Loft @ 150 East 42 Street in Murray Hill is near where I visit my friends. It's fun to shop here and grab lunch. It's a girls day out away from her kids. I have been shopping at this Loft for years. The clothes are stylish and suitable for the office look. The best thing about shopping here is Petite sizes. I can purchase pants and not have six inches extra length. Same for blouses with sleeve length. I like this location. Everyone that works here is nice. The store is always neatly organized. Fitting room has good employee oversight and is kept clean. read more

Today at the cash register 2 female employees tried to sell me more stuff when I asked them to take off a couple of items because I couldn't afford it. Then they tried to convince me to get a LOFT credit card. I said "no thanks, I don't want anymore debt." Then they tried to explain what a credit card is and how to use it. What am I? A kid? I cannot tell you how many times I politely said no. I'm disappointed that one of my favorite stores to shop in is no longer a place I want to visit. I was hoping this younger generation would value consent, because to me, no means no. If someone can't afford something it's not a green light for coercion. I'm sad this company is encouraging their employees to do this. Also why do all the cloth benches in the fitting rooms look like someone peed on them? I wouldn't want any of my clothes to touch them. This place keeps me winning. Loft is a chic comfy option for work and play and this location has been good to me. I am usually in the neighborhood about once a month because my daughter is training with Fresh Air Fund to be a counselor for the summer camp and I always pop in. The store is clean and very well staffed. Their are visible employees on the floor without you feeling hassled. There are about 5 registers that are also well staffed. The lines move pretty quickly (about 5 mins max) and the staff is pleasant. Merchandise seems to turn over rapidly but you can usually find a lot of new merchandise. The sale section is very big and that speaks to my heart. They have one of the best selections of new and marked down accessories, especially statement necklaces. That works for me. I use loft as the go to for such items to jazz up a basic tank and jeans outfit and kick it up several notches. I say dive right on in! read more

I just started a new job in the medical field. I was so excited to shop for a business casual wardrobe for my new career. I left work and stumbled upon this loft shop and went straight in with no hesitation because of the beautiful merchandise and displays that caught my eye. When I walked in I was not greeted nor was I assisted when I asked for help. I saw a pair of pants I liked but when I tried looking for my size the pants were falling off of the hangers. Everything was cramped together and I was unable to successfully find the size I needed. I asked the floor manager named Kela for assistance with retrieving the correct size. I asked Kela if she can help me find my size and she started scratching her forehead and put her head down slightly down as she walked to me. She told me all the sizes were out instead of helping me find my actual size. I explained to her that the pants kept falling and it was hard for me to find the pants I needed. I did not want to make a mess trying to find the correct size. I expected to get exceptional customer service from Loft employees but unfortunately she ruined my experience. Lisa was great and helped me feel better. I would not come back to this location and I honestly may second guess coming back to this shop all together. I also found a whole table filled with the pants I wanted and I was not directed there I found it on my own. The location is very convenient. I generally zip in and out with my friend. The store is very neat and tidy. The staff is friendly and helpful. I never dread stopping in. I can always go back to work on a Monday to tell my coworkers that I saw something nice from Ann over the weekend. This is a large LOFT store with a good selection of products and sizes. LOFT has good deals when they are having a sale, and they have sales so frequently that I refuse to pay full price here. If you buy something at regular price, chances are it will be 40% off next week. The store was crowded when I went at 6:30pm and the line to pay was long. Fortunately, they had enough people working, so it moved fairly quickly. read more

I used to come here a lot to get work clothes back when I was a poor, confused 23 year-old, just starting out in publishing. But I would end up getting bored of those clothes with a quickness and end up either trashing them or giving them away after a month or two. Loft designers choose maybe 4 or 5 colors per season, and everything in the store is confined to those colors only. Usually, they are completely unremarkable colors. This season, they're going Nautical Americana. Ew. When they do go out on a limb and put some detail somewhere, it is in the most unflattering place, like a teeny pocket right on the boob. For the past two or three years, the Loft's thing has been surplice tops. Every season. Surplice tops. But if you actually have boobs, you can't wear them. It's all very boring. But I keep walking in there, on some Barack shit, hoping for change. They do get an extra star for being one of the first chain stores to increase sizes on the rack so bigger women are not relegated to other stores, like "troubled" kids sent off to special schools. Alas, the clothes here look a lot like the unfortunate offerings at plus-size stores: homogenous, unflattering, unfabulous and boring. read more

I have to admit, most of the stuff at ATL is hit or miss (emphasis on miss), but man when it hits it hits so damn good. Anyway, pretty sure ya'll know what Ann Taylor Loft clothing looks like*, so no need to explain any further here. The four star review is mostly for Lauren who helped me pick out two romantic cardigans, a pair of work pants, and a pair of black tights all for slightly under $150. She really knew her stuff, was excellent at figuring out my size, and suggesting clothes that really fit me well. She was also 100% professional, not too ditsy or over enthusiastic. Maybe a little pushy in getting me to sign up for a ATL credit card, which i did, but whatevs.. no bigs. Honestly, for 20 minutes of my life today, it felt like I had a personal shopper or something. *Though, if you don't, make sure you physically go to the store to check it out. The website can be very misleading. Consider yourself forewarned. read more

This Loft location is huge and has it all! I love the Petite section and the staff is so attentive and helpful. I've gotten a couple professional clothing items and a lot of casual (yet chic) things. The Loft is near my work place so I pass by it a lot. I like the store,clean & organized but last week when I was there it seems the employees were more worried about putting "sales tags" and talking w/ each other than helping me. I have though been in here when the staff was overly helpful so who knows, as any retail store....it is a shot in the dark and you just have to pray you find someone who knows what customer service is. There are many ways of getting coupons online, magazines & I wouldn't shop here without one, as for example I brought a dress that was over $100 dollars but had a coupon for $25 bucks off (salesperson seemed annoyed by this) and still it was a overall a $220 dollar purchase for 3 items. Very bad customer service. The manager ( I guess?!) Tulli didn't accept my return with tags and receipt because I didn't have my passport with me. She didn't take my international drivers license - with which I can rent a car, check-in to a hotel etc. It is good for making purchases at any store, but she wouldn't take it for a return with receipt. The really bad part is that when I returned some other stuff she didn't ask any questions. All of a sudden, they made up a rule and became very rude. This also shows that they have no processes and rules. And I have made so many returns in my life, noone asked for a passport! Ann Taylor Loft, you are trying really hard with your redesign to be a better brand. But please educate your employees first. read more

I mentally steel myself against the urge to buy new things, but the window displays of Ann Taylor Loft beckon! They promise brightly colored, prim miss clothing that calls out to my inner Soccer Mom. But I never pay full price for something at Ann Taylor Loft. Why? Because patience is rewarded, grasshopper-san. Whatever it is that I want is bound to be marked down in the coming weeks. I'm a fan of ATL accessories but have noticed that the quality of the clothing can vary. I have one word. LEO!!!! No, I'm not talking about astrology. I was in a huge bind (24 hours to find an outfit for a networking event). I popped into LOFT. Was greeted by 2 employees - described what I was looking for and within 5 minutes, Leo found the PERFECT outfit! And then to top it off, while I was in the dressing room, he came back with an adorable dress that also fit perfectly! As someone who hates to shop (I know, am I the only female in NYC to admit that?) Leo made the experience pleasurable and efficient. He's got a fabulous sense of style and he can read people's styles and personalities pretty quickly too. Trust me, he is on to greater things soon. I just hope he is still working at LOFT when I return in the near future! read more

Ann Taylor Loft is right up the street from my office, as is a Gap. Last week, I tore my shirt in the middle of the day and needed to do an emergency shop. I stopped into Gap first (it's closer), grabbed maybe ten shirts I liked, and none of them worked. A little disheartened, I continued up the block to the Loft. I grabbed another ten or so tops, but lo and behold, this time I was choosing between four or five I liked (I left with three). It's not the world's most exciting clothing store, or the height of fashion, but if you aren't stick-thin and you need something work-appropriate and comfortable, the Loft is a good bet. Prices are reasonable, service is friendly enough, and clearly for me it's a much better fit than Gap! read more

Oh, Loft, how I love you. I'm only slightly ashamed to say that 90% of my work attire comes from Loft (I'm kind of like a walking billboard Monday through Friday) but there's good reason. Loft is the only place I can run into, I'm talking 15-20 minutes tops, and come out with 5+ work appropriate, reasonably priced (especially if there's a sale!) tops/pants/etc. that I actually like. I'm not usually too picky about which Loft I go into, but this is a particularly good one: nice-sized fitting rooms, nice employees and it's well laid out. read more

After taking a hiatus from this place for a bit I can say I'm back to my old shopping ways! Their clothes became so drab at one point, they couldn't rope me in on their best sale day. However, after a renovation and a major design change in the clothing dept. it's back to being one of my faves. Love, love, love their petite section (short thing that I am :)) The dressing rooms are roomy and bright. The staff is always helpful and very polite. This Loft location is one of my favorites. Large, well lit, plenty of large fitting rooms, and staffed with really friendly men and woman, I'm always able to find what I'm looking for here. On a quick spin around the area in between meetings, I may have inadvertently found myself here. Something about buy one sweater get one half off or some such siren song. Dorris was ON IT with regards to helping me out and customer service, but do they get a commission? The woman at the register didn't ask if anyone had been helping me. . . I don't know that I've ever actually purchased anything from an ATL, though I pop in from time to time looking for work staples. I certainly found things this time around though, and shopped like I had just won the lottery. I haven't, so hopefully the ramen noodles I'll be forced to eat for a month don't play too much havoc on my waistline making me unable to wear the damn clothes anyway. One little gripe though was in trying to find a top in another size, the girl that went off to look was gone for ages and finally came back with the right size in another color as the best she could do. They just didn't have the one I was looking for. Until I wandered around hoping to find a second sweater (so I could at least have the vindication of getting what I went in for which was a DEAL damnit) and found an entire additional section of the tops, including the size and color I wanted. TERRIBLE customer service experience here. Walked into the store 10:30am Saturday morning with 2 other customers in store (one at register) . When an employee asked how she could help me and I said I need a gift card, she walked away and continued chitchatting. I then waited for 12 minutes for someone to ring up my gift card purchase. There were probably 6 employees in store and not one could bother to ring up my purchase. When I expressed my disappointment to the store manager, he blankly said he was sorry and walked away. If this store does not need business (while being devoid of customers on weekends) I'm happy to take my business somewhere else. read more

Sales reps fighting over customers, oh my..they must get some pretty good commissions for that kind of behavior - but it is NOT professional. In my opinion the clothes are over priced for what looks like cheap stuff made in China or somewhere (maybe sweat shops ?) The quality has gone down on their clothing in my personal opinion... I think WalMart has better quality, and from what I heard neither treats their employees very good. Marshalls has better quality (brand names) and better prices - but not sure how they treat their employees - that may be another story...anyone know? read more

The staff at LOFT is amazing. Gigi was a rare find these days, in retail. She was so helpful and knowledgeable. She bent over backwards to make sure I received a dress before I left for a long trip-- as a student. I trusted her advise on a size (I wanted to order a size larger and she insisted I didn't) and the dress fit perfectly. Everyone was exceptionally helpful. Thank you! read more

This particular LOFT location (42nd & Lex) is awful!!! They never have enough sizes and its always ridiculously crowded especially around lunch time. The staff is annoying and rude and slow behind the register is an obvious understatement. There is always a line half way up the store and now that they renovated the place its even smaller and makes it more crowded. I really love LOFT clothes, but I'd rather shop online or go to a different location than deal with the imbeciles at 42nd street. read more

The Loft website is the worst website! I called the website this AM I saw a coat that was on the website after calling the 800 number I was told by an associate that the FAUX TRIM COAT was in the Times Square Store ...and when I called they did not have this coat in the store they did not even know what color the coat came in and they were not even aware that this was on sale the Times Square Store. As for the website they have the dumbest people they hire they give false information due to not entering the right information into their database. This is why I do not shop there. When you walk into the store the general lame answer: Just what we have ...but you can go onto the website....I wasted 35 minutes this morning with the 800 number trying to locate a winter jacket with a run around of wasted time. If you go onto the website it is not any clearer the upper management and supervisors that work there are not any better either and are clueless. read more
