Ugh. I would love to go back and give it another try and I may force myself just to make sure it was just a one time bad meal. Our service was incredibly slow on a fairly average day. I ordered two burgers to split with my daughters so we could try the veggie options, the veggie burger and the Portobello burger. Both were inedible. The veggie burger was completely burned. The portobello burger was gritty and crunched like sand. Yuck. My husband thought his grass-fed burger was just ok but not worth the $$. He questioned whether it was really grass-fed as that is the only meat I buy for him and it did not have the same flavor. The fries were only ok. Fritz's are so much better. This place is okay. I went here once--wasn't wowed, but wasn't turned off by the whole experience either. I probably won't come back because Five Guys has Keene's best burger and fries. Pretty good burger place that we stopped on the way home from skiing. The onion rings were very delicious but also very greasy. The burgers were very big and filling but might make your stomach hurt a bit. It took about 15 minutes for the order to be ready. Overall I would go again if I was in the area looking for a burger. read more

If I could give it a lower score I would Restaurant was dead yet took me 30 minutes to get a beer... Never come here.. Waitress was to busy talking to her parents who were one of ten in whole restaurant. They sat right behind us it was physically impossible to look at them and not see us... But she was just there to hang out obviously bc when she saw someone from the band ( who was getting ready to perform) she ran right over and greeted him (which we never got) so clearly her eye sight is fine... A tasty burger BUT horrible service. Especially when your pregnant and hungry! We ordered two local burgers. Yum! But the waitress/server (whatever they are) kept walking around with burgers asking everyone if it was theirs. Twice she asked us, both times not our food, both times I told her no we ordered two local burgers... After 26 mins I finally went up to ask and there was our food sitting in the bag. Apparently unknown to my husband and myself (sitting at one of the closest tables to the registers) she had called our name and walked around with our food asking people if it was theirs... Decided to try this place as my boyfriend and I were craving burgers. Here's the good, the bad, and the ugly about Local. The Good- My boyfriend and I both ordered a juicy Lucy with bacon, as well as a basket of sweet potato fries. The food was really yummy! The sweet potato fries came with a delicious mustard type sauce and the burger was cooked perfect for myself. The Bad- I asked for no pickles on my burger and it had pickles on it. Something else that was odd to me was that the bottom of my hamburger bun was cold. It seemed as though it has been frozen and it hadn't fully thawed. The Ugly- Minus myself and my boyfriend there were six other tables being used. Within the 45 min we were there, 4 customers sent their orders back, the cashier/food runner couldn't get anyone's order to the right table the first, second, or third time, and she gave our food to the wrong table. Thankfully they didn't touch it and we ate it anyways. Tl;dr If you can get past the rough service, and by some miracle your order comes out how you ordered it, it isn't too bad. read more

Stopped in for the first time. Decided on the buffalo french fries, and I got the blue cheese and buffalo on the side since I was getting it to go. Started snacking on them as soon as I got them while walking out. Very disappointing, tasted burnt, unseasoned, limp and soggy. Staff was ok.. not particularly friendly or helpful. Cute little place right downtown. I couldn't eat much because the menu lacked variety. I had sweet potato fries and an Almond Joy milk shake. Both were tasty but really nothing stood out about them. Would implore them to see an alternate to their standard burger that doesn't include mushroom (reason I couldn't eat much) and clearly state on their menu that the veggie burger contains mushroom. Being vegetarian very glad to see a veggie burger on the menu, as well as a mushroom patty and a special veggie burger option. My burger was good and the person I was with got their burger cooked rare like they love. Like Five Guys or Moo-Yah fries unfortunately have to be bought separate. Onion rings are giant and taste good, the fried pickles however were some of the worst "fried" pickles I've ever had in my entire life. I LOVE fried pickles but these pickles were tossed in cornmeal and completely tasteless. If the description had said that was how they battered them I wouldnt have spent the money. I want to start by saying, yes, I went in on a holiday (July 4th) and new that it would be busy. They were busy and only had two employees in the shop (cook and a guy taking ordered and serving food). They were both clearly trying hard to provide good service add that good far with me. It took an hour to get my food, and I didn't even get what I had ordered. At that point, I didn't even want to correct them as I had spent the last hour watching these two men argue about various issues and didn't want to add any fuel. I had also requested my food to go and it was brought out in a basket... I opted to just wrap my food up in the paper that came with it and head home. The burger I got was the Local Burger. It was pretty good, except one obvious mistake. NEVER put canned mushrooms on a burger, nasty!! The service was incompetent! The server said its take 15min and that she would bring me the food, it was to go. Twice she came over and asked if the order she had in hand was mine I said no, I ordered two local burgers. Then 25min later my wife finally went up to ask about our food and it was just sitting there all ready to go. The server said she went around twice calling out my name but no one answered. Are you kidding me!?! It was quiet, only a few other people in the place and just minutes ago we told her twice we had the two burgers. It was frustrating just sitting inside 10 feet away from the server and our food just sitting there. Seems like a bunch of college babies running the place and they can't even mop the floor and wipe the tables when it's slow, I'd never go in there if it looked busy. There is no existing system to how they fill orders. The server can't remember who ordered what and goes around asking everyone who's food they are holding. Make a system! Number to order, either call it out or have them take and leave a number on their table for you to see! Easy!! I would come here again because the food has always been pretty tasty. Local Burger is my absolute favorite restaurant. Every time I go, I order a special dog (a captain crunch coated and deep fried hot dog topped with buffalo sauce and bleu cheese), a farmhouse turkey burger, and buffalo fries. I have eaten a majority of the items on their menu, and I have yet to find anything that I am not absolutely in love with. Their burgers are juicy, and the toppings always add an unexpected dimension. Additionally, the sweet potato fries are delicious; they come with a tasty maple mayo dip. I would have never expected this kind of quality from such a small, local diner. All of their beef is grass fed. The food is prepared quickly, and they are surprisingly good at getting it out all at once - all of it fresh and still hot. The staff is personable, and what else is there not to love? read more

The burgers we had were incredibly delicious, and so were the fries. There are lots of fun burger choices. Keep in mind, though, that if you get a special kind of burger, it can be a lot of meat, because they put the special ingredients between two patties. The fries were a bit heavy on the salt, but they were so delicious. I did not give the restaurant 5 stars because there were many tables available for us to choose from, but not one was clean. Local is offering a good variety of burgers - Angus, grass-fed, turkey, portobello, veggie... plus hot dogs and chicken tenders, fries, onion rings. Drinks-wise they offer sodas, beers, wine and sangria. The ambience is casual, similar to Five Guys or Burger Fi - upscale fast food where you order at the counter and the food is delivered to your table. The counter service is super friendly and efficient, 5 stars for that. Also five stars for offering such a good selection of burgers and toppings - particularly a grass-fed beef option. I've knocked off a star for a few reasons: the burgers were slightly overcooked. I wanted medium and got well, my BF got medium instead of rare. The buns were cold (this is a not uncommon mistake, but it really takes away from the flavor and enjoyment). Though the grass fed burgers had a good flavor, they were too lean and therefore on the dry side. The fries were really tasty but a bit floppy. Everything was well seasoned. I noticed a couple of people complained about the price, but I can't understand why. You do't get quality like this a couple of bucks. Local charges $6-$8 which is totally good value based on the ingredients used. I would definitely eat here again when in Keene. read more

Went to get a root beer float, they advertised "Delicious Walpole Creamery Ice Cream" so it's not like this was a crazy move. For $3.75 they gave me a small disposable cup (think McDonald's Happy Meal size drink) with half a scoop of vanilla ice cream in it and told me to fill it up with root beer myself. First off, EVERYONE KNOWS root beer goes in first, ask a ten year old, otherwise the fizz is out of control. Also, what a crap experience for $3.75. Next time I will go to the delicious and poorly named YOLO and get so much more deliciousness. read more

Staff was great! The ambiance was OK simple tables in a prettty bare place but not bad for a burger joint. The burger was OK but we did not opt for the pricier grass fed beef, you might want to. The fried food is REALLY greasy! We wrapped the onion rings in nakins which became saturated and they were still greasy. I think they are cooking at too low a temperature, opt for something other than fried. you can do worse you can do better. read more

I refuse to pay that kind of money for a mediocre at best burger... That being said, I do like the fact that everything is local. I do have to say the 'Cap'n Crunch' buffalo chicken is very good, and their home made sweet potato fries are the only two reasons I eat there. Those should be reason enough to at least give 'Local' a try. The employee that is usually at the front register needs to learn how to talk to people, or they need to find someone who is some what engaging. I feel like I'm talking to a jar of mayonnaise whenever I order there. They have seating outside which is great during the summer time, the people watching in Keene is fantastic... Depending on when you go... ... However, they are located right next to a very popular spot for juggalos and junkies. So you might get annoyed very easily, you will probably hear language that children should not be present for, and you might witness a drug deal or two... ... Although I have been disappointed by their food before, and wouldn't eat there again, I do enjoy their milkshakes. They claim to use local ice cream, which I appreciate. It was a warm January day yesterday, so I thought I'd stop in for a milkshake. Walked in to a completely empty restaurant around 7pm, with music playing so loud I felt like I had walked into a (terrible) frat party. It was so loud the people working undoubtedly couldn't even hear the jingle of the bells on the door. I stood at the counter for a few minutes, no one noticed me, though I could see two guys standing in the back. After standing there and failing to get anyone's attention, I simply turned around and walked out, which no one noticed. So, I can't even really give this place 1 star, as I was unable to get anyone's attention to place an order. I looked online for a way to contact the restaurant's owners, but had no luck. I don't know if they read these reviews (seems not given the consistently negative feedback), but I do want them to know that they lost a sale (which, given their apparent volume of sales last night, they probably couldn't afford to do) because their employees weren't even up to the simple task of noticing a customer. This place is a terrible waste of a great downtown location. I can think of so many other restaurant concepts I'd like to see in that space. Sad. read more

I ordered the sriracha burger and all i could taste was this sickenly sweet jelly they had put on it. i was so confused, it wasn't spicy at all but kept eating it anyway thinking perhaps i was missing something, as if they had candied the sriracha and taken the spice out of it. as i finished off my burger the cashier came up to me and said that the cook didn't think he put any sriracha on it. i said thanks for letting me know, i was so confused about my burger and said it was nasty and she just turned and walked away. considering that i had splurged on the grass fed beef one would think there might be some sort of recompense. on a side note, when a family member went they screwed up the order and when he said something about it got nothing but attitude in return. id rather go somewhere else where the staff acts like they care about their customers and won't be returning. read more

I really want to love this place, since my husband loves it so much, but I just can't do it. I've been to Local Burger 3 times over the last year and a half, and every time I bite into my "pink" burger, it is always well done. Personally, I don't even want pink, I want medium rare, which would be light red, but since they have their own special system I go with pink out of respect to the business, but it never works. I even said to the staff this last time "I know you have this pink or not pink thing going on, but can you please try to make my burger medium rare?". They seemed to understand, but again my burger was well done when I asked for pink. I will say the burgers have always had good charbroiled flavor, and the toppings were of good quality, especially the bacon. I don't love the hand cut fries, but that's more of a personal preference thing; hand cut fries just aren't my thing. The staff is always really friendly, and the place is always very clean. The first two times I went here we probably waited a good 15 minutes before we got our food. In all fairness, it was very busy. They did improve on speed this last time though and it only took about 7 minutes to get our food. Not totally unreasonable. I don't think the prices are out of line at all. When you consider this is a small, local joint that uses higher quality ingredients resulting in higher food costs than McDonald's and the bigger chains, I think the prices are spot on. I would recommend Local to people, but I doubt I'll be back myself. Three times is enough disappointment for me. read more

Went here once when it first opened. Probably won't be back. The atmosphere was MUCH better when it was Armadillo's. The black & white floors are nice but the FIRE ENGINE RED HIGH GLOSS painted walls are ridiculously bright & gave me a headache - thankfully we were eating outside anyway so I only had to sit in there for 10 minutes or so. The name "Local" makes me think it's going to be a fun, comfortable, trendy hippy-dippy place with locally sourced vegan & vegetarian options & hormone & antibiotic-free meats, not JUST a burger joint. Skimpy menu. They had one vegetarian option - a portabella mushroom burger, that was just "meh". Their fries tasted okay, but were REALLY greasy & made me feel sick afterwards. This is by far the best burger in town. Sure they could use an airlock to keep the place less drafty in winter, and sure they could use a side dish that is green and veggie-like but, if you want really amazing hamburgers and milkshakes, this is a great place. One of my favorite places for casual dining in Keene. The burgers are big and juicy, the variations creative and the portions are substantial (we always end up taking some home). I always order pink and it always is - many places won't sell anything except medium well or worse. You're not going to pay fast food prices and you shouldn't expect fast food quality.
