Where the views camp-ture your heart every single time…read more We've camped at Camp Palehua several times now, and let me tell you ...the views never get old. Like, ever. Every sunset looks like it was custom-ordered, every sunrise feels cinematic, and the mountains and coastline somehow manage to outdo themselves each visit. Mother Nature really shows off up here. This place is the perfect mix of peaceful, rustic, and refreshingly unplugged ...the kind of spot where the air feels cleaner, conversations get longer, and your stress decides to hike somewhere else for a while. The grounds are well-kept, the facilities are tidy (huge camp-win), and there's plenty of space to roam, explore, and pretend you're on a wilderness adventure... even if your idea of "roughing it" still includes snacks and a cozy sleeping bag Family-friendly, quiet, and absolutely gorgeous. Camp Palehua is one of those places you keep coming back to because it just feels good to be there. Same campsite, same mountains, same sky... and somehow it's magical every single time. Bottom line: peaceful vibes, unforgettable scenery, and views so good they deserve their own camp badge. We'll be back, again and again

Went to Camp Palehua to hike and see what the camp had to offer…read more We had to schedule in advance, as well as fill out a waiver form. Once this is done a gate code is provided. It's a few mile drive until we reached the camp mostly paved road. The camps buildings are all in the same general area. There are bunkhouses, a building set up like a stable with groups of bunk beds, and other cabins. There is a mess hall and building for meeting. The camp is all very rustic with built in pool to cool off in. The camp has some beautiful views from the buildings including two giant size chairs to sit in and enjoy views below. They make for a silly photo op. Looks like a fun place for children or adults who want to relive camp memories to stay at. The office staff member is friendly and helpful. We hiked the 2 mile out and back hike to the Nanakuli Lookout. It use to be a loop trail however at this time part of the trail leading to pillboxes is off limits. Which was a disappointment. However the section of the trail available to us did offer some beautiful views and partial shade.

DO NOT CAMP HERE!!!!!!! Amazingly beautiful beach with…read moreamazing sunsets, but this is a well-known tent-city homeless encampment!!!! We stayed in our tent while many people were opening doing drugs, burning things, screaming, bottles breaking, and overall chaos. To top it off....7 police cars and 12 police officers came around 8am to raid the homeless encampment. They asked if I had a reservation (which i most definitely did through the City & County of Honolulu Parks and Recreation website which I showed them). They said we were good, but the area is not safe for tourists at all and we should leave asap, but that they need to sweep the camping area. DO NOT CAMP HERE!!!!! This campsite and beach are completely covered with various garbage, used hygiene products, used needles, shattered glass, and homeless showering themselves with a hose flooding the bathroom. DO NOT CAMP HERE!!!! I asked a few locals, they were angry that the City & County of Honolulu Parks and Recreation website still allows reservations at a well-known homeless encampment and said she will most definitely speak up because as she put it "you are really lucky you made it out safely. That homeless encampment is known across the island as dangerous, serious drug use and criminal activity" DO NOT CAMP HERE!!!!

I was honestly just driving around the island with no set plans and happened to stumble into this…read morespot. Finding a beach with actually decent free parking right off the highway can be a pain out here, but Nānākuli Beach Park made it super easy to just pull over and touch grass. The beach itself is really nice and wide, but the coolest part is definitely exploring the surrounding spots. If you walk around a bit, there are a lot of hidden rocky areas, tide pools, and cool vantage points to check out that most people probably just drive right past. It can get a little busy with locals hanging out and camping, but it gives it a genuine, non-touristy feel. Definitely worth pulling over if you're doing an island cruise and want to explore somewhere a little less manicured!

Left side is mostly sand bottom, perfect for swimming and the right side is great for surfing n bodyboarding over a beautiful reef. All with a lifeguard on duty. You must be military affiliated to rent a cabin (studio, 1bedroom, 2bedroom)…read more They have a couple pans, dish settings for 4, a fridge, stove/oven, microwave, furniture, and tv. The best part is that they have AC in all the rooms. Housekeeping comes in the morning to see if towels are needed. They do not make beds during your stay, as this is not a hotel. When you check out you are expected to clean the kitchen, sweep, and take out your trash. At their discretion you maybe charged $50 cleaning fee. This had never happened to me and I've stayed multiple times, but I do wipe down everything. This is a very relaxing place, not busy with people and quite quiet.

For snorkeling, today was a bust due to the rough water which includes poor visibility and rocks that you cannot see. Ironically, all the beaches leading to Makua have a restroom, but not this one which is why I docked a star.

When driving along the Leeward coast of Oahu, it's hard not to marvel at the beauty of the…read moremountains on your right, and the long stretches of ocean on your left. There are countless state and city parks on this side of the island, and one of our favorites is Maili Beach Park. It's a long green stretch of land with palms lining the coast. Parking is ample with various entrances into each lot. They have restroom facilities as well as outdoor exercise equipment. The grass areas are big and flat, perfect for outdoor gatherings to set up tents and room to play. The beach areas here are mostly rocky, not the best for swimming. Be sure to stop here to watch the sunset!
