Update on December 9, 2023 This is me updating my previous 2-star to a 5-star. Within minutes of my leaving the review, the owner contacted me and we spoke by phone. At first, I was hesitant because of too many bad experiences with businesses here in SoCal who get defensive. Everything is your fault or "too bad, so sad." But something told me to keep an open mind and I'm glad I did. She was incredibly gracious. In the call, she invited me back to the shop so I could get my interlocs tightened properly. Initially, I said no, due to the drive. But again, she had positive vibes and I really do want to like this shop. It's in a cool spot on Melrose with artsy energy, dope music, and it's gorgeous inside. Jazz did not disappoint. The second trip was far better than the first. She greeted me when I walked in, which did not happen on my first visit. The first time, I was wondering who my stylist was and after several minutes, I had to get up and ask somebody. But Jazz was engaging, friendly, and also efficient with the needlework. Below are the photos for before and after. I'll definitely be connecting with her for future appointments! --------- December 6, 2023 I don't like leaving unpleasant reviews for minority-owned businesses. Mostly, I just won't leave the review and will move on. But I had such high hopes for this place that I visited in a pinch before leaving for Vegas. Hopefully, this review will help Ladrea to work on time management. It was a serious problem that day. Fine, that happens in all shops at times, but she was rushing so hard my locs now look like they're three months old instead of just one month. My loctitian was Ladrea and maybe she was just having a day, maybe it was the last-minute nature of the appointment (I made it online, and the time slots had her as available). I went for a wash and tightening of my interlocks. I made clear in the notes for the appointment that my last tightening had been six months prior, so she could reasonably estimate the hours this would require. When I got there, she told me it would be a 20-minute wait. I was cool with that. But then her next appointment after me showed up about 2.5 to 3 hours into the job and she still had quite a bit of head left to loc on me. She really had to rush to get through it, and she told the next person she would be about half an hour late. Ordinarily, it takes about 6-7 hours because I go a long time. Ladrea got it done in 4. The wash was so-so. Very light. Didn't mess with my scalp, just the hair at the root. Had I known she wouldn't really get into my scalp, I would have deep-washed it myself beforehand. The description said the appointment came with a wash so I did not. They looked okay when I left the chair; not necessarily impressive but fine. But later that week, I found a loc in the very front that wasn't completely finished. Since then, I've found other locs she only halfway interlocked. Hairs were flying everywhere on the locs; normally, other locticians clean them up by wrapping them around or snipping them. Other locticians also add gel or product for a smooth, polished finish, and oil so they're glistening. This time, they were really rough. A month later, I am having to cave in early and contact one of my previous loctitians to request an emergency appointment. None of them were available a month ago; that's why I tried Locafella. I haven't gone for a tightening this soon since I first started locs. My locs have never looked this raggedy a month after the job. Never. They normally keep their luster for the first month to 6 weeks, and even after that, I can work with them for another six weeks to have them looking presentable. This is disappointing. On top of that, I tipped a respectable rate. The photos and reviews for this shop looked amazing. I'm not saying I'll never try this place again but I live in Torrance. That's a drive.

This a dope establishment all the ladies are extremely chill no bad vibes at all good music good conversation like I said a cool vibe. I go see La'Drea (@ecstatic_crowns on IG)she gets me right every time. Washes my hair(for additional price she'll offer to detox you if needed) I get double strand style every time they stay in the style at least 2 months(seriously they lasted 2 months). She's awesome not heavy handed extremely quick I'm usually out of there within an hour to an hour and half. My hair is always crispy af when she's done with me.

I had the pleasure of getting my hair done before vacation and one word...speechless. I was left SPEECHLESS! My knotless braids were beautifully done and I felt stunning!!! I could not stop looking in the mirror or taking selfies. I was ready to flaunt my braids on the Caribbean beaches and piña colada in hand. It was both an honor and pleasure being in the presence of La'Drea. The service she provided was unforgettable. She made me feel comfortable, she was gentle, and educated me on how to care and maintain my braids. She exudes a grace and energy about her that will surely having you coming back for more. It was easy to tip her $100. -- a customer for life!

Nubia is my longtime stylist & so I follow her anywhere! I was a little afraid of going to a Loc studio not having or getting locs done. Nubia has the softest touch ever you don't even feel her doing your hair. No matter what style I get I never have my head hurt & you feel the love she has for her craft! I feel like a Queen every time Nubia does my hair. As the location goes, I as well as the others was apprehensive about there being parking on Melrose & thankfully to my surprise it was open meter right in front of the salon. I came in on a rainy day & they had a rack set out for jackets not to be in the way & umbrellas. Felt super safe bringing my baby in & knowing there weren't gonna be any safety issues. We loved the energy in there! Baby girl was at ease, I was able to hold her in my chair while getting my hair done. All the stylists are extremely friendly & super knowledgeable in all hairstyles & types.

If you are in the LA area make sure you make an appt with LaDrea! She is absolutely amazing. She literally has growing hands. Every time I get up from her chair I have a style that lasts and healthier flowing locs! This place is literally a one stop shop! Everyone is super nice but I don't trust my locs with anyone but LaDrea!

My son has been going to Drea @ecstaticcrowns for a few years now and she always gets him right. For someone that is tender headed, Drea is always gentle with him. Highly recommended

    I love my hair style!

Locafella is a fantastic hair salon. I was able to get an appointment the same day I called. The owner was very kind and professional. She put me in touch with Dreya. When I arrived at Locafella, the studio was clean and filled with beautiful art and relaxing music. All stylists were very kind to every person that walked through the door. Dreya is fast, an awesome person to talk to, and my new loctician. I've received many compliments on my hair and ran out of business cards. If you are looking for a posh salon filled with professionals, this is the place to be.

Yuji was my hairdresser, and he was so kind, precise, and skilled with my haircut. When I first walked in, I thought, "ah this really is a no frills hair salon," and I'll admit I was a little nervous since it was my first time and I didn't know what to expect. As soon as I sat down, my nerves went away. Yuji was so gentle and attentive, and I felt really well taken care of. My appointment lasted about an hour and included a wash and cut. Parking is validated for up to two hours, which is definitely enough time. I was so happy with my results. I truly don't know how Yuji creates such magic with his hands! I'll be coming here from now on for my haircuts. Please show Yuji and Hair Craft your support by leaving a generous tip. An establishment like this that truly gives you high quality results for such a generous price deserves to be met with gratitude and good tips. Too many salons are charging an arm and a leg for a basic trim these days, and Hair Craft is not one of them. There were only 1-2 stylists working during my visit, so please be patient and make sure to book at least three weeks in advance. When I booked, they were already scheduled out for three weeks, and I overheard them telling other callers the same thing. Thankfully, it was absolutely worth the wait. I can't wait to come back and will definitely be booking with Yuji again. Thank you Hair Craft for such a wonderful experience!!!

He gave him quite the glow up and gave him a style that he could wear different ways - one way would not show a lot of change from his original haircut (so as not to get teased by classmates), but he could style it a few other ways that really showed off his individual style and he absolutely LOVED that. Now my nephew wants to come to LA for a haircut every time. LOL! Parking is available on the street, with a paid lot nearby near the restaurant Camelia. My partner and I both got haircuts from Manson at Roommate Salon (on separate occasions). My partner has very short hair, and I have long hair, and we're both extremely happy with the results. Manson is calm, focused, and incredibly meticulous. He also provides excellent advice tailored to your hair type. Don't expect a quick 30-minute haircut--Manson truly takes his time to ensure quality. I also had a Japanese scalp massage with Miko. Her technique was excellent, leaving me completely relaxed afterward. The pricing is on par with other hair salons in LA. My partner and I'm looking forward to our next haircut with Manson.

You're escorted to the lockers to put your belongings away, given a cozy robe, and immediately made to feel relaxed and taken care of. The service here is honestly unparalleled--even compared to many places I've visited in Japan. The scalp cleansing feels incredible, and the head massage is so amazing that it deserves to be its own standalone service. While you're getting your hair done, they also offer a variety of complimentary drinks and snacks, making the entire experience feel thoughtful and elevated. As for Olivia--she was phenomenal. I came in with no specific hairstyle in mind. I simply pointed out the areas I was concerned about, and she expertly created a look that suited me while explaining what she was doing every step of the way. She gave me practical styling tips and genuinely focused on the long-term health of my hair. What stood out the most was that she never tried to upsell me on products or unnecessary services. Instead, she genuinely cared about making sure my hair was healthy and that I left happy with the results. That level of honesty is hard to find these days. If you're looking for a salon that values quality, craftsmanship, and customer care over making a quick sale, this is the place. It was my very first time with The Hideout Salon and not only was he understanding of any scheduling rearrangements we had to make, he also made sure to make it a point that we would be setting enough time aside for what we would anticipate needing so that when the time came, there would be zero rush along with top quality service which makes a huge difference in customer experience compared to factory booking which sacrifices quality, time, and attentiveness for squeezing in numbers, and as clients we all greatly appreciate this! While I was waiting Allie was very sweet and settled me in/welcomed me and offered me something to drink. The decor of the place felt very cozy and cute. If youre a dog lover you'll also be very happy to probably see a friendly cute Lil doggo named Carl (Karl?) comfortably shimmying his way around the shop (and if youre scared of dogs dont worry, he really just does his own thing Lol). Hes So darn cute and floofy. I came in for both a color and a consultation for a potential cut. Because I sometimes tend to notice/look at details that others may want to gloss over or perceive as me overanalyzing, it felt really difficult for me to explain to others how my recent haircut from another place just a month or two ago had specific lengths and cuts in specific areas going around my whole hair that had left my previous haircut feeling kind of "off" in certain ways and that I felt was giving my hair the very slight illusion of looking shorter than it actually really was and a little "choppy" in some areas, which then had an effect on how it framed my face/widened it instead of helping elongate it. But when I explained it to Daniel, he totally got it and even held up the individual sections that he agreed were causing those effects, why it was creating the effect that it was and how we would resolve it. I was so happy that he not only truly acknowledges and makes it important to understand where his clients are coming from (whether its concerns or goals etc) but that he also has such skill and knowledge to be able to fully do so and hit the nails right on the head. The color was also beautiful as well and because I wanted something that was healthier than permanent that would also give my hair a healthier appearance (ie shine, softness, gloss etc) he recommended the demi and also mentioned that it would make it easier down the road for me to go lighter if I ever wanted to. The color blended and matched so well with the rest of my hair and everything from the cut to the color made me feel like all of my goals were achieved. Everything Daniel did with my hair left me feeling so *Bonita*, and he was just such a joy to work with and an awesome person all around. Thank you Daniel for this lovely experience :) -------------------------------- Parking: Since the salon is in the heart of Downtown, its best to try and arrive a bit earlier than your appointment time and to be prepared for alot of one way streets and quickly turning into the available open public parking lots closeby before passing the salon (to avoid having to go further down in a circle to get back to the parking again). I believe there are 2 or 3 lots before you pull up to the salon that have big signs that say public parking. If youre driving towards the direction of the salon, out of the 3 the first one youll pass is just self-service/pay which was the one I parked in, and the other two have attendants as you pull up to the salon. Im not sure if both of those allow open access to all, so i will find out the next time I go again :) The front of the salon itself can be very easy to miss so just make sure to park before you even pass it on your GPS and youll see a small little sign over a door that says the Hideout salon when you walk up. There will be a door code for you to enter so just ask the salon for the door code in advance so that youre all set to go when you get there as well :)

I left The Hideout completely blown away by the results and didn't feel the need to tweak, adjust, or "fix" anything afterward, which is rare. Even the blow-dry/silk press combo lasted a full week.
