We recently went to Lodi Animal Services to visit a puppy named Domino, and I was not prepared for how emotional it would be. Domino is absolutely adorable. The sweetest little face and those speckled paws melt you. Holding him and seeing how gentle and loving he is made it really hard to walk away. At the same time, it's heartbreaking to see so many dogs waiting in kennels. You can tell they want love and a home. I honestly wanted to take them all home with me. The staff were kind and allowed us time to visit. The facility itself is simple, but the real story is the animals. They deserve families, warmth, and forever homes. If you're even thinking about adopting, please consider checking here first. There are some really special dogs waiting for someone to choose them. And Domino... My personal opinion is that this shelter is one of the best shelters in San Joaquin County. Their staff has always been very helpful towards me. I am a volunteer there and from what I have experienced everyone have been super nice and helpful. All the dog are great and I would recommend you adopt because even though some people think bad about things doesn't mean you should take it out on the animals because all the animals deserve a loving home to go to. read more

One of my dog's license is due tomorrow. I got her rabies shot last week.. so that I could get this taken care of. The letter that was sent to me said I could pay M-F 9:30-4:30.. so I left work early so that I could get there by 4:00-4:15. I arrived at about 4:12. As I walked up to the door, I read the sign that said 10am-3pm with an hour lunch break 12-1pm. They don't take online payments, which is another inconvenience. I am a supporter of Animal Services and appreciate what they do to serve our community; however I was highly annoyed at this change without notification. I kept telling my bf that I want to adopt a dog. He kept telling me no considering we already have a baby chow chow. Please, please! I was being a pest and on our way to Stockton , I mentioned that there was a shelter in Lodi we should check out . Still, no. But I begged and begged and he finally gave in . Yay! We arrived at 4 and immediately saw Catherine in the parking lot. She told us they were closed but took us in anyway. Upon entering the facility, I noticed how clean and well kept everything was. Definitely cleaner and less smelly than the shelter in sac . They separate the big dogs from the small dogs although I did see a random chihuahua at the big dogs section . Although we left empty handed, I'd definitely recommend coming here to adopt a pet. There are many dogs of different breeds which cater to everyone ! Closed every other Friday in each month starting with second Friday of each month for Furlough Days AND on the last Friday of each month... with this provision - if Rule #1 results in the situation where it coincides with the last Friday of the month... then the preceding non-Furlough Friday is designated as a Furlough Day... WHEW! Only a governmental organization can think of something this complicated. Whatever... This is the office you go to in Lodi to renew a dog's license if you don't wish to renew by mail. I had to renew the license for "Joe" ( media3.ct.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/--ruJoHmo1kc9VgnJS9NzA/l ). The fee for renewal of Dog licenses is $10 and it lasts until the Rabies Vaccination expires. After I paid the fee the receptionist asked if I needed a new Dog License Tag. Will it cost anything? No. Sure, why not! I explained to her that I knew where it was... it got sucked up a Wet-Vac... and I didn't want to open it up just to rummage through it for something as small as that. While waiting for her... there was a stack of animal cages at the front of the office - 4 high by 2 wide to hold small dogs and cats. The bottom right cage contained a small Chihuahua which barked like mad when I approached it. After the receptionist came back I commented to her that that Chihuahua would be hard to adopt with that attitude... she replied that it was adopted already and was to be picked up in 30 minutes. I called Lodi Animal Services on Kettleman inquiring about kitten adoption because I have been hearing on the news and seeing on the website they are maxed out and are going to start putting animals down. Their adoption rates are outrageous 100-180 $ for a kitten. I was telling the lady that in Tracy last month kittens were at $6 because they were full the witch told me then go to Tracy no discounts here. She was the rudest person I have ever spoke to at a shelter. If I could give them minus stars I would, it she should not be working at any shelter. read more

They don't return calls and they don't return emails. So we went there instead and they were rude and didn't want to help us at all. So I went to the Stockton animal shelter instead where we adopted our other rescue dog one year ago and had really nice people helping us out. This is definitely the oddest animal shelter we've ever been to. The parking lot is not only small but it's filled with cars that are not there to see animals. You're not allowed to see the animals unless you have an escort and you have to step on a disinfectant mat before entering. You're also not allowed to put your hand out to allow a dog to sniff your hand. The volunteer also said the dogs haven't been worked with to see how temperamental a dog is. I found their process to not be easy and so awkward. I've been to plenty of animal shelters and all of them are welcoming and inviting, easy to walk through and truly make it as friendly as possible to make it a great experience finding the perfect dog for your family, Lodi was simply not like that! I get processes in place for the actual adoption process but seeing the dogs and walking through should just be a nice easy experience. read more

Have lived in Lodi whole life.. been there twice and was treated like I was going to visit an inmate.. I had saw a dog they were walking outside that interested me , I stopped and talked to the "lady" holding the leash.. she was sooo rude! Not even a smile or a comeback tomorrow and see them her lil crew of volunteers had to pipe up with their little rude remarks. It took everything not to set them in their place. It seems like they will take any volunteer and let them talk to any potential customer and I see a customer because they charge you an insane amount to "rescue" a dog there. The cats there seem to have the best facility clean and you get to walk in and see all them and it's all good. Do you want to see a dog now you got a problem and you better have a checkbook! I think it's probably the saddest thing and I would recommend going to the Stockton shelter or another place outside of Lodi.. and don't bother with the animal friends connection just as bad. I've lived here my whole life and I wouldn't adopt a dog out of this pound .. sad sad sad and they need to check their Volunteers alil better.. it seems like they will take anybody.. read more

Lodi Animal Services is a total disgrace! No wonder they can't take any more animals. Can't speak for the volunteers but service from the person you first come in contact with getting entry into view animals is disgusting. The man we encountered at their so called reception area (tho cramped quarters are somewhat unavoidable if the reason was lack of funds) but really, this man had no personality at all and should not be in that position even as a volunteer! Please do not waste your time or money adopting an animal from this shelter. The women at the shelter completely denied my mom a dog because they ASSUMED that the dog was to small for my elderly mom and that she might trip over the dog. After calling them to discuss with them that my elderly mom is more than capable of taking care of this dog they basically didn't care and would rather leave the dog locked up at the shelter then adopting him out to a loving home. Pretty much they discriminated my mom because of her age. How sad that this dog is still at the shelter. I guess they would rather have their dogs without loving homes. read more

Would give 0 stars if I could. Our dog was staying with a friend and he got out. They told us they couldn't license the dog under our name (don't know why even though he's OUR dog) so he was licensed under our friends name and we spoke with receptionist gave her our info, names, numbers, etc just in case it happened again. Well he got out again and we never received a phone call NOTHING. They adopted our dog out. & said they adopted him out "after closing" on the last day of the holding period. If your pet is here you better hurry and pick him up they will not hesitate to adopt them out to somebody else. read more

My girlfriend and I have wanted a dog for a while, so we decided to check this place out. The website is designed great and is easy to navigate. However, we sent in an application three weeks ago and have not heard back from them. My gf has called several times to get an explanation, which was that they are busy with other applications. Three weeks is too long to have not heard ANYTHING, we will be adopting else where. I wanted to adopt a dog my dog suddenly passed a year ago it was time for a new friend the lady was quite blunt and was pretty unsociable. I spoke with the manager was bluntly honest told him we had no fenced yard he said " oh no way". I told him I never let my dogs outside without fence he said absolutely not. I told him you have so many animals for adoption and yes the dog was full of energy but he has been stuck in that shelter for months and dogs act differently when adopted to a home their personality change I know as we adopted a dog from a shelter crazy fella he changed with disapline and obience training. I guess as a shelter they don't consider that shame on them. Plus we were willing to pay their $450 adoption fee. The supervisor said absolutely no. The tears we're running down my eyes knowing he would have a wonderful home with us and who knows how long the little fella will be sheltered. So many animals that need adoption breaks my heart. Left the shelter crying. They suggested other shelters oh no kidding like I am an idiot. I will return to Peninsula Humane Society 80 miles from here where we adopted our previous dog where they treated me with respect and understanding that I wanted a new friend and paid $120 not $450. Sorry but I suggest anyone looking to adopt and give an animal a new home and love do not wait your time at this shelter you may leave crying as I did. Just adopted a dog from here and EVERYTHING from beginning to end was PERFECT!!! These people just do it all to make sure you are happy. I first saw Braden a couple days ago and my moms birthday was coming up. Well you NEVER give a pet for a present without them knowing. I took her there she loved the dog I picked and we had to leave him and wait for him to be fixed. We pick him up from the vet at 4pm today. I just bought him yesterday. YAY!!!! They made sure my dog and her new dog got along and spent quite a bit of time making sure he was a perfect fit for us. On top of all that they were HUGE S.F. GIANTS fans. Always a plus. The price was EXTREMELY reasonable. He was clipped and chipped with shots and all done swiftly. I can't believe how wonderful they all were. PLEASE ADOPT FROM HERE!!! YOU WON'T BE SORRY. I tried to donate two Kirkland dog beds that are not torn or ripped. They wouldn;t take them. They said they were too flimsy and the dogs might rip them up. Wow!!!!! I never would have thought a shelter would turn away dog beds because they MIGHT get ripped up. I guess they think they would rather lay on the cold concrete. Soo sad! read more
