Came here because it was close to my cousins house and ended the night having a glass with my server! We had passed by this spot so many times but couldn't figure out the name since the large sign says drug store. They were fairly busy when we came but we were still able to be immediately seated outside. We got two pastas, liver and sardines. The portions are VERY generous. You can taste that everything is made in house and fresh. The service was fantastic. In true Italian fashion, they really treat you like family here. So frankly this review is for their gelato. And for this gelato you will come from California, Idaho, New Mexico and Alaska. It's that good . Quietly hidden in a residential block inside of a former drugstore, Locanda was truly a delight in all aspects. We were dining early on a Sunday, so we did not need a reservation, which was nice, but while we were there, the place filled up quickly, so I would highly recommend doing your homework and booking ahead of time, just in case. The service was efficient, but I was relieved that we were specifically asked about how we wanted the timing of our courses, so it felt neither overly rushed (like in a typical American restaurant) nor too slow. As for the food and drink, we were quite happy. The first thing we noticed was that there was a very large selection of Negronis offered on the cocktail menu, so my dining partner ordered one of those while I enjoyed the mushroom martini. Hints of fungus and rosemary combined nicely with the traditional crispness of a cold, dry gin. From the daily special menu, we ordered the burrata with red peppers and artichokes, and I don't think I've had better burrata outside of Italy. The complimentary bread and olive oil served as a perfect vehicle. Also from the daily special menu was the chitarra (guitar string) pasta with sardines, and it indeed did play a melody of flavor. We followed that up with the branzino from the regular menu, which was perfectly cooked, flaky and tender, and quite tasty. Along with our after-dinner espressos, the real honorable mention of the evening was the gelato of the day, which on this day just happened to be "chocolate-orange-cardamom." This is an upscale neighborhood spot, tucked away on the corner of two residential streets. The food is excellent, the service is great, and the interior of the restaurant is really, really cool. Absolutely decadent! My partner has been raving about this restaurant and we finally got to go together. We started with the prosciutto which was a first time for me as I just recently started eating meat. It practically melted in your mouth! Rustic Italian Restaurant with homey ambiance~ I am not the biggest fan of Italian food, but I really loved the Ai porcini (mushroom pasta) and the grilled duck breast. The Ai porcini was made with fresh pasta and mixed wonderfully with the flavors of the mushrooms. The grilled duck breast was perfectly tender - this was definitely the favorite among my friends and me. Lastly, the tiramisu was decadent but not too heavy and not too sweet - the perfect end to our meal! The service was fast and attentive. Came here a few years ago, I had a Ragu that was delicious. Hate to leave 2 stars, but our meal was disappointing. COCCOLI E PROSCIUTTO: The ham was tasty, but those are 4 very thin slices with a small piece of cheese for $25. And dumplings. TAGLIATELLE AL TARTUFO: Well cooked, good flavor. This is one of the first places I went to when I moved to Brooklyn, and I consistently find myself taking my friends from out of town here when they come. The restaurant is an old drugstore that was converted and also provides groceries/fresh ingredients for pickup. The staff is kind and amazing. It's definitely best to get a reservation as the place does get really packed. Food-wise, I love all of the pasta. They rotate some of the offerings, but my favorite has to be the pappardelle that they sometimes have with a wild boar ragu and sometimes with a rabbit sauce. The lasagna is also great and fresh and a good choice for vegetarians. I am not the biggest fan of asparagus, so I didn't love that part, but the other flavors were good. The grilled duck breast is FABULOUS. It's tender and juicy, and I love the shallot marmalade on the side. I did have a lamb shank here once when it was on the menu, and I didn't love that, mainly because I am not the biggest lamb fan. Drinks-wise, I love all of their wines. Their spritz selection is vast, but I think a little too sweet for my liking. This place is a gem for Tuscan Italian food. First, make sure you get reservations, specially if it's over the weekend as it tends to get quite busy. The service was great! Super helpful and very respectful. We easily stayed two hours here and could have stayed for an extra hour if we didn't have an upcoming commitment. With the food, where do I get started? We got the fig and Gorgonzola salad and sformato as appetizers. Both were delicious. The Gorgonzola cheese in the salad was perfect. For mains, we got the alla checca pasta dish which was light for a summer day, but the highlight was the Branson's al cartoccio. The sea bass was very well cooked and the fennel was delicious!! We ended the night with the chocolate tartufo and it definitely was the highlight of the night. If you like chocolate and hazelnuts, you will not be disappointed! Friends and I came here for an early dinner on Saturday and the place was pumping! Seems like a real deal neighborhood spot and the best part is the food was fantastic. Our waiter was very lively, the music was great and the food brought it home. I highly recommend this spot if you're in the area. This is a down to earth, well executed Florentine/Tuscan restaurant. Here's what we ordered: - Polpo :: executed perfectly, the octopus was tender and the chickpea puree accompanied it nicely - Alici Al Burro :: anchovies + butter + bread... divine. An extremely simple dish that is executed well. The bread here reminds me of the same style of italian bread you get in Firenze, so the anchovies are the highlight here - Pici E Salsiccia :: eggless pasta and you wouldn't even know it! The ragu was superb and the pasta was cooked to perfection al dente - Grilled Duck Breast :: Not my favorite dish, but it was tasty and I really enjoyed the chick peas that came with it. The duck was a bit dry and could've used a sauce, the fig & shallot marmalade was interesting, but I would've liked this more with a demi-glace of sorts If you live in Manhattan, you can probably find 2-3 other restaurants that are quite similar in style, quality and price but in this part of Brooklyn I'd say it's a small step above, quaint and cozy read more

I'm not sure what is happening at this restaurant. I've been here two other times before, once with the friend whose birthday it's was, which is why she booked it to celebrate her birthday this year and another time with a large holiday party of about 12-15 people. Both times, the service was excellent and the food was great. But today was something far less impressive. We were a small group of 7 with a pre-fixed menu and somehow the food was mediocre and the service was beyond awful. My friend, who was celebrating her birthday, apparently went back and forth with the staff at the restaurant to get the appetizer, entree and desert menus all set. But the server, who might even be a manger just seemed to give her a hard time at every turn. The main course that she was looking forward to did not meet her expectations and she asked to exchange it for another entree, that was a problem. They brought out a desert she didn't have on her menu so she asked for what she was paying for, and that was a problem you could literally hear him complaining in Italian. He was aggressive when folks tried to give him a drink order because he was clearing the table. Then when it was time to close the check, he just dropped it and went away. She had put a card on file and thought all had been taken care of so she walked outside. He then came outside and rudely asked for her card to close the check. It was all just way too much and I'm not one who complains at a restaurant but this was too much. I wish I could say it was because they were super busy and he was in the weeds but I don't think that was the case. Maybe he was just having a bad day but he was being a total dick in a way that has made me say I will never go back. Another friend and I even called out the service and said we wouldn't return and he said "good". It was beyond ridiculous. Whatever is happening there, they need to address the situation with this server (manager) before the neighborhood decides it's no longer worth it to go there. read more

This is an adorable restaurant that used to be a pharmacy back in the day and they've kept a lot of that old world charm about the place. Sometimes it feels like you've stepped back in time. I tried to get some pictures to show how cute it is but they didn't do it justice. Staff are very friendly and attentive and the wine by the glass is a generous pour. Always a win in my book! Now to the food: seemed like the most popular dish is cacio e pepe which they serve out of one of those big cheese wheels. We did not try it because that's just a wee bit too much cheese for me. But the couple next to us both had it and cleaned their plate. We had the Gorgonzola salad with figs which was tasty, the pomodoro (stewed tomatoes dish) which I loved, and then the Al Tartufo which is the pasta with the truffles. All very generous helpings but I have to say (and I never thought I'd ever complain about this) but I think it was too truffley. Is there such a thing? Yes there is. Our pasta came absolutely covered in truffle shavings that was too much for one dish. I know how expensive they are so it seemed like a waste as I don't think we even ate half. We've lived a block from this place for a year and a half and FINALLY made a reservation after walking past their cute setup every day. They only have outdoor seating right now. It was a bit of a chilly night and they sat us right on the corner so we had some wind, but it was fine. For apps, we ordered the mozz and prosciutto and fig and Gorgonzola salad. Both were yummy and there was plenty for the three of us plus leftovers. For drinks, we had wine and a classic Negroni. The Negroni was nice and refreshing. Then for entrées, we had the lasagna, tagliatelle, and gnocchi. My lasagna was delicious, with just enough basil and a nice crusted top. The host seated us instantly because of our reservation and the server was full of life. You can tell when people enjoy what they do, and it can definitely be said about the staff here. The owner's attitude went from warm to extremely cool once we declined to order wine, and he refused to allow us to order our main dishes separate from ordering the appetizers. I thought that we could use the items we wanted for the pre-fixe but it turned out to be a family style meal of entrees and items of the chef's choosing. One of my friends had severe dietary restrictions so we were able to choose most of what we wanted to eat but what the chef did choose was not amazing. Everything was good but I did not feel anything was spectacular. The restaurant used to be a drug store so outside the sign says drug store rather than the restaurant name and I almost walked past it. Inside, the decor is cute and quaint. It is dimly lit and seems good for a date. It can get quite loud though. My favorite was the steak and duck with my least favorite being the calamari and fennel salad. read more

This is an excellent restaurant serving classic Tuscan food. High quality ingredients and simple, honest cooking. My wife and I recently went with our almost two-year-old daughter. The staff was so accommodating - nothing was a problem. We felt very welcomed. The staff even took our stroller and kept it in the back of the restaurant. We enjoyed our prosciutto, mozzarella di buffala, and our daughter loved the fresh baked Tuscan bread. The tagliata here is also delicious - reminds me of a classic tagliata I would get in Italy. At the end of the meal, the staff was kind enough to bring our stroller to the front of the restaurant, just outside the entrance door, and everyone at the restaurant was very sweet with our daughter. I came here with a friend for dinner. This used to be an old apothecary and all the woodwork is the same, the small little drawers and the ladders. They also kept all the items they found during the renovations under the front counter as well as the old register. The food is northern Italian and I had the gnocchi with mussels, my friend had the duck. I would recommend both, I think I liked the duck more, but it really just depends on the mood you are in. They make good recommendations for the wine as well. The service was really good, they were not constantly hovering but made sure wine and water glasses were filled. The manager Rocco came over and spoke to us as well, friendly person, and very involved in the restaurant activities. It's good for a date night but make reservations. 3.5 stars: had a nice early weeknight dinner here. It's cozy inside and the folks working there are quite hospitable and happy to let you take your time and enjoy the food, drinks and company. The plum negroni was a fun twist on the usual, and though I probably wouldn't have more than one at a time, it was pretty good - just needed a quick stir before serving to make it colder. As for the food, we had a pretty minimalistic dinner, just two plates of pasta (the funghi and the buttera) and of course, the complimentary bread. Neither were mind-blowing but I liked the crispy bits of guanciale in the buttera, and the fact that it tasted like a carbonara but with tomato as well. A good option for when you can't decide between the a carbonara/cacio e pepe or a tomato-based pasta. I'd had lots of bread in my travels to Northern Italy so I knew not to expect the tastiest of bread, but I can at least say that it was fluffy and fresh tasting.
