First off the outside is a little deceiving with the paint peeling off the ramp that looks like it could use some repairs. I only mention this because any trip hazard could be both devastating to that individual and/or that business. However once you are inside, the ambiance and service were wonderful. There were four of us that were traveling together. My husband and I had ribeye steak, cooked as I like, and pan fried trout which he enjoyed thoroughly. Our friends had lighter fares that they too enjoyed. We skipped dessert because we were all full with our meals. By far our queen prime rib was one of the best we have ever had. The cut was generous, the seasoning was wonderful, rich aus ju, tender. The petite filet mignon was terrific too. Both cooked to perfection at medium rare. The lighting was soft and romantic. Even though the tables were full the noise level was low, light music in the background. We could talk easily. It's been a while since I've been to the Log Cabin. Nothing has changed, it remains an excellent place for a tasty home cooked meal. I got the chicken parm, chicken was tender, red sauce yum and the pasta cooked to perfection. For an appetizer I chose the French onion soup, wow! The service has always been so great. Everyone that has ever waited on us has been charming and very attentive. This is such a special place to go and eat. We've been to a fair amount of great restaurants, this one is top notch! Decent food, but extremely salty. No particularly healthy options. On its own, the cheesesteak was pretty good. But since I didn't order a cheesesteak, but was given one instead of the chicken sandwich I *did* order - and charged the higher amount when I said I'd just keep it so I didn't have to wait even longer - I'm really not sure how to rate it all. We were up for Dickens weekend. A group of us came here for dinner Saturday night. It wasn't very busy. We were seated and the waitress came over. We ordered our drinks and we're served water. So far so good. She came back to take orders for appetizers. Two people ordered and she turned and walked away from us as I was trying to order. I didn't want an appetizer I wanted the onion soup. When she came back I was able to order. She also then took our dinner orders Apps came out. The clams casino were good according to the person who ordered them. The mozzarella sticks were not good because they were warm, not hot and the cheese wasn't melted inside. The onion soup was absolutely disgusting. The broth wasn't dark and beefy looking or tasting. The color looked like dishwasher. I'm not exaggerating. There was no flavor at all. The onions which should have been thin and soft ( sautéed) were big and hard as if they were just tossed in and not cooked. And it wasn't hot. Lukewarm at best. I love onion soup but this abomination was awful. Honestly Campbell's would have been better. The others had vegetable soup that came with their dinners. They said it was good but lukewarm also. One of the persons in our group very politely told the owner and she didn't respond. Nothing. She just glared. A few of us ordered steaks. I and one other ordered the Delmonico steak. I will say it was the only good thing about dinner. It was a huge piece, cooked to perfection, tender and delicious. I had the mushrooms with it and they were great too as was the baked potato. I didn't care for the way that we were offered only a baked potato or sweet potato or fries or vegetables. You couldn't get a vegetable and potato. The others said their main courses were very good too. The other complaint I have is that they don't give a dinner salad. I've NEVER not had a salad with dinner when out. I guess they're being cheap. No one bothered with dessert so I can't comment Will we all go back again? In my opinion it's not worth it to have tasteless lukewarm food. We've been eating here every time we take our RV to Pennsylvania. Our most recent visit was on 08/22/23. I've read some negative reviews regarding other's experience here. I must say that I totally disagree. The staff couldn't have been more friendly or courteous. The service was stellar. And, the food was prepared perfectly. Went to dinner Friday 5/31 and it was great. There were 10 in the party we did have reservations. We were seated right on time. Our waitress was over right away to get us all started. This was a recommended spot for dinner so we thought we had to try it out. I think we had the right expectation given this is a smaller town with few options. I would say this place landed right at the 3-3 1/2 star rating as it is rated. I love Yelp! Anyhow, there are large portions for the steak and especially the Prime Rib. Our prime ribs were cooked perfectly and were delicious. The sides were fairly standard for a place like this and not on par with the city/large town based steakhouses. I would also note that they do run out of various items as you read about in the reviews. When we were there they were out of one of the Steak specials but I think it was a blessing in disguise since we later found out the steak was ground sirloin. :-) What did stand out was the Waitress/Service. She had an incredible table side manor and really made our visit and dinner a stand out. She made recommendations throughout the meal and she was very attentive in terms of checking with us, cleaning, etc. She was genuine in her approach and lended credibility to everything she offered up through the dining. I don't know that we would go back and seek the place out, nor if we are in the area whether we would choose to do a "repeat". read more

Had Friday night reservations for a group of 6. The restaurant was pretty full but our service was friendly and relatively fast. I had a craving for prime rib but our waitress came back to tell us they were all out. We were given bread rolls, corn bread and cole slaw while we waited for our meals. All of bread came at room temp and the cole slaw was nothing special. My second choice as my entree was a Delmonico steak, medium well with a baked potato. The steak was a huge portion and cooked as requested. Other meal choices such as fish, chicken parm were well received. However, one dining partner let the waitress and manager know that her chicken dish was gristly and overcooked. They took a few dollars off that meal. My wife's meal was pretty good, as were the dinner rolls, cornbread, slaw, and clam chowder that were brought out before the main course. However, the beer on tap(there was only one) was flat. I ordered the Delmonico steak and was served a sirloin. what a disappointment that was. I got the mac and cheese as a side but didn't eat it because the past was so overcooked and mushy. She realized we were all Hispanic and refused us service. Told me she had reservations booked and pointed at a book that the pages were blank. She CLEARLY refused service because we were Hispanic. As a Police Officer of 22 years who has served our Country with honor and integrity i am outraged by this behavior. You should revise your attitude and be inclusive to all communities. Very ordinary food and cocktails. Our experience was not at the level of many reviews. Their soup special was a macaroni tomato, but it came with the meal regardless. I ordered their French onion soup, which is supposed to be a house specialty, but they brought out the macaroni tomato soup as well. I don't get that. The onion soup broth was flavorless, the onions hardly cooked and still crunchy. Not even close to being caramelized. No salad or vegetables were available with our meal. I recommend making a reservation though, if we hadn't made one we would not have been seated that night, it was a Saturday evening. This has been our go to place for a nice meal for about 4-5 years during Wellsboro's Dickens Weekend. Knowing that this year was different due to COVID-19, we decided to eat here on Friday, December 4th with a reservation at 6 pm. The restaurant was slightly more than 1/2 full and it appeared that the total capacity to be seated was greater than the allowed 50% of capacity. What was definitely apparent was that diners were not being seated at least 6' apart. There were also at least 4 groups that came in during our time without masks and were allowed to be seated. We also noticed that they do not wipe the menus after each use. As for the service, we have had better. The server was nice but not exactly attentive. The restaurant itself has closed the salad bar due to the pandemic and not sure if they prices were adjusted accordingly since this was built into the price. Each person does get a plate with cornbread, roll and cole slaw. We asked what the soup of the day was (which was previously included with the salad bar) and ordered two cups. She never brought them and when our meals were served we asked to have them taken off our bill. She explained that it was included, which we didn't know, but that we should have reminded her to bring them. Guess it was our fault??? She did bring cups of soup as we were eating but at that point, didn't want them. Had we known they were part of the meal, we would have ordered appetizers. Towards the end of the meal we had placed our empty soda glasses at the end of the table wanting refills. The hostess/owner? took the glasses and never brought them back. She assumed we were done with them even though our meals were still in front of us. As for the food, my steak was good. My wife order the chicken alfredo. The pasta was good but the chicken was dry and not much taste. In all honesty with their attitude towards diner safety, can't say that we will be in a hurry to return any time in the future. read more

The first dinner we had was at the old antlers inn just down the road and it was the worst dining experience of our lives, so we didn't have high hopes for the little town of Gaines. Wow! Were we wrong! This place is fantastic! Seafood trio app: delicious. My prime rib: amazing, certainly one of the top 10 I've ever had. Yes, it was that good. Wife had the steak Alaska: it was so good I wasn't allowed to have a bite. Our server (her name escapes me) younger, curly blond hair (I think) and a couple of tattoos. She was fantastic! We wanted for nothing the entire night! We never order dessert because we try to watch what we eat but this place was soooo good we decided to get desserts to go. Lemon meringue pie was just like Grandmom used to make, pretty sure this place stole her recipe. Haha. Wife got some chocolate peanut butter thing, again, too good to share. If this place wasn't a 4hr one way drive for us it would be our new favorite place! Word to the wise..... get reservations. We tried to go the previous night (after our terrible "dinner" at old antlers) just to be turned away for no reservations. I was disappointed that my party of three was turned away at the door by the hostess because we didn't have a reservation, despite the fact that it was before 5:00 pm and most of the tables were vacant. Bug in our food. My husband ordered the mussels and scallops and was nearly finished with his dinner when he discovered a bug swimming in the broth. Obviously, he lost his appetite. Sadly, the waitress came and said that it certainly couldn't have happened in the kitchen and said she would get us our bill. They offered us a tour of the kitchen so we could make sure. No manager came to the table. The waitress seem to think that telling us that it didn't happen in the kitchen was some sort of consolation, and would make everything all better. To the customer who had eaten nearly all their dinner, this didn't solve anything. We expected much better from this restaurant where we had gone to celebrate our 25th anniversary. No manager came to make the situation better. We were camping at the PA Grand Canyon in Wellsboro, PA and were looking for a good place to eat for our "last night dinner." What a great restaurant seemingly in the middle of beautiful nowhere! The menu was interesting and varied, the prices reasonable, the food absolutely delicious! The owner, Dan (our bartender as we waited to be seated), recommended the Sicilian Seabass special...it was as delicious and mouthwatering as he promised!! Thank you Dan! The Inn had a relaxed and casual atmosphere and the waitstaff was friendly. We were by ourselves, but it seemed to be family and kid friendly also! Two of us went here on a Friday night in July at 8pm. There were only a few tables occupied, but we were told that without a reservation we would not be seated. The woman was very rude. She said she had a large party due in soon, but we counted seats, and they could have easily accommodated the two of us. We left and went to the Antlers next door, where we were told that many of their customers arrive with the same story. Just for fun, I called the Log Cabin and tried for a reservation. I got a similar story. I was surprised that at no point did the woman apologize or say she was sorry or suggest another restaurant. So on the phone, after she rebuffed my attempt to get a reservation without apology, I asked her if she was sorry. She seemed puzzled, and asked what I meant. I said, "I mean, are you sorry that you can't accommodate us?" And she replied, "Are you an asshole." I doubt I will ever attempt to go to this place again. It blows me away that someone in a service industry can be so utterly oblivious. My advice if you are considering this place: skip it and go to the Antlers next door. They took a 7 pm reservation for 10 and then yelled at 2 in our party who were at the bar ordering drinks because they need to get "this process moving because we're closing at 8 and I have to go". Never once did they tell us that when we made the reservation and when asked why they took us we were told because that's all they had. We were treated extremely rude. She told us to just pay for our drinks and go. Then when I mentioned we didn't all even get drinks she told us she'd "just eat it". My friend handed her a $100 and we left. She told us good luck on finding somewhere to eat. While I and my 9 friends were looking forward to a filet mignon dinner because we were told that's what they are known for..the party next to us said they had to wait forever for their food, we won'tbe back. I have never been treated so poorly and so rudely. Can't comment on the food but after experiencing that service I won't be back. This place is awesome! We have been going here for years. It is located near my dad's house. If you are familiar with the area you know that there are not a lot of great restaurants in the area. This is a diamond in the great outdoors. It is a 7 hour drive to visit family and I look forward to dinner at the log cabin! The steaks are great and fish dishes cannot be beat.
