Most of the time when I arrive here, I'm already drunk. The couple times I have gone sober is when I really notice how strong their cheap drinks are.... and I love it! The jukebox rocks and does get updated frequently. I've been there since the new ownership but I was drunk. I've been here several times and every time I walk in I'm greeted by the putrid smell of old beer and loneliness. The last time I was there the black bartender gave me an over eager hug, he held it long enough for me to question his sexuality. They are located in the asscrack of Montrose after all. The drinks are pretty cheap but if you don't tip, the surly overweight bartender with the designer glasses will harass you. I've witnessed this on numerous occasions. It hasn't happened to me personally but it's a disgusting sight to see. There's a reason they're called tips. If your scrounging for money, maybe you should raise the drink prices. Lola's Depot has been around longer than I've been alive. Probably one of the dirtiest dives in Houston, but also a staple. The bartenders are really cool and laid back. They used to only take cash, but have since started accepting cards. Recently put in a rita/pina colada machine (but those are suspect). The lone stars are super cheap, and if you go in on a Tuesday night with $20, you just might end up getting chit-faced. Needless to say, always a good time. Bathrooms are sick, but hey, at least they are not unisex! And if you read the walls long enough you may find some profound insights to life.. I love Lola's! It's so dark and divey, and the people are cool. Their drinks are hella cheap, and that's fine with me. Lola's is everything a dive bar should be. I'm partial because this joint takes me back to days of yester year. Me and one of my best friends were fixtures here back in the 80s. What is super cool is the place hasn't changed. It's just as I remember it. Even the huge patio area. You step inside and you are swallowed up by the underbelly of a dive bar and oddly enough you like it. I dig Lola's. I can say I have left this bar happily intoxicated quite a number of times. $1.75 PBR Makes my life happy, my liver sad and my wallet full. Can't beat that. I also dig that its super dark inside thus making me look better. No but in all honesty they have a great bar staff that work really hard and have the patience of saints considering the mess of people that go through there. Everyone that walks in to Lola's looks like they might kick your ass, mostly because they will probably kick your ass, but luckily you're at Lola's thus making you automatically a cool kid so they probably won't kick your ass for now. Plenty of Punks, Bearded men of all shapes and sizes and thirsty ladies that don't look like they know what planet they are on. I come for the cheap drinks, stay for the patio. They have a HUGE patio which plenty of seating for groups or anti social people. Music is loud but not overly intrusive. They have free pool which is always nice. I give 5 stars for a dive bar! For people watching, its the place to be. From local bum, to limo crowd, its all there. Staffs super cool, prices very cheap. Not many places in town have a all day happy hour( TUESDAYS ONLY) at $1.75 wells all day! On regular days Happy Hour is 6-7 and 9-11. Can't beat that. I stop by here on occasion when friends are already here may it be a birthday gathering or a random weeknight wading out the traffic back to the burbs. Another great feature is their Jukebox with lots of great alternative, punk and metal for every kind of freak under the pale moon. This is one of my favorite bars. If you love dives, you'll want to live at Lola's. Super strong, super cheap drinks and a good jukebox. The barstaff is always super nice and jokes around with the customers. I've been coming here three years and look forward to coming here all the time. Ask for a 'thing' shot, they're yummy, go down smooth and have a good kick. I'm so glad they're not cash only anymore, that was the only thing holding them back for a while. Woof. I can't even begin to describe my night at Lola's. I showed up by myself and sat at the bar alone for a half hour, taking in the scene. There were your regulars, weirdos, drunks, men giving you the eye, women yelling about said eye, etc. Drinks are cheap as sin til 11 ($1.75 beers and wells) and still pretty cheap after. There is a big backyard patio with lots of picnic tables, and a jukebox inside with a bunch of really current indie music (not a Rolling Stones or Fleetwood Mac album to be found). Lola's is THE definition of Dive Bar, front-to-back. It's much much different than I had expected, but it's different in a good way, and most of my fellow Yelpers hit the nail on the head with an unbiased hammer on their reviews. I came here late-ish last Saturday night with a friend after our Midtown excursion blew up (thanks for stealing the crowd, Rodeo). The crowd here is definitely INTERESTING, but fits the Montrose/hippie scene perfectly. You won't find the Midtown hoodlums or the downtown yuppies here; instead you get characters from...everywhere else. Their 16 ounce PBRs were a measly $2, so hitting the $10 minimum for our credit card tab actually required some effort...and a lot of drinking. So you definitely get your money's worth for the drinks here! One female reviewer posted below me that there were some creeps at the bar. I've only been here once so I can't say for certain, but my friend I came with frequented the place often, and he said he enjoyed talking to many of the regular customers without any issues. I can't speak for all you ladies out there- but I can understand why some customers in the bar would come off as "creepy," if that helps at all! All in all, a unique experience- something outside the realm of the usual Montrose/Midtown/Downtown bar scene. A breath of fresh air. A TRUE dive bar. Fully decorated in stickers, promo stuff, BRAS.. graffiti encouraged! Great service. EFFING CHEAP AS HELL. GREAT BARTENDERS!!! Once they let me pull my scooter in under the covering in the back patio once when it was raining.... Wow. I fell in love at that moment. And I don't know how many times I lost an ID, left my debit card, or even a scarf and they took care of it till I got back. They know your name. You even care to learn theirs. They know your drinks! There's just something about the laidback atmosphere, lack of a cover charge, and usually available pool tables that draws me in. The drinks are stupid cheap and awesomely strong, the atmosphere is cool and makes you feel comfortable, and the bartenders are pretty attentive. If you love dive bars, you'll dig Lola's. read more

This is the diviest dive I've ever been to...I LOVE IT! The drinks are made right and cheap, the patrons have a camaraderie with the bartenders, and the patio is large enough to fit groups. Be casual. ultra casual. There is no sign so use GPS. You'd never even know what the building was unless you knew where you were going. The playlist on the speakers had me jamming all of my favorite alt/rock songs and yes, I sing along. The downsides- Bathroom only has one toilet (women's), but plenty of TP. Parking is on the street, so be sure to park legally. And the bar will only take credit cards if you spend a minimum, which may not be easy because the drinks are uber cheap. I was in Houston from out of town on a Friday afternoon, and searched Yelp for a dive bar in Montrose. The cab driver had never heard of it, and when I arrived it was still light out, so I saw Lola's exterior in all it's aesthetically unappealing glory. No sign, just a purple house on an alleyway with a ragged fence and a big black door. I caught a few unwelcoming and untrusting glares when I walked in, but after 30 mins I was yukking it up with Kenny the bartender and several regulars. It's certainly not a place I'd recommend to someone with any apprehensions or ideas about how clean a bar should be, but if you're used to the divey kind of scene then this place may be up your alley. Cheap drinks in a charmingly dingy, small place, with a few people who may not like you very much. But as long as you aren't a jackass, there are some good folks, strong drinks, good music, and an enjoyable scene to be had. read more

The definitive dive bar. Its dirty, loud and extremely cheap. The crowd hangs out here looks rough around the edges but i find that they are welcoming folk and I've never run into issues with anyone. Bar staff is on top of everything.... (except the mens restroom and dusting). I think that much like some of the restaurants near this place, Lolas is a Houston staple and is worth a shot. It wont be to everyones taste but it certainly serves its purpose proudly. 3/5 stars cause im pretty sure that the mens restroom has some yet to be known by mankind crazy horrible disease brewing in it. read more
