We are a local couple and enjoy trying out as many of the local restaurants. It's our first time here and first impression is, well don't know what to expect. The main seating area was kind of full so the hostess sat both of us in the back room which at the time was empty. We were seated in a booth which is very nice and your own little place. The waitress was very accommodating. We ordered the spinach and artichoke dip. Good, but too much cheese. I ordered the hog wings with mild sauce. My wife ordered the cheesesteak with cheese sauce on the side. Wasn't sure what it would taste like. Food came in a timely fashion and was good. Was pleasantly surprised. The original Antlers from over a two decade ago was always a great experience. Fast forward, they closed and reopened. Was horrible. Fast forward to today, reinvented. We throughly enjoyed our meal. The menu is basic and simple. Not a ton of stuff, but everything we had was perfect. They have a Friday fish fry for 19.99. Saturday was a prime rib special for 29.99. Two of us had pasta dishes. Large portions, fresh and well prepared. We got side salads which were equally fresh and satisfying. The Prime Rib special was really impressive. Not much fat, perfectly cooked and seasoned, with large portions of side dishes included. Dinning room was crowded, so got a little loud at times. Wait staff was fast, knowledgeable and very friendly and attentive. We will definitely be coming back to the updated and much improved Old Antlers Inn. read more

Absolutely horrendous service & no one seemed to care. The red-haired girl at the front desk disappeared without acknowledging anyone. She was found texting on her phone while people were waiting for a very long time. We had a reservation, but it didn't matter. There were at least 6 empty tables, but they weren't seating people. When we finally did get seated our table was dirty. I had a napkin that looked like someone blew their nose on it. Seriously! The waitress then told us after almost an hour that it would be another 40 minutes. We left. We will never go back again. read more

The wait person was EXCEPTIONAL. The kitchen staff however was a disaster. Our meal order took nearly 90 minutes and then it was wrong. The evening special was billed as prime rib. After a wait of over 30 minutes the wait person came to explain the cook "wasn't sure if there was still any prime rib left". This was at 6PM and the restaurant was 75% empty. Ten minutes later we were told the meat had been located. Located!? When the meal arrived vegetarian Fettuccine Alfredo contained chicken. It was certainly NOT a vegetarian dish. The toasted garlic bread was charcoal, but our wait person sheepishly told us the manager had said to deliver it anyway, that is was "okay." At that point the wait person was near tears. It was clear that the manager is not someone who should be anywhere near a restaurant of any quality and should not be supervising ANYONE. The prime rib was overcooked and the remainder of the food was, for the most part, inedible. Our recommendation? Avoid the Old Antlers Inn at all cost. read more

I've only been here once recently and it was okay I feel it could've gone better, but not bad overall. A party came in and I was able to hear myself talk before they arrived. They were being overly loud. It made me feel like I was in a rave or concert having to scream across the table to the person I was eating with which was rude. Our waitress was a beautiful kind ginger lady, I apologize for not remembering her name, but she was kind and helpful. Adam and I ordered two hog wings and one of mine were so over cooked the bone was grey as well as the meat. I had to tear it off the bone. For my second one it was nicely cooked, but found a part that wasn't fully cooked so I obviously didn't eat it. Adams, the plate across from mine, was cooked perfectly his hog legs peeled right off the bone and were cooked nicely. Our Mac and cheese was pretty good we've never had home style Mac taste as good as it was here. We both got a side of fries with our meal and not knowing it, but the plate in the picture provided is one side of fries for one order we received the other plate of fries arrived mid meal. I feel that was a bit much and needs to be brought down to a smaller size for the side but that's my opinion. Alcoholic drinks were very tasteful and delicious I believe we ordered an orange sunrise. There are napkins at the table which I found convenient. They serve wet wipes for you to clean your hands with which was very helpful. The ladies bathroom was spacious and clean. I noticed they don't have their menu posted so I'm providing it here for those interested in trying them out. For those wanting steak it is not on the menu, however, they serve it on Saturdays I do believe but feel free to comment and correct me if I'm wrong. read more

Years ago when Ron and Sandy started the Antlers it was a great place to eat always full of people and great food then Ron died Sandy carried on but a fire burned down the original restaurant Sandy built a new gorgeous new facility in Ron's memory. Things happened and Sandy retired so new owners. Then things went down hill I mean over the cliff. The restaurant closed then new owners same story . My wife and I are locals that eat out often and enjoy all the great restaurants in and around Wellsboro so to continue with the story the Antlers closed again now new owners so we ask around and found that locial people were giving a thumbs up. Last Thursday on Thanksgiving my wife and I decided to give it another chance WALA great buffet every thing was good and fresh, service was good waitresses checking on us keeping my coffee cup full what more can we ask for. The restaurant was clean restroom spotlesss ,parking was easy for us old folks. We will be back as it has a separate large dining room for families with children away from the bar with smaller tables. I retired a few years ago as an over the road owner operator of a tractor trailer with over 5 million miles under my belt and my wife and I still are on the go traveling in all 49 states with all the lower province's of Canada and that includes the ferry to Newfoundland. We have been to great restaurants and the lowest of dives and when we say we love The Old Antlers Inn I speak with experience. read more

The food was exceptional! The bartender and waitress were so awesome! We were there when they were taking photos of new drinks, I got to try a maple bourbon milkshake! Holy cow best adult drink ever! My wife and I are local people and eat out 2 or 3 times a week. When Ron and Sandy had the original ANTLERS it was fantastic then after Ron died and the restaurant burned they built a beautiful new place. New owners took possession and the restaurant quality of food and service fell off a cliff. No local would go there so it closed again now new owners and I am glad to see The Old ANTLERS Inn thriving as the quality and service is back. We had a delicious Thanksgiving Buffet dinner today and everything was hot,moist, and the service was excellent. We locals are happy to have them back. read more

I started with an order of mango salsa from their appetizer list. The waitress said they were out of it. So I ordered wings instead. She said they were out of that too. so I ordered my pasta entree. she said they were out of it. This was when we guessed the food would likely be terrible. it was. the burger was so burnt I couldn't even believe it. It was inedible. Everything was inedible. They must be struggling to buy food. I don't trust that anything was fresh. my husband said the meat was likely old and so they burned it to kill any and all bacteria. I'm sure he's right. read more

I want to say before I write this post that the food and the service was great. The cheesesteak pierogies were delicious as well as the cheesesteak-mushroom and Swiss sandwich. The reason that I am only giving this place 3 stars is the add on fees. I ordered a chicken and cheese quesadilla. However, if you wanted anything additional on it like peppers and onions it was a DOLLAR EACH PER topping. If you wanted sour cream and salsa to dip your quesadilla, than it was an additional $1.50 per dip. I have never been at a restaurant where salsa or sour cream wasn't already included and if you did want onions or peppers, it was maybe 50 cents at most per topping. Additionally for the extra $2 I paid for onions and peppers, it was very skimpy. Further, other people in my party ordered sandwiches which came with chips. However, if you want fries like most people would, it was SIX DOLLARS for the substitution. That is absolutely ridiculous. Finally, make sure to pay in cash because they do charge the patrons the 3% surcharge fee to use a card, which is not well advertised and don't worry they do have an ATM inside. Overall, great food and atmosphere but prices should be adjusted. read more

My three amigos are on a bike trip and looked up restaurants near us from the Little Grand Canyon. Up pops Old Antlers Inn so lets give it a try. I had the Old Fire of Tower burger. My gosh it was awful. It is a pre-made patty that tastes like Soy Bean meat. Fries come with it which were normal no complaints about them but I would stay clear from the burgers. The service although very nice had the personality of wood. No smiles, no pleasantries, no kidding. The dining experience was less that stellar. I would suggest finding another place to eat if you're the area. read more

Terrible, absolutely terrible. Went for dinner last night (oct 18), and I'm still shocked at how bad it was. Ordered wings for an app, I got the prime rib, wife ordered the crab cakes. After our waitress dropped off our drinks she disappeared, literally. Wings were brought out by another waitress, they were hardly warm, I wouldn't call them cold, but they weren't hot either, probably sitting in the kitchen for a few too many minutes. Now, for the absolutely worst "prime rib" that has ever been served. Another waitress dropped off our main and we asked for another round but she said we need to ask our waitress, really? My prime rib was inedible, no joke. It was boiled, again, no joke. The outside was grayish, and the inside was RAW and cold, and I couldn't even cut it with a knife it was so tough. I had one bite and spit it out, I cannot even begin to describe how terrible it was. My wife finished her entire dinner, and still no waitress. Had to go to the hostess and ask for our waitress in order to get the check. Ridiculous. So she finally shows up and asks how everything was. I explained the problem with the prime rib and she said they can make me another one or have something else, I told her that would have been an option 20min ago when it was delivered, but we just want to leave. Took at least 15 min to get our check and leave at this point. I'm 42, and if prime rib is on the menu at a restaurant I order it. Again, this was the worst "meal" I've had in my life, not to mention the terrible waitress. It would have been more filling and nutritious to chew on rocks in the parking lot and never enter the place. Side note, hostess was very nice. $60 for terrible food and 1 beer each, save your hard earned money. read more

Just left here after wasting an hour waiting for our food. We ordered 2 steaks medium rare. They both came out well done. The whole time we waited, we were surrounded by tables that we're never cleaned off from the people before. A whole freakin hour and not one unused table was cleaned off. How disgusting. Then after waiting an hour surrounded by gross tables our well done steaks came out. I ate here once before about 15 years ago & remember it not goin so well then either. I came on a Monday night after a 4+hour drive. I was hungry. I sat at the bar, and they had me at a glass of Zinfandel. (The real thing, not that pink junk.) They were attentive and engaging when appropriate. I ate three things I normally don't eat there: Iceberg lettuce (the only lettuce available in these parts), bread (Ciabatta on my very yummy grilled portobello mushroom sandwich) and French fries, which I received as an unasked-for side. One reason I don't normally eat fries is that good ones are addictive. These fall in that category. Freshly cut potato "slabs" cooked to tender, non-greasy perfection. If this grilled portobello mushroom sandwich qualifies as comfort food, it's a well-earned title. See my review of Log Cabin. I wish I'd come back here instead so I could try something else where the people acted like they cared...and the wifi works. read more

We'd eat here every year when we came up for Dicken's Christmas in downtown Wellsboro. The atmosphere was neat and the buffet was pretty good too. You couldnt beat their all you cna eat crab legs. When we tried to make reservations for this year (Dec 1, 2012), we were told it had closed. Several drive-bys over the course of our stay there confirmed this. read more

This place is full of little surprises. Like a lot of customers, we stumbled on it after being rejected -- rudely, I hasten to add -- by the Log Cabin next door because we didn't have a reservation. We saw this apparent inn and beer store, and figured it might have a restaurant, too. Surprise, surprise! It did. In fact, even though the sign out front says, "Inn," and the architecture strongly suggests it is a hostelry, there is no such thing. (Note to management: Add a simple one-word sign out front saying, "Restaurant," and your business among tourists will grow dramatically.) The second little surprise is the mother-and-daughter team of servers, Dinah and Paige. In sharp contrast to their neighbor, they are welcoming, friendly and consistently positive. This despite the fact that they commute nearly 45 minutes each way to work and back every day. (Note to restaurateurs in Coutersport: You could do much worse than this hardworking team.) The third little surprise, and it is the biggest, is the chef and manager, John, who hails from New Orleans and sprinkles cajun throughout the menu. On our first visit, we tried the barbecue shrimp, which is nothing of the sort, but excellent nonetheless, and we figured if he called what it is he would sell a lot less. The next night we returned, and John whipped us up an off-menu saucy seafood boil. Also excellent. Skip the Cabin. Go for the Antlers. read more

The Context: 1. If you read my other reviews, you'll see that I try hard to find the good in any restaurant I review. I know how hard it is to provide good food and service. 2. How do I know this? I used for a good friend who owns an Italian restaurant in Pittsburgh. We had 10 commandments. Number 10: "It doesn't matter if a customer walks in 5 minutes before we close. We give them our best food and service. You never know who they'll talk to about you." I so wish this restaurant had the same commandment. The Experience: So it was August 11. We really wanted a good meal. We had been driving all day, and we were looking forward to seeing the Perseids at Cherry Springs State Park later in the evening. We read the reviews and thought, "this would be a great place to fortify ourselves against a long night of watching the celestial fireworks." We arrived around 8:15 pm. There were ...maybe... Four other customers present, and two employees were sitting at the bar. We had one server all to ourselves. I ordered a cup of crab soup and grilled bacon, Apple, and cheese sandwich with onion rings. My lovely lady ordered a burger. The Review: Thirty five minutes later, most of our food arrived. I say "most" as they forgot the soup. The soup came out five minutes later, the entire cup, soup, and saucer so hot from microwaving that it was inedible. The onion rings were so overlooked that they crumbled on first bite. The bacon apple grilled cheese was dry and the bacon crumbled to dust on each bite. There were a total of two half-slices of apple inside. I had two bites of of sandwich, one spoon full of soup, blisters on the roof of my mouth, and I was done. The only reason the place for two stars is because my lovely lady's burger was well cooked. For a $13 burger I would hope so. The waiter saw that I ate almost nothing, but didn't ask if there was anything wrong. He ran over with the check. As I was counting out the cash, the staff began turning out the lights. Should I have complained? Probably yes. Given that someone preset would have been the closing manager, the restaurant employee in me whispered in my ear that it wouldn't matter. My wife liked her burger, and I had chips and salsa back at the cabin. So I paid the bill. I guess we will be going elsewhere tonight. Even though we will drive 15 miles out of our way to do so. The Moral of the Story: Please treat your customers as though you would want them to come back again. Follow the 10th commandment. read more

I'm not sure how they stay in business, but we had one of the worst dinners in our lives. I ordered the black prime rib. My wife ordered the seafood trio. When the dinners were served, my prime rib was so tough that I could not cut it. My wife's dinner was terrible. Shrimp was tough, fish was rubbery, and the crab cakes were breading with a lot of old bay seasoning. The side dishes of potato and creamed corn were poorly made and gross. When we finished, the waitress didn't ask why we didn't eat our meals and then the cook marched out to our table and asked us if we wanted something, as if to say "I noticed you didn't eat your meal and you better not ask for a discount". I thought he was coming to ask if our food was ok, but clearly he just wanted to intimidate us. It was weird. I told him "No" in response to his question and he walked away. Anyway, the alcohol and salad bar were the best part as well as the atmosphere. When we went to leave, I grabbed some mints and discovered as I got in our car that they were rancid and stale. So sad - we wanted it to be good, but they just don't know what they're doing and clearly don't get many customers. The good news is that it was just the 2 of us and not our whole family, so we lost $70 but learned to not go back until someone else owns it. read more

Food and service today, we had late lunch. excellent burger and great fries with very little salt. Chicken, bacon macaroni and cheese was well loved by my daughter who is very picky. I had the steak meal and salad bar. Salad bar was fresh and over twenty toppings. The butter corn was sweet and fresh just like off the cob. The stake was cooked medium rare which was done perfectly! The worse experience ever! My husband and I decided to go there for our 19th wedding anniversary, we hired a babysitter and set out to enjoy a nice meal. We sat at the table for 20 minutes before any one even came to ask for our drink order then we ordered our food. My baked potato was hard as a rock, not even close to done. My crab cakes were actually mush that tasted like tuna fish. My husband's baked potato had a huge black center. Neither one of us could eat our meals and we left with me in tears over our ruined anniversary dinner. Never again! read more

We celebrated my dad's birthday here today. Loved the experience. Sue, our waitress, was super nice. She took fabulous care of us while allowing family who hadn't seen each other in a long time to catch up. Food: my dad's appetite has gotten smaller over the years. I was surprised to see him eat half of a Reuben sandwich that was enormous. He said he thinks their Reuben is one of the best he's ever had. (He used to be a head cook at the Waldorf Astoria in NYC.) My harvest chicken salad was delicious. Actual real cranberries, house toasted pecans, juicy chicken breast and a light champagne vinaigrette dressing. Definitely share an appetizer of loaded potato chips (house made). Everyone in our party of 6 loved them. Lastly, the three desserts we shared were all house made and delicious. It is a family restaurant in the north PA. The owner is very friendly and it is about 20 min driving distance from the Cherry Spring State Park. If you want to have some fresh food in the wild area, they have very good fresh fish maybe caught locally. I like their good service, which made me feel like home. read more

I always enjoyed the OLD Antlers Inn - since the '70's. I've eaten at the NEW Antlers in several times since it opened - lunch and dinner. Early on, there were some service and staff concerns, but those have since been addressed. Food is very good to excellent. Crab and Clam chowders are some of the best I've ever eaten. Staff is very friendly and service is now very good. Owners did a great job with the remodeling and the atmosphere is great - esp. if you are the outdoorsman type. If you were disappointed last Fall or Early Winter give it another chance - I know several folks who are glad they did. I live about an hour away but pass through the area often and sometimes work in the area and try to time it so I can stop for lunch or dinner. read more

We were traveling back from visiting the Green Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania, and came across this place for dinner. There were limited number of vegetarian items on the menu, but owner called the chef out and chef created a delicious vegetarian pasta with pesto alfredo sauce. It's one of the best pastas we've had. Free soup and salad bar is a plus. Owner greeted us warmly and so did our waitress. I would really recommend this place. read more

I am a fair minded person and a foodie. I'll keep it short and simple . We went this last Sunday the 4th. Had a large group (11) and had eaten here once before. I had high expectations.After the order was placed a number of items became unavailable. Squash, onion rings and crab soup. An awkward situation developed as to who got to have crab soup of the three that ordered. Pretty much everything else was inedible. Everything was over seasoned. The burger, the Potato soup and the Meatloaf. The waitress actually said the cook didn't have time to make the onion rings and crab soup. My advice, If you cant bring your A game every time you open your doors. Don't open them. read more
