I sat in Ken's chair after a very long day and showed him a couple reference pictures: a no frills, messy men's cut with some texture (choppy, mod-ish). He immediately protested, stating my hair was WAY too thin (I have thick hair with a wave) and inspiring zero confidence in his ability to produce an even slightly similar VIBE - which is all I was looking for. After he said something along the lines of "I mean, I GUESS I could try", I felt defeated and asked for a trim. He scoffed and started asking about the trim. "So...we can keep the flow look" he said. I said yes please, it's just so thick in the back. He scoffed at me, because he had just gone on about how thin my hair was, then said something about fading it up. I said no thanks. He asked how much I wanted off. I said, "I'm not sure, maybe a half inch?". He said, "A HALF inch? I GUESS, but" and then under his breath, "that's not gonna really do anything...". I immediately removed the gown thing and he protested like a bad ex. "Let me explain something to YOU", he said. I excused myself. I went somewhere else, showed the hairdresser the same pictures, and got exactly what I was looking for. So disappointing. All that to say, every other experience I have had at Boardroom has been excellent, and hope that this was a one-off. I would recommend folks make up their own minds.

The great thing about EMG is that once you find your barber, they can become everything you'd want your barber to be - in my case, Tony didn't just offer a great haircut. In our conversations, he actually put me on a path that changed my life. I am forever grateful to the staff and crew of EMG, and from my time in Phoenix they will be one of the things I DESPERATELY miss. Oh - and with regards to my previous issues with them, once I installed the Fresha app on my phone, booking became super easy. I do still think that they would benefit from asking if you want to book your next appointment in-advance (because honestly I sometimes forget to do so and then next thing I know, a month has gone by and my hair looks like a rat's nest), but I feel like once you've found your barber at EMG, stick with them, make a relationship with them, and you'll find a barber that you'll want for the rest of your life. It was an ass chewing session out in public on the street. Boss screaming at an employee. Totally awful situation! I walked in and told them I am here. The receptionist said the owner will be available shortly. I asked if the lady screaming her lungs out at the hair stylist on the street will be cutting my hair and they said yes. Well is she ok to cut my hair? I don't want super angry person who cannot handle her emotions to cut my hair at the moment of anger...I am having these thoughts for few minutes and realized that I cannot condone this kind of behavior. I told the screaming owner who was still going at it with her employee on the street that this is inappropriate and I will not be her customer. So I left! PS: after posting the review the owner of the business left a comment below indicating they she was not screaming at her employee, and I had no right to place picture on Yelp, and I don't know what was going on! She was screaming at her employee about work related stuff which was clear, and she was red in her face how drastic it was! Her employees gave me permission to take a picture of them for Yelp review at the time when I was hoping to use their service and as an elite Yelper I always ask before taking pictures. Employees also indicated that the owner was unhappy with that particular person but they offered a different stylist which I declined on principle.
