This place has a unique whiskey ticker that scrolls current whiskey prices based on current customer orders. I ordered the espresso martini which the decryption said was a secret recipe. It was ok, but a bit watered down. I would not recommend it. My husband's old fashioned was good. Though, sadly they ran out of the boozy cherries when we were there. read more

Is it a dive or is it it a cocktail bar? At whiskey, it's both. This bar secretly holds some of the best bartenders on central. If they're not serving here, they're here as customers. Whiskey has every crowd imaginable. There's a ton of local usuals, 30-something's, an older crowd, students on the weekends, I've even seen police officers hang out here. Almost never dead past 8pm, and hard to find a seat on the weekends. The space it self has a divey feel to it, but with clean bathrooms and a dash of character. The liquor selection on the other hand is far from a dive bar. The bartenders here get to request liquors and ingredients so they all have their favorite cocktails to make or something they make a little bit differently. The staff are also friendly and chat with guests. One of my favorite cocktails here is a French 75 made with their empress butterfly pea flower gin, which is bright purple but after adding the lemon and champagne turns a beautiful pink color. This is a great bar for a casual end to a date, girls night, or just a local drink. Very low key but somehow known by everyone. read more

For 7 years I've come to this place. Had the best whiskey sours I've ever had until today! It was awful. I wanted it remade or just something else. The bartender that made my drink left the bar to go sit and have a conversation with someone else. The man who came to assist really didn't assist he left and went across the bar. He eventually tells what I can only assume was a manager that I then wanted a refund. They have a private conversation and that other man never came to greet or say anything! Just a very poor overall experience. I was told he as the first guy points to another will cancel my payment. Ultimately just leaves a nasty taste that customer service this bad still exists! I will never be a patron again. It's really unfortunate. It's Pride and I'm left feeling off to the side! Oh well! Yall need to do better! You never know who is visiting and watching. Mike is the best bar tender. He makes the best old fashions in st. Pete. I recommend going on Tuesday nights for $5 smokey old fashions and discounts on charcuterie. Only paid street parking available, be prepared to circle the surrounding blocks a few times before snagging a spot even on a weeknight. Lots of bar seating and high top tables inside, there was patio seating as well with darts to play. We started off with some craft cocktails and the chef choice charcuterie board. It had plenty of fruit, meats, cheese and 2 jams to accompany with the bread. Our absolute favorite was the pulled pork belly bbq sliders. They had a pinch of spice to them and they were so tender and juicy. Sometimes pork belly can be pretty fatty but these were very meaty. The bartender made us a special cocktail Off menu complete with a fire show-that was pretty cool. Lot of locals and very plain / minimal environment. It is a little expensive but in the area there are a couple of other bars on this street and this is the only one I would have a drink at. read more

We visited expecting a true whiskey lovers experience, and it could be, it really could. The service was adequate and their prices were average which is fine by me. We were looking at all the whiskey selections and there are a lot, but some bottles are hidden behind others, making it difficult to pick the rare ones out. If you are going to offer liquor lockers for patrons to rent at a premium price, you had better step it up with premium food and service. The Whiskey Exchange fails to deliver from several fronts with their terrible service and mediocre food. On the day that we visited, the place was not full. We were basically ignored until a friend of mine (who rents a liquor locker) waved over one of the five people who were staffed behind the bar. This continued throughout our stay with the staff basically ignoring everyone but each other or their phones. The drinks were meh. The food was MEDIOCRE. I ordered the beef tartare and I don't even know what was handed to me. Beef tartare is supposed to be prepared RARE which usually means the meat is RED. The dish I received was GRAY and GROSS. The Deviled Eggs were bland and flavorless. This whiskey bar on the block is unspectacular and disappointing. Stay away. read more

I was very excited about trying this bar as I thought it would be the next best place to get whiskey and cocktails after room901 closed. I was so disappointed. I started my night at urban still house drinking quality whiskey when I thought this would be a natural progression. Instead I got a major migraine from the cheap quality alcohol, watered down, and overly sugary drinks. When I asked for another drink as I knew I was not going to drink the one made for me, I was met with a rude resistance by the bartender who acted facetious and told me any drink would have a sweetness to it. Paying over $15 a drink I didn't think it was that unreasonable to ask for a do-over. This is a bar better suited for undergrads who are just looking to go out and have a good time. It is not a high class whiskey bar like was advertised when it first opened. Overall WE is not a place I would go again, but I do think it has its place as long as you're not too picky about your drinks (and maybe younger than 25 with no risk of a killer hangover!) read more

Ok, so let me start with the drinks. They're great! The mixologists know their stuff! I didn't see what I wanted on the menu after my first cocktail (whiskey cocktail but no citrus in it) so I asked the server to tell the mixologists to surprise me - no citrus and just slightly sweet. Whatever she came back with was spot on! I also had their old fashioned and it was just as good! You can def smell the smoke in the glass and it was the perfect balance of smooth with just the slightest sweetness to it . Kudos! They have a good selection of cocktails, beer and shareable bites. I didn't try any of the food but others that did said it was good. Now where I get confused and completely thrown off is the vibe. I went on a Saturday. There was super loud dance music playing, TVs with football games showing, neon sign on the wall for the usual insta worthy shots, girls dancing in the little open area towards the back. In my opinion- it was too much. The atmosphere reads more on the classy side: from the tufted leather booth seating along the walls, to the map decor and the nice bar with leather (?) and nail head trimmed barstools. But then you have the techno/dance music blasting. And then you have a crowd dressed in sports gear cheering their teams on. You have some patrons in flip flops and shorts and then some in heels. I didn't know what was going on or what to make of it. Will I be back? Heck yes... on a weekday where I can sit at the bar and have a conversation with the bartenders without having to yell and ask them to repeat themselves 4 times. No one seemed interested in serving or refilling drinks unless you flagged them down (and it was not that busy either). We saw them standing around idly when we and other customers had empty drinks. When I did ask to try a wine and didn't like it, the bartender acted like I was bothering him. I asked about Malbec he said they only have one and when I asked what kind, he replied with an attitude saying "I don't know but I'm sure you can find it on the menu" The bartenders only seemed to be proactive about serving people they know and seemed more interested in each other than the guests of the bar. This place has a fun atmosphere and good drinks. If you like loud music and to dance the bar has a DJ around 10pm until close. I would not recommend the food or the service when ordering food. It was very hard to get waited on. We got the chef charcuterie board and the chef basically gave us all the meat and cheese he was trying to get rid of. The Whiskey bars popping up downtown has added a new niche to the DTSP area. I recently visited one particular one that made for a wonderful experience . The Whiskey Exchange on Central Ave. is a play on the "Stock Exchange " with ticker tape and all. They have a wide variety of whiskey drinks to please any palate. I tried an Old Fashion where the ice is a piece of frozen watermelon sprinkled with gold for an added touch. Now I'm not a whiskey drinker but this drink may make me one. On top of that, their charcuterie boards and tapas are tasty. I particularly love a goat spread that is music to your mouth. Try it out ! It's a must when visiting DTSP. read more

I used to like this place even though the drinks are a little overpriced and service is not good but now I won't be back. We came in and ordered drinks. Everyone got drinks after we had to wait for a while without being greeted even though to guy was right by us. But my mom didn't get hers and he was just talking while not paying attention and making hers. Then when we were ready to close out he gave my credit card to someone else!!!! Why would you give my card to another person in my party when I'm there?!? Totally unacceptable! I didn't have my card for a few days because that person left. Then another time I was there a very drunk girl fell and hit her head! Hard! And security saw it and just let her back in when she couldn't even walk. Ans they were still serving her!
