Great find in this town with dozens of places to eat. I called ahead to see if there was outdoor seating and spoke to the Manager Leslie. She was very cordial and welcomed the dogs to join us. There was a bowl of water outside for them when we arrived. Leslie came out to greet the dogs too. I had the haddock filet sandwich which was grilled to perfection. It was served with fresh lettuce greens tomato on a pretzel bun which was a flavorful touch. Delicious. Fried pickles on top a bit spicy for me but very good. They don't have it every day, though, so make sure before you stop in if that's what you're looking for (as most people are). This restaurant is great for good, quality food without much hassle. I like that it's simple, with paper and plastic utensils- kind of cafeteria style. While visiting L L Bean we had lunch in this establishment. We ate here because of the excellent reviews on yelp. I ordered the haddock and chips and was very disappointed. Tiny pieces of haddock with very greasy, limp fries left a lot to be desired. The second floor offers full service where the downstairs floor is self-service. We would have preferred dining on the second floor however the air conditioning wasn't working as it should have been. We opted to eat on the main floor which was several degrees cooler and much more comfortable though not as cool as it should've been. Which is fine, however the food was just disappointing. This is a busy Freeport eatery. The food wasn't that bad but the prices were unfavorable. I guess I should have expectedd that from a tourist town. I was disappointed when I ordered the $12 Meditterranean salad (which was pretty good BTW) with lobster add on. Now, I know it was my fault because I disn't check to see what the market price was, but $14 to add lobster to a salad. So that made it a $26 salad. Read that the lobster cooker accepts pets on their outdoor patio, so since our pup was with us and we were dying for some seafood it was a no-brainer. Well, we ordered chicken tenders and fries for the kids The tender were pretty good but the fries were raw, limp, greasy, cold and inedible. The chowder was like something you'd use to make a pinata with. I was dying for some fried clams, ordered them, I knew they tasted old and perhaps warmed over but was starving and ate them anyway. Then came the slow gurgle in my gut through the afternoon, lo and behold, I almost died 8 hours later. You see, we were camping, and suffice to say I never made the throne. These rancid little devils wanted out, I was lucky to make the wood-line before erupting in what could only be compared to an explosion at the hoover dam. I did not realize the ridiculous price I paid was for short term lease. Anyway, the food is overpriced and gross, Lobster Cooker is a tourist trap of the lowest standards. We stumbled upon this place while driving around when visiting Portland this week (from Ohio). If we had been staying in Freeport, this would've been our go-to place. My husband and I enjoyed not only the fresh, excellent food/seafood, but the service and atmosphere would great, too. The lobster & the crab roll were both served fresh in a soft, crusty mini bread loaf split open w/the meat and fresh greens tucked inside. Drawn butter was served but we could've chosen mayo. Choice of upstairs service or downstairs seat yourself style. Sports bar is upstairs but nice b/c it's not loud and the TVs have CC but no sound - best of both worlds for us! Side salad was fresh w/made dressings and NO iceberg lettuce! Meal came w/cole slaw and house made fries (from local potatoes). We subbed the salad. Some of the best whole-belly clams we've ever had that weren't on a dock: fresh out of a hot fryer with fresh oil, tender, and clamazing. I ordered a clam chowder as their prices were incredibly overpriced on everything else they had on the menu. The clam chowder was more of a bowl of warm milk with a few gritty clams at the bottom, with an aftertaste of chemicals. It tasted very similar to canned clam chowder.
