on price. Our son is 8 and he has been a great dental patient since he was 4. No prior dentist needed to sedate or restrain him. Udelson insisted on both. Even after we requested he try working on our son without sedation, he still gave our kid the gas unnecessarily. On multiple occasions. Blame us for returning, but he was already part way through a multi-stage procedure and we felt locked into the treatment plan. I strongly discourage patronage of this dentist. He seems to be skilled and well trained, but his bedside manner is lacking and prices are excessive. I am happy we moved away. We have many better options in our area. If you live in Oak Park or River Forest and need a pediatric dentist, drive to the city where there are more and better options. read more

Very fancy office and quite the sophisticated operation, but I was not happy with our experience here. Dr. Udelson's treatment plan for my 4.5-year-old son was overkill, as confirmed by two other highly recommended dentists. I also did not appreciate the scare tactics he used in trying to convince me to accept his recommendation, and thought his manner was rather brusque for someone dealing with kids. After hearing his over-the-top recommendation, I spoke with other local parents and learned that he has a reputation for this type of thing -- recommending treatments well beyond what the child really needs. I was glad to find another dentist who is recommending much less for my son. In addition, be aware that you are not able to accompany your child into the exam room. While I can somewhat understand the logic of this, the way they carted my son off made me very uncomfortable -- I would have liked the chance to go back there with him at least the first time to see the set-up. In summary, be sure to get a second opinion if Dr. Udelson's recommendations seem excessive. read more

Love this place. They are always patient with my baby which means an abundance to me. The office staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable in the processes and procedures performed in the office. My daughter is 4 and they treat her like a big kid! I love that because it makes her want to behave more like one to impress them during her visit ..lol. She has begun a treatment plan with some pretty detailed work. Of course the mom in me is as usual extremely concerned and asking a million questions but the staff works to ensure that I am fine as well. My kids still go here because this was the first Childrens Dentist office that I had noticed when I first relocated to Chicago.. i've been here 6 yrs now and honestly I haven't seen Dr. Udelson in the past 3 yrs. It doesn't look like he's ever in the office when my children are being seen. There is someone else working on their teeth but I don't know who she is either. I hope that this improves. Most of the staff are extremely Sweet and they tend to remember your children. I did have a small altercation with a desk person a yr or so ago. She had a horrible attitude but as of recently I don't believe that she's there. The cost of office visits can be pricey as Even with Full Coverage Insurance that normally pays for Fillings .. I'm out of almost $200 to have 2 of my sons teeth filled ... this is AFTER the insurance has covered the Full Cost ... Strange but I will go ahead with it...Hoping to see Dr. Udelson in the office before my kids outgrow this particular office. I think that Whomever is working on my kids teeth should have her/his name added to the Roster Also ASK how much the Services are BEFOREHAND and Suggest to get your XRays Elsewhere or you will be out of almost $500 ! .. they will say it's because they are Specialist but i'm sorry, it doesn't cost $500 to use a smaller utensil to clean some teeth. Add to that you're using LESS product for smaller children. This place is Highway Robbery. Although standard teeth cleaning given for more insurers, plan on paying out of pocket so that they can reach about $500 for a 15 - 20 minute teeth cleaning. If they attempt to collect additional $$ that they managed to not bill for in prior years, they automatically harass you and send to collections 1 week later. As if it's YOUR Fault that THEY Managed to High Jack Funds from you and weren't able to so YEARS LATER they will attempt to backtrack to recoup payments that they FAILED to bill. in all Fairness.. JUST DONT GO!! Save your $1000's and $1000's and $1000's that you pay just for 15- 20 minute teeth cleaning and go elsewhere .. We've had great experiences with the office staff and Dr. Yang. My child is a toddler and they've been extremely patient in getting younger kids to cooperate and even be excited about going to the dentist.The staff was very thorough in explaining how they work with patients and different techniques that you can either agree to implement or not agree to implement. This information was presented verbally and in writing and we were given clear explanations, which I greatly appreciated. This dentist office is MADE FOR KIDS! There are many activities for the kids to do in the waiting room and while in the chair. The staff is not just friendly, they are KIDS FRIENDLY.
