This is a fun place! It's a fun, chill ambiance. They have so many options for food and drinks. We tried a bit of everything and loved it all. The service was ok. She was very sweet but just kept forgetting things. She didn't put in our appetizer order and forgot drinks and silverware and had to be asked a couple times. I don't hold it against her. She was sweet and meant well. I don't think this should deter you from trying it though because the food was great! We all shared food and everyone enjoyed it all. First stop when we got to Vancouver. We hadn't eaten all day and were so hungry! This was the perfect place, because the food came out so quickly and piping hot! I got a chicken burger and my husband got a brisket burger with fries. The fries were yummy and the adobe ketchup was interesting. Didn't love it at first, but after a few dips it grew on me. My chicken burger was cooked perfect, crispy, and had great flavor. My husband also enjoyed his burger! Drinks were also good. Server was super great. We came in for lunch for fathers day weekend. The ambiance of the place is great. Lots of TVs to watch games. However, the servers were not very attentive and we ordered the BBQ platter for 4 (for 2 elderly who do not eat very much and 2 women) and it was just enough. Food wise, we liked the pulled pork, the brisket and the tots. But the ribs and wings were dry, and the corn bread was a bit burned, soggy and crazy dense. A nice local watering hole with pretty good smoked meat. Smoked meat platters are tasty and have sizeable portions. The Brussels sprouts, mac and cheese and cornbread are pretty good sides. The fried chicken sandwich is also pretty good, although somehow it was better pre-pandemic. Not sure if the recipe was changed? In general the Devils Elbow has suffered from the same issues that a lot of places have since the pandemic - smaller portions and higher prices. Still a solid choice though with decent food. Pretty good beer selection. Cocktails are okay. Service is friendly, ambiance is a casual bar/pub vibe without being divey. I'd pop in from time to time for a drink or bite in the area. Food: 1/3 Service: -1/1 Ambience: 1/1 I come here quite frequently with a group of co-workers since we work close by, and even from the first time I'd come here I wasn't impressed with the food. I've had something different every time and either it hasn't been great (too sweet, too dry, etc.) or mediocre at best. Drinks are ok, but the selection is pretty standard. The only thing I would give Devil's Elbow credit for is its ability to accomodate large groups at a short notice, which is a big reason why this is a go-to spot. Our last visit here was absolutely terrible though. We had a large group coming in after work, and immediately the servers were giving us attitude about having to fit a large group in (keep in mind we have come in on short notice with 15+ people before and this was only a group of 10 at most). If the place was packed I would've understood, but 3/4 of the place was empty! We had some people arriving after the initial group got the table - 2 of our interns came to sit with us and was refused service for no apparent reason so they just left. Another 2 people arrived after - one had a cup with a drink in it which the waitress said wasn't allowed, and she immediately said very politely "oh sorry I didn't know that, I can throw it away". Her bf then immediately took the cup outside to throw it away, then when he came back the waitress told them "we're not serving you because you're too drunk" and had them both kicked out as well. Keep in mind this was the ONLY interaction that happened and they had been there 30s at most. At this point our group had such a bad taste in our mouth from the rude treatment and how they seemingly were making up reasons to keep kicking our group out (up to 4 people now) that some just settled their bill right then and left with the last 2 to go elsewhere. Again, if the place was packed I could understand having some attitude about accomodating a largish group, but I looked around and 3/4 of the place was empty. One of the most rude and worst service I've had in my life. DO NOT recommend. There is MUCH better food elsewhere especially in downtown Vancouver, their drink selection is extremely standard and again can be found anywhere else, and even the one pro of them being able to accomodate large groups doesn't even stand anymore, with absolute rude service on top. read more

This is a pub that also specializes in BBQ. I had to try the poutine since I hadn't had a chance yet during this trip. Wow, the poutine was good! I had smoked brisket added to mine. (This is a BBQ joint after all) The fries were cooked perfectly... plenty of crunch to stand up to the gravy. The bacon and brisket were a great addition. I'm no poutine expert, but this one was great. We also ordered the smoked chicken wings. They had a very nice deep smoke flavor that complemented the house made buffalo sauce we chose. There are other interesting sauce choices available for the wings, including an intriguing dry rub. Tried a locally brewed dark ale... Hoyne Dark Matter. That, too, was fantastic. There was a wide variety of beers and ubiquitous IPAs available. If you like a dark ale or porter or even a stout, try that Hoyne. The bar tender was very friendly as well. All around, a great experience... I wish this place was in Los Angeles so I could go again. read more

Came here as a group of two on weekend night. Friend decided to try this place as last time he was in the area, everything was sold out. Must be good right? Once seated, we looked around the menu. Wow, the price looks really steep, have I been staying inside too long or something?? Not feeling beer that day, and cocktail was $14, so I decided to skip alcohol. Decided to order the BBQ SHARING PLATTERS for 2 which cost $55. We picked tater tots and mac'n cheese cornbread as the sides. Everything was dry except the pulled pork, which is super soggy, and the sausage (you can't mess this up). The sauce on the rib was pretty good, but not enough to mask the super dry rib. In summary, below average food, steep price, even the best service could never carry. Service that day was whatever, sometimes the server forgot to fill our water. Will never come back :)) read more

I hate writing 1 star reviews, and if you look at my profile, you'll see they are extremely rare (less than 1%). I also, don't review immediately after, unless it was amazing, or terrible. In this case things went south. Been here many times. Love the BBQ, and that's what we came for. Things started off really well. Service was great, and BBQ was great as usual. Around 10pm though, things deteriorated. 10pm is 2 whole hours before closing time, so I don't know what the rush was, but the staff really started to make it clear that they wanted to clear out the place asap. We were not planning on staying much longer anyway, but the pressure to pay and leave really became unbearable. So, we left quickly, but certainly not happily. read more

I am amazed at the BBQ here. So a colleague told me that they are famous for their ribs (I am not sure about that). I got their BBQ ribs and it was so smoky tasting. I mean it was not saucy but nor was it dry either. So the BBQ ribs is a full rack of ribs with 2 sides for $25. I got the mac and cheese and frites to go along with it. Everything yummy. The ketchup which looked like dangerous hot sauce was really tasty. It is homemade style ketchup (not the Heinz cheap stuff). I love that ketchup because it has a nice sweet kick to it. I was told that their whisky flat is really good but super expensive. Will only get if someone else is paying for it or maybe at a company event one day. But again I don't really drink. The smoke house is small inside. I managed to get the last table at the right time when I arrived (just before 6pm). Remember to come early. Definitely yummy ribs. read more

I was craving BBQ! We wanted a place that had a decent happy hour and a great beer selection. We were seated at a window seat which was tucked into a little nook in the restaurant so it was nice and private. Table was a bit sticky which threw me off bit but was wiped promptly. We had the smoked wings, cauliflower bites, pulled pork sandwich and the beef Brisket sandwich with crispy brussel sprouts on the side. The cauliflower bites were decent, a great portion. It would be great if all the pieces would be bite size. Some were huge, others bite size. The wings were great, you get that smokiness as soon as you take the first bite. Pulled pork was ok, nothing that was outstanding and I thought it would be better since this was a BBQ place. Beef Brisket was good, above average but again it needed something to take it up a notch. Devil's Elbow is one of the places in Vancouver that has been on my to-do list for years, but that I had never been to, until now. The first thing I noticed years ago was that it had the same name as Howe Sound's Devil's Elbow IPA -- a beer that I love. I was happy to find that they have a large selection of taps, which is great for Untappd badge addicts, like myself. Food 5/5 -- The food is seriously spot on. Especially their happy hour. I highly recommend the brisket quesadilla. I'm not a fan of quesadillas normally, but I was sold on the brisket. No regrets. Also here's a tip: unfold the quesadilla and put their badass salsa on as a spread. Way easier to deal with that way. On other visits, the rest of the food was on point as well. Also, one of the biggest and best rotating beer lines in downtown Vancouver. Service 3/5 -- Mixed bag with service. Mostly good, but sometimes inattentive. Also, the server on three occasions hovers between disinterested and enthusiastic, which is a little weird. Atmosphere 4/5 -- Love the atmosphere inside. It falls under what I would call nouveux southern chic. BUT. I'm not a huge fan of the patio. I will add, it's nice that they actually have a patio, but this one is in a wind tunnel, and also is not well covered. Unfortunately my gf always wants to sit on the patio, otherwise I would prefer to sit inside. Cleanliness 5/5 -- No complaints here. Nice to find a place where I can take a leak in comfort. Everything looks spic and span. Overall 4/5 -- This is easily one of my favorite places to eat and drink. They have a huge beer list, which is great for Untapp'd addicts. read more

I came here yesterday with a friend. First of all, what kind of bar doesn't have olives/olive juice for a dirty martini?!!? Anyway, they offered me the Vesper and it was good. However, the food is quite unfortunate. I ordered the pork rib solo platter with mac and cheese and tater tots. The ribs were dry and not tender, at all. The flavour was decent. The mac and cheese was too al dente and had no flavour. The tots were good though, but it's hard to screw up tots. The service was nice and friendly though, but I do not think I'll be coming back to this place for food. Update: Apparently you can't leave a negative review of this place, despite mentioning some positive aspects, without this man (whoever he is) being super offended. The only good thing about this place is that the beef brisket is tasty and it's close the BC place for pre hockey or concert eats. I arrived at 4:45pm to snag a table as no reservations are taken. There was a man behind me when I walked in. The guy who greeted talked straight at the man, right over me. At least the man said I arrived first. We were both shown tables by the kitchen. Strike one. Took 10 min before the waitress came by. She actually greeted a 3rd table before me or this other man and they JUST sat down. The man joked that I picked the better table since I got served before him hah but I said at least she didn't spill water all over his face unlike she did to me. Strike 2! Even though my dining partner didn't arrive until 5:40, no one checked on me between 5:10-5:40. I kind of wanted to order an appetizer but didn't get a chance to . That was pretty much the end of it for me. As for food, ordered nachos with beef brisket. It was pretty cool, big portion and didn't skimp on the meat. Also had the Cobb salad. Nothing to write home about. Won't be back unless I have no choice. I'd rather go next door to Chambar and pay more for better service by far. Plus... no happy hour on event nights!! FYI! BBQ? Yes please! I was hoping for Louisiana/Cajun inspired dishes but this place was a complete failure. Tried their Pork Back Ribs which tender as they may have been lacked the taste of BBQ (the grill & the sauce). The sides we had were the mac & cheese and coleslaw. Sadly the sides were disappointing as well. Cornbread tasted like it's been sitting around for days and they just popped it in the microwave. Best part were the pulled pork meatballs. My friends and I visited Devil's Elbow recently and really enjoyed my meal there. It's a small restaurant, with a few low tables, some high ones, and bar seating. It's rustic, cozy, and can get pretty lively, as it when we were there (just after a Whitecaps game). I ordered a daiquiri, and was really impressed with it. Delicious. So I ordered a second. My friends had beer, which they enjoyed. We then shared their smoked wings (definitely going back for those), and the BBQ platter for two, which was more than the three of us could finish, so two of us took home the rest. All of the food was really good, I was impressed. It can be hard to find good BBQ in Vancouver, but this was up there. I liked that they offered both Texas and Carolina style BBQ sauces are they are both very different. The service was friendly and attentive. I would like to give it 4.5 stars, because it was really close to being perfect! read more

Wine & beer were five dollars a glass and all of the small plates were between five dollars and nine dollars. My buddy and I walked in here to get the insider scoop on restaurants. We were just next door, and that place's limited menu let us down. This bar has an extensive selection of whiskey. The waitress was very friendly and helpful. She took the time to talk to us for a good amount of time, told us about must-see places in town, and recommended a drink to us. Their bourbon is indeed very good. We just had a shot each, as we were running on empty stomachs, and we were pacing ourselves. Came by for some alcoholic goodness. This place is the former site of Chambar, which moved a few doors down. Parking here is horrendous - try to take the SkyTrain here instead. The inside definitely has that trendy hipster feel we've all come to love on the West Coast. Right down to the feel-good name of the place. The seating area is one long bar area, as well as a larger room in the back, and a special VIP lounge with its own separate bar. Staff were friendly and easygoing. Always a nice thing about most hipster places. The beer selection is quite decent, with craft beers taking the centre stage. I tried the Sky Pilot Northwest, and it wasn't bad at all. They also have a house brew available. I also tried the yam fries, and they were fresh and crispy. The place was nice and chill, and quite quiet on a Monday. We had just arrived in Vancouver after a long flight and were starving. Our server brought me a wilted Caesar salad and after recommending the grilled chicken to top it off with, she brought really strangely seasoned chicken which was disgusting and inedible. My daughter had some and thought it was sort of yuck but edible but acknowledged that it was the weirdest pairing with a Caesar salad. She did enjoy her gluten free friend chicken. We did not see the waitress again during the meal and we were dying for water and I needed to get the taste out of my mouth. When she brought the bill there was a ridiculous additional charge for the chicken and I had politely asked if she'd remove it. Now some background here, I NEVER send food back but would've here because this seemed like a bad joke. I would never serve this at a restaurant. This was really gross. She said it was Cajun chicken and I mentioned that I'm familiar with Cajun chicken having lived in New Orleans for several years. Then she said well you are in Canada so what did you expect? I think I expected a fresh, edible meal and decent service? She then skewed up her face and said in the snottiest tone imaginable, 'and we all know you ate a good portion of that chicken' though we were staring at the mound of chicken heaped on the side in front of us. I couldn't believe it! I went in side and asked to speak to manager and this same waitress said she was the manager. I said that surprised me because I couldn't believe anyone in restaurant management would be so profoundly rude and attempt to humiliate their guests in front of their children. She then apologized and took off the charge for the chicken, but we had just arrived in Vancouver and it really sunk our spirits to be treated so poorly. I'm pleased to tell you that every other dining experience in Vancouver was pleasant and it was simply this horrible server and this ridiculous excuse for a salad that was an inadequate representation of that lovely city. read more

This place is a cool spot to hang out with friends and they have separate area at the back of the pub where you can book for private parties or event which where we were, You have your own server and I must say the service was awesome. Good selection of beer & wine. This pub is known for their smoked brisket and they were delicious . The only thing is that I wish their portion can be more substantial. read more
