The service here has got to be the worst aspect of this place. I don't place blame on the employees, but the ordering system just makes very little sense to me. The poor person who operates the register is also responsible for bringing out the meals to the patrons. This leaves a lot of room for confusion and waiting for people trying to order. The food is above average for me. The burgers can be extremely messy, which can be good or bad depending on your view. The fries are better than Five Guys'. I just wish that they would toast the buns or use a different type of bun. The mess can be a bit much for me sometimes. read more

We stopped in today for lunch after lots and lots of shopping... my husband had been in before and recommended it. Being a non-beef eater and disliking a lot of foods (yes, I admit, I can be picky!), I went back and forth trying to decide if I wanted the turkey burger (my husband's recommendation) or the capt'n crunch chicken fingers (staff recommendation) and settled on the chicken - very yummy - lightly crusted, not greasy, and flavorful! They also have a portabella mushroom burger and a veggie burger I'd also like to try in the future! My mom got a burger with mushrooms and loved hers, as well... we split some hand cut fries and they were also delicious - not oily or soggy at all like some others posted, nor were they salty which I'm sensitive to and is often a problem! The people at Local were super friendly and helpful! We were also curious where a small store was in town and they were quick to help any way they could, even letting me use their iPad, and I had no problem finding it with their directions - MUCH APPRECIATED! It sounds like maybe some of the kinks have been worked out since they first opened which is when most of the reviews were written/referencing. Last stop in Keene before heading home. Good selection of options to choose from and everything was fresh and tasty. My girls each had a Westhampton burger and the bbq sauce rocks. They also ordered fried pickles. I've tried these once before and quite honestly, I don't get it. Well, I think they don't get either, so they ended up in the trash. They also ordered sweet potato fries. I've now had these in several different places and I've decided I don't like them either. But they did disappear, maybe because of the dipping sauce which is Maple Mayo and is delicious. Anyway, I wouldn't hesitate to come back here. read more

We were super hesitant to try this place based on the reviews, but we went on in for lunch anyway. The space was really big and had a poor layout; In my opinion. Lots of tables towards the front of the restaurant and open space toward the back/ register area. It just didn't have a "warm" feel, maybe adding soft seating somewhere would help, idk. The menu offers all sorts of sandwiches and sides (mostly fried). Also offering beer and sangria. I do love when restaurant joints offer grass fed beef, etc... But we opted for the veggie burger, the captain crunch chicken fingers (tossed with honey BBQ) and sweet potato fries instead. The veggie burger was definitely good, but it was fried. Something I thought would be more healthy turned out not. It was really good although what fried item isn't good? The chicken fingers were good, but a tad too sweet for me. Husband really enjoyed them - he said perfectly coated and fried. Win for him! Sadly, the sweet potato fries were terrible. Seemed under cooked, very soggy and just tasteless. Fast. Delish. Cheap. We liked it. A lot. My husband got a beef burger and I got a turkey burger. They were yummy. He said his was *almost* as good as the ones he gets at The Squealing Pig in Provincetown (they're known for their burgers). My turkey burger was among the best I've ever had. Added in some sweet potato fries (also good) and two beers and it was a little less than $25. ETA: We've been back a few time and the fries and onion rings are a hit/miss. read more

Some pretty harsh comments for this burger house seem to us a little over-wrought. It's not the best around but it's far from the worst, whatever that might be. It's a spacious, bare-bones sort of interior with a little outdoor seating. We visited on a very busy Sunday afternoon and got a moderately priced meal, quickly served and with reasonably friendly service. Burgers are the house specialty, and the turkey burger loaded with lettuce/tomatoes/onions.pickle was fresh and tasty, and the Captain Crunch chicken tenders were even better, deliciously crispy with a choice of complementary sauces. The French fries were crispy though a little on the greasy side. Grass-fed beef burgers are available, and while we didn't sample one, we approve of the offering. The restaurant focuses on local produce/meat, which is commendable and merits support although we wish they could have done a little more with it. We like treating ourselves to a burger here every once in a while. We can't do it often because it's expensive for a burger and fries, but the servings are generous and the ingredients are local, so it's worth the money. In general the food is good but sometimes comes out a little overcooked. One menu item that deserves special mention is their own veggie burger. Last night I was in heaven with the grass fed burger. Went back today for the same meal. Today it was tough, which for grass fed means it wasn't cooked at low enough heat. I suggest you sear on high and cook on lower heat. The fries were soggy. I still give it four stars because of the high quality ingredients. I find the mixed reviews on Local Burger Keene very strange....If you ever make it over to their other location In Northampton, you will find the line long and a lot of happy customers chowing down on the awesome burgers and fries, ---customers who, BTW, also know it is good manners to tip the order taker/server a buck! If you want a burger from somewhere else (like frozen from Nebraska,) that is not grass fed, and fries that start out frozen, from wherever--- sure!, go to any of the chain restaurants, and pay $8.00 for what they give you... We're talking flavorful meat here---Whether turkey, or grass fed beef, or the very good Hebrew National hot dog ---or for vegetarians, veggie burger--it's about the flavor.....And great hand cut fries, tasty fried pickles, and huge onion rings....Like was mentioned in another review: all really good quality! I will say that people that are used to processed/frozen meats may not get what this burgers and more place is trying to do for burger lovers. There are some bogus bad reviews about this place. I've been to the Northampton MA location several times so I decided to try out the Keene location while on vacation in NH... Local is sooooo amazing.. The burgers are so good they are addicting, the fries are awesome, they have quick service... And the sweet potatoes fries with maple mayo? Forget about it, you can do no better. This location kept up to par with the Northampton location which means it is now the best place fore burgers in New Hampshire I had the westhampton and sweet potato fries and some fried pickles... Loved the experience, and feel better about New Hampshire now that I know they stepped their game up in the world of burgers read more

I've tried out both of their restaurants in Keene and Northampton. They always have good food, especially the onion rings. The restaurant has a nice ambience and great view of downtown Keene. My only criticism would be that their sweet potato fries aren't being cooked long enough. They always come out to the table limp with a crunchy center. And sometimes they over batter the onion rings and don't cook them long enough. The batter around the onion comes out as undercooked dough. But other then that, I always enjoy stopping by Locals! read more

Everything was delicious! You can definitely tell everything is fresh and homemade. Nothing frozen, just the way every place should be. I have tried just about every burger, and I can tell you right now I wont be going anywhere else next time i'm craving for a well cooked local burger! Even the captain crunch chicken tenders are delicious. I went out on a limb and it was well worth it. Not to sweet and definitely not bland at all! And how can you not support the fact that the ground beef if from a local farm? Even the ice cream is local! love it! You can guarantee you will not leave hungry. I moved to Keene a few years ago and never ate here. I'm not sure why, perhaps because it just looked like a cheap sandwich shop. But wow, one day I wanted a burger and we decided to try it. These guys make the 2nd best burger that I've ever had in my 54 years! I'm serious, they are that good. (My wife says the turkey burger is great also.) The sweet potato fries are good but I think they are a bit over-cooked, almost burnt. I went into this burger joint with mediocre expectations and those weren't even met. I wanted a simple burger and fries. I was informed that they were out of the grass-fed burgers and could not order that. Ok, I'll have a regular burger with bacon and blue cheese. They are out of bacon. It was ok. Serving sizes were large. Chili fries were heavy on the meat and light on the chili and the half melted cheese (can't tell if it was American or Cheddar) was a turn-off. Local Burger is a great place in Keene. I've really never had a bad experience until yesterday (10/25/16). I was eating a late lunch and was facing Main Street when I saw an interesting group of people hovering outside of the restaurant. My concern was raised but I didn't want to put judgment on anyone I didn't know so I tried my best to brush my worry away... that is, until one of the group walked into Local Burger right into the bathroom and walked out about 3 minutes later and said some things and gestured back inside to the group standing outside... then two from the group walked into the bathrooms and left after about 5 minutes... then the last one walked into the bathroom and left. Each one touching their arm on their way out and acting stranger than when they entered. It appeared that the staff knew what had happened because the nice woman who was working the register that day immediately went into both restrooms to remove the trash that was in there. I truly appreciate that kind of action, especially at a place where I've seen families with kids dining. I understand drug use and abuse is a prevalent issue, especially in Keene, but it is concerning when four people can walk into a restaurant and use illicit drugs right on the premises. I'd like to know if the manager is aware of this or has seen this happen before? There should be some kind of rule in place for bathrooms such as not being able to use them unless you are a paying customer or staff needing to pass of a key to a customer and have the customer return it kind of deal. It ruined the meal to be quite honest. I was and still am very uncomfortable after that incident. It's not easy to keep an eye on everything, I know. I hope this helps redirect the focus of management and staff for at least a little while until you feel more in control of the environment. read more

went to local for the first time despite some bad reviews, I'm glad we did. had the best burger of my life. I chose the local grass Fed by burger Westhampto n style. burger was cooked to perfection and the bacon was so good. my friend had a veggie burger. all fresh veggies a little spice to it, very nice. they say that it's made in house. We tried the capt crunch chicken tenders and the onion rings, huge portions and delicious. they had a special lobster mac and cheese stuffed burger didn't try it but sounds amazing. service was great music was nice and just a really cool vibe. local is officially my favorite restaurant in keene. Turned me off before even having the opportunity to try the place. Walked in at about ten of 10 pm and having worked in food service years ago I can appreciate how obnoxious customers can be that walk in at the last second order something time consuming and sit for an extended period of time. That said I loved the previous restaurant armadillos and figured I'd give this place a shot and support something local rather than resorting to sub way or the likes. So I walk in politely ask if they are still serving the girl looks at me like I'm asking some outrageous question but at least offered to ask the kitchen which I appreciated considering the door was wide open the open sign lit up and fully staffed. Granted I told her not to bother and it was fine she apologized. Just as im walking out the door I hear this obnoxious voice pipe up sarcastic as can be YEAH SORRY IT IS DEFINITELY 10 o'clock we can't help you. Either way the commentary was uneeded and felt rude and unwelcoming. For a restaurant surrounded by stellar cuisine the owner might want to reconsider coping an attitude with first and last potential customers. Just take a look at the response Patrick M recieved from owner Jeff L to get a feel for the attitude of Local Burger. Do yourself a favor and hit up fritz five guys or even if your feeling daring Port Authority (run by yet another exceptionally rude individual but at least the food is fantastic). This is my first yelp review but I felt compelled to share as isnt the kind touch of a local establishment versus the robotic attitude of chains what makes it worth supporting locak business.
