You know it's good when I forget to take pictures of the experience. We stopped here before a show at House of Independents and it was absolutely perfect. Delicious cocktails on their menu and plenty to choose from. Food was flavorful, warm, and fantastic. We plan on going here anytime we have a show now. Note: food ended at 6pm on a Friday. It says on one of their signs "late night bites" but they might've done away with that. I got the tomato & mozzarella panini ($14.) The bread has rosemary baked into it. It was easy to eat - not "too large" or hard bread that roughs up the roof of your mouth. It's the perfect insides to bread ratio. My bf got the chicken salad panini ($15) and THAT was amazing. The berries give it a sweet flavor. He was scooping what fell out of the sandwich with the chips it was that good. I recommend the Honey Boo cocktail if you like sweet flavors and bourbon. The Spicy Bee (I think that was it) was the perfect balance of pepper and orange. There's black & white movies playing on a screen in the corner which had me fascinated and I wish I knew what movie it was. The lighting is low and the decor makes you feel you might be sitting in a speakeasy. 2 drinks and 2 paninis came out to ~ $80 with tip, so it is pricey but it's worth it. read more

My kind of place. I wandered over here on the 4th of July with my top-tier chum as we waited patiently for some parking spots to open up in Ocean Grove next door (on us entirely - if you want parking on one of the heavy hitter beach days in the summer, you get down here before the sun comes up). We were able to find parking over here though relatively easily, since Asbury basically has multiple business districts and this one is a 10-minute walk from the boardwalk chaos. We saw numerous high quality pooches on our journey from the car to the entrance of Lola's, which was a holiday delight. It's hard to describe the vibe in here. Yes, very European but also with a whiff of hipster. The interior is pretty dark and we didn't spend a ton of time in there, opting instead to take advantage of the pleasant weather outside, but it had a lot of cool Old Hollywood shizzle on the walls - I'm always down for that iconic pic of Rita Moreno giving Jayne Mansfield stink eye (leave Mariska's mother alone). Very edgy, spacious bathroom as well. I was thrilled to see a familiar cocktail chum on the menu, the Gold Rush, which is a bourbon/honey concoction that I first enjoyed at the Vault in Sedona - an all-timer for me. This one wasn't quite as good as that one; I thought it was a little bland and had too much of the lemon. which drowned out the sweeter, honey aspects. (I just checked the Vault menu to see what additional ingredients that drink had, and it looks like it's bitters. They should get that or something similar here.) A lot of people are shouting out the paninis, and rightfully so. They use a rosemary bread for it that's delicious, and turkey, brie and fig just hit no matter what. I accidentally ate three slices of Domino's earlier in the morning so I didn't have a fully appreciative palate for it, otherwise that item would have been 100% devoured. My chum, who's a notable grazer in this day and age, ate everything on her plate - another testament to how tasty this item was. The biggest area for constructive feedback is the management and logistics of the outside drinking/dining area. It's SUPER narrow out there, and it really looks like they could widen it by another five or 10 feet, which would help out tremendously. Any time one of us had to go back inside to use the restroom, order an additional drink, etc., we had to basically have a strategy session to maneuver past people to get into the restaurant again. Additionally (and it WAS a Friday afternoon, so probably not their fully-staffed crew), they only had one bartender inside and a server/runner that I could see, so you had to order everything through the bartender, wait for the drinks yourself to bring outside, and if you wanted anything else, go back in. The server wasn't an assigned waiter, if that makes sense. Again, that might be a moot issue later in the day but I'd argue for the 4th of July, you have an extra person working. Minor quibble and something that's likely easily fixable. The bartender was very nice, especially given that she was in charge of literally everyone's drinks and processing the food orders. Impressive stuff. One of the better establishments I've been to in Asbury, which is saying something. read more

I frequent Lola's quite often and their cocktails have never let me down. They make the best dirty martinis, something about their olive juice. I think they have brine that they use for cocktails. Their espresso martinis are also very tasty. I like that they have seasonal cocktails to change it up a bit! The only downside is it does get busy and packed in there so it can take awhile to get your order in. I don't think it's possible for me to love a place anymore than I love Lola's. It has become my go to spot for any kind of evening whether I'm with a small group looking for a place to hang out that everyone can find something they like, to a small intimate setting for a date, it really checks all of the boxes. The highlights, of course, other cocktails, especially their martinis, but don't sleep on their mixed drinks. The bartenders whip up some delicious flavors that are always on point for whatever season it is. And for an extra bonus, if you're feeling a little sweet, they have a whole gelato bar with ingredients imported from Italy itself. During the day, you can also delight yourself with charcuterie boards, and paninis. They literally have everything. We stopped at Lola's and looked at the menu by the entrance then decided to go in and try two of the panini's. Upon entering Lola's we were met with a bar, a gelato counter, and a single bartender, there are no servers at all. The bartender was friendly, and told us that the menus were by the door so we grabbed a menu and placed our order with the bartender. We ordered two paninis, one Prosciutto & Peppers, and one Tomato & Mozzarella. Since there were no servers we took a table outside, but one of us had to wait inside for our panini's. The panini's took a very long time to prepare, over 30 minutes. This could be due to the restaurant being clearly understaffed. The bartender was making drinks, serving gelato, taking orders, and ringing up an ever-growing line of customers at the register all on his own. A woman (not the bartender) walked out from the kitchen once the Panini's were finally finished, and was oddly reluctant to hand over the panini's I just waited in line to pay for. Oddly she pulled them away as I went to take them and asked the bartender "did they pay?" before actually handing them over. Not sure if she thought we were some Panini's thieves or what the deal was with that. Maybe we had just caught them on a bad day. All of that aside, the panini's were mixed! I'd say the tomato & mozzarella was a 1/5, and the Prosciutto & Peppers one was a 4/5. Ultimately, do I think Lola's paninis are worth waiting over 30 minutes for when you have so many other great options on the same street? Absolutely not, go elsewhere! read more

The Deets: In all the years in going to Asbury Park, I never really got to go to Lola's European Cafe much until this year actually. I went by in the end of the winter months and on a cold rainy day, I thought that an Irish Coffee would be exactly what was needed. The bartender that day made a perfect one, I enjoyed it very much. He was also very personable, positive, upbeat, and made that visit a great one for me. A couple of months later, I dropped by and not only did this bartender Mark remember that I came by in the past and our conversation that day, he also made me a delicious Cosmopolitan to enjoy on that subsequent visit. He and the rest of the staff have been wonderful on my experiences there and this great service is one of the reasons I try to go by whenever I can to Lola's. They have a great assortment of drink and cocktail selections as well as coffee, gelato, delicious nibbles and small plates to enjoy. Plus, any place that has Turner Classic Movies (TCM) playing all the time has my vote...I love classic movies. There are special theme nights and even music at certain times. With a good variety of outside tables, inside tables, and bar seats, the cafe is very inviting and comfortable if not a bit rustic. I can't believe I missed out on Lola's for so long, but now I am glad they are in my rotation of places in Asbury Park to visit when I am in town. read more

Reading the reviews on Yelp had made my expectations a bit on the higher side for Lola's. It was my first time and my friend suggested we stop by for some gelato with an alcohol shot twice poured on top. She didn't seem too friendly so I honestly just wanted to get our stuff and get out. Anyways, let's talk about what we came here for. They had a pretty decent selection of gelato, some flavors are more unique than others. We opted for the cinnamon toast crunch and lucky charms. One scoop of each and a shot of vanilla vodka costed $17. I wish I had taken a picture of how our scoops looked like but for some reason, mine looked incomparable to my friends scoop. Meaning, there was barely any ice cream in my cup. Which was sad because the flavor was just so yummy. I just basically paid $10 for a shot of vodka and barely a scoop of ice cream. I kind of wished I had gotten something else here than what I did, maybe the review wouldn't be as bad.
