It set the tone for the rest of our time there. They have a yummy cheese, salsa, bean and chip combo that we ordered for our appetizer and it was over the top. Thank you! Dinner took 30 minutes to reach our table. A little long and it's not like they were full with a line of people waiting. Their chips looked and seemed generic, but they were good. Salsa was about a 10/10 for me. Flavor, heat, consistency. Perfect. Bean dip was good. Nacho queso was fun, but a little plain. I appreciated having it. I had 3 shredded beef tacos, and beans and rice. One of my major complaints of an otherwise very good experience. Is that two out of my three tacos were soggy by the time I got to them and I tried to get to them immediately before I started in on the beans and rice to prevent eating soggy tacos. Anyway, that was a big disappointment. Beyond that, the freshness and flavor and quality was great. I enjoyed everything. I would definitely eat here again. I'm not sure if my tacos were soggy from the tomatoes or the shredded beef or because they were sitting under the heat light for too long. I would need to figure that out next time, if I'm ever in Pocatello again... There was live music, and that was fun. At the end of our meal thy brought out chips with cinnamon, whipped cream, and caramel drizzle. Free of charge. This is not my type of thing at all. But I have to admit it was a nice little treat after dinner and was very, very good. The only reason I'm not giving this a five star review is because of the soggy tacos. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone. Everything was great.

I like the green enchilada sauce better than the red. Others in our party like the red. Needs Improvement: One of the rare times I haven't liked the salsa at a Mexican restaurants. Primary flavor was sour, and I'm puzzled how they managed that. Chips weren't very good. Chile relleno wasn't something we'd order again. Bottom line -- it's kinda hit and miss on the offerings here. Some things they do well consistently (like cheese crisps and nachos) while other things are off enough you are discouraged from coming back. Oh, and watch your step walking into and through this restaurant. Odd steps, slopes that can trip if you're not paying attention.

I love fish tacos! I don't love fish tacos from Mama Inez. I'll tell you why in a bit…read more My mom ordered two cheese enchiladas, and a ground beef taco. My daughter ordered street tacos, and my son ordered the Chili Colorado steak burrito. The ground beef taco was good with just the right amount of seasoning, the cheese enchiladas had a great sauce and was served with Spanish rice. My son's burrito had good flavor and the meat was extremely tender served with a really good enchilada sauce. My daughter's street taco was just ok. To me, there was nothing special about his they cooked the meat and could've used more seasoning. Now for my fish tacos. First off, I made the mistake of ordering mango salad and pico degallo on the fish tacos. Their secret sauce tasted like ranch dressing. Nothing secret about that. The fish was not the least bit crunchy or flaky. It was mushy. The flavors did not mesh at all. And where is my lime? Don't order this one. Overall, I thought the sides were good, the rice, and the beans. My only criticism with these sides, they needed more salt to make the flavors pop. I'm down to trying this place again. Just not going to order fish tacos again.

My job takes me to Pocatello fairly regularly and when I am here I usually grab lunch at Costa Vida…read moreonce or twice. I love this place; my only real issue with them is that they are closed on Sundays. Costa Vida is by far the best burrito-bar style restaurant I have ever eaten at. Chipotle is boring compared to Costa Vida. Cafe Rio, which is similar in many ways, just isn't nearly as good or as high in quality. The best thing on the menu by far is their sweet pork. If you haven't tried Costa Vida's sweet pork, then you haven't truly experienced Costa Vida! I used to always order their smothered burrito, but recently I have been hooked on their enchiladas. Both items are delicious and very similar (tortilla, rice, beans, cheese, meat & sauce with lettuce and pico de gallo on the side) but I find that I enjoy the different flavors of their sweet pork and cilantro lime rice more when I eat the enchiladas as the rice and beans are on the side instead of being mixed into the burrito. This weekend, on the way home from camping in Idaho, we stopped in Pocatello for lunch. We were craving Tex-Mex and we both agreed that we had a higher opinion of Costa Vida than Cafe Rio, so we headed to Costa Vida. When we got there, we found that the Pocatello Costa Vida was not open on Sunday, so we had lunch at the Cafe Rio. I was very disappointed with Cafe Rio's food; while it was similar to Costa Vida, it just wasn't nearly as good. Next time I am in Pocatello, hopefully it won't be on a Sunday so I can eat at Costa Vida.
