My family regularly travels to Lodi for my sister, and we spend time at this library, although we live an hour away. This Saturday, we were there, and I needed to use the bathroom very badly before we left. When we asked for the key (because they keep the key on a stick at the desk) we were told "Sorry, we close down the bathrooms 15 minutes before closing time." It was 10 minutes before closing as we were asking. As my husband, who already has a library card here was having one issued for our daughter, I came around to the other lady at the desk to ask again, as I'm visibly pregnant, and we have an hour drive home. I implored, "I'm pregnant, I have a baby sitting on my bladder." She didn't even respond. She's sitting there issuing my daughter a library card, but she can't make an exception and hand a pregnant woman a key to the restroom. It felt inhuman. So now, although it is otherwise a great library, I don't feel like supporting a place where policies like that supersede humanity and compassion. read more

There are lgbtq books sprinkled throughout the children's section with special rainbow labels on them just to make sure everyone knows what they are. Being a part of that community is one thing, but introducing sexual concepts to children is another thing that is inappropriate, no matter what you prefer in the bedroom. The fact that none of the librarians could tell me who to complain to I found very odd since I'm not the only parent who does not like sexual content mixed into kids books. It truly is sad that so many companies have dialed down the rhetoric but the Lodi Public Library is not concerned with protecting kids from sexual adult content. read more

I've visited the Lodi Public Library a couple of times and this place is great. The staff is super friendly and helpful. And they offer lots of services to the community. They have free internet and computers for the public. They offer California State Park Passes and i use them a couple of times a year. Definitely worth it. read more

Ah, the venerable Lodi library. Despite wacky hours, LPL mostly gets the job done. Nice job on the online services. If you have a little one you must check out the read to a dog program. Yes, a dog is trained to pretend to listen as they read. Great way to encourage kids to read. read more

Decently-sized library with the basics, but don't expect anything special service-wise. As others have previously stated, the WiFi here is hot garbage unless you're on a public computer, which is pretty frustrating. Gets the job done, but I can honestly say I've been to better libraries in San Diego. read more

My 6yo son really wanted to find "high school" books about jungle animals. The librarian was so helpful, kind & patient w/ my son as she found him the perfect books. The library is always clean & tidy and offers a lot of services such as homework help, reading w/ dogs, story time, etc. He also likes playing games on the computers. The wall murals are very nice & inviting, such a great touch to a very important establishment. I'm so thankful that our city has this lovely library!!! read more

Lodi Public Library is great. They have a ton of resources and the staff is always nice. The story time for kids is great and it includes a fun art project at least once a month. They have reading for children with a dog to encourage them to like reading more. How very sweet the lady and dog are that provide this program. My only issue with this library is the homeless people that tend to frequent here during the cold weather months. I don't mind that they are there. However, they don't follow the rules as to whispering in a library. In fact, they talk extremely loud and it disturbs the students that I work with. All in all, Lodi Public Library is great. Not many safe libraries exist. It's nice to have one in Lodi. read more

This library is not getting the credit it deserves! My family and I have been coming here since we first moved to Lodi about 8 years ago. My children have grown up attending the amazing programs put on by library, all of them absolutely free. The WiFi works just fine. Yes, all kinds of people from all walks of life enjoy the library, but the staff maintains a clean and safe environment. The staff has always been excellent. In one day alone, I saw one librarian picking up book after book thrown to the ground by an unattended toddler- she never said a word to the mother, just kindly put the books back. A second librarian smile as she's being grilled by a patron who didn't agree with the library's policy that you have to have a proof of address to get a library card. And a third librarian quickly finding books for another patron who wasn't sure where to find them. All in all, this is a wonderful library with a lot to offer our community and I just don't think it's fair to leave bad reviews for minor issues. read more

I really do love this library and have been going here off and on for the last 16 years. I absolutely love the Bookstore inside the library. They have some great finds and I have bought many books here as well as donated books and movies. The staff is great at this library and very helpful. On a sadder note: an incident happen here yesterday to my son. I dropped him off here yesterday morning for the day so he could study for his college classes. While he was at the library his wallet happened to fall out of his pants. Someone picked it up and stole almost all of the money he had in it except for $2 which was all the money he had left for the month and was going to use some of it to pay a bill that is due this month. I guess either the person who stole his wallet grew a conscience and returned it to the front desk or they took the money and dropped the wallet somewhere and someone else returned it. My son did not even realize his wallet was missing until me and my husband went to pick him up. We went to the front desk and they had the wallet. He went through it and everything was there but the money. I called the police dept. and had my son make a police report. Hopefully the jerk that did this will have the decency to come forward. I doubt it though. It seems that humanity is no longer a thing these days. Most people are just out for themselves and could care less who they hurt and how. I believe that you get what you give and Karma can be a rude awakening. Within the last year I have notice an abundance of homeless people hanging out at this library inside and outside now and most are pretty shady looking. I do not feel the safety here that I once felt. Shortly after the incident that happened to my son yesterday, I called and spoke to Yvette, I believe she is the Library supervisor and let her know what happened as well as my concerns. She said that I am not the only one who has mentioned concerns about the homeless problem here. She was very understanding and let me know that they are trying to get a security guard inside the library hopefully soon. At least maybe this will curb theft and other problems here. Just be forewarned to be aware of your surroundings and your property at all times while inside the library and the area around the library's front entrance and parking lot. read more

Have the nerve to tell me to put my purse on the ground (which I didn't nor was I going to do on that disgusting floor and it's an expensive $500 bag) when there are 5 other empty tables in just my view, but you're going to let the guy next to me play his music and videos on speaker? This review really saddens me. As a native Lodian, I was raised going to this library and I still remember the Children's Programs I saw here as a child. The female librarian with the distinctive lisp would put on puppet shows and read books and do crafts and I can still remember how excited I was to go there. All through school, I would utilize this Library and I remember in middle school and high school hanging out with friends there and studying. I remember the old cards where you had to look up your books by hand. I also took my own son for years to the Children's programs. Every week we would do activities and read there and then bring home as many books as we could carry, The last few years however, I have only been a dozen or so times. It's unfortunate that the library has turned into a daytime shelter for the homeless and a hangout for people to use free internet. The last 3 times I have been inside there has been a very smelly, obviously disturbed male, seated near the front talking to himself. Near the back I have seen people selling at the tables and I even walked in on a woman washing herself in the sink in the bathroom. I guess this is just as much a comment on society as it is the library itself. I am sure the staff do what they can, but I just don't feel safe there and I won't even take my little niece to story time anymore as the last time I was asked for money twice between the parking lot and the front door and that is not an exaggeration. I'm just sad that the days of good clean fun at the library and the excitement of being surrounded by literature have fallen into disrepair. With the technology they have now, I guess it won't be long before libraries are a thing of the past all together, and as much as I used to love this place growing up, I certainly wouldn't miss it now. read more

The Lodi Public Library used to be one of the many crowns of Lodi. Sadly, it has become now the homeless hub of the city. I had the unfortunate experience to be in the library about a month ago, I was dumbfounded by the total disregard of cleanliness and good behavior by some of its patrons. In the magazine section of the library I saw a homeless person snoring loudly, his nauseating body odor and the smell of booze emanating from him had saturated the entire magazine area. As if that wasn't enough, in the bathroom I saw another homeless completely naked washing his body. Imagine if a child would have gone in the bathroom? My complaint and protest to the library's staff availed me nothing. read more

The library is one of the cleaner public libraries in San Joaquin. The folks who work there are really helpful also. I go there for the "Friends of the Library" bookstore where you can buy books in really good condition usually for $1 to $2. And these are books that are actually good literature, not just the usual Danielle Steel type. It's a small room but surprisingly good selection of fiction. I've been going to the library since I was 5/6 and now I'm 18 years old. There is this "teen space" that they have going on which is great and all but teens barely even use it. That's not even the issue, what is an issue is the sign they have there. Apparently you can only go in there if you're from ages 12-18 and if not you have to bring in someone from that age group with you! I honestly have never been more annoyed. So you're telling me when I'm 19 I have to bring a child which me that first off I have no younger siblings! Or any nieces of nephews! The library should be for everyone and adults who enjoy ya/ teen books should! It's not the libraries place to tell people what they can and can't read! Also to add in they put the graphic novels in there which FYI some of the graphic books aren't appropriate for children even teens! It's unfair and if a 30 year old wants to read a ya/ teen book let them! It's not any of your business what they want or don't want to read. read more
