The Sandpiper Restaurant was one busy place when I walked in to for my takeout order. The restaurant is midway up a hill with great views. I had ordered minutes earlier from the hotel, luckily for me, the order wasn't ready. I was able to have a nice conversation with the hostess from California. We ordered their pork shank with mushrooms and mashed pototoes. The pork shank was perfectly cooked. It was so tender that no knife was needed. My wife liked both the potatoes and French fries. I also ordered a small dinner salad. The salad was fancy salad with bay shrimp. Ranch dressing was perfect for the salad. Bread was also provided, but, not eaten. One order of their pork shank plus an extra salad was enough to feed both my wife and I. The Sandpiper was a good find for me. Great service as a takeout customer. Great food. We love the atmosphere and the staff but the food was terrible. My husband ordered the cedar plank salmon and it was literally raw. I ordered fettuccine Alfredo with Cajun chicken. The entire bowl was sprinkled with Cajun spice on the rim which was super over powering. Not pretty and ruined the dish. The reviews were correct the new owner needs a better kitchen staff. So first off... if you don't try the prime rib you need to come back and try it. Cooked perfectly and the spice and fat cap was great! Sandpiper's use to be my favorite but now the escargot is about a third of the size, very little garlic butter and a ton of backed on cheese with the sliced baguette on top. W And for $15.00 I would never order it again. My Prime Cap Steak for $36.00 was underwhelming to say the least weighing about 3 oz. It was tender and flavorful but definitely not worth the money. So disappointed in a once favorite place. Was in town for a funeral and I wanted a good meal. Made reservations and when the 4 of us walked in, there was an open table in the bar area. So we took it. The bar is open seating, first come first served. I then got up to go over to the front desk to tell them we're choosing to sit in the bar and won't need our reserved table. But that's when some guy with an attitude told us we could not have that bar table and to move. Highly disappointed we got seated in the back and ordered dinner. I really wanted to be in the fun, lively bar area. But whatever. No apologies from them, not even an offer of a round of free drinks to smooth it over. As for the food, my daughter did not like her Alfredo, and my medium rare steak was far from cooked right. Then the second medium rare steak came out and the center was COLD. Even their signature salad was not the same. Just a hot mess all around. I do not plan to return when I'm in town. This was once a place I went to regularly when I lived here. Service is great, and the staff are amazing! This use to be a regular dinner spot for us over the last 10 years. Unfortunately, it changed ownership recently and they have really gone downhill. They changed the menu and the quality of food is noticeably lower, while raising prices on everything. I use to order the rodfather steak, it's no longer on the menu and the chicken parmigiana is gone. My steak was full of fat and gristle. Sadly, we won't be coming back. read more

What a charming place..... from the staff to the food to the ambiance! Chloe was our server and couldn't have been nicer. She gave us great recommendations. I had the Hawaiian Crunch Halibut. I've never had anything like it; it was divine! My husband was trying to decide between a couple pork dishes. Chloe suggested the pork shank with mashed potatoes. A beautiful restaurant so convenient In Pocatello, right near several hotels! My first time visiting this place w my local Cousins who dine here regularly! I will say, the service was friendly and fairly prompt but it took little too long to get our drinks and our meals, over 30min without warning and the entrees we chose were nicely prepared except my Trout was bit too dry, the baked potato was great and the Caesar salad I had! My family ordered steak with a Gorgonzola sauce which she felt was little offensive and strong for the little steak and the other had surf and turf and was decent. Overall my fam said this wasn't the usual for this place as it's usually excellent right down to the better communication they've experience in the past! I rate it 5 for service. I rate it 2 for food. I do not know exactly what has changed since the sale to new owners, but the food quality, the portion control and the preparation has steadily diminished. The quality of the steaks has changed with smaller cuts and a higher fat content. The small cut NY Strip was 50% fat tonight. I had to send it back. The Halibut last Friday was 4 1/2 ounces for a dinner portion and the small Filet last Tuesday that I ordered medium rare was absolutely blood red with only grill marks to indicate it even made acquaintances with the broiler. A one time occurrence of any of these presentations would be understandable . Three in a row is a trend and not a good one. The service is still excellent and I commend the staff that is still there for offering exemplary service despite the challenges. I will continue to frequent the lounge as the bartenders are excellent and the cocktails remain unchanged but I am no longer ordering entrees for the time being. I love this place and have been a regular patron for 20 years and I am concerned. If the food quality continues to suffer then I am forced to make a choice and that excludes ordering dinner. There are no longer "Specials" on the menu daily other than the soup of the day. What happened to the creativity in the kitchen? I would prefer the "old" Sandpiper back rather than this newer version. read more

Spent a night in Pocatello and got lucky with having this restaurant across the street from our hotel. We were greeted by Bree at the front desk and she was quick to seat us and very friendly. Our server was Mekell and she was great, really great. So friendly and checked in to see how we were doing in perfect intervals. We both had the prime rib dip and it was the best I have ever had. They also have full bar, TV (for sports lovers) and menu is decent from steak to seafood.
