I'm someone who values spending money on services, because I believe you tend to get what you pay for, but I spent over $400 on a balayage service that I now have to go somewhere else to have fixed. For future customer's sake, I hope this is a one off experience. Going in to my appointment I wasn't too picky with my service as long as I had added dimension to my hair, was in the range of browns, and it was relatively natural looking. I, naively, had no idea I could end up with such badly botched and mismatched hair from a place with such high reviews. I attempted to contact my stylist after the first recolor to address the issue of obvious miscoloring (see photo) and, after a week of waiting, did not receive a response. After sending an email to Austin Curls I was only offered to be seen/put in contact with the same stylist that messed my hair up twice and ignored my message. I understand Austin Curls operates as a collective, but I definitely didn't feel like I had support in resolving this issue outside of seeking help elsewhere. *In response to the reply from Austin Curls, I did not want my hair light and actually ended up with a color much lighter than I asked for. The problem is not from being disappointed with the lightness. My hair is discolored from the stylist darkening one part of my hair after messing up the balayage and not matching the rest of my hair. I have since seen a different stylist who fixed my coloring, breaking up the chunks and giving me the subtle dimension I wanted within 2 hours, no extra bleaching needed! What I wanted was easily achievable and this experience would've been a lot smoother if Austin Curls was capable of providing it.

It doesn't always matter that the library of photos is impeccable and makes you wish you could pull the trigger on vibrant colors that you definitely won't have the brain space to maintain... You cross your fingers, eyes, legs, and toes for a good experience, and wait for your appointment. I can confidently say, I was not disappointed. Stephanie of Bettie Bangs met me at the larger salon door, walked me back to her studio, and instantly made me feel welcome. We talked through my previous experiences, discussed future ideas I had, and she gave me a fabulous cut and style quickly and very reasonably priced. The salon itself was clean, cozy, and felt like a place full of friends - as the two stylists chatted between client conversations, interjecting stories and shared experiences. Her website showed some pretty incredible transformations so I put in my info for more information. I got a call back the next day to schedule my consultation. The fee for the consult rolls into whatever treatment you choose. I brought my husband with me, as I knew this was probably going to be a significant investment, and Shanna made us feel right at home. We talked together about my options, and then one of her clients agreed to talk to us about her experience as well. I felt totally comfortable with the option I picked, and Shanna was not pushy at all in upselling more expensive pieces. Everyone there is DILIGENT with wearing masks, wiping things down, and having hand sanitizer available, so no worries there. Once my piece was ready, I went in for the install. This is the first time I wore hair, and it was very overwhelming, but Shanna and Jeni are so encouraging, it really made it fun. I had some issues with that first piece (to be expected as it wasn't custom, but semi-custom), and Jeni touched base with me several times to make sure I was happy with it and to take notes on any changes that needed to be made the next install. Since the cap was a little too big for my head, I had some lifting at the hairline, but Shanna fit me in for a quick touch up at the very last minute as I was leaving town. She also did a quick trim to shorten it slightly and blend better with my own hair. The next time I went in was to remove the first hair piece and install the second. Shanna requires you buy two so that your piece is ready to go when you get there. No waiting to clean adhesive off the first and get it ready, which is nice and not something I would have thought about. It takes an hour or so for removal. This time Jeni had altered the cap so that it fit my head better. It's been a few weeks now, and I just love my new hair! This is an expensive process. Both buying the hair and the upkeep. But if you are finally ready to do something that works and makes you look and feel great immediately, it is totally worth it. And Shanna really goes out of her way to make it a fun, supportive atmosphere. She won't pressure you to get more than you need, and she'll be honest about what will work and what won't for you. I highly recommend!
