The patio is undeniably the best in Gastown - great for people watching on a sunny day, with a relaxed vibe and decent drinks & food. Also relatively affordable, especially for the area which is a step up from Chill Winston. Unfortunately, service on the patio has been super terrible the past couple of times I have been to this location. The last time, they served me wine in the dirtiest glass I've seen... it had pulp stuck to the sides and clearly had not been cleaned. The server did not apologize and barely acknowledged my request for a new glass. I couldn't believe it! It definitely wouldn't be my first choice but it is a fun spot to go drinking with a group of friends if you can get over the (lack of) service. read more

We stopped at this restaurant after doing a free walking tour. Our party of 7 - 4 adults and 3 preteens were sat immediately outside. Most of our group are pescatarian and sometimes struggle with finding a meal where we can all eat. We had two Harvest Salads with the ahi tuna - seared perfectly, my husband ordered the Thai chicken salad with ahi instead of chicken and loved it. My son ordered a tuna poke bowl that was delicious and our group also ordered the fish tacos and the chicken sandwich. All were delicious! We stopped here for a drink and snack and the place is hopping. Friendly and great service and a fun atmosphere. We snacked on the pierogis which was filled with cheese and had bacon and caramelized onions. It was pure comfort food and delicious. Hosts were nice and helpful, the guacamole app was good, the tuna poke main on top of greens was nice, as well. My husband asked for the pasta which was very small portioned and we asked for no cheese, but it came with cheese. Nothing for kids here and the service seemed slow and not enough waitresses. I sat at the bar and was greeted by the bartender that night; payo! it was my last night in Vancouver and definitely one to remember. Payo did such a great job making me feel welcome. Since we came here to soak in the local nightlife and not for food, I can only provide a rating based on my time here, drinking beer, and enjoying the atmosphere and chatting it up withe the "locals" at Local. Based on that criteria, five stars is a no-brainer. Maybe it's because of where we're from (not Canada) but people here were so friendly; it's as if everyone you meet is a personal Canadian welcome committee. It's because of the wonderful quaintness of the town, the overall cleanliness, the friendly denizens, etc... that makes Local a microcosm of everything we enjoyed about Vancouver. And of course, we enjoyed the variety of beers they had on tap. Add a nice porter and/or stout and you'll be perfect. But regardless, Local still earns five stars in my book. read more

Hello, I am leaving this review because I am hoping that Local Gastown reads this. My husband went out to eat with his buddy and ordered a Virgin Caesar because he was taking cough medicine due to a cold. When he got home, he was feeling really off and it was clear to me that he had been given something with alcohol in it (he was flushed, his breath smelled of alcohol). I am asking if Local Gastown please double check their drink orders? I don't want to see this happen to someone who orders a virgin drink because they can't have alcohol for medical reasons. Didn't eat food. Sunday night, only a few other tables which would be my only knock. Their stout beer was fantastic. I spilled about half of my beer and without question the server gave me a free new full beer and quickly cleaned up my clumsy mess. We went to this restaurant today in Gastown. It was a great decision on a beautiful day. We sat in the side patio. Our server was very helpful as we were not familiar with the beer list and gave us a lot of samplers. We shared a bunch of appetizers and one person got a veggie burger. It was a home made patty and honestly could be one of the best veggie patties I've ever had. Their Yam fries along with the truffle sauce was also delicious. Being a huge supporter of local by coming here on the regular. I was completely disappointed by their new nachos. My partner and I came here with the excitement of having a full order of nachos that we enjoy on the regular but we were never informed by the changes that occurred. We love the kitchen staff that assemble all the dishes because they do a fabulous job day in and day out. The Local was amazing! This is my GF and I first time in Vancouver and we couldn't be happier. We had the deluxe burger and the wings. One word "YUM". On top of delicious food we had amazing service! Our waitress Justine made the experience phenomenal!!!! We loved her!!! She was very attentive, friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and even gave us recommendations on things to do during our visit! The manager even came to check on us and was so pleasant to meet! Went in for drinks. Mine was overloaded with vodka which made it unappealing for me. Nothing about the place from the decor, customer service or menu stood out. I did notice quite a few dirty tables despite it being relatively slow with lots of staff. Visited Vancouver from Calgary for the week, Local ended up being one of our last stops and it was phenomenal. Lawren was our server and she was extraordinary, by far the most personable server we've had the entire time we've been in Vancouver. Certainly ask for her and you can be sure to enjoy the service. We had the pirogies as appetizers and they were some of the best pirogies I've had. The Reuben melts in your mouth, and my fish tacos were beyond impressive. Went early afternoon on a sunny day with single digit temperature. Sitting on the patio against the building was comfortable. Service was casual and which ever server happened to be around looked after our needs. I ordered the Local burger with yam fries and my wife just yam fries. The server assumed without asking that my wife didn't need a fork while I was given fork and knife - the opposite of what was actually needed. The burger was a double but the same amount of meat as a usual single. The burger was tasty but could has used a better bun as the bottom was completely soggy by the time I finished. read more
