First time coming to this salon in the mall and had a great experience. I came in on a Friday around 2pm and was able to get seated right away. (I recommend calling prior to see how busy they are, I called around 12) The lady that did my pedicure was very sweet and did a great job. And decided last minute to do a manicure since I was there lol. I only got a gel manicure so I can't speak on the quality of their other services but the lady that did my manicure did a great job too! Definitely will be coming back because it's nice and convenient for my husband to walk around with the baby while I get my nails done. :) don't let the bad reviews steer you away!! read more

I called ahead to ask if they did acrylic removal. They said yes so I went to the salon a few hours later. The lady who did my nails literally put a fake press on nail between my actual nail and my acrylic nails to pop the nails off. She ripped my nail beds in the process. I asked her if she could drill and soak it off and she told me they only did that with gel nails. I've gone to other salons where they've soaked off acrylic nails. My nails hurt and I could've saved myself money and popped them off myself if I knew she was gonna do that. Will never go back there. read more

They nicked two cuticles on each of her hands then proceeded to pour rubbing alcohol all over - making her yell out in pain. The polish was translucent- not even close to what she picked out. Bad miscommunication, Bad customer service They let their phone ring for long periods of time, disturbing customers. So don't expect an answered call. They will reuse the towel the dirt from your toes & fingers were wiped on. They'll even dip your feet back into the dirty water. I do love that they take their sweet time though. For someone to claim that they "are one of the first people to do microblading in the Bay Area," (she literally said these words during our first session) but Joanna sort of sucks, sorry to be upfront. Both in terms of customer service and quality. I mean, yeah her work is ok but when compared to other professionals in her field, she's not that great. And being the first doesn't automatically make you better. So I reached out to her after seeing one if her posts on IG for an opening that opened up. Her response time was slow literally like a day or two before the actual appointment was everything confirmed. Then from the get-go her demeanor was very condescending. She would "suggest" alternatives to what I wanted as if what I wanted was wrong and her ideas are always right. It's been 4 months since my first session and 3 months since my second session (touch up). The first session was done by Joanna and second session was done by Christy, which was weird because they both have a slightly different technique. Anyways, Joanna made mine very uneven and I understand that eyebrows aren't identical but you can make them look closely identical but mine are clearly not. One starts way closer towards my nose than the other. Also, they faded away 80% already and are supposed to last about 2 years with good care. I did everything I was told and don't even go out in the sub often for it to fade that much even with two sessions already done. Luckily, I have naturally thick eyebrows so it still looks somewhat full but definitely not as full as it was 2-3 months ago. I'm really bummed that I now have to wait until basically all of it fades away so I can get it redone by someone else because most people won't microblade over another person's work as their lines and techniques are different. I would avoid Joanna if you can. Her prices are much more affordable compared to others but that doesn't mean her quality is up to par. I recommend krysbrows on instagram who does a much better job and is way more experienced. read more

My review is on semi-permanent brows by Joanne. I had them done two years ago but have not chosen to go back for a touchup. I should have written a review when I had them done. My review will be based how long they lasted and it was not long at all. They faded so fast, less than a year. Looking at my brows I've realized she didn't shape them the same. Eve after looking at my old photos after they were done, I notice you can see a significant shape difference. I read that one person experienced a lot of pain during the time Joanne worked on her, and I did too. It hurtled so much the first time, it felt like there was no numbing cream at all. The free touchup was a little less painful but I bled so much each time. I really wish she gave a little care package with what to use and gave out those small samples or so. She didn't even write down the name of the ointment for me, but only told me verbally. Now my brows are reddish and have shrunken. They do not look like the same shape and I am in search of someone who can help me now. read more

Terrible nail experience. Came in on a saturday and left with what I thought was a decent nail experience but upon closer inspection, all of my nails are uneven and some are pointed in a slanted upward direction (I'm trying to take photos to show you what I mean). The color and design makes it look as if I purchased my nails from the local Walmart and glued them on myself--why was I charged 55 dollars for this work of art?? First off, when I sat down she didn't ask me what i wanted. I stated I wanted a full set of gel nails, with french tip. She began to work and didn't ask me about a shape or length, so naturally she cut my nails too short. It was too late for me to say anything because once it was shaped, I felt really awkward to ask her to go back and redo everything. It's totally my fault for not speaking up sooner, but it was obvious she thought she was doing a bad job too because she kept apologizing to me and saying that she was doing her best to make it look natural. My nail person, I did get her name but I don't want to say it, was sweet and was talking to me about school, etc. so I wish her luck in life--a big reason as to why I didn't speak up sooner. Cash and card accepted. Loa An's is located inside Sunvalley Mall across from the Red Robin entrance. This review is for semi-permanent eyebrows done by Christy, who was referred to me by Joanne. A free touch-up 4-6 weeks later comes with the initial semi-permanent tattoo session. I learned about Joanne from a coworker and originally tried to book an appointment with her but her next available appointment is March 2016! Since Joanne is unavailable she referred me to Christy, whom she trained. Christy did such an amazing job on my semi-permanent eyebrows that I'm very satisfied and glad I didn't have to wait until next year. I had to drive from San Jose to Concord but I think it's worth it. Christy did such a good job that my mom loved my eyebrows and got hers done by her as well. Christy is so nice and very skilled so she knows the right size and shape to suggest depending on your brow bone and face structure. She also talks to you before, during, and after the procedure so you know what to expect. For the start of the procedure Christy puts numbing cream on the eyebrows and has you wait for 20 min. She then draws the outline of the eyebrows and has you ok the general shape and width. It is recommended you go thinner than thicker and lighter than darker since there's no going back from thicker and darker. The first procedure takes about 1.5-2 hours and the touch-up takes about an hour. It's definitely recommended you keep the eyebrows dry and don't go out in the sun too much otherwise the tattoo fades faster. read more

I had an appointment with Joanne for a touch up yesterday, but this is my 2nd time doing microblading. My first time was 2 years ago and have been a loyal customer since then. :) Joanne does a great job, and she's friendly. The procedure at first was a little painful for me but it's bearable. But once she puts the numbing cream and has absorbed in your skin, you don't feel anything. I'm happy with the result and would definitely go back next year or two. I got my eyebrows tattooed, yes, TATTOOED! I have done this before 5 years ago and it was a terrible experience. It was ugly, faded to a RED color and for the last 5 years, I've had to draw in my eyebrows everyday. I almost wished I never did it in the first place and drawing in your eyebrows daily is a pain in the ass. I know Joanne kind of personally and know she's very passionate about her craft and puts all her effort into what she does so when I heard she started eyebrow emboridery, which is semi-perm tattooing (lasting about 2 yrs), I thought I'd give it another try. What the hell, if it turned out bad, I could continue to just draw my eyebrows, but I was confident she'd do well I am THRILLED with the results! (see pix) Joanne was so patient with me and insisted she wouldn't start until I was 100% ok with the look of the eyebrows she drew first. A process that normally takes her 1-2 hours, took her 3 hours to do me because I was so nervous and picky, but again, she said it was my face so she totally understood and didn't at all do anything that made me think she was becoming impatient with me. The procedure didn't hurt, she numbed me first. If anything, a small sting here and there, but totally barable. Her instruments were also brand new; she has to use a new one for every client. I highly recommend Joanne's work; see the pix for yourself!! :) Highly recommend! (Updated recent, one year later, review for eyebrow embroidery by Joanne.) I'm a fan of Joanne's work. She creates beautiful brows. However, not so much a fan of the longevity of this eyebrow embroidery tattoo. Within just a few months, and my tattoo had faded almost completely. For the $400 price tag, I don't think I'd do it again, but for going to get it done, and choosing somebody I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Joanne as the person to do it with. She is absolutely meticulous, and a sweetheart. She took a lot of time to make sure that my brows were symmetrical, and as I envisioned them to be (fuller looking, but natural, not super arched). It has been exactly a year later since getting my brows embroidered, and I'm back to filling in my brows with brow makeup. (FYI, youtubeing how to do your brows... I highly recommend Anastatia's Dip Brow makeup and its just $18 and lasts mooonths.) I understand that we want to shave time off our mornings, by not drawing in our brows anymore, but you still will need to in less than a year. After about 4-6 months, the tattoo fades so much. If it lasted at least 2 years, or a year and a half, maaaaybe I'd consider doing it again. read more

If you're thinking about getting eyebrow hair strokes, Joanne is incredible! I was lightweight nervous it might look fake, but the eyebrow strokes look so natural and real!!! I absolutely LOVE them!! The procedure itself was relatively quick. Maybe 30 min total, but we talked about how I wanted them and she sketched out the look first. She was so patient and really took her time with me. At first I thought it looked a bit thick, but she assured me it'd look much more natural after the procedure. I trusted her judgement and OMG... Best investment I've ever made!! I waited a whole year to have the courage to try eyebrow embroidery and I'm so happy I finally did! Christy is so talented and amazing. She did fabulous work on my brows. I no longer have to draw them in everyday. The process was quick and easy, Christy explained everything as we went. She drew my brows to first match the shape I liked and then matched the color. The actual tattooing wasn't too long. I think I listened to maybe 7 songs on my phone(which helped distract me from the pain) and before I knew it, it was done and I had beautiful brows. I love Timmy! He gives the best pedicures. I've been coming here from Vallejo since they opened several years back! Yes, I drive & pay toll. The place is clean as a whistle, they have new equipment and they provide full and friendly service. So far I've had my brows waxed, a facial, individual eyelashes, a spray tan and manicure & pedicure. I know a couple of youngsters who get their nether regions waxed (it's called a brazillian) and say they do a great job. I like Timmy because he pays attention and doesn't run off at the mouth while attacking my tender tootsies with those torture devices. Evil though they are, they are necessary. I only wear sandals, so I must have cute manicured tootsies at all times. When you get a pedicure, they seriously massage your feet, ankles and legs. Oh yummy, yummy, yummy! read more

I'm sad. I came in tonight for s full pink & white set and pedi for my baby shower, they said I could come in 15 minutes when I told them how far I was. Waited an extra 3o only to get told no one could do my pedi and to hurry up when the chair opened up. I told him I can only move so fast since I'm pregnant & he said nobody pushed you lol The nail tech told me she was going to do ombre pink and white insisting it's better. While I'm doing my nails the Ronan next to me kept saying there is bumps in her gel, her tech said it's glitter but her color had no glitter Flash forward, a group of 3 get told they can wait 30 minutes for pedicures. I love coming here. I try and always let Danny do my pedi's because he is fantastic for me. He doesn't try and get me to do a spa pedi and he gives me the perfect amount of pressure. I wish I could take him home with me haha. They're very attentive and he's a sweetheart. I only ever go with Bee D. but we've tried a few different salons and this is by far the best around especially for the price. Men, don't be afraid to come in here. There's usually a movie playing on the plasma screen and if you're brave get comfy with us and get your tootsie's pampered too. Why not? You deserve it! They take walk-in's but if you want Timmy (like Bee does) then you need to call and make an appointment. Even over the phone you can usually get an appointment within 15-30 minutes. read more

This review is for Joanne - If you were like me, in high school it was "cool" to have thin eyebrows. I mean thin to the point where you can count the hairs. All the plucking & waxing did a toll on my eyebrows & they just wouldn't grow out. I found Joanne's IG page through another person I was following. I got really curious & did more research. Then finally I made the decision to have them done. Joanne did an amazing job. She took the time to ensure my eyebrows where as symmetrical as possible. She also asked me what I wanted. 1. Service was mediocre staff was nice at first. There was another customer before me who needed an itemized receipt of what she was being charged for. I don't think they were too fond of that their mood kinda changed after. I asked the guy if my nails were dry and he replied with you can leave just be careful. Ahh okay. 2. Pedicure - I wanted the works but I was not asked so received a basic pedicure. Also, the nail tech didn't do to much cuticle cutting or pushing. (I know your technically not supposed to have that done) but every nail salon I've gone to does a pretty good job of it. I didn't say anything but the lady next to me was obviously thinking the same thing as she asked about her own pedicure. 3. I tried a different nail shape for the first time, I like it. As a guy, I think this place is nice for getting a good pedicure without the hassle of having to make a pre-appointment, while still remaining somewhat inconspicuous. The Pedicure (Basic): I just do the basic pedi. That includes: nails clipped/cleaned, cuticles cleaned/pushed back, foot/calf massage (this can get ticklish) and nails polished or buffed. Both times I've been here, it's nearly empty. I've just walked in and they are already starting my pedicure within 10 minutes. The staff seems professional, prompt and courteous. When asked if you want a polish coat or buff on the nails (I recommend simply getting a buff). Your nails will look super clean (without being feminine) and the shine lasts for awhile. Bottom line: I can't speak to the other services offered here but I would recommend this place for a good, fast pedicure (especially for the guys). read more

I don't know how anyone could have left a bad review for Joanne Hinh. It boggles my mind. Not only is her work superior to any artist I've come across in California, New York, Seoul Korea, and Tokyo Japan, but she is one of the nicest and kindest human beings on earth. I've been working with her over the past 3 years and she is the real deal. She is a perfectionist and has fixed work I got done in Korea at a microblading salon where A-list Korean celebrities go. (My eyebrows were well-done at the time but did not match the symmetry, shape, and style that Joanne's magical hands and eyes can perform.) There is no one I trust more with my eyebrows than Joanne, and whether I'm living in SF, LA or NY, I will fly to go see her even though my friends think I'm insane because she is that good and worth it. First off, it's not closed on Sundays.... Now to my review. I went in here thinking it looked like a real upscale place then I got regular old strip mall service. They don't even use dividers when painting your toes, just paper towels strategically placed. That wasn't that bad, but it's everything after that let me down. I got my eyebrows done and as you can see from the picture, I guess I'm a dude in the military now? There is nothing feminine about this shape :( And when I got the car, I looked at my toes and saw what looked like ash on my toe. Lots of nail places close at 6pm on Saturday but Loa An's closes at 9pm, due to their location being at the mall. They have a sign-in sheet you sign in at when you walk in. They seemed busy when my cousin & I walked in but they gave us an estimated wait time of 5 mins (which seemed highly unlikely) but I guess they gave us false hope because 30 mins later.... we were finally seated to start our nails. In that 30 mins I observed a couple things. People with pedicures get helped first for some reason (maybe more money is made, ?), they have several rooms that look dedicated to waxing, they have a TV that wasn't on. The only guy there (didn't catch his name) was the one that worked on my fill. He was super friendly but he seemed to be running the place because he was constantly speaking to the other workers in Vietnamese & answering his cell phone in the midst of working on my nails. For a fill, I was charged 35 dollars. Sorta highway robbery if you ask me, This place is in Concord so I don't really know if I will be back,. *shrugs* read more
