I've been to Lizard Lounge a couple of times for Open Mic nights. This is a contest for those who perform their music/songs/etc. The interior is pretty warm, nice location: close to subway and bus stops. The menu is simply a bar food, nothing fancy. The best item in the menu is mini-burgers. On the other hand, cocktail and drinks card is rather long, many good choices. I'd recommend this place if you'd like to try something new.

I cannot believe I have not reviewed this place yet. It's okay.... It's true the drinks are expensive. The space can get stuffy. The room can be awkward and doesn't leave much for impromptu dancing. The poles block a lot of views. (In particular the current Sunday bartender looks like a kid lost in the mall, and is so obviously bad at what he does you can't even get mad but just feel sorry for him. I have too many examples to back this statement up to start listing now, but to start, I guess I'll find out next week if he figured out he shorted me $10!?!) All that being said, it's true about the lighting, very flattering. If you're particularly hard up, take you're first dates here - seriously, I think it'll work in everyone's favor! They also get TONS of great tunes!!! The cover charges go from reasonable to WTF!?! I'm not one to generally complain about cover charges because I realize they typically pay the band, so I've only come across "WTF!?!" prices maybe thrice over 3 years... The Sunday night Poetry Jam is a particular love of mine and why this place gets 4 stars in my eyes despite the above discrepancies! The Jeff Robinson Trio is astounding when it comes to backing the feature and open mic!!! They start with a slam which is typically pretty killer, but I really find the band helps sway even the most hesitant of listeners. Performance poetry is a completely different genre which I find sweetly emphasized at this venue with the Trio! Also props for the open mic on Monday nights, summer Tuesdays with Session Americana, and Club d'Elf (usually the 1st Thursday of every month)! This is without a doubt a venue to scope out!

Attended a show there in the summer and while the show was great, the venue is in horrendous shape and they don't care. First, they claim to be ADA compliant. That's pretty much a lie. They're wheelchair accessible, *IF* they remember to open the door that leads to the elevator, and ALSO to unlock the door that leads to the venue, HOWEVER, they very often forget one or both of those, but also, they do NOT have an accessible restroom!! Saloon, down the hall, allows use of their accessible restroom, *IF* they're open, but they have cut their hours, and were not open during the aforementioned show. No warning, just no ADA-compliant restroom. This is BAD. I have emailed the venue FOUR TIMES and have been completely ignored. So here we are. A place that used to be quirky but cool, is now just a little craphole that sometimes manages to book good talent. I would definitely advise my friends who produce shows to find elsewhere. Communication is important. So is accessibility. They do NOT care. I was going to be nice and give 2 stars, but you know what? With their willingness to refuse to talk about/include accessibility, they can take their one star and shove it.

Rude staff and SCAM. Read the other reviews BY MUSICIANS. I highly DO NOT RECOMMEND this place…read more Good beer is about all. They did not pay a group who had several out of town members and even one from out of the country and asked them to pay full price entry to the show before as well as for drinks. When it comes to the intimacy of a smaller room, nothing compares to the vibe of this great sounding + visually stunning venue, thanks to Dan Masi for the fantastic wall murals, and to the entire staff for always maintaining a welcoming + energetic atmosphere. The beer + wine selection is superb. Sure the hotel bars bring in some heavy hitters, but the Lilypad consistently features the absolute best of the phenomenal + varied artists we are blessed with in the amazing music scene of greater Boston, as well as talent from NYC + all over the country. The music programming is incredibly varied; some of the best jazz + chamber music performances I have ever enjoyed happened here. The ongoing Sunday-night Jazz Jam session is an awesome scene, always featuring great opening performances by the house-band, followed by convivial jazz jamming, open to players + listeners alike, not to be missed!
