I finally got to visit Oaxaca after plenty of coworkers and family have been recommending it to me! Oaxaca is located in a small corner plaza in Troy so there is plenty of free parking. Inside there is a small amount of seating, a few plastic tables and bar high top seating. Now to the good part, the food! My table ordered the salsa verde which came with chips, a side of rice, a burrito, and 4 asada(steak) tacos. The salsa verde and rice were okay, I wasn't wowed so I probably wouldn't order them again. But, the main dishes were definitely stand out delicious! The tacos came with a yummy red hot salsa and the seasoning on the steak was great!The portions were HUGE!!! In my opinion this balanced out the higher cost compared to other taco joints in the area. Ordered take out on a Tuesday at 4:30pm and it was ready in 15 minutes! We got a California burrito (11/10 omg) rice (meh) pinto beans (meh) chips (meh) and horchata (11/10). $33.50. Excellent Mexican Street taco joint. For my first visit here I ordered two Asada (steak) street taco's that were very authentic and had only cilantro, both fresh cut and sautéed onions, fresh lime slice on the side, all on top of two fried corn tortillas. The meats was very tender & flavorful, veggies quite fresh and finished product very very tasty. As a cautionary note, the Salsa was probably a medium on the spicy scale and if you like your food mild you may want to ask for the mild salsa that comes with the chips. Other item of note here is the chips and salsa come gratis if you dine in where they were good but not quite at the level as the taco's which were over the top good! Relative to the restaurant and staff, the facility itself has a smallish footprint where there are just two tables and one very long counter with stools for indoor dining. My take of this is that much of the business is probably carryout. Staff was very friendly where you order your food at the counter and they bring it to you if you are dining in the restaurant. there was no table follow up at this point where it really operate as a quasi fast food joint which I was totally OK with, Overall really good food at a very reasonable price (2 steak taco's were $8) where the taco's are some of the best I have had in Metro Detroit. Oaxaca is top tier for authentic Mexican tacos (the pastor and chorizo are so flavorful! so addictive! so much better than anywhere else, by far!). It's my fave restaurant in Troy and never lets me down. Service is always nice and speedy. The location has a nifty mural and is kept clean. It's a must visit spot. Fast and fresh authentic Mexican street food. Service is great as well. We ordered a beef torta, chicken quesadilla, 4 asada (steak) tacos, 2 shrimp tacos, and a large guac with chips. Portions are pretty generous, and flavors are great. Their housemade tortilla chips are thick and crispy. However we like the guac could use some work...maybe more lime and more ingredients, and bigger portions? The large was barely enough for 2. But other than that, we really enjoyed our takeout! I have eaten at this small Mexican restaurant multiple times going back several years. I ate there twice recently. I'm vegan so I usually just order beans, guacamole, and chips and salsa. Today I had a large salsa which came with chips, but I needed more chips. I got one small refill of chips but still had some salsa left, so I requested a few more chips. I was told that they only give one refill on chips so I threw the rest of my salsa away. A few more chips to allow me to finish my salsa would probably cost them about a dime. I consider this very poor customer service. The staff is young and the server today is part time. She may have just been doing what she was told, but frankly she could have exercised a little discretion and common sense. The food I had at Oaxaca is simple Mexican food. It's pretty hard to mess up beans, guac, and chips and salsa. I was less than pleased that I was not given a few chips to finish with the salsa I had left, but the staff is young and I was unknown by the person who handled my order today. The ambiance is not much. It's primarily a takeout place with about two tables and a row of seats against the wall. It's terrible that when I came to the place the first time, but the nice thing is that I have gotten food here again. I got my brother in law hooked and it's the only Mexican restaurant in town that he goes to. I really enjoy their tacos whether it's chorizo, steak or pastor. My niece is obsessed with the rice which I also enjoy, but it's tough to say because I am just not normally a big rice eater in general. The guacamole is very delicious here, too.
