It began when they sent me what turned out to be inaccurate information about my insurance benefits. The staff told me what my deductible was and how much I had spent toward it, except they got it wrong. They told me I'd owe thousands of dollars out of pocket when, in reality, I'd already hit my out-of-pocket maximum and shouldn't have owed anything if I'd purchased from them. It's unbelievable that a place specializing in hearing services could be so careless with basic insurance details. I chose them specifically because they were in-network with my insurance -- big mistake. On the day of my appointment, things somehow got worse. The specialist brought me into the hearing aid fitting room and was shockingly unprepared. She immediately said she needed to call my insurance to "log in," and once she had a representative on the phone, it became painfully clear she didn't know how to use my insurance's online portal -- the very system needed to order my hearing aid. Instead of handling this privately, she argued with the insurance rep right in front of me on speaker, saying things like "Could you make this harder?" It was uncomfortable and unprofessional, and honestly, it seemed like she had never used the portal before. In the end, I spent nearly an hour sitting there while the specialist fumbled with the insurance. Between the inaccurate benefit quote and the total lack of professionalism, I finally had enough -- I walked out. Save yourself the headache -- go literally anywhere else.

It was reassuring to know that we had a generous time period to try and then reject any aides that failed to prove comfortable and effective. The Potomac location proved to be convenient to our DC home and from the, office manager, Karen Moshel, to Dr. Kathy Grace, he was put at ease and became confident in the diagnosis that he indeed needed hearing aids. Dr. Grace was sensitive to our preference for devices that that were straight forward and easy to put on and recommended a breakthrough brand that did not require removal of the batteries. I'll never forget driving home after my husband was first given his hearing aids. I had the radio set at normal level and he complained that the sound was too high. It was wonderful for both of us to lower the volume to accommodate his new ability to hear. When my husband suddenly died within the warranty time period, I hesitated to call Auditory Services about a refund, but our children encouraged me to do it. My request was met with sympathy and an immediate promise of a full refund when I returned the device. I do believe that a company that was motivated more by profit than service would have made a persuasive case for not refunding our expenditure.
