Ordered via doordash this past weekend while attending Setsucon. It did take a while for our order to be delivered but I'm chalking that up to the convention and a larger than usual crowd. Once we did get the order we were quite pleased with the amount of food we got. Husband god the general tso box with general tso chicken, California roll, shrimp shumai, salad and shrimp tempura. I ordered the Tokyo combo with California roll, tuna roll and salmon roll with salad and octopus sushi. The price was a bit steep but with the amount and quality of food we got it justified the price. Even had some left over chicken for the next day's lunch. Only downside is the bubble tea. I ordered a regular Thai tea and it arrived without ice, slightly warm and no straw. So I had to drink it plain while all the bubbles remained at the bottom. It was prob warm from sitting while the food cooked but the straw missing was an oversight on the restuarnt. Overall a decent place to grab a bite if you're craving Asian food. read more

The best sushi around! Not only is the food so fresh and delicious, but the employees are always so kind! I cannot recommend more. The sexy jalapeños are a must, so good! I was extremely disappointed with this place. I went in for sushi only. The menu had a good selection of the most popular rolls I've had in other restaurants, but they made these rolls with different ingredients. One example was the spider roll, it should have a lightly battered soft shell crab, complete with legs and a bit of spicy mayo. Theirs had no real crab, only artifical krab with a heavy mayo sauce. In fact, many of their rolls had mayo or spicy mayo when they shouldn't have. For the price they charge, I hoped they would have fresh ingredients and at least basic rolls on par with other sushi restaurants. The service was barely there, and the restaurant had no ambiance. Being from the south, I'm not used to seeing snow that actually lingers on the ground like in PA. Which got me in the mood for some ramen when I visited for a business trip in late January. I was a bit skeptical when I walked in because it was dead inside and the menu was written on a white board, but I actually ended up being pleasantly surprised. I started with a seaweed salad, which was pretty run of the mill. For my entree, I ordered the seafood spicy miso ramen. It was presented beautifully. The broth was well seasoned and soothed my soul with its warmth. There was a decent amount of noodles and seafood (scallops and shrimp) for the price of $15. I did think the shrimp was a touch overcooked though. When I return to the area, I would be interested to give their sushi a try as they have a pretty extensive menu despite the location being relatively small. read more

Overall the atmosphere of this place is lacking. Even if you are dining in, the food is served in plastic to go containers. I had ramen and it was just okay and overpriced. Boba tea was small and not fresh tapioca pearls. We were given small plastic spoons and one napkin. When asking for more napkins, the lady behind the counter said she already gave us one. She also was very rude in asking if we could pay by cash instead of credit card. I found places in State College and Johnstown are more affordable, better atmosphere, and taster food. Took a little trip to Altoona yesterday day, and came across this little restaurant! They have so much to choose from, and food is so delicious! They made everything fresh. The dumplings and the California roll were so good! The people there were so welcoming and friendly. Their pricing was amazing I'm definitely coming here again. Love this place so much! First time I went there, I got takoyaki and spicy miso ramen. The staff was extremely nice and the wait wasn't too long for the food. The takoyaki was exactly like I have had in bigger cities. Ramen was delicious! The noodles were great and the broth was so flavorful. I like how they give you pork, a hardboiled egg and a little strip of crab meat. I wanted bubble tea, but they explained it wouldn't be available for a few more days. So I went back on Thursday, and got bubble tea and spicy maki sushi combo. Both were very good and I'll definitely be back to get more things on the menu. read more

I'm giving it a 2 stars only because the sweet potato roll and the Pink Lady rolls were amazing! We went twice. I thought the first time disappointment was due to just opening since they didn't have bubble tea or another menu item we wanted and the food wasn't good. The Habachi seafood and steak tasted like they were freezer burned. There was no show- they literally cooked it in a corner behind a counter while we sat at a table. Fast forward to the second trip- My friend got the Spicy Miso Ramen and she insisted that I try it because she said it was inedible. The only way to describe the flavor is to say that it tasted like a urinal deodorizer smells. The pork slices in it were flavorless and tough. It was beyond inedible. This time I ordered two sushi rolls and they were good for this area. My friend told the girl at the register she wasn't a fan of the Ramen and she couldn't eat it and instead of offering her something else or removing it from her bill they just said "oh" and pointed to the garbage can. I rated this restaurant 3 stars because their sushi is amazing! I love their spicy California roll, the sauce on it is super yummy. I also love the Boston roll they have here. I've been here a few times so I've tried their hibachi and ramen also. The ramen didn't impress me at all. It tasted plain. I understand this place just opened but so far it's not even worth it. The place is way too small for a hibachi grill. I walked in the other day and it was full of people, but the sign said closed so I figured they forgot to flip it, they didn't. It was actually closed in the middle of the day and she told me to come back in a few hours. No way. So I decided to try again yesterday. All I ordered was a sushi roll. The tropical roll to be exact. They had no mango puree for some reason but she put strawberries on it??? Strawberries on sushi??? Ok. So essentially I paid over 12 for one tiny little roll that was so bland and dry and didn't even have the right ingredients on it. I'm annoyed. I'm going to try this place ONE more time and if it still sucks I'm not going back again. I have friends that went too and it took them 40 minutes to give them a bowl of ramen. read more

I got the Hibachi chicken and shrimp. The shrimp was obviously Frozen and bought from Walmart. The chicken was awful. It came in a take home container even though I got it for there and the soy sauce was dumped into one part of the container. It also came with so many onions that Shrek would blush and the mushrooms tasted horrible. I ate at 3 and the frown on my face is still there. If you value your money and taste buds, I wouldn't go here. It cost me $16 to be disappointed and $4 of that was for a water. read more

My experience at Little Tokyo was underwhelming to say the least. Went for a bowl of Ramen and Bubble Tea only to be told they have no tea of any kind and are waiting for it to arrive. This is a week after opening mind you so already not a good impression, as I settled for a bottle of Dasani water I paid $2 for. The Ramen didn't fair much better, as for $13 I got a not very big size bowl of noodles, a few strips of onion, 2 small pieces of meat, and a hard boiled egg that was cut in half. You never want to leave a food place feeling hungry and not only did I leave hungry, but disappointed knowing that for $17 (as I left a $2 tip) I could've went to a place in Altoona like Aki, Applebees, Chili's etc and could've gotten way more food portion portion wise for the same amount of even slightly less money. Overall those are my main criticisms of Little Tokyo: upper end restaurant prices, but served in basic takeout style containers with small portions and the vibe of just cutting corners like you would see at a cheap takeout place with the interior space to match. I hope they improve, but if this is the impression it leaves a week after lauch I cannot say i'm optimistic. read more
