We made a very large pick up order and it wasn't quite ready when I arrived but she packed most of it and waited for the back to finish the last two but I appreciate the freshness of the food. They used a box to help us transport the food which I preferred over a bag so that was nice! The food was a hit! We all loved it and pleasing 8 people is no easy feat. We asked for the sweet n sour sauce on the side and it was such a huge amount we all could add our preference and the shrimp was still crispy bc it wasn't in the sauce during transport. So no surprise the sweet and sour shrimp was delicious. The Sichuan chicken was loved by all. I liked the orange chicken but I had better recently elsewhere. LiZhou is a great new spot that took over for the extremely short lived Woodhouse BBQ. As a matter of fact, much of the decor from Woodhouse, including the standout string lights, has been retained. This particular location has seen a slew of various restaurants over the years, from Banyan Tree to HK Top to the aforementioned Woodhouse, and many more. There is a ton of foot traffic in the area from customers heading to Marina Foods, Daiso, Baby Café, China Tofu, Tapioca Express, Din Ding, Fong Kee, Mala Town, Pho Ga, etc. (many of which have transitioned numerous times over the years as well), so exposure shouldn't be an issue. When I first stepped into LiZhou, I felt like I was magically transported back to Malaysia! Everything here is "Halal," and the guests are pretty much half Chinese, half Muslim. The menu is somewhat similar to the now defunct Lotus Café (now Mala Town), which features a lot of lamb, beef, and chicken, but no pork. I really miss the lamb dishes at Lotus, but I'm elated that we now have a worthy replacement! So far, I have sampled the Sour and Spicy Lamb Hot Pot, Silken Tofu Fish Fillets, and Dried Scallop & Egg White Fried Rice, and each has been absolutely fabulous! I will definitely be back to try some other items. Service is quick and efficient, but not necessarily super friendly. They get the job done, and that's all that matters. The staff can speak Cantonese, Mandarin, and English. The interior, as alluded to earlier, was recently remodeled, so it is still relatively clean and modern. The restrooms, however, could use a little more frequent tidying up. The location is smack dab in the middle of a popular Chinese/Asian mall, so there is a plethora of dining options, but fortunately, being one of the few Halal Chinese restaurants in the area provides an advantage for LiZhou. Parking can be problematic during the peak hours, but there is usually availability if you stroll a bit further down, near the Burger King. As of this writing, LiZhou is still in the early stages, so business is relatively light, but hopefully the word gets out soon! read more

LiZhous was different. In short, LiZhou needs just a tad bit more flavor/spice to their dishes. The sesame chicken for example, usually slightly sweetened, was not here. The Mongolia beef was nice, with thinly cut pieces of beef, but missing something, perhaps a little more flavoring. Apparently it is their second location (the first being in Fremont). I decided to try it out. The staff were friendly and helpful as I was seated. I heard Mandarin, Cantonese and English spoken. I ordered a Lunch Special plus an item listed outside -- Pineapple Shrimp. While drinking Hot and Sour Soup, I looked over the renovated interior. Soon my Pineapple Shrimp was ready, followed closely by my Lunch Special. The food was delicious. The interior was spacious. The staff checked on me and the others eating in their establishment. There were only a few guests at dinner time today, I was like oopsie this restaurant may be terrible, luckily I was wrong! The Signature Youpo Ramen is the best. The fried pepper smells awesome. The ramen has a very chewy texture. The Mutton Offal Soup is rich and savory. The Fish with Sichuan Pickles Hot Pot is sour, but not spicy enough, actually a little bit too light. The Sichuan Spicy Chongqing Chicken is also not bad. The Sesame Pancakes are a little bit too dry and chewy. Overall the dishes are tasty. The portion of most dishes is generous, except the ramen. Kinda bummed. This used to be in another strip not too far from here in Fremont. I used to like going to that one back when my uncle was still in the area, as meals in house were always pretty good. Then came the pandemic of 2020, and even take-out efforts were difficult with them. I tried supporting them, but I never could get through. They eventually closed that location. Several years later I see this listing just a few miles away. In a much busier Asain dominated strip, and they even took over another Chinese spot that I used to know. So pretty much restaurant musical chairs. But I was excited to reacquaint myself with a name that I used to know. Ordered take-out one evening and what I received was not what I remembered from this place. Which gets me to believe there were some major changes in staff/ownership. The actual inside of the place was nice, they did a nice job at revamping the tones and ambiance accents. But I did find it strange that there were nobody eating in, just about 3-4 peeps waiting for take-out, which some may have been a delivery service. Seafood Chow Mein ($17/3*) Noodles were okay, darkened with a bit of sauce, but not much wok flavor, which I search for. Also not a lot of impressive seafood, actually only thing I really noticed were a few pieces of medium sized shrimps. For the price I was just expecting a tad more. Orange Chicken ($15/3*) I usually don't care for this dish, but I get it for others who seem to enjoy these made for American preps, where something is fried in batter then tossed in sweet and tangy sauce. I do like certain versions where the sauce is well balanced, and they toss in a handful of whole dried red chiles. This one was not of that kind. It did look like the part and I even liked how their rendition has pieces of actual orange slices tossed in with the sauce. But the flavor was very flat to me, like no pop. Even though I didn't care for this, the group did finish this first, so some can like it, so I'm going to keep this rating fair. Mushrooms with Tender Greens ($14/4*) Nice very al dente baby bok choy with that mustard-y bite. Nice whole shitake mushrooms make it nice and meaty. But lots of just an average tasting sauce with lots of flecks of uniform garlic which almost seemed like jarred processed garlic, which seemed weird to me, as good Chinese restaurants never use that stuff. Even though that threw me off, this was actually the best thing I received that night. Beef Chow Fun ($16/1*) I usually love this dish, but this was one of the worst versions I've ever had. First this is a dish that can really showcase if a cook/chef knows how to use a wok properly. If they do, then a chef can actually use minimal ingredients and still elevate this dish. Here there were zero wok hei, which I can let pass if the rest is decent. But the actual flat rice noodles which are supposed to be chewy and toothsome were so overcooked that it turned into paste into the mouth. So so gross. I still may go in and try their in house service to see if this was an off night, but I'm really skeptical after this out. They do have a captured market as they are a halal Chinese kitchen, and this area is looking for this kind of stuff. But $70+ for a take-out order where more dishes missed than hit, just left me pretty bummed, especially since it was once a place that I could be proud of. read more

I took my parents here to try the place out because we've had the Fremont location before and we've absolutely loved it. We had several dishes; Dry pot beef brisket- Excellent in flavor. Each piece of beef was super tender and piping hot. Perfect when eaten with white rice. There were plenty of chili peppers and chili oil that packed an absolute punch to the taste buds. Sweet and sour Chicken- Tastes exactly like sweet and sour pork, but the chicken was slightly more tender than pork. The sauce was more or less the same, sweet and tangy, cooked with bell peppers and onions. Dry Sauteed string beans - Delicious! I wish I was eating this right now. The beans were still crispy/crunchy after being cooked and the umami coming from the way that the beans were cooked were absolutely unmatched by any that I've had thus far. Yes, it was that good! Spicy level can be adjusted to your liking. We ordered our food and asked medium or not too spicy and that was exactly what we got! When we got our check I was surprised to see that tip suggestions starts with just 10%, followed with 15%, and 18%. Of course tips can be customized, too. My mom and I used to go here after her doctors appointments for lunch or dinner. After my mom passed, the place went under reconstruction. It wasn't Lizhou before, but that place was pretty good and I can say the same for Lizhou. We ordered the vegetable and tofu soup. So good. Soy sauce noodles. Good, a little dry, but you need to mix it with the sauce at the bottom of the plate to really get it saucy. Salted fried mushrooms. So good! I recommend getting a bowl of rice to eat it with. LiZhou City Restaurant took over the former HK Top location at the corner inside the El Mercado Shopping Center. Tried this place and honestly it wasn't too much of a satisfying visit. The food wasn't that flavorful and just didn't seem to appeal to us. We through the QR code on the table, and apparently that menu isn't even up to date. We ordered this one item, Salted Egg Yolk Tofu with Minced Pork, but there was no minced pork. We inquired, and they said that since it's a Halal restaurant, they don't serve pork...understandable, but then why was it listed on the menu? Moreover, why didn't they inform us once they received our order? They proceeded to make it without even bothering to tell us pork wouldn't be included. Anyhow, they took it off the bill and we replaced it with something else. The other items we ordered were Chicken Fried Rice, Beef Brisket Casserole, Braised Fried Tofu & Sichuan Style Spicy Chicken. The fried rice was lacking in taste and flavor, that's for sure. It needed some more flavor for it to be tasty. The beef brisket was pretty good, but the Sichuan style spicy chicken lacked that good spicy flavor, and usually it comes with peanuts, but here it did not. We didn't care for the braised fried tofu either. The customer service was okay. They were friendly enough, but not sure if we would consider coming back here after the experience we had. 3 stars because the food wasn't terrible, but it wasn't good either. read more
