Signed up for the assisted stretch…read moreprogram and renewed my contract three times because my therapist Joy was excellent, she took the time to develop in-depth understanding of my pre-existing conditions built over 84 sessions. Joy left EOS. Against my better judgement I allowed them to book me with a new therapist because I was locked into contracts (they kept making me sign new ones instead of moving to a weekly or monthly fee which is a giant red flag. They first scheduled me with a new therapist without even notifying me until I saw a text saying "hey are you showing up". I then allowed them to put me with a replacement therapist no-call no-showed a scheduled appointment on March 3rd with zero communication. I immediately requested cancellation and a refund for my six unused sessions. It took 26 days and three escalation emails before anyone responded. The district manager's reply acknowledged the sessions are unused and available but refused to refund them essentially telling me to either use them with a stranger who knows nothing about my body, or lose what I paid for (hundreds of dollars). Three contracts honored in full on my end. When they lost their trainer, they expected me to absorb the consequence. That's not how you treat loyal customers. I would have expected them to do the right thing, disappointed.

This Crossfit "Garage Gym" isn't your typical vacant warehouse in the industrial part of town. It's…read morehoused inside the beautiful, vibrant Jewish Community Center on North Medical Drive. The JCC provides life-stuff for people of all ages: a dynamic early childhood daycare program; concerts, dinners, lectures, and art shows; social outings for seniors; and a diverse health and fitness program with pool, gym and weight room facilities, and a glut of yoga and Zumba classes. Sooo much Zumba. The point is, the Garage Gym manages to blend the wonderful inclusiveness of the rest of the JCC with programming that gets every athlete to perform their best and make measurable fitness progress. When you arrive at the JCC for Crossfit classes, you'll be greeted by nice teenagers at the front desk, and you'll go through the sun-lit atrium and trip over children and their parents and art projects on your way downstairs. You'll pass the weight room, cardio machines, yoga studios, and basketball court to get to the Garage Gym. So many choices --- something for everybody, no matter what their fitness level or health goals. But the Garage Gym is by far my favorite. Crossfit, the "Sport of Fitness," has multiple faces, depending on who you talk to. As Greg Glassman (Crossfit founder) has said, "The needs of Olympic athletes and our grandparents differ by degree not kind. Our terrorist hunters, skiers, mountain bike riders and housewives have all found their best fitness from the same regimen." I've noticed that some Crossfit gyms attract the "elite" in fitness (where everyone thinks they have a shot at winning the annual Crossfit Open), while other gyms attract amateurs and weekend warriors and turn them into people constantly surprised by their own success, in weightlifting, climbing a rope, sprinting, agility, etc. The JCC Garage Gym is this second kind of gym. The classes are very small, and everyone seems to have their own preferred time slot for working out (though the more advanced athletes gravitate towards the morning classes). Every day, we all do the same Workout of the Day, scaled to our ability. The workouts run the gamut from short to long, brutal to basic. We usually start with a bit of skill work (such as an Olympic lift, or a new technique for an old skill, like running). There's always something new to learn. Oh yeah, the leadership and programming: Henry B, Large-And-In-Charge, carries us through every day. He's a former Marine, and owned and operated Crossfit Legion in Tenessee before relocating to SLC. He's got experience and a vision of where he wants us to be. He puts a TREMENDOUS amount of thought into the programming for each month of workouts, and it shows. He ensures that we're doing the technical stuff right before we do it to exhaustion in a timed workout. If he schedules us a brutal, long workout, he ensures that it's not too technical that we do crappy repetitions. He pushes us. He encourages us. He [gently] bullies us. And we take it because we love it. Henry, Frederika, Leslie, and the rest of the coaches are not only knowledgeable, but they care about the whole person. They're not going to tell you how to live your life, but if your blood sugar drops in workout after workout, they're going to ask about your diet and tell you to eat more. If you don't show up for a week, they're going to ask where you've been. True to the spirit of the JCC, the Garage Gym is a wonderful place to grow. They're like family now ... some days you want to kick' em in the head, but even then, you'd defend them with your life, with as many burpees as necessary.

He's great at motivating me to push myself to he next level. In my opionion, the single most important factor in choosing a a crossfit gym is the quality of instuction and SLC garage gym definitely has some of the best in the area. F45 is a functional training gym that runs 45-minute workouts with high work-to-rest ratios (e.g.,…read more45 seconds work, 15 seconds rest, repeat). The workouts are programmed, so you follow the instructions given for each station, but the gym has plenty of equipment, so workouts change from day to day and don't get repetitive. Mondays & Wednesdays are cardio days (though you'll still have weighted exercises), Tuesday & Thursdays are strength days (think more weight and slower reps), and Fridays - Sundays are hybrid days (combo of strength + cardio). The workouts are very challenging and will have you gassed by the end, but they're only 45 minutes, and the coaches provide modifications, so you can power through! The equipment here is great and in good condition. This location recently opened a "Recovery Room" that offers massage guns, foam rollers, and compression boots to help your body relax and recover after tough workouts -- it's amazing! The only variable at F45 (which is probably true at most gyms) is the coach you have for your workouts. Tim (who coaches Mondays and Wednesdays) is super high energy, remembers your name, corrects your form, and will encourage and push you without being overbearing -- he's the best! Other coaches will walk around the room and help spot check your form on workouts, but won't provide much motivation. And at a couple of the workouts I've been to, the coaches have just stood and talked to each other (or people from the previous workout) for the full 45 minutes. To me, this last coaching style is unacceptable, and the one piece I wish I could change. Overall, I'm very happy with this gym and would recommend it to anyone looking to improve their physical health, especially those who have limited time to work out or don't know how/don't want to program their own workouts.

The only thing I think they're lacking is a sled push area and a spot to do tire flips or sledge hammer hits on a tire. Other than that it's absolutely fantastic. The best thing by far is the hours. Being able to go whenever I want I really awesome. It's rarely busy and by busy I mean 2-4 people including myself in the whole gym. I've maybe waited once for a piece of equipment but that was more by choice because I didn't want to be rude and be too close to somebody.
