We reached here from Dublin, very late in the night... and we had a shuttle booked to take us to Paddington Station. Somehow due to daylight savings, it got messed up and the Bus arrived 1 hr late... not a pleasant experience. The airport is not that huge, and it's easy to navigate. We got our luggage in no time (it was like 1 AM, so ofcourse no rush was there) and we were the only ones there. ofcourse it's too far from central London and they have Luton Airport Express. to reach LTN - simply hop on a train at St Pancras International to arrive at Luton Airport Parkway, and then take a DART Shuttle to the terminal, all in as little as 32 minutes. It's a fast and seamless way to get to the departure gate. easy check-in, security was quick and hassle-free... lots of shops to browse (or buy) or restaurants to eat... standard Starbucks, Costa, Burger King, MS Simply food. and ofcourse it's cheaper ;) read more

Nice airport the staff are friendly and helpful it's smaller than the other airports, but easier to navigate . You don't need the pound you can use your card so that helps, no need to do a currency exchange either . LTN is small, easy to navigate, and way further outside of central London than I thought it would be. Luckily our flight was early, so our Uber from the city only took about 45 minutes, but plan ahead if you are coming from a distance during rush hour. For comparison's sake, when we were heading home we had to go from LTN to LHR in the middle of the afternoon, and that drive took almost 80 minutes. Once in LTN, I did notice that there were a LOT of security lines. They move pretty quickly too, as long as you have the very specifically-sized plastic bag for your toiletries. As of writing this that's still a rule - one I'm hoping they get rid of soon. Unlike most other airports, you won't know your gate right away. There's a "central area" with food and shopping that you hang out in until your gate is assigned, and then everyone meanders through a bunch of small and narrow hallways to the actual gates that, themselves, have very little space to wait. So once you're there, you're boarding via jet bridge (or walking outside to get to your bus that'll take you to your plane). I'd say get here somewhat early, don't forget about your very specific plastic bag, grab some Pret, and wait it out until your gate is listed on the board. Once it is, there's no sense in waiting, especially if you paid for speedy boarding. read more

Flying out of Luton to Prague on Easyjet was a good experience. There's a train and shuttle directly to the airport. It's spacious and check in went quickly. There are cafes and restaurants, but if you have access to the Aspire Lounge, take it. It's looking out onto the airport and a relaxing space. read more

Other than being annoying to get to, this airport does what it needs to do. The check in process was well-organized, and security was efficient. There are plenty of shops for you to get what you want from Marks and Spencer or grab a bite to eat (I was surprised to see they have a Kristy Kreme in the concourse). It was an interesting experience flying into this airport with EasyJet. First, we had to disembark on the runway, walk across the tarmac, and only then did we get into the actual airport, where we then had to climb stairs and walk thru long customs queue to get our baggage. And it was only once we hit the baggage claim area, where there any toilets available! One of the loos was closed and the other one was in a very grimy and stinky state. The airport is going thru renovation (in Dec 2018) and so it's a good 5 min walk, to get to a pick up area for cars. Its fine if you are using public transport, but if you have a private car coming to pick you up, be prepared for a long walk thru the chill! This is the airport that the low-budget planes go to. You can tell that it's made for the low-budget planes because it's kind a low budget inside also. We got off the plane and walked down the steps outside and walked across the tarmac into the building. You have to walk down a long hallway which is painted in 1970s mid military yellow. The staff in there clearly are paid enough because they are all cranky. Nobody is friendly and nobody is helpful. The bathrooms are few and far between you have to walk a long way to locate one. Then if you need to get in Uber if you have to walk literally a mile to get to the UBER pickup place. Yes you have to walk outside that distance. The taxis are allowed to drive up close to the building but UBER not so much. We didn't check any bags so I cannot comment on the baggage claim. There were several options to get food inside which is nice and a desk to buy train tickets or bus tickets should you need it. Bus from that location to Heathrow was 27 pounds per person! Insane. Our group of five took an uberxl. I think the cost was about 100 pounds. Beware if you're doing that trip during business hours because I hear the traffic gets pretty crazy. In conclusion, this is not an airport anybody goes to by choice you just get stuck there. It's inconvenient in its location and it's not the nicest of the bunch. read more

I use all London airports and this one is definitely the worst, by a huge margin. You pay £2 here to DROP SOMEONE OFF. Another £1 for ziplocs for security The metal detector is clearly set to randomly go off for extra searches. I've never set one off in my life, and today it went off despite the fact that I had nothing but cotton on my body. No jewelry, no shoes, I don't even have pockets in this clothing. There was, without question, not a single thing on my body that could set off a metal detector at even the highest settings. And then there are the waits. No seats, no elevator for disabled people and strollers, nothing. They told a disavled woman in front of me: "Oh yeah, they really should have warned you beforehand, this isn't very disability friendly. No apology of course. Oh, and expect to be ordered to your gate a full hour before your flight, "for boarding" only to then spend an hour and a half standing at a closed door for the ACTUAL boarding for your inevitably delayed flight. London Luton is with out a doubt London's worst airport. Not only is it impossible to get to from central without a car (you need to coordinate several overground rail lines) but it must also be one of the most soulless places ever created. The ceilings are low, the lighting is terrible and generally it makes you feel as though this is not a place that you want to spend any real length of time. When I visited here last Easter I found the staff particularly rude and unhelpful. I asked three different people whether I was in the right place and none of them could be bothered to answer me. The shops in Luton are fairly generic as far as airports go. Expect to find a couple of electrical goods stores, some perfume shops and an Assessorize. If, like me, you find these all a bit uninspired then your best bet will probably be WH Smith for a bit of reading material. Being delayed here for an extra four hours was probably one of the most boring days of my life. Apparently Luton is the most popular airport for people flying to Scotland. If I could give you any advice it would be to take the train instead. read more

Firstly I feel I have been generous with the two stars but the airport does provide flights to places I need to get to hence it gets two stars. Why is it called London Luton when anyone who knows London knows Luton is not in London, so why the pretence? Anyway every time I have to use this place they seem to be in the process of building/updating something or is it just a way to disguise how bad an airport it really is. While it is not the size of Gatwick and Heathrow (which you can also argue are not in London) it lacks any kind of quality everything, to me, looks past its sell by date and should be put out of its misery. They have plenty of checkin counters but not enough staff, sound familiar? The most check in staff I have seen is when the place is empty almost all the checking had staff in them why? There are seating areas before security but they are limited and not the most comfortable.the toilets are small and look in dire need of a refurb(perhaps they are next?) I stood to dry my hands and then realised I was blocking the exit, why put hand dries so you block the entrance/exit? They have the standard Starbucks, Costa, Burger King WHSmiths and boots before security. If you are dropping some one off it will cost you £2.50 for the pleasure of opening your boot to take out suitcases, complete rip off. I can't fault this airport. I travel from here regularly and it is one of the better ones. Recently revamped a little bit, there is more to offer on the departure side and more selection of places to eat and drink as well as shop. Getting through security they tend to have a good ratio of open lanes to passengers, so you're not waiting an age. I find this one if the easiest A-B airports in London. It's my preferred airport for short trips. read more

This is the worst airport in the UK. Currently it's being remodelled and the outside drop off area is very confusing - lots of traffic cones and 'no entry' signs. Inside, the check in area is dire. A lot of the shops are closed or boarded off so there is very little to choose from. The lighting is harsh and the whole experience is very uncomfortable. Security is even worse. You have to pay a pound for two little plastic bags to put your liquids in. Most airports distribute them for free. If you don't have a pound coin, you'll need to buy something to get change. Hopeless if you're travelling outside the UK and have no UK currency left. Or you could do what I did and complain, only for a (free) bag to be slammed into the desk in front of me in sullen silence. Security staff were pleasant but seemed to be unnecessarily checking everyone's bag for liquids. I had no contraband liquids and had everything in my (free) plastic bag but was still had my bag pulled, and had to wait under scorching lighting for at least ten minutes until it was checked for a random liquid test. The departure lounge is a bit better. The usual shops - WH Smith, Boots, Pret etc. Uncomfortable though, no seating areas away from the main thoroughfares so there aren't any quiet spots to relax. Currently, I am waiting for my flight trapped in a situation that I can only describe as Kaftaesque. The Easyjet app wasn't working so I couldn't check in before I got to the airport. When I got to the airport I was advised that I couldn't get a seat because I hadn't checked in online. I was there at least three hours early. I was sent to a desk. They couldn't help me. They sent me to the gate. They couldn't help me. I called Easyjet and was met with the standard response of 'I understand' (but I'm not going to help you in the slightest). So now, I wait. And see if every other passenger turns up before I find out if I get to go home tonight or not. Because of course, being Luton airport, and having no train transport links to anywhere, I have limited options. And being Easyjet, they've overbooked the flight like the cheap money grabbing swines they are. read more

This is a small, budget airport. It's about an hour outside of London by bus, 30-40 minutes by train. A single anytime day fare by train is £15 and includes bus transfer from the train station to the airport. Bus fare varies by service provider, but I've found an £4.99 fare on Easybus. I've flown out of Heathrow, Stansted, and Gatwick, and Luton, and this airport is my least favorite of the bunch. Pros: - You don't have to walk 10-15 min just to get to the gates like Stansted or Gatwick - Once you get to the outside of the airport, you don't have to take a train or another form of transport to get inside the airport to departures (like Gatwick) - The EasyJet check-in was decent with a lot of places for bag drop, etc. We were there at 6 am for a 7:30 am flight and it was fine, the bag drop went by fairly quickly. - Lot of cheap flights with EasyJet. Cons: - Security line can be pretty long so allow a lot of time; we were there early in the morning and waited 20-25 min, but I imagine it can be even worse. This was my experience at 6 am on a Monday morning. - Food options are really limited, with your best option being a Wasabi or Pret a Manger. - There is not a lot of seating/waiting area and people love to stand in the way of all the walkways trying to see when their gate will appear on the screens. People, move over out of the way - you don't need to stand directly in front of the screen in the middle of the walkway. - There are no trains to and from the airport like the other 3 (LHR, Stansted, Gatwick), so you will have to take a coach. It's fine in the morning, but the traffic can be bad so plan accordingly if you have a flight in the afternoon or during times when it can be trafficky. I prefer to know I can get to and from the airport in 45 min, so I prefer to fly in and out of the other airports. - The airport itself looks pretty rundown and old. - The WiFi was spotty and slow, and wouldn't work half the time. Poor old Luton airport - the butt of jokes about charter flights, the Cinzano advert and that ghastly 70's pop song. But I rather like it: sure, it's not going to win any architectural awards, but once inside it has an easily navigable and spacious check-in hall; a short walk to security and a relatively short walk to the gates. Over 92% of their traffic now comes from scheduled flights. And I think it's well run: they seem to have coped rather better with the new security regime than London's BAA airports, for example: I used it at Christmas when bad fog caused chaos everywhere else, and it was a cinch: I was through passport control and security in about 3 minutes. The contrast with Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted was glaring. And it's surprisingly easy to get to: close to the M1; 8 trains an hour from central London and beyond (OK, there's a bus shuttle from Luton Airport Parkway, but I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes, and it's free); and loads of parking. The only downer is the relatively small number of shops and restaurants airside compared with the other London airports, (and a concomitant lack of seats if anything goes wrong) but I'm not one of those who views airports as a great shopping opportunity. I want a drink, maybe a newspaper or book, and to board my flight. However you regard the increase in flying per se, Luton has, to my mind, deserved the 400% increase in traffic over the last ten years. I only hope they manage to maintain the level of service as they expand. read more

Anything you are able to do online before arriving (checking in, printing your boarding pass, upgrading, etc) you should do. I was once exicted about flying from 'London Luton Airport' but the novelity has long worn off for me. I think that is because I have realised that when the REALLy cheap flights are offered it is because you have to leave your house at 4am or because you miss the last train back to my house in Wimbledon. This airport is easy to navigate. Inside depatures you have the check-in desks in the warehouse in front of you. If you have checked in already turn left and walk past the bar and food offerings to go straight to the VERY LONG queue for secruity. This took 30mins last time I left Luton and I was pleasd that this was quick. Airside you will find the usual airport Boots, WH Smith, win a car for a lotery ticket, pub, seats etc. The gates are sually quite close to this lounge area and the airside shopping is practical and relativily quiet. This is a home of budget airlines, but check out the Harrods Aviation private jets and Learjets around when taxi-ing, it seems rich people use London Luton Airport too! read more

This was the worst airport I went to in London and I've been to four of them. My friends and I went really late at night because we had an early morning flight. When we got there everything was closed and there was barely any seating except at Starbucks and we had to buy something just to sit in the lounge area. Everything was under construction and they didn't accommodate for that very well. Also, there was a very drunk construction worker there that was harassing one of my friends and the other people in the lounge area, too. He even dropped his bottle of Jack Daniels, which shattered and spilled everywhere so that an airport worker had to come clean it up. He then proceeded to get taken away by security three separate times after my friend and the Starbucks worker alerted security. I don't know why they kept letting him get back in the area. Overall, it was a very uncomfortable and unsafe situation, which is unusual at airports and I've been to many. Worst experience I've had at an airport honestly. read more

It's usually quite crowded but security never takes too long and walking to your gate is quite short as well, since the airport is not huge. There is a great bookstore with a good selection and I always grab a beer before my flight at the pub located in the middle. Overall, it gets the job done. read more

I'm really not going to say much about Luton airport as it doesn't require too many words to describe what a cheap and nasty shambles this place is. I'll sum it up for you in two points: 1). Laughably, you can't use the escalator up to the security checkpoint unless you pay for the fast track service. 2). They are that tight that you have to pay £1 for a ball of plastic bags to put your hand luggage liquids in. Unsurprisingly none of this is advertised or pointed out in helpful signs - you only find out whilst in the semi organised scrum of a few hundred people all piling towards the roped queue lines at the top of the stairs. This was my first time in Luton Airport and I must say when I touched down into Luton (from Glasgow) I wasn't very impressed...it would be a 2 star review. Reasons being are the Check In/Arrivals side is pretty bleak. I'm not sure if it's always that dull looking or if a few bulbs were out? Not a great choice of cafes or shops either. There's no more excitement in variety or what's on offer than at your average large train station. Signage for the buses and other areas are quite well signposted and the buses that take you to Luton Parkway train station (that then take you to London St Pancras) aren't free but don't cost too much (I think it was about £1.60 for an open return ticket) and seem to be fairly regular (I was only waiting a few minutes) & are those looong bendy buses which are always quite fun to travel on. When I came back to depart from Luton it was a like a different airport ~ Airside/after security it is so much brighter & seems like a much more cheerful place. The queues for security were quite long but then they usually are & you're kept moving quite steadily. Once through it really is a lot nicer. I had about an hour to pass so I wandered around the MAC counter and then onto the Duty Free shop for some perfume & goodies. Then I remembered why Luton was actually superior to Stanstead or other London-based airports...IT HAS A KRISPY KREME!! Oh my yas. So that was me for my remaining time before I boarded ~ loaded myself & a box full of those delicious KK sweet-sweet goodies to take all the way back to Glasgow. Happy days. The departure gate where I was waiting to board was a bit odd in that it only had 4 seats which I found a wee bit mean, however luckily EasyJet don't seem to keep you hanging on for too long (and you know what I noticed; people LOVE to queue! Even though they don't need to as we all have designated seating, they still LOVE to stand in a big queue! Crazy) and before I knew it I was on my plane. I'm pretty sure this place was the setting of a bad 80's slasher flick. It really does scream "you might die here". Not in an overly dramatic way, I didn't actually fear for my life during my brief visit but with the grey walls, winding corners and general "prison" feel to it: this airport is straight out of a horror set. Plus, have you been in those bathrooms? Scary. I flew into Luton completely by accident. For some reason, I thought I had booked into Stansted, an airport that doesn't do much more in the pretty department, but at least one that I know how to get to and from easily. But instead, my fat fingers accidentally booked Luton and I found myself on this sunny Friday afternoon in the middle of a large crowd of people, looking all together confused on how the hell I actually get into the city. Turns out, it's actually not that hard to navigate, once you catch the eye of someone helpful. That might take a little bit of time in and of itself, as everyone here seems... upset about life. But thankfully, there was one lovely lady at the ticket booth who took pity on me and led me in the right direction. You need to hop the shuttle to the train or grab a bus into town - both options will take you about 45 minutes in total. It seems a little convoluted but hey, it works. Seeing as there are so many other airport options, with less confusing, wifi having routes into town, I don't think Luton will make my list of top airports any time soon. With it's bare bones, utilitarian feel and general angstiness (sure, it's a word), unless there was some REALLY spectacular deal, i'd likely pass. read more

New highlights are: - The dropoff parking fee. - The way the machines dont work when you put in more than the dropoff parking fee (what other machine in the world doesnt work when you overpay?). - The attendant blaming you for putting in more money than the parking fee (cant blame him really - Id be angry all the time if I worked here) - The horrible roadworks which tie you up in a knot when you leave the airport - one wrong turn and you are back on the road to nowhere. - The queues that prevent you getting to your gate, when another flight in the gate next door is boarding. Total Hell. Possibly the worst airport I have flown from/to. XRay machines broken waiting by the machine for 20 minutes as it was broken. Other machines were broken and staff were sending people to a second broken x ray. Most of the staff were just stood around chatting with their hands in their pockets doing nothing. When you interacted with the security staff they just seemed uninterested and verging on rude. They were not bothered about the customer what so ever. If your arriving into Luton Airport expect a hold up of about an HOUR to clear passport control and collect bags. Basically I hate you. Ok, that's harsh. But really, Luton is the worst. Not worse than Gatwick, however. I've flown out of here twice now and been irritated by security pulling me aside for random screenings both times. I fly a lot. A LOT. And this random screening never happens anywhere but Luton. This time, the security guard knew I was running late and still unpacked my entire bag. Everything. I've never had that happen in my entire life. 'What are you looking for?' I asked. 'Just a random check'. A random check does not mean they take everything out and swipe your bags. He was also not apologetic and didn't even explain why. Jerk. The only reason I didn't miss the plane was that I was lucky the gate was nearby. In addition, not only do you need to buy a rail ticket to get here, but you have to pay for the shuttle bus as well. The check-in desks weren't too busy, getting through security was an absolute breeze, and there were a few options for food an shopping before the flight (though, if you arrive for a later flight, not so much--it seems most of the airport shops close before 21:00). So the airport itself probably wins at least a 3-star rating. The problem is getting there. How the hell does Luton earn London in its name when it's at least 25 minutes via train (non-stopping service--up to 50 minutes otherwise)? And unless you live near St. Pancras, it's not super easy or super efficient to get to Luton. Not only that, but if you take the train to Luton Airport Parkway, they have the audacity to charge £1.60 for the bus--something that should be a complimentary service from the airport. Based on my recent experience flying from Luton, I'd rather pay an extra £100 for a ticket from Heathrow than deal with the hassle of getting here and flying on a budget airline. Bad customer service - person manning the security check snapped at me and told me to be patient when I asked why my luggage was diverted onto a separate track. Slow wifi offered by the airport - my pages either won't load or will take ages to load small bits of data. Incredibly inconvenient to get here from central London - needed to take the Thameslink train and then a non-airport-sponsored bus to the actual airport itself. Only reason to use this airport would be if you could land a good discount airline deal. If not, just stick to Heathrow. read more
