We are here for a brief vacation at asbury park breach and we are with dog so found chat and nibble in our search for pet friendly dining. Don't sleep on this spot. It's not in the typical boardwalk or Cookman location. It's about .8 miles in the opposite direction from the board walk but we enjoyed our stroll with the pup.. the food was fantastic. My daughter got the asbury special which was two eggs, toast and a choice of potato and I got the Mediterranean omelet with feta, spinach, onions and tomato, toast and home fries.. and of course a pancake order for the table.. service was fantastic and the outdoor seating was nice.. they might benefit from some shade or umbrellas, but at 8 am it was not an issue.. if you're looking for a fantastic breakfast, dog friendly is a plus, but I'd recommend even without a dog.. very glad it came up in our search read more

Small and unassuming place. Passed by many times and haven't stopped until today. We considered Pascal & Sabine but it was very expensive and decided to try here. Loved the signs on the walls, very retro and cute. Our server, Joseph, was fantastic and very kind. He made some recommendations and spent time explaining some menu items. The food came out fairly quick and it was delicious. We had the Asbury Croissant and the Texas Grilled Cheese. Both were phenomenal. Great choice and a fraction of the cost of other places. Yum! A fresh egg salad sandwich on toasted multi-grain bread. Egg salad should be FRESH and at the Chat and Nibble it is exactly that ... and it is delicious! The toasting of the bread gives the sandwich a very light crunch as does the bright green lettuce. The egg salad itself is moist and flavorful and today the sandwich included a couple of thin slices of tomato. It comes with a side and twice now I have chosen coleslaw which is creamy and colorful with carrot slivers. A terrific old school combination that is truly crave-able! I've been here for breakfast many times but finally decided to give their lunch a try. I was very pleased. I opted for the chicken salad club with a side of macaroni salad-- everything was nice & fresh, including the lettuce & tomato in the sandwich. It was clear the salads were homemade (and not too mayo-y, which I hate!). Very tasty! Service was excellent. I love the shabby diner ambiance. The walls could probably use a good washing & perhaps a new coat of paint, but it's places like these that are the heart of Asbury Park. I met my daughters and their friends here Sunday morning for breakfast. We were seated in the patio out back. It was a delightful spot! There were 10 of us altogether. The staff was delightful. The menu selection was awesome- there was even a separate menu for benedicts (which I love). I had a Benedict with spinach and avocado, hash browns and a fruit salad. Delicious! Everyone enjoyed their meal. My husband commented on the generous portion size. This is a gem and I recommend looking it up. My phone died so no pictures of the food. read more

Guess im gonna be THAT person that drops a 2 star review on this place. Trust me, i was very disappointed in this place, and i hate to do this. I have driven past this place for years and i have trolled the reviews for just as long. Im rarely a 1 and done kinda gal, but its gonna take alot to make me come back. first off, id like to say the staff and service was great. this place was packed, but everything ran smoothly and we were served in a timely fashion. The food is what turned me off. Crab cake benedict? Oh my lord, i was excited. side of breakfast potatoes were uncooked and lacked flavor. it would have been nice to get a few more minutes of cooking in so the edges were crispy. There was not enough hollaindaise sauce on my eggs. my eggs were VERY runny. and now...the crab cake. i knew by looking at them, that something would be off. they were incredibly dark as if they were on a high flame, and pretty flat. once i bit into them, i wanted to cry. so much filler and they were so mooshy. the crab meat tasted incredibly fake to me. imitation crab? well lets be clear, this dish was around $10 so what was i expecting? fresh soft shell crab from maryland? lol. anyway, i basically just ate the eggs and kept it moving. i tried my friends dulce de leche french toast. hard pass on this one too. the toast needed a better cook, the dulce inside wasnt warmed up and too thick. overall i think it was undercooked. read more

I've driven past this place so many times in the last five years or so and never tried it. Went in around 11:30 in the morning and found it almost packed, had to wait about 10 minutes to get a table for two. We ordered the Huevos Rancheros (+chorizo) and the weekend special grilled cheese. Amazing, delicious food. The chorizo was one of the best I've ever had, anywhere. The rancheros sauce (got it extra on the side later) complimented the beans and eggs perfectly, again something I've never had in a lot of American establishments. The grilled cheese had onions in it which lended it a sweet taste that went well with the saltiness of the cheese. Great service, prices and portions. I had breakfast here around 10:00am on Saturday morning. There are 2 tables outside and both were open so we decided to eat here with the dog. We split the Chicken and Waffles and Jersey Benedict. The Chicken and Waffles were very good, good waffle and nice crispy chicken tenders on top with a little powdered sugar. The Jersey Benedict had pork roll and a slice of American cheese along with the usuals. It was really good, the hollandaise was tasty and the slice of American really added a lot to it. Unfortunately the poached egg was overcooked and not runny, that would have probably made this a 5 star review. Our server was great, she even brought out a water bowl for the dog. Service was short on friendliness although we did manage to get a thank you for coming as we left but certainly not while being waited on or served. Server looked miserable that day. But who knows what they could be going through. I don't take it personal. Food was okay. We all had eggs Benedict with salmon. Hash browns was basically frozen potato fried patties. The food is good and solid. Unfortunately, they either don't staff enough people or have wait staff that isn't well trained. Several times, I've had bad experiences in ordering in and out. I work in the service industry as well and a bit of kindness and efficiently go a long way. The staff often seems annoyed here. I was left on hold for 7 minutes and then they put the phone down when I was in the middle of my order to not return. In person we waiting 20 minutes for someone to come to our table. Over easy, just like a day down the shore Found Chat & Nibble on Yelp while searching for a breakfast spot to fuel up before hitting the beach for the day. A spontaneous trip 'down the shore' had us Upstate New Yorkers rolling into this sleepy beach town during the early morning hours on summer's final Saturday (a scorcher!), catching an incredible sunrise over the Atlantic before the hunger pains kicked into overdrive. It's important to stop and sea life's beauty, ya know? However, with peak season essentially behind us, there weren't a *ton* of breakfast options from which to choose, and since we wanted to be on the beach, toes in the sand NLT 9 am, we didn't want to stray too far from homebase. So while we later posted up on Ocean Grove Beach for the day, we found this gem down the boardwalk in Asbury Park, and I'm quite thankful Chat & Nibble was open *and* delivered. First of all, not sure where they get off putting the word "nibble" in their name, because their portions are quite generous. ;) Second of all, we were the first people in there, cruising in at a respectable 7:25 am, so cheers to being an early bird (hold the worms). I strayed from my go-to Eggs Benny to go for the house favorite, Huevos Rancheros, when our awesome server said it's their most popular dish, and "aye de mi!" it was incredible!! Two eggs over easy, and generous portions of black beans, avocado, salsa & tortilla ($9.95). I do love a good chorizo sausage, so I tacked that on for an extra $3.95, but was a little hesitant; you see, every time I have the opportunity order chorizo, I cross my fingers and hope I don't get something that more closely resembles the consistency of a hot dog, ya know? Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love a good hot dog (have you read my review for New Way Lunch?), but I guess I prefer a less processed/more meaty texture. So to my delight, I experienced the crisp crunch of that first juicy bite, and the perfect blend of ground meat redolent with pungent spices and seasoning. It was some of *the best* chorizo I've ever had, no exaggeration. Having done some chorizo research since my visit, apparently there are two kinds of chorizos out there: Mexican and Spanish, so maybe I have to dive deeper into the facts to get to the bottom of this chorizo saga... but I'm pretty sure I enjoyed the Mexican style this time around. I was a little taken aback by the presentation at first; not because it was sloppy or unattractive, but because it was plated as more of a "build-your-own" style, with all the ingredients in separate piles, similar to my OCD cousin's plate at Thanksgiving Dinner; I guess I'm more accustomed to an "already stacked," set up, but hey, I just had to put a little more work into each bite, that's all. Worth it. Super savory and flavorful, with just the right amount of heat for an early morning breakfast followed by a day at the beach (not sure if I completely thought that through, but everything worked out). My friend ordered the traditional Eggs Benny (they have a menu of about seven from which to choose!), the presentation looked great, but the flavor was a little lackluster, so I was extra pumped that I made the right choice. The interior decor was super cute, outfitted with old school vintage and vintage-inspired coffee and breakfast signage, with some LGBT love sprinkled in there, too. I will note I thought their gender neutral bathroom sign was a pretty cool touch, displaying a respectable She-He-They trio of today's modern lavatory user. The dining room was clean, neat, and tidy, with cute two and four-top tables accompanied by chairs with matching purple leather upholstery, and booths lining the tiny perimeter forming a tight but navigable grid. I was tempted to pop a seat at the breakfast counter (so cute!), but we opted for a cozy booth right ip front by the window; great windows and a lots of natural light. This was actually my first trip 'down the shore' but I was mega impressed with the famed Asbury Park, and it's Victorian counterpart down the boardwalk, Ocean Grove. I will most definitely be planning a real, more thoughtfully planned trip here next summer, and I can't wait to explore even further! read more

Chat and Nibble is a lil breakfast/lunch spot on Asbury. Inside is very no frills mom and pop spot with a counter. They sell things like omelets and pancakes etc... I ordered something to go. Service is eh - friendly but young and inexperienced I would say . When I called to place my order , I wasn't sure if it was this place because the person didn't identify lol. I had ask " is this chat and nibble" lol. I would give only two - three stars for service BUT my Taylor Ham and cheese sandwich was really good. They have my salt , pepper and ketchup on the side which was perfect. There are some tables outside in the front you can sit at which was not appealing since you only will see the traffic going by on Asbury Ave. I did see some photos on Yelp that there is a back patio you can sit. Haven't been to Chat & Nibble in a while so we decided to pop in for a late breakfast. Other than the physical menu (same selections just new menus) the decor hasn't changed one bit. The decor is simple. A cross between a diner and your favorite hole in the wall greasy spoon but not greasy if you know what I mean. You are coming for good food at a great value (even with the credit card surcharge if you don't pay with cash) The food had always been spot on and consistent so I was hoping for the same. We ordered Huevos Rancheros (my usual), Mediterranean Omelette and the Nova Scotia Eggs Benedict. Everyone got home fries (homemade) or hash brown (not homemade) as sides. The food was delicious and perfect. Great portions. You won't leave hungry. Food came out pretty fast but it wasn't too busy. It can be a little slow when it's busy but good things come to those who wait. If you want a good consistent breakfast without the Asbury overcrowding, Chat & Nibble is the spot. read more

Cute little place you could miss if you are not looking for it. The staff is super friendly and the meal was delicious. So many items on the menu to choose from. My love for Eggs Benedict drew me to the Eggs Blackstone which had avocado and spinach. Let me tell you it came out steaming hot and was the perfect size. I had home fries on the side and it was very good. I would have liked them a little more well done and if I had asked I'm sure they would have made it that way. Plenty of booth, table and bar seating. I was able to score a booth near the window since I got there early on a Saturday morning also in winter. Let me count the ways I loved Chat and Nibble! There are many! This little breakfast joint has an amazing menu, but they have some specialty items only avaible on the weekend! My French toast loving companion needed one of their fancy French toast creations and with a simple request they were able to make what he wanted happen! The place was short staffed. I overheard someway say the second waitress had to leave early but Rich our server was still on it! Refills, food prepared as requested, and super friendly service were all still a part of what we got from him! My omelette was good, but the stuffed french toast was the clear breakfast winner. The French toast didn't look like much on the plate but when you cut into it this amazingly gooey egg custard with the perfect amount of sweetness just oozed out. So fricken good! My Hangover omelette had Potatoes, sausage, onions and cheese well down like I asked. Fluffy, presented nicely with a nice serving of delicious home fried potatoes. At the end of our meal Rich realized we were out of towners and sat down with us to give us the some tips for our day. The only suggestion I have for this place is that there was a strong dampness smell that near the table we sat at. I know it's a beach area but it was the first thing we noticed when we walked in and is something that the owners can certainly address. I love Asbury Park! This is the third time I've been to Chat & Nibble and we love it. I had Chorizo and Scrambled eggs and they were so yummy. Hubby had the Huevos Rancheros which was outstanding. Everything was super fresh. My girlfriend got the fish and grits, which she also gave the thumbs up. Fish has a nice well seasoned coating. Our party is 6 was happy with the food which has been consistently good over the years. The service was excellent. My only complaint is that it was hot in there even with the AC on. Other than that, a perfect experience. And in spite of that, I would still come back and recommend. read more
