We like to come get for lunch and after work because we live the food. When we came after work for our inaugural Friendsgiving, everyone was excited to get together, but what did it for us was the fact that they put every item we ordered (group) on one bill and they said they couldn't separate the bills. The food here was actually pretty good. Our family members took us here on a Friday night around 11pm after a late night out. They started us out with complimentary chips and salsa. It was late and I was more sleepy than hungry. I decided just to share a taco salad $15.95 with the hubby. His family members decided on the steak fajitas $29.95. The steak fajitas looked delicious. It came out on a sizzling platter. I really liked our taco salad. It was huge and loaded with ingredients. The taco shell was light and crispy. We had good service. Not to sure on what my servers name was, but regardless the food was good, and the service was good up until I asked my server for a side of sour cream, and in return he brings out a side of jalapeños, and when I told him I asked him for sour cream he was very adamant that I said jalapeños. I even tried to deescalate the situation by saying there must've of been a misunderstanding, He then instead of acknowledging his mistake, he then proceeded to give me an attitude with a nasty tone and say "uh no jalapeños and sour cream sound completely different, insisting I said jalapeños. Keep in mind my girlfriend was right next to me and reinsured me I said sour cream. That was probably some of the most absurd reaction by a server I have ever had. The service was horrible!! First time at this place on May 9th. Our waiter never came back to see if we wanted more drinks or to check on how the food was, he said he was bringing us more chips and we never saw him again until we had to ask someone to have him bring our bill. I've been here many times over the years. Loco's is a downtown Detroit and Greektown institution. One thing I'm happy about is that they haven't gotten sloppy over the years. This is still a good place to eat before heading out for an event or a night in the town. I ordered the beef chalupas. In case it isn't clear from the menu, "beef" = ground beef. I'm usually not thrilled with that, but this is very lean ground beef. Not a lot of flavor, but not bad. The chalupa shells were nice and crispy, and also not greasy. The rice is good, and the refried beans are excellent. There are only a handful of times in my life when I have said that about refried beans. These had a smoky quality, and I ate every bit of it. Seriously. I can't remember the last time I did that with refried beans. The guacamole is very simple, just how I like it. The place was absolutely jammed because there was a big Detroit Lions game later that evening. But, the service was good. And, the prices were reasonable. I waited on a server in a pretty empty restaurant. I had to flag someone down for napkins because no one checked on me after the food came. The quesadilla was so greasy the tortillas were wet and I had to try to dry them with a napkin. A man who wasn't my original waiter gave me my bill in the middle of me eating and kept asking me to pay it before I finished. Not sure if he was profiling me because of my race but it was off putting. I asked for a lemonade and chips to go with my leftover queso and he said it would be $3 extra for each even though the waitress told me the lemonade came with free refills. He said their queso doesn't come with chips. You get one small basket with salsa and that's it. Came to Loco's with my sisters, mom, daughters and sister in laws for a casual ladies evening out. The food was nasty. The fajitas were burnt, the Spanish rice was gooey and the beans were runny. Everyone said their food was nasty. My sister ordered a margarita and it was $18 which she didn't know because they don't advertise their drink cost. She went to the bar and asked why was it so much and they said your server bought you the larger one (Shady). Also, they never informed us that they couldn't slit the bill until the end which had us scrambling for cash. They have an atm but the cost to withdraw was $5. The bartender (who has been my server for the past several months) continues to move at a snail's pace, and generally seems to want to be anywhere else. When you dine in, you get chips and salsa. She never delivered. The food. I always order the same thing...three (3) soft tacos. Today, I get three shells with chicken. No lettuce. No tomato. (Actually, it was on the side.) I was so excited when I walked in for Cinco de Mayo to a fully decorated restaurant with sombreros being given away like I was on Oprah. But that was the only good part of my visit. Our server frequently walked past us and got a couple of orders wrong. The drinks were bland and weak, and it's hard to hide the taste of tequila. Food was OK and they are very generous with the chips and salsa. Salsa is fresh. No draft beer at this time. My wife ordered a small nachos and they brought a large.
