This is a very nice playground. No dogs are allowed, so there is no poop (left behind by some owners). There are sand-areas that have some toys left by some parents for all the kids to play. We like this little playground. There are trees for shade. read more

Nice park and pretty quiet diring the week. Has a nice pond and equipment for the kids to play on. It's a nice park kind of secluded.

The best thing about this playground is that it's gated all around. However, your child can slip their hand through the gate to turn the door knob from the outside to open as I saw a clever 3 year old do it after he watched me do it. There's 3 playgrounds next to each other for various aged children with sandboxes. Bring at least a shovel for your child to dump sand into the various sand tables. The playground is partly shaded in the morning with several benches located around the playground. There are no restrooms at the park, but you may be able to find one walking distance by visiting 2nd street where there are coffee shops, restaurants, various other shops and a market. Street parking does fill up by mid-morning so you may have to walk 2-3 small blocks to get the playground. read more

I like how this park is so close to second street, which is super convenient. I also like that there are basically 2-3 sections and an area designated for 2-5 year olds. That said, there is an area in each section that is pretty dangerous/slippery. By that, I mean, I was slipping and almost fell twice and I was wearing sneakers and have no trouble with balance (yoga teacher..) it's an uphill/downhill slope covered in sand and honestly would be better to have a step or two there. This part alone gives me pause when considering bringing my daughter back to because of the constant monitoring it requires. There are the baby swings, which is great and lots of slides, but the park is pretty darn dirty as well. (Duh, it's a park, right? But compared to other parks I've seen...) So, overall.... meh read more

Super fun and clean environment with a nice wide variety of toys. Definitely geared toward the younger crowd, maybe up to 7 or so. One of my favorite factors is how secure this playground is- very blocked off with only one entrance. It helps a parent loosen up. There are plenty of benches and sitting areas for parents to take a break. But your little one won't want to stop exploring. There are almost always a ton of nice kids around to play with. read more

Gated public park, pretty big and also crowded. Mostly toddlers at play. Clean for the most part and no dogs allowed inside.

Most of the time, when in the area, the park was or appeared to be family friendly until the recent horrific screwdriver stabbing caused by I believe a homeless man. I don't recall anything like this ever taking place in this park before. Now, the community is terrified. The man is now off the street and in police custody. We love Livingston Park. This is our neighborhood park. It's really for kids under like 8 though. Breezy and great for babies and toddlers and of course right next to Babettes. There is no restroom but you can use Babettes of you can make it there. Some people are smart to bring potties. Snacks recommended. Great way to spend a morning and mingle/vent about kids/learn from others with local parents. My favorite because it is clean and has swings. When they get older they probably won't want to come here though. Great little community park, most people are fairly nice. read more

Decent street parking, even on a busy Memorial Day. Great park, but technically a "playground." Lots of quality, modern climbing and play equipment, but no typical grassy play area to play ball. Manageable size. I like that that had the equipment divided between 2-5 year olds and 5-12 year olds. Nice and secure perimeter fence with a single access gate. Cool mix of responsible parent clientele. Only nit pick is that there's no bathroom, but there are several to choose from a block away on 2nd Street, which is a great place to take the family for lunch or dinner after the park! :) read more

GREAT place to bring your small children! I bring my nephew/nieces here often. I love that it's in a BEAUTIFUL and safe neighborhood. Parking is convenient as there is a public parking lot with two-hour parking meters located just west of the park, and the park is completely gated! There are always moms and dads here with their little ones and everyone is VERY friendly! We are so lucky to have such a beautiful and safe playground like this and a few others here in Long Beach. Many neighboring communities don't have safe places for kids to enjoy. read more

Great park, good for toddlers and babies. I frequent this park when I am in the Long Beach area and my son always has a blast. Sometimes there are toys that people leave behind that kids play with. This is really a greenbelt, with a little playground at one end. The dog parade grounds are held here. It's not an exciting park, or even much of a "park," I suppose, but it's a nice green place to sit just a bit away from the bustle and stores on Second St. The people in that neighborhood have a little park right there, I'm jealous. I happened to pass by today and was treated to one of my favorite sounds: the cacophony of urban parrots. Sure enough, up in the trees, two or three dozen green parrots happily climbed around on the branches and ate the trees' flowers. What a treat - exotic animals in the city. I laid down on the grass in the sun and just enjoyed it, then got up feeling refreshed (and slightly itchy). This would be a nice place to play frisbee (provided my avian friends are far enough away) or have a little picnic, heck, get some takeout from one of the restaurants down the block and enjoy the breeze. read more

Wow!! This park is amazing! I brought my 1.5 year old son here with a friend and her son, and it was the most laid back, easy going park experience ever. It's a little of an over statement to say it's a park, it's a kids playground, which in my opinion for little kids is even better. The area is a relatively small grassy and well shaded area and it's completely fenced and gated off, awesome for little ones who like to run and explore and even more awesome for pregnant moms who can't chase too fast. 3 play areas with suggested age ranges. Lots of sand boxes and play structures good for all different age groups. Picnic tables and benches for mom and/or dad to sit and supervise. There are lots of 'community' toys laying around in the various play areas, but lots of parents bring toys for the kids to play with and it's generally pretty laid back as far as sharing and community play. The atmosphere was very nice, warm and friendly, all the parents and nannys that were out and about were very nice and sociable. Things to consider: Parking is street parking, but I didn't have any trouble finding CLOSE parking on the street on a weekday, mid morning when the park was fairly crowded. Seems like street sweeping here is early, like 4am, maybe to avoid impacting the park, who knows. There are no restrooms in the park, your best bet is one of the businesses out on 2nd street but it's a block or so up so that may be a big consideration for potty training kiddos. They close for a couple hours on Wednesday mornings to do maintenance and check the safety of all the play equipment. read more

Having a husband who works three weekend double shifts, I find myself scrambling to find appropriate Saturday adventures. So tired of the mall. All praise for Del Amo Mall in Torrance, but with my son newly walking I find that the best use of our time outdoors allows him to practice his new skills. So, with that in mind, imagine the disappointment I felt when I found that my air-conditioned, new found parent-heaven (Eat. Play. Grow. in Long Beach) to be closed on weekends. How bummed I was this morning to have to cancel our great activity-driven play date and resolve to making alternative arrangements. Ugh, to find heaven's doors closed on a Saturday surely makes for a sad morning in deed. Many thanks to the husband, a man full of great, get-out-and-just-go ideas. Yes, Jo-Jo, our trip out to Livingston Park, the awesome outdoor Long Beach tot-lot, was a great hit. Livingston Park, located in the Belmont Shore section of Long Beach- just off 2nd Street, was super lively this morning, boasting multitudes of children in the full-swing of summer fun! So many dedicated parents out this morning, dutifully taking on the additional roles of official "Spotter" at the climbing apparatus and "Continuous Momentum Source" at the swings. And, of course, a big "Thank you" to all the parents who left your children's beloved dogs at home, resisting the temptation to take them out and tie them up under the slide. This tot-lot is about as wonderful as it gets for the 5 and under crowd. It features multiple areas that seemed to be sectioned off by skill level. Right when you walk in through the gate, there is a little sandy area for the youngest of eager park-goers, and as you venture further back into the 1-acre enclosed park area, there are more advanced apparatus' and play equipment. There is plenty of shade to be found under the numerous trees, as long as you can navigate through the bustle of abandoned strollers to get to your spot of the grass. There is plenty of suitable seating for snack-time and adult coffee-chat, in addition to the wonderful fencing located all around the perimeter to keep your child enclosed. read more

This is probably the best park in the Shores or the Heights for the little kids to play. If you have a kid under the age of 5, this is the park for you. Get a cupcake at Babette's, grab a cup of joe at Polly's and let the kids burn off their sugar high at this park. This park has a good range of equipment, designed in age groupings- one area is for very small kids, (i.e. the under-2 crowd), the middle for kids 2-5, and the last area is for the older kids. This is nice as a parent so you can let your kids play without having to hover too much because a seven year old is pushing your three year old out of the way. Oh, and the flock of wild-ish parrots are frequent visitors to the park's eucalyptus trees. This park was built with private donations- what a wonderful gift to the community. read more

I wish all parks were 5 stars. This one is quintessential Belmont Shore...clean, fun, friendly and beachy. Keep in mind this is strictly a kid park and more importantly for friendly parents. I always end up chatting with multiple friendly folks as the kids run crazily around the park. The park by my house, its like people are having a silent contest and I didn't get invited! The park has 3 levels for little, medium and big kids but kids are running through each level. Lots of stroller parking...did I just say that? Most importantly, lots of shade. Even if you don't live in the Shore or in LB its a great park to visit, then have lunch and a stroll on Second Street. Parking is street only but pretty easy right there considering Belmont Shore. read more

nice, quiet saturday morning is what we ended up having. generally for younger toddlers but there were a few older ones there, too. signs do say that it's more for 2-5 year olds. sorta small, but that's what people like about it, i assume. a slightly different set of playthings than your normal playgrounds made it a bit more fun for our daughter. if i lived in the neighborhood, i'd definitely be making short strolls here to burn a couple hours before her naptime. too bad i live 30 miles away... read more

This is my first park review to finally merit five stars. If you have tikes, this is THE park to take them to. There is plenty of equipment for them to work their sugar rush off. It can get quite crowded, so expect to park about a block or two away. Fortunately, the locals are very kind behind the wheel at Livingston and Park which is a definite plus. There are designated areas for kids under 2, 2-5 and 5-12. The park is very well-maintained and there is also a gate to keep the kids in. read more

Love this park! The stuff are newer and very well maintained. There's 3 age appropriate sections that are adjoined. I can easily keep an eye on both my kids from the vantage point of a bench. Also, it is fenced in with a child safety gate. And you're welcome to bring your kid friendly dog as long as you keep Fido leashed & clean-up after them. read more

Upon waiting on my beautiful girlfriend's pedicure (Post Coachella 3 day car camp "Ruffin it") I decided to walk around the block.. Found a great family park surrounded by a great neighborhood. It's definitely not your typical park, it's what a park would look like if a kid dreamed up a modern playground mashed up with the minds of tonka toys. I love coming here because I'm usually not the oldest dad in sight (I'm 42 and working on my first batch, not yet a silver fox working on my 2nd or 3rd). Kidding aside, there is a lot for the toddler and preschool set here, but the older kids seem a bit bored. One request: neighbors, as posted, canines are not welcome. I've seen people without kids use this as a place for their dogs to run around off-leash before children arrive. I've also seen families bring their dogs inside while kids are present. Can we just have this one dog-free zone? My wife has a Stasi complex and she reports scofflaws to the city. You've been warned. read more

Located right behind Super Mex! 3 designated areas of play for infants, toddler/preschool (2-5), and school age (5-12). This has been my favorite playground so far. The parents are hip, the children are having a great time, and it's right next to Belmont (yum yum!). Fun and easy. read more

This is my favorite park in the Belmont Shore area!! The park is enclosed by a fence, and there are 2 sections of play equipment...on one side of the park older children can play and on the other side, younger children (under 3) can play. There is a lot of open space so kids and run around, and there are plenty of benches and seating for parents. The park isn't shaded, but there are tall eucalyptus trees off to the side, which might provide a little shade if needed. The park is made up of sand, pavement, and playground foam flooring. The slides are not too daunting so they could be appropriate for younger or older children. The swings are only for small children, as the seats are the basket-like seats; there are also teeter totters, a small rock climbing wall, sand pit, and a large wheel older children can sit on and spin. Also, dogs on a leash are welcome in the park as well. The park closes at dark read more

This park is our favorite place to bring our toddler. It's gated and safe & has good equipment for the kids to play on. There's huge trees in the park, and the temperature always feels about 5-10 degrees cooler there because of the awesome breeze. There are a few areas of the park that kind of feel like "dead zones" however, and I wish they would do some different landscaping or add some more things for the kids. The street parking can get kind of crowded during prime times, but there is a metered parking lot at the back of the park if you're desperate. All and all, a fun and enjoyable place for kids and parents alike. read more
