This is truly a classic lobby bar. Has become my favorite out of all the hotel lobby bars I've ever visited. We stopped in every night for a drinks before going back to our room. The margaritas were some of the best I've had. The food was also very good. The bartenders were friendly and engaging. Both were great for recommendations on where to go during our stay. It has a large bar with a lot of tables. No music blaring so conversation is easy. We were there Sunday through Tuesday and it was busy. I imagine the weekends are very busy. read more

Loved the experience here.. the bartenders at the lobby bar were great.. i rating four stars because there is not a lot of choices that are sans meat. We ordered the cheese plate without meat.. Crackers were a fun touch, could have had a bit less salt. They had live music.. very elegant place to have a cocktail. read more

I attended a conference/luncheon at the hotel and arrived early to look around this beautiful place. I found a lovely bar and had brought my laptop so I decided to have a glass of wine and get some work done. I was shocked when I got my bill for $18 for one glass of wine. That is absolutely beyond exorbitant. As a local I know there are plenty of other 5 star hotels in the area that have much more realistic prices and do validate your parking if you dine with them (Vinoy/Sandpearl). Great area to unwind after the St. Pete beach sunset and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere in here. Drinks aren't cheap at the bar, but we also brought down our own drinks, from our room, and sat closer to the lobby area on our own. There was a very good mix of people at the bar and at tables and on our first night Saturday, there was live music in the bustling lobby. The seats are very comfortable and decor is interesting to look at. Definitely take some time to visit the lobby bar if you stay here. One of the best lobby bars I've seen and fantastic service. read more

This has serious potential... This was my first visit to The Don since their renovations and I was thrilled to see it. I like it. For the most part. I think the mid century design sacrificed some of the beachy charm for trendy design but I wasn't surprised to see it. I also love that they are bringing in live vocalists for entertainment. They were definitely in the process of training during my visit. And while I can understand, I think expectation management would have given guests like myself a better experience. We waited wayyyyy too long for any service. And after finally getting a chance to place an order the wine I selected was out of stock. We enjoyed a glass of the Don Cesar sparkling rose instead. It was really nice! Maybe even a blessing that they were out of the Oregon wine I initially ordered? My best advise for locals would be to keep waiting it out before visiting. Let them work out some kinks first. Also it can never be noted enough, valet is EXPENSIVE ($35+) and they do not offer fee waiver if you dine in any outlets. So locals might want to stick to street parking. read more

One of my favorite places in all of Pinellas county! This place is so special. Grab a bite to eat at one for the restaurants in the Don or along st Pete beach and park on the street (outside of the parking lot). The parking lot at the Don is expensive! Or if you are staying on St Pete Beach use the Free Beach ride. Come around 8pm when the live music starts (it ends around 11). Only order a couple drinks - they are pricey! Enjoy the wonderful music and beautiful decor! Nothing beats how exquisite the hotel is and the music is always 10/10. read more

Chances are good if you are staying at the Don you'll have a drink in the lobby bar. However, even if you are not a guest of the hotel it's a nice excuse to get a peek inside this grand hotel. On most nights there will be live piano music and on special occasions there is even a band. It's been a regular tradition of our to start New Year's Eve with a drink here as we coordinate with friends where we will be heading next. But even if it's not a holiday a drink at the bar is a special occasion to bask in the glow of this beautiful icon on St. Pete Beach. PS. There was a bartender with a ATTITUTE We came in from work looking to unwind, I played the piano (years of training) I think he called somebody about my playing their rackity old piano. The manager was not helpful when I asked him if I could simply leave something behind the desk while I was in the bar with my co-workers. A bunch of trashy red necks were loud, talking cackling, screaching and wow the bartender guy I think his name is "Sid" or or sommething but totally rude to us, not friendly seemed annoyed we were pleasant. They seem to cater to the "locals" low brow crowd and yes some nice travelers but if you are out for a happy time and dont want a bartender with attitude. When I go somewhere and Tip I think its only reasonable I be treated nicely...we felt like we were being watched or from another planet. Who knows....maybe my type are just not welcome with their environment. read more

The lobby bar is the best you will get at this establishment! Everyone is so friendly and accommodating! I had my wedding there last week. Ladies please look somewhere else for your wedding, this magisterial and historical hotel has gone very south in the past 7 months. I was yelled at by my "wedding planner" like a a small child after they couldn't find my room or bridal suite. They seem like they have it together. Every time something goes wrong they give you a champagne comp! Not what you want for the day you want to remember! Please look elsewhere for your big day! read more

This is a very pretty lobby bar. We almost missed it while we were here as it was raining cats and dogs so we scooted in through the side door of the hotel to make it to Sunsets tequila bar (see other review) On the way out I heard spanish music and headed up the winding stairwell to find a beautifully decorated lobby ( it was christmas) and a spanish guitar trio playing some lovely music. The place was packed! Had a drink at the bar, only one as we had been imbiding at Sunset's, but the uber busy bartender was right on the order and seemed to be keeping everyone happy at the bar. We'd love to return as it was quite pretty and felt very relaxing. Only thing I didn't like was the lack of dress code. Flip flops are not proper public wear , even in Florida! read more

Really was looking forward to having a great night cap on a Monday night , where it's not busy but unfortunately our bartender Cari was too busy chatting up four guys sitting in front of the bar and checked in on us one time in one hour. Such a prestigious establishment but it's the staff that really makes the difference. In our case the difference was less than desirable to say the least. Skip the pool and bar area if you expect to be waited on in a prompt manner. Slowest lack if service on the beach. Then the Sunday DJ plays crap music. Try beach music dude. I went into this place with my family on 4/6. The bartenders continue to ask everytime we ordered what our room number was and my response was "we are going to pay for this instead of charging it to the room, but 243". When it was time for the bill, they dropped and did not come back, the total was around $180. We left cash plus a hefty tip and left. The next day I went to check out and noticed a charge for $224 on the bill and immediately told the guy, Leo who claimed he was the acting supervisor, that this was incorrect. He told me I was wrong and needed to provide a receipt to even discuss. We needed to catch a flight, so when we got to the airport, I called and asked to speak to the the Hotel Manager and was told there was not one onsite, but one would call me back at noon. At 2:00 no one called, so I called again. I asked the lady to review the security footage of everything I'm telling her and after an investigation I would like a call back. Thats when I was told it was "cash free" hotel and these employees are used to getting 100% tips and wouldn't have seen anything out of character about this incident. Seriously?!? read more

I probably wouldn't have ever came to the Lobby Bar if it weren't for the Busted Blues band that was playing that night. (Discovered them at the big Yelptucky Derby and wanted to hear more!) Don Cesar is a very upscale luxury hotel, so of course their lobby bar has to match, and it does. Great choice for music. Our server was very friendly and helpful when we asked for dessert choices. Upscale means up prices, but you should expect such when coming to a place like this. Nice way to just chill and vibe out to the live music. read more
