Usually order to go; efficient and smooth transaction. Service is excellent; communicative staff members. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Very spacious and clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My favorites are the fish tacos and shrimp tacos. Flavorful, delicious and fulfilling. The sauce is incredible. Open and excited to try a different item on the menu, next time. Lovely experience via to go orders.

Food ok Service good [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance good[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]First thing I noticed was there was no AC inside or it wasn't being used. It was about the high 90s outside so inside it was cooking.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I asked the young lady a recommendation and she recommended the tacos, but I'm a sucker for wet burrito so that's what I order. Yup I was a sucker because that burrito was Meh. Way over priced. Charging four dollars for that sauce is criminal. At least the salsa was OK. The orange salsa is pretty hot. If I was in the area again, I would not come back.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]I visited Maya's on Saturday and it was surprisingly quiet.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior is beautifully decorated, and I really appreciated having a sit-down location instead of just the to-go spot in Oakland.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ordered the super burrito with steak (in a bowl), and it was pretty good. The flavor was solid, but I did ask for some hot sauce because it felt like it was missing a little something. I also tried the pineapple and watermelon drink, which was refreshing and really tasty. For my daughter, I ordered a chicken quesadilla, and she absolutely loved it. Overall, it was a great experience and I'd definitely come back!

Food: I appreciate finding a good Halal spot. The Birria tacos were okay 3/5- I have personally enjoyed better Birria tacos. The consome didn't taste as authentic as other places. For the service- we were checked on a few times, but no one offered to take our empty plates at any point until I asked. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space is cute and open.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I live quite far from this restaurant, but if I lived a little closer, I would try it again.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Cute place that will satisfy your cravings and your empty stomach. Generous servings.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service though, I am half hearted. They served the food pretty quickly, but I asked for hot water and it never came. I asked for the check, the server gave me a hand signal that I read as "hold on", waited about 30 mins and it never came too, so I decided to walk up front thinking maybe I needed to pay at the cashier- and voila! It is the cashier indeed, but why did the server not tell me??! Nonetheless, will still go back for their tasty food, just next time I know to walk directly at the cashier to pay.

We finished our 38 mile hike late and there were few food options open. This one was and it sounded interesting. I want to say it's Mexican with a middle eastern twist. Interesting for sure. Please come and create your own adventure.

I ordered to go and they were pretty fast. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is cute and definitely has a vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was really good too. Ordered the bean and cheese burrito for my kids and they devoured it. Super cheesy. Also got the steak enchiladas and the sauce was good. It comes with rice and beans and the whole meal was very filling. Also got the lady boss burrito, I didn't make any alterations since it was my first time trying this and it didn't disappoint. Very tasty and big. But I'd probably order it without the grilled onions next time. My only thing would be that is pretty expensive. I ordered 2 x enchiladas, 2x burritos (one bean and cheese, and one lady boss) and 2 drinks.. and it came out to almost $100!

Amazing food! Went around 7:30 on a Saturday night and we got seated right away. The hosts are so gracious and attentive and make you feel like you're at home. I got a super burrito with chicken which was so juicy and yummy. Get their habanero sauce on the side! It's super spice and adds a nice taste to the burrito.

Maya Halal Taqueria is a cute Mexican fusion restaurant that's open late and has bold flavors. Came here pretty late on a Sunday night and there was a steady flow of take out customers with a couple of dine in. The food took a while to come out but it's because they were making the tortillas to order and frying the taquitos fresh. The taquitos were pretty good but I think it could have used more meat since the outside tortilla was on the thicker side. For the tacos the handmade tortillas were awesome! The marinade and flavors of the tacos are not your usual Mexican spices. It definitely packs a punch with the kick. I think the tacos could have also used some more meat. Overall I think portion size to price could be improved on since it is on the expensive side but I do appreciate how late they're open. I would come back every now and then but won't add it to my go to's list.

I have seen this place in Oakland so I was excited to give this location in Union City a try. I was hesitant after seeing that there was no one inside on a Friday afternoon. I was slightly confused since it appeared to be a sit down restaurant and I always assumed it was a casual taqueria. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The inside is very nice and modern.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was friendly. The taste and quality is very good. We ordered the Lady Boss Burrito with steak and 4 tacos. I tried the fish taco, Birria taco, and steak taco. I liked the crispy cheese bottom on the taco. I really liked the salsas, especially the orange sauce which was very spicy. The prices were pretty fair. $17ish for burrito and $4.25 a taco. Overall I would recommend.

Tried the super burrito with steak, it was delicious full of flavor, will recommend to not add guac into it cause it looses the taste but other than that I think will definitely try it again

Hello Halal! Maya Halal Taqueria is your neighborhood taqueria serving halal meat in meals made to stuff you up! Located just blocks from the highway and conveniently near gas stations, grocery shops, coffee shops, and parks, this place has the foundations to draw in some crowds but due to the aging buildings of this mall and being overshadowed by the Union Landing mall down the street, doesn't seem to have caught the community by storm yet. With a shared lot with mostly grab and go shops, you'll almost always be able to get a spot nearby. Beautifully decorated with its purple hue, your first steps through the door will be illuminated and met with wall murals, decorative lights, and faux floral arrangements all bringing a fresh breath of life to your senses (the amazing ventilation in the room certainly helps too). As you find your seats in the dining room, you will no doubt notice the vibrantly colored cushioned chairs that will soon provide comfort during your meal. We were helped right away and were provided menus and waters to get us situated. The menu was quite extensive offering quite a variety of dishes including tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, fries, and set combo plates. We got a sampling of items for the table to share and it was good that we did, because the portions were larger than expected! Taquitos - comes with four bite sized crispy rolled tacos topped with fresh salsa and cotija cheese. These bites were so crispy yet flavorful with all the toppings and sour cream. Probably could eat the whole plate just by myself! Super quesadilla - huge crispy slices of cheesy quesadilla packed with your choice of meat served with a side of sour cream, guacamole, and pico de gallo. This was a favorite of the table and was really good as leftovers too. Boss lady burrito - hefty burrito packed with hour choice of meat, rice, beans, cheese and salsa. Comes wrapped in foil to retain the heat and served with a few pieces of chips and pico de gallo. Wet burrito - this monstrosity of a burrito is drenched in enchilada sauce and takes a fork and knife to eat. By far, one of the best wet burritos I have had due to its size, fillings and sauce. I would get this again! The choices of meat were great - the favorite of the table was the birria beef but they also have ground beef, steak, grilled chicken, shredded chicken, shrimp and fish (the latter typically costing a few dollars more). Most of the dishes also come with pico de gallo, so you'll get a nice fresh condiment with your meal. If you're looking to add a bit of a kick to your meal, ask for their hot sauce (hot or mild); it's not too spicy but does add an extra component to your bites. The prices for the entrees were higher than most places I've been for Mexican food, but given the big portions, quality of execution, and beautiful presentation, I can understand the premium tag. However, the price is certainly a deterrent for frequent visits but a meal out here every blue moon is reasonable to satisfy that craving. Service was phenomenal; our server, Oscar, did an amazing job making us feel welcomed and helped us thoroughly enjoy the meal. They were great about being proactive in their service like serving waters without prompts, providing extra plates knowing the kiddos were going to share, and being available to answer questions and close out the check. Overall, Maya Halal does a wonderful job showcasing its culture through its interior decor, food presentation, and flavors. The service is not what you'd expect in a mall shared with quick food/takeout establishments but the prices certainly is a shocker. Given the quality and quantity of food, it still does seem fair for an option to address those tummy grumbles for Mexican food while also sticking to a halal diet. If you're in the area, give Maya a try for it may very well be another up and coming gem of Union City!

The Chipotle Shrimp tacos are the best! I don't do pineapple in anything, but these tacos are the only exception. They continue to be my all time favorite shrimp tacos ever so far. They have so many vegetarian options and the quality is great. You can definitely taste it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is super cute and chill.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service has been mixed. I have had great service and I have also had poor service. Now, I only order for delivery because the bad service was worse than the great service I had. I don't want to risk it. Overall, the food is delicious and great but customer service can improve.

We knew immediately this was our vibe. We sat down and read through the menu. A lot of dishes I wasn't familiar with, so naturally I defaulted to what I knew -- quesadilla de camarón. My wife did the smart thing and asked for recommendations. Mauricio suggested three dishes and she chose the last one- I think it was because something about tequila . When it was my turn, I proudly placed my order. Without missing a beat, Mauricio looked at me and said, "Bro, you can get that anywhere -- you should try this." He began describing the dish, then pointed to his dad sitting patiently at a corner table. "That's his invention." No more words needed. I said sold. Our dishes arrived and we immediately moved them to the center of the table so we could share both. I had the seafood fajitas -- shrimp, fish, fajita vegetables, and the most tender, flavorful pulpo I've ever had. All the seafood was cooked perfectly: tender but not falling apart. But the octopus and the sauce were something special. Chef Jose came to check on us and I told him about the pulpo. His eyes lit up as he began describing his preparation process -- then he said, "You want to see?" He walked me right into his kitchen and showed me the octopus being prepared. That moment alone was worth the visit. By the time we returned to our table, the restaurant had started to fill up. We continued enjoying our food, including the handmade soft tortillas that came with my dish -- don't sleep on those. Chef Jose stopped by again, sharing more stories, more passion, more of himself. Before we even finished eating, we were already planning our next visit for happy hour and dinner with the family. This is a perfect example of what Will Guidara calls Unreasonable Hospitality -- unexpected, personalized, and genuinely human. Mauricio and Chef Jose aren't just running a restaurant. They're sharing something they love, and you feel it in every bite and every interaction. Thank you, Mauricio and Jose. We'll be back.

I really liked the homemade tortillas here; they were so soft and went well with the shrimp and fajitas. Prices are in the higher end but portions are also huge! I have only ever left 5-star reviews because I love supporting small businesses, but after tonight,…read morewe will no longer be supporting this spot. We have been loyal regulars here for a long time, coming at least once a week. Honestly, the main reason I kept coming back and always tipped well, even when the staff was sometimes just whatever, is because the guy who owns it is always so nice, friendly, and works incredibly hard. Unfortunately, his wife handled things tonight, and the service was absolutely horrible. We ordered a steak burrito, and let me tell you, the meat was completely inedible. It was just pure gristle in every single bite, to the point where we couldn't even chew it and only ate about a fourth of it. They also forgot to give us salsa with our chips. When we called to let them know about the meat, his wife started chopping up meat on her end, arguing with me, and insisting the food was perfectly fine and fresh. My wife, who is visibly 8 months pregnant, actually walked the burrito back into the restaurant just to show her the gristle. Because the lady said to bring it back show her. Instead of making it right or offering a simple switch for a chicken burrito like my wife had asked, she completely lacked empathy and flat-out said, "I can't remake your burrito." I called back to ask what could be done to fix this, and she started telling me to stop yelling at her. I wasn't yelling at all, my other baby was screaming in the background because my wife left the house to try and get the food fixed. She then hung up the phone on me. Apparently, she told my wife she even consulted her husband before refusing to fix it. It is so unfortunate that a business we supported weekly would treat regulars this way, but they have officially lost customers for life. The owner also said she was going to reply to me on here. Waiting for an explanation of how you turned away an 8 month pregnant lady?
