They had a nice crispy outside with a delicious fresh fried flavor. In the future I think I will ask for a side of their hot sauce so that I can dip my fries in it. Such a great little place and the wait staff was just so friendly and efficient! We snuck down here when another restaurant was a bit too busy, even with a reservation. We ate outside since they have 3 little areas and it was a nice morning. I felt the prices were pretty reasonable, especially when our food came and it was so well done. If you are into the style, the French omelette was wonderful. My husband got a "basic" ham and egg breakfast sandwich but it was so well made...the ham was clearly not just some regular packaged deli meat and the bread was so good. We enjoyed all of the food and would love to come back for lunch too. Great find! read more

I had previously gone to Littlebird and had an awful experience due to a rude hostess. Recently, a friend suggested going to the restaurant. Reluctantly, I agreed. Walking towards the entrance, there was a group of people, including two staff members, trapped inside their "warming" shelter located just outside the restaurant. We provided aid for their escape before walking inside. Once inside, we were quickly seated at a table not too far from the door. The staff entering and exiting the restaurant allowed the near freezing wind to gust through the restaurant. We asked to be seated towards the back to avoid the windstorm and we were accommodated. Unfortunately, even at the back of the restaurant, we could easily feel the gust of freezing wind sweep through the restaurant. It was not pleasant. We suggested to our waitress that the owner may want to consider installing a temporary wind block as there are at Rose's or the Greenwell. We were informed that this was not allowed due to building code. This was unbelievable, considering the temporary plastic sheet dining room that was placed outside on the sidewalk. Nevertheless, the setting and the limited menu that included a $19 wagyu burger and an $18 chicken sandwich, we decided to leave instead of enduring an overpriced meal in an over chilled cave. I call strike two, but wait! Littlebird hit an in-field fly ball and was an easy out. Came here with my fiance for breakfast around 10 am on a Sunday. It was indeed busy, but we got seated at the bar right away. The bartender had lots of energy, and he walked us through some items on the menu. The decor was simple but enough because the food showed for itself. Ambiance was quiet but nice. We ordered grapefruit juice that was bitter and tarte, not pictured. I ordered the two eggs over easy, potatoes, and toast. The toast is made in-house along with the fruit jam. Potatoes were crispy and delicious. It was a simple breakfast but hit the spot. My fiance ordered the boursin omelet and a side of pork belly. He says that this is the best omelet he has ever had! Little Bird is a nice and cozy establishment that includes small indoor setting but some outdoor greenhouses for diners. We came for brunch first thing when they opened, with just a few people waiting outside, but the place filled up quick for the first hour. I dont normally go for sweet options, but I switched things up. I got the Bread Pudding French Toast Sticks which were delicious, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. This is THE place to have brunch in downtown Grand Rapids. Be warned that there will likely be a long wait if you walk in on a weekend. I had to wait 45 minutes after arriving at 1pm on a Saturday. The restaurant is quite small and can seat ~35-40 people. It was super packed, and for a good reason! My food was delicious and my waitress was very kind. The breakfast menu lists a ton of options that sound phenomenal, but I had to narrow it down and went with the smoked salmon breakfast sandwich, a side of latkes, and a hot chocolate. *Wow* The salmon sandwich was the highlight of my weekend. Between two soft, buttery buns were silky scrambled eggs, small slivers of red onion, slices of lightly smoked salmon, and the most perfect dill cream cheese. I asked for no capers in my sandwich, though. I wish I had access to that sandwich on the regular at home - that's how good it was. If you like salmon, go for it. The latkes were a little on the dry end, though they were still tasty. They came with a side of creme fraiche and apple butter. Both delicious toppings, though I prefer the creme fraiche. By the way, their ranch has a lot of dill in it, which made it stand out from other ranch dressings and it tasted great. The rich and creamy hot chocolate is made in house and mine came with a cute leaf drawing on top. Little Bird is, without a doubt, a prime brunch spot for amazing food at a reasonable price. Littlebird is a solid choice for a ladies brunch or a small business lunch. Their menu is creative and fresh with a wide variety of breakfast/lunch options. The menu dabbles in 'foodie' but also provides larger portion sizes for those who don't like leaving hungry. With a smaller store front space, the atmosphere is cute and thoughtful. The lesser amount of tables allows it's staff to provide top notch service - huge plus these days! The down side about the space is that if you have to use the restroom you're better off holding it until you get back home. And if you have to... don't slip on the greasy floors on your way down the back hallway. During warmer months there do have outdoor seating right along Monroe Center. Ultimately, the food was good. But the prices were high, and (parts of) our service were lacking. One of our party was pregnant, so we asked for a non-alcoholic old fashioned (the server himself recommended it). Of course, the non-alcoholic drink he brought us had CBD in it. Um...we just told you she's pregnant? You didn't think this might be a problem? And then when we pointed out the problem, he didn't apologize, nor did he ask how he could make it better, or offer to take it back and not charge us. Instead, he looked at another member of our party and said, "You can still enjoy it, right?" Actually, he looked at her, but said he was asking about other people enjoying it. We were confused. Food wasn't particularly fast to come out. It was all good enough food that people should be happy enough with eating here. The menu changes frequently, but the burger was fine (nothing amazing -- ignore the rave reviews from local hipsters) and the dessert "Eton Mess" was good, but nothing amazing, and seemed a bit like some random things haphazardly thrown together in a bowl. The fries were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. More stand-out than the burger. Overall, it's pricey, and the service needs work. I was so impressed with Littlebird. It's quite small, but so cozy. Everything is beautiful and inviting, from the features of the old building, to the intentional ambient lighting, and the leather booth along the back. I had the roast turnip dish, which was a bit of a risk for me because I'm a massive carnivore. But it was delightful. Beautifully presented, and very flavorful. My friend got the scallops and loved them. We also got a couple of drinks and those were also pretty and tasty. The service was perfect as well. I will definitely go back. The smashburger was excellent, and the fries were some of the best fries we've ever had. This was definitely an interesting take on your normal "insert ingredient here" hash -- multiple chunks of kimchi, potatoes, veggies, and of course, the pork belly. Very healthy portion. Their coffee cups are also small for my taste. Drank that super fast and then waited a long time for another - they offered the same pot of cold coffee - once asked to fix, they did. Seemed like the same servers had tables inside and out so we saw our server very little time, she also was not familiar with the menu (must be new!) While the overnight oats are tasty - beware they are also served ice cold. The soft scramble eggs are light yet the cabbage accompaniment was overly acidic. Nice toast compliment.
