Incredible spot for a delicious lunch! I stopped in on a weekday for lunch with a friend and was delighted to see so many tables and a fully stocked buffet that smelled amazing. You first choose your size: either the medium, which will run you between $8-10, or the large size for $11.50-13.50. I got the medium stewed chicken with yellow rice. They filled it to the brim and it was $10 - you cannot beat that! It was absolutely delicious. I got a bottle of water too and sat in their comfortable dining room. Los Nuestros Dominican Restaurant in Albany has gone to bad serving food. The display is mis-managed and sloppy. The quality of the food has decreased in both flavor and appearance. Seems to be just thrown up there in the window and not appetite appealing as customers" we eat with our eyes first". Presentation is everything. I called back to complain to a manager on the phone but no one spoke English to hear my grievance. I noticed new server's at the front end that doesn't seem to know what they're doing. Top Notch Food on Central Avenue. Quality of food is totally Home made. Someone's Mama made that food, they just brought it to sell. Great quiet Ambience, as most people just pick up and go. If they want to correct one thing, that would be just hold on that salt a bit. The curries were tad bit on the salty side. Other than that, no issue at all. Wonderful treat. I've been craving Spanish food for a long time, and my friend recommended Lo Nuestro Dominican Restaurant in Albany, NY. When I looked up their address, Apple Maps stated that the restaurant was closed today (Sunday, August 18th, 2024). So, I searched for the next best option, and Yelp suggested a restaurant in Crossgates Mall, Albany. Listed currently as Latino's Cuisine on Yelp is actually Lo Nuestro's 2nd restaurant! Formerly known as Latino's cuisine, the owners of Lo Nuestro has expanded their family owned restaurants and now occupies this restaurant and space in Crossgates Mall as their 2nd restaurant. Crossgates is a huge mall, so I used the directory map to find the exact location of the restaurant. It was the same restaurant my friend recommended! Lo Nuestro's SECOND location is located upstairs in Crossgates Mall, next to Pandora Jewelry and in front of the "Going, Going, Gone" Dick's Sporting Goods clearance store. If you're trying to avoid the mall and a lot of walking, you can park as close as possible to Going, Going, Gone and then go upstairs. Lo Nuestro is on the right-hand side next to it. As soon as I walked in, the food alone made me want to try everything pollo. There was a line of about five other customers ahead of me, Spanish music blasting in the restaurant a few tables and booths for friends and family to dine in. A dessert case with a variety of desserts and all the food you order is behind the counter in steam table pans. I ordered a large stew chicken (which they didn't have much left of), and I see why! (It tastes really good and was exactly what I was looking for). I asked the pleasant and English-speaking young lady (Franchesca) if she could give me small portions of both types of their chicken so I could try a little of both after she apologized for the near empty pan of stew chicken, and she kindly gave me small portions of each in my large order. Both were so good! I also did the same with the tuna pasta salad and the potato salad. While I've had better-tasting potato salad, (needed more seasoning or salt and less mayonnaise) it's still edible and delicious. (At the time of this writing, I hadn't tried the tuna pasta salad yet.) Their passion fruit juice is a little on the too sweet side for me but still great tasting. Nothing a shot of lemon juice wouldn't fix. At my grown age and being Jamaican , I'm just now starting to appreciate why everyone eats and asks for plantains, and the sweet plantains here are actually good. Would I come back like the young lady working the counter encouraged? Absolutely. She mentioned they are going to fix their listing on Apple, Google, and Yelp because they own both restaurants located in Crossgates Mall and on Central Avenue in Albany. This review is for the Crossgates Mall location. I had a pleasant experience, and the food did what it needed to do. I ate both potato salad and the tuna Mac salad after editing and now I am back to give an update, I enjoyed BOTH salads and I wished I had more. I licked the salad container clean. At the beginning it was ok, and then I couldn't bring myself to spend my money there anymore. Long story short I found Lo Nuestro on 260 central, I tried it and the food was/is spectacular, favorably, and a lot of food for the price. Honestly, I know this might be much but I've been there everyday this week. Btw try the empanadas also they're the best and are huge for the cost! This is my go too for now on and by the way did I say I live in Schenectady? I make it my business to take that drive on the hway for this delicious food. Try it out! What did we have... pernil, and a huge portion at that, served with Rice and beans. Friday night always means codfish stew, literally the best i have ever had. Accompanied by a TON of the best fried tostones hands down. Not kidding. And yes, you can get mangu at dinner time so I did. ! I love those pickled onions and the huge plate of mash with fried eggs. And this is how you go from 5 stars to 3 stars...after reading positive reviews our visit was on 11/19/22 and we dined-in. We ordered the Cuban sandwich $13 and the pig feet stew $15 with a plantain appetizer $4. Everything including the service was fine. We asked for the bill and presented a coupon. The owner declined our "SaveAround Greater Albany" coupon. She told us that the coupon is not accepted because they never approved of its publishing. They have a variety of foods to choose from. I personally would try to get there 4 hours before closing otherwise the meats will be dry and hard to chew. Prices significantly went up making it not an affordable option. Service is usually great depending on who it is. One of the better selections of Dominican food in Albany, Lo Nuestro works hard to keep up with their volume of walk in customers. The guy at the front is super helpful and friendly! I can tell the food is made fresh daily. The pernil is tasty, skin crisp and crunchy and very flavorful. The rice is perfectly cooked, not oily or dry. What I came here for originally was the Dominican breakfast. Everything they put in was perfectly delicious, my tastes buds are watering for more. The mangu and red onions provide the perfect base for the salami, fried cheese and egg. Try one of everything on the menu- you won't regret it! We went to this restaurant on the recommendation of somebody who enjoys tasty food and is a good cook himself. He was raving about the stewed chicken and stewed pork, the rice and the empanadas. We decided we would try it so we ordered a couple of sandwiches. One was a roast pork (pernil) sandwich and the other was a Cuban sandwich. I am assuming that in the photo, the one on the right must be the roast pork sandwich because it has the lettuce and tomato on it, which the menu describes that the pernil sandwich has. We had already eaten 1/2 of each sandwich by the time I took this picture. I was ready to be very impressed and go into a nice food coma. Unfortunately that was not to be. For some reason both sandwiches tasted almost exactly the same, both sandwiches had somewhat dry pork, and the pork was bland in both sandwiches and in need of salt and seasoning in general. I feel like restaurants are afraid to salt their food. I don't want overly salty food I just want something that actually has some flavor and this barely did. The Cuban sandwich was surely unlike any Cuban I have ever had, it had no ham it had no mustard that I could taste and I could barely taste the cheese. I found a few very small slices of pickle in the sandwich that I think was the Cuban. Even if this version of a Cuban sandwich is not supposed to have ham or mustard, still the pork was dry and bland. On a positive side the sandwich was a pretty good size and had a nice crusty bread. We will be back to try an actual dish that comes with rice and I am hoping that the positive reviews I've seen this restaurant get on Yelp can be justified by that food next time. The restaurant makes amazing food but when you call during business hours they don't answer or they take a long time to answer. When I ordered food online for pick up the cancelled the order. When I tried to call again to place the order no answer. While the food is great it is centrally located in not a great neighborhood and the response or lack there of makes it difficult to want to order food from this establishment. And it being one of the rare places that makes Dominican food makes it the only place to order from. read more

I had a craving for Dominican food but I'm not from the area and had to rely on yelp to find this place. The food is official. I had the large plate with pernil, yellow rice, habichuelas and maduros. I choose the chinola for my beverage. My only complaint was the slow pace of the server (she was very sweet) but that could've been my hanger kicking in. When planning Easter dinner this week, we were unsure of what to make. Wanted pernil and rice, but my wife is pregnant and wanted less stress. We stopped in midweek and we're met with an amazing staff. Grabbed a to go order and was eagerly awaiting Saturday for our dinner. Great prices for such amazing food. Great portions for both catering and regular meals. Super appreciative of their kindness and professionalism during the whole catering process. Will make this an every year event. This restaurant is amazing! Their freshly cooked Dominican comfort food always hits the spot. I couldn't be more satisfied and happy after I've eaten some pork with white rice and beans, tostones and some passion fruit (parcha) juice. You should definitely check out this spot.
