I feel the same way about Terminal 5A as I do about Terminal 3. Going through security here can be a hit or miss experience, but I totally appreciate the thoroughness and care taken to keep us all safe. The long walk to the bus transfer between terminals is really what brings the rating down. It's always very crowded due to the fact that it's the primary terminal for British Airways. I corrected a mistake in my previous review of Terminal 3. The Fortnum & Mason shop is actually in Terminal 5. It's so easy to confuse the two after a long flight. Anyway, this particular location even has a bar in front of it where you can sip on champagne and nibble on canapés (if that's your thing). I just love to browse through the tea & biscuit section of the shop to see what's new. Sure, there are other great shops as well as food options on this side of the airport. I just love F&M tea! The British Airways Gallerie Club and First Lounges are above it. There's also an exclusive lounge called The Concorde Room that I'd love to try one day. So, I've read that British Airways will be starting a new direct route from Tampa to Heathrow (replacing Gatwick) towards the end of this year. I hope that this means it will arrive at BA's Terminal 5 hub. If so, then I'll be super grateful for the convenience of a smooth connection. If not, then I'll just be happy to have more connection possibilities to other countries. Either way, I'm thinking this is great for OneWorld travelers booking through American Airlines out of TPA. I transited through Heathrow on the way from Madrid, Spain back to the US. It was a fairly easy transit process, with lots of signage to point you in the right direction. My flight was leaving from one of the satellite Gates in terminal five, and the Heathrow staff very kindly suggested I head that way with plenty of time. The terminal is clean with lots of seating at the gate. The announcements were clear and easy to understand, and the boarding process was a breeze. As someone who lived in the UK for a couple of years, I always love transiting through Heathrow so I can stop at boots to pick up a couple of my favorite drugstore items. There's tons of shopping in terminal five as well as several dining options. read more

Flewe out of Heathrow the other day and it was a mediocre experience. I found the airport to be quity stuffy as if they forgot to turn on the air conditioning. I love how the Picadilly line drops me off directly at Terminal 5, although it took me a couple tries to get on board a train that stops at Terminal 5! The priority security is helpful for premium cabin passengers although the rules at the airport weren't clear. For example, I was scolded for wearing my belt while it seemed that liquids up to 2L were permitted?!? The walk and tram to the B gates is misleadingly quite far, probably a 15-20 minute walk/ride. There are also limited food options once at the B gates, which are also extremely stuffy... read more

A major hub between the East and West, London's Heathrow has ranked in the top three busiest airports in the world. It has now has the added honor and distinction of being one of the cleanest, smooth, efficient, safe, nicest and happiest airports. Gone are the experiences of the 90's and that era of long lines in security and check in, long waits at baggage claim, tedious terminal transfer and traffic jams coming in and exiting. 1/29/26 - bright and happy staff at 5:50 am, immaculate and bright airport, team member standing outside the First Class Lounge welcoming and directing all, (great lounge btw with ample and spread out seating on very comfy sofas, great hot food, quality beverages and spotless bathrooms and showers); there is an ease in the air and happy folks around everywhere- the hospitality staff, the Boots, souvenir, Macallum, Rolex boutique members. There was a smooth flow despite the airport having a lot of delayed and cancelled flights coming in post storm in the US. The airport is easy to get around and there are info booths and the best part - there is an employee to assist literally every 100 feet. I also got to mail out some cards via a bright red Royal Mail box smack in the middle of Terminal 5. 5 Stars! read more

Chaos, chaotic, test your anxiety...but hey there are good options! Seating is limited while waiting for gate assignment. Airport all were extremely helpful. Water bottle refill stations that actually worked were an added bonus. You can definitely complete any final shopping that you missed while in London. read more

By far my favorite terminal if it's a bit of a long layover or going internationally as it has plenty of places to eat, shop and wonder around. It is however, a much busier terminal than 1-4 and bigger. Signs clearly show you how long it would take to get to your gate (at an englishman's pace) and note that for gates B & C taking transit is recommended. The terminal itself is set with the hub in the middle where there's seating and charging stations (cables provided ) , with clear view of the gate information board. Note that you will be assigned a gate ONLY 45min before your flight, so stay alert if you arrive early or fall asleep, as you're not by your plane while you wait. Amenities: bathrooms and water fountains, small indoor playground for kids, prayer room, quiet areas, food and shopping. Unlike terminal 2, there are plenty of eateries and shopping scattered through the gates, as well as upstairs. FYI, the Crown (pub) by gate A6, has hot drinks with free refills and to go cups. Overall the terminal is kept cleaned. Final note: this is a British Airways terminal. If you run into issues with your flight or need to make changes but you're booked by a flight that's operated by someone else (i.e. AA, iberia, etc), they are unable to help in customer service. That is the reason why I took a star away. They should have a representative or an access point to a phone that transfers to the airline desk wherever they are in the airport to assist passengers with what they need. read more

The main connecting airport for us whenever we're heading to Scotland. It's a massive international airport so you could easily get lost if you don't know where you're going. Some terminal you connect on the tram while others you also have to get off the tram and get to a gate to hop on a shuttle bus. It can be confusing. With our layover, it tends to be terminal 5 sometimes 3. Even when landing from LA and getting off the plane, you're still going through security again. Terminal 5 as I do love their shopping experience. There's loads of high end shops for all the designers lover. Except they're in the process of renovation and loads of stores are at temporary spaces. Besides loads of shopping, their restaurants options aren't that many. Give or take 2 maybe 3 that's like a full restaurant. You're going to spend a good amount of time there so more restaurants options would help. It's a massive airport that I've been through loads of times. It's alway been a good experiences. A hiccup here and there but alway works out. read more

The food court gives off a classy vibe with upper scale purse stores including three headliners Louis Vuitton, Burberry and Gucci. There are also Tiffany & Co., Dior and Chanel. The Gordon Ramsay Plane Food eatery is located on the second floor. There is also a large money exchange next to the active red Royal Mail Drop with pick up Mon - Fri at 4pm. Well, here we are at Heathrow wondering if this massive amount of people passes through here every day. As I understand that they actually do. I kept waiting for the lines to get shorter and the room is full of people to become less crowded and it didn't happen. The staff was very pleasant, helpful and kind. Flew from Santorini, Greece to Heathrow, London airport terminal 5 with British Airlines . It was a bit of a trek to get to customs and through baggage claim. First, we had to use a subway, walk through some escalators, and then down a long, long hallway. There are plenty of signs to help you figure this out, but if you are lost or have no idea where it is, just ask a staff member, and they will be happy to help. The customs were super short and quick to enter London. If you have a USA passport and you also filled out your paperwork online then you can literally go into this machine without a customs agent and then you just scan your passport, take a quick photo, and then you are off to your adventure! But once all that is settled and you find your luggage then it is pretty much smooth sailing from there. Outside you will find signs for the bus, taxi and if you want to call an Uber you need to find the designated spot which is not clearly marked for some reason. Overall not a bad experience but I could see it being a little bit difficult for people who have never been to this airport. read more

My love language is acts of vacation. Flew into Heathrow from Denver for my first Europe visit. Arrivals in Terminal 5 is easy to navigate through Heathrow. Very clean, but expected a much more prettier airport honestly. Immigration was smooth and super easy if you have nothing to declare and you completed the visa online prior to your trip. The visa was approved before I hit the send button, impressive! And it's good for two years, woot woot. Arrival in Terminal 2 - Queen's Terminal from Portugal was easy breezy and wish I came through here more often. Who would have thought airport shopping could get fancy?!? Flew out of Terminal 5 and that's a hot mess. Departures out of here seem confusing and the wayfinding was not very clear. We had to take a bus then train to our departure gate. British Airways check-in kiosk was slower than sloths running a marathon of peanut butter. Thank goodness we made sure to have two hours. If flying BA even as a world class member, recommend a little more because we made it in time for boarding. You can't hear the announcements and made for a lot of frustrated passengers. Airport is pretty clean with good facilities and sufficient seating in each gate. Very busy and noisy so not the best for napping or working unless you're just reading emails. It is a bit far from our hotel destinations and be warned, with traffic, it took us well over an hour to get to our destination. Have patience and know you are on vacation at least. You have to be careful being happy around unhappy people. read more

This not my first time at this airport however, I've only been here for connections for another destination. Since, I decided to spend three days in London, I finally experienced what Heathrow offered... After leaving the boarding area, I noticed how clean the area was. Then, I noticed how ease of locating the baggage area is. I did stop in one of the restrooms.... it was clean enough for such a busy place. I'm not complaining about that. Before heading to the baggage claim, I had to go through customs. Again, just follow the signs..... the agents had directed us what custom line to go to. Very straight forward. The custom agents had processed the necessary items needed then stamped my passport then on the way I go... By the time, I had reached the baggage claim area, luggage was already on the conveyor belt. From there, I had to make my way to the carshare area which was a little tricky, probably more of my fault since I'm not familiar with this airport. There are three elevators at the parking garage so patience is needed. For being a major airport, it was very well planned out with plenty of dining options, various lounges as well as plenty of seating at the gates. So overall, a good experience at this airport. read more

Awful service. Short story - Had my car for 2 weeks and caused a flat tyre which they drove the car on and refused to rectify. Longer story - dropped car and no faults and tyres all fine and as in pictures were fully inflated. Took screen shot of my app to show milage (like to do this incase they take it out for a drive!) and this shows no faults. Upon collection the rear tyre was totally flat on the rim. Upon pumping it up it wouldn't hold pressure of more than 10psi. So called AA who did a basic bodge repair to get me to a garage, who had to replace the tyre as it was not repairable. Raised issue with Heathrow to be told that the nail was already there and the attached picture is their 'Evidence'. This picture is a total joke and a blurry spec, not where the nail was found' is apparently definitive it was already there. I quote from them"we can see the nail already clearly visible" When I asked for evidence that was useable and I could see, they refused and said irrelevant as not their liability as the driver wasn't negligent. To state otherwise would suggest that vehicles parked with them are left at the owner's risk, which negates the value of valet parking! Avoid using - significantly more than 3rd parties and no better, in fact worse. read more

This place is amazing. We have been hitting some big airports in our travels and Heathrow is certainly at the top of the list. We came in from Kennedy on our way to Warsaw Poland and had a transfer in Terminal 5. That was good as we also came into five. It's a very orderly process to come in, go through customs, security and back to your gate. They actually brief you on it as your coming in. The staff at the airport was great with any questions. Once we went through all the check points we made our way over to the departing gate passing a myriad of stores. It was liking walking down 5th Avenue in NYC. Prada, Fendi, Dior, Tiffany and Rolex. I am sure there were more. Plenty of restaurants too. We ate well on the ride over and only had a three hour layover, one of which was the transfer to this gate. We settled for a light snack and before you know it, back on our plane to Warsaw. Overall, a very nice experience here. My understanding is that the terminal is a fairly new addition to Heathrow, and I was pretty pleased with the amenities, the cleanliness, the ease of check in and security, and my whole experience flying in and out of this terminal. read more

Wonderfully busy airport. Plenty of shopping, wonderful eateries (fast & casual) and bar to suit your needs. Pricing is consistent with major US airports in NY, Chicago, Dallas, Houston and etc). Every major Airline Luxury Club is represented (Admirals, Centurion, Chase Sapphire Reserve, , Plaza Premium Lounges, Club Aspire, British Airways Galleries, Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse, and the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge). Buses are utilized for travel between terminals ---- would be great if there was a train, but current process works. Improvement Opportunity: 5S and Visual Management would greatly improve efficiency and traveler experience. This is the primary reason for 4 stars vs. 5 stars. read more

Friendly staff and pretty sweet amenities at the Plaza Premier Lounge. The eating isn't for the lounge, it's super great. That said, the traffic on the terminal floor is,as always, pretty much off-the-hook crazy. Bern here enough to know what to expect tho! I'm not a high people density kinda guy, but everyone is friendly and thankfully knowledgeable about stuff in the terminal. It's yooge and while signage is significantly better, it's good to have very helpful people to chat up a bit on where to go! I'd say you oughta check it out, but this is one of the gateway airports to not only the UK and Ireland, but also to the continent and beyond, so ummm you're very likely to end up here on one of your bucket list journeys! Today is another weird day at Heathrow--except weird is standard here. I landed in Terminal 5 and my connecting flight is out of the C gates, but when I got to the C gates, security was somehow broken in the ENTIRE concourse, so I had to walk back to where I started, and now am going to the A Gates to clear security, and then have to take the train back to the C gates again. Of course, there was no announcement or even signage indicating this, so I learned about the switch from an airport employee near the C gates. In the grand scheme of things, totally not the end of the world--I've actually never encountered security just being out of commission at a whole concourse anywhere in the world. LOL read more

So I left a review for Heathrow Airport already, but this review is strictly for Terminal 5, which is home to almost all British Airways flights. We went through Terminal 5 to catch our flight to Glasgow (GLA) to get to the island of Islay. The Club Europe check-in line was a little long but it was moving super quickly, and getting our bags checked in and getting our boarding passes afterwards could not have been any quicker. Because we had so many bags with us (both checked and carry on), we ended up using a trolley that we found outside the terminal to bring in with us to the check-in desk, however we could not bring it through security. One mess up that happened was that the ticket agent accidentally, or unknowingly, gave my dad two boarding passes that were in his name, leaving my mom's boarding pass out entirely. This caused my mom to not go through the security gates when she tried to scan her boarding pass. Thankfully, however, my dad had a mobile boarding pass on his phone that had my mom's name on it. Going through security was easy and wasn't busy at all, but my dad's luggage was stopped because of a snow globe I bought from Budapest inside, as he had put it in his carry on instead of his checked bag. I like to buy snow globes from new cities I visit, so luckily, it was not thrown out! He made sure to put it in his checked bag next time so his carry on doesn't get stopped at security again. Take the escalator downstairs to get to your assigned gate after passing through security. Another set of escalators can be found before you enter the jetway at your assigned gate. Before our flight, we used the British Airways North Lounge, which was directly in front of security. The lounge included a separate room with a perfect view of one of Heathrow's runways. The food and the coffee at the lounge was super delicious and it was very close to our assigned gate. read more

I am so terribly upset with my experience at this airport! I had a connection flight from the Charles De Gaulle Airport in Paris to Heathrow Airport. While waiting for my flight in Paris, I shopped at the duty free store and bought a really nice large glass Eiffel Tower filled with virgin olive oil. This was supposed to be a gift for my dad, but the guy at the security check confiscated my bottle! He claimed that it exceeded the 100mL limit. I said that I purchased it at the CDG airport and had my receipt, but he claimed that I could've faked the receipt. How stupid is that? What's the point of shopping duty free if my purchase ends up being discarded at the connection flight?? This is unheard of! I asked if he could dump the olive oil and give me the Eiffel Tower but he said it was too late to dump any liquids. Did he throw my purchase in the trash? NO! He placed it on the bottom of a shelf, probably so he could take it home later! The girl behind me also got her jar of fig jam from Greece confiscated. We joked that he has the starting components of a charcuterie board! Take a few more things and he's all set! LOL Aside from this very unpleasant experience, I also did not appreciate that I was jammed in to an overly crowded bus to be shuttled to my plane that was at some distant terminal 15 minutes away. We were packed like sardines and it was more crowded than the subway in New York! I will make a mental note to avoid connections at Heathrow Airport! read more

Definitely a big difference in waiting at a terminal, vs arriving into it and quickly trying to make it to the next destination. We arrived into Heathrow at Terminal 3 from the US, and realized that the bus that we needed had only stops at Terminal 4 and Terminal 5. I wasn't familiar with how long it would take for everything, so actually booked a bus ticket more than 2 hours after initial arrival. And I actually felt that wasn't too much afterwards. Going through passport control, customs and immigration didn't take too long at all in Terminal 5. Since we were now landside, we were advised to take the subway, using a particular branch named Heathrow Express (if we had stayed airside, there are buses the run between the terminals). So you have to walk a while, following signs to get to the Underground (aka the Tube), to get to self service ticket kiosks. You need a ticket to enter the system, so there are dedicated kiosks where you enter the number of passengers and it will spit out free tickets for you. I didn't think much of it, but the ticket is important. You must use it to get past the toll gate, and remember to grab the ticket back once it spits it out. You then follow signs (and walk quite a bit) to find the platform that has trains running to Terminal 4 and Terminal 5 (they are different trains)...they seem to run every 15 minutes or so. It's not walkable between the terminals and took a bit of time to get to Terminal 5. Once you exit, you must use the ticket from before to exit properly. From there, you enter the madness of the busy Terminal 5. This is a BIG terminal, not only in the real estate it covers, but also how high it goes. The top floor is where checkin occurs, and taking an elevator is almost mandatory to get up there. Everyone was queuing to get to the next elevator, which we did as well. It will take you quite a bit up into the air (and quite visible since a lot of transparent glass is used in this terminal). So once we made it up, we realized we had done the wrong thing, since everyone was trying to check their luggage. After a quick answer from a helpful security agent, we took the elevator back down to 0 (i had forgotten that the ground floor is 0 in the UK, not G) and slowly made our way to the bus stop area. It's very large, with many, many bays having buses load and unload passengers. It was quite chilly so took advantage of waiting inside until the time to board got closer. I noticed a robo-cleaner mopping the floors back and forth. There is free wifi with ads available throughout the terminal with really good coverage. We took advantage of it while waiting for our bus to arrive. read more

I flew out of Terminal 5 and what a great terminal. Everything went so smoothly. Plenty of clean restrooms. The signage is easy to follow. If you want to shop... this is the place... every major brand you could imagine. Forgot something at Harrods... no worries, you can get it here. Cartier, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, all major watch brands, and if you need scotch, a nice Macallan store. Best shopping ever!!! I've never seen anything like this in an airport. read more

Things you must know: -You need to scan your ticket at the security checkpoint at least 35 minutes prior to your flight. It's all automated so they will not let you through past that time frame, no matter what. -If your flight is cancelled or delayed, they'll tell you that you need to call a help line because the people at the counter can't help you. That's a lie. They can help you and if you're lucky, you'll get someone who goes above and beyond to get you on a flight! Talk to the people in person! -Once past security, things can still change. Keep an eye on the boards for changing flights or cancellations. Needless to say, we almost had a disastrous experience at Heathrow but thanks to Collins, an agent from British Airways, all was salvaged. read more

Wow! What an experience being able to visit this international airport. It's huuuge, so make sure you arrive early, read signs, and ask questions. There are food options and little grocery stores inside that allow anyone to find what they're looking for. The bathrooms are big, spacious and clean. It's fairly cold so if you have a layover dress warm. I had my first English breakfast here and it was better than I expected. My time here was enjoyable and definitely is an airport I plan to visit again when traveling. Recommended, and safe travels! read more

I have low expectations for ultra-sized airports, so Heathrow meets my "ok" bar, knowing it will never be stellar. I flew in as transit only. Layover time is 2 hours. We got through customs (auto scanners, no agent) and security reasonably fast as they weren't busy. After getting through, then it's wait time to see which gate we are going, which is not announced until half hour to one hour before departure. It's uncomfortable for some of us who want to settle in at the gate early. Ah, well. To kill time, there is plenty of shopping, eateries, and restaurants. My drug of choice is shopping, making a beeline to Harry Potter shop and Harrods. Time killed successfully. Lol. For an easy bite, Pret A Manger is always a good choice. read more

THis massive terminal at EGLL, was the first we landed at. After walking the super long jetway to the terminal, there was plenty of staff to help people navigate the vastness of the airport. The bathrooms were spotlessly clean, and there were plenty of signs and information boards to either get you to your baggage, or how to get to another terminal to make you connecting flight. With all of the technological advances when it comes to the immigration processing and the gorgeous, modern gates, you'd think this place would have a better working map, something that could help you plan your journey and better signage. Our flight from LHR to EDI was cancelled. The only real alternative was to get to LCY from LHR in less than 3 hours via the tube. Seems easy enough right? Google maps told me how to do it, intuition and having been in London before gave me the confidence. Well, I stumbled around the station like an idiot, desperately looking for the right train. Closed tube tracks, signs that say go this way but then turn you back around the way you came. It's ridiculous and the stress of it all probably stole 5 years of life from me. Coming back for our flight back to LAS was a bit easier. The signage was better exiting the gate and there were actual humans telling us which direction to go in. I forgot how intense large airports like this can be though. All the shops and people milling about. It took us a while to find seats but we were able to snag some near the quiet area. Once we knew where our gates would be, we took the tram (yes, there are trams within the same terminal, that's how big this place is) and all was well. I don't have anything against this airport but I'd advise you to have a plan A, B, C and D. read more

Overall our experience at Heathrow was positive. A lot of walking to get through customs. It seemed that the hallways were endless one after the other. More than 1.5 mile long. Many local planes to Europe were cancelled, so the airport was super crowded with long lines. The staff was very helpful and guided us through the security process. The security process was efficient and effortless. Then, Shopping galore with Harrods, Smith, and many well established brands. This is really one of the best shopping venue I have ever seen. Ideal to buy a little British souvenir. We checked in Business class and British Airways let family and children check first; which I feel is so appreciate. So, this was a positive connection through Heathrow. Now be aware that the U.K. departure taxes are notoriously high, around $628.40 fees. We also use the BA lounge that was spacious and welcoming. The food was meh at best but better than many international lounges. So BA has certainly raised their bar. read more

Travel is stressful enough and you don't need anything to add to that stress. Unfortunately, the zoo that is LHR T5 does that. To be frank, I'm actually surprised it's not worse than it is. The staff there do a great job to be sure it's organized chaos and not pandemonium. That's why I gave the rating a 3-star and not lower. However, it's just like a traffic jam on the road. When the number of cars exceeds the infrastructure, movement is restricted and you get slowdowns and back-ups. That is T5 in essence. I've used LHR many times before but it's always been one of the other terminals, typically flying Delta or KLM (with access to the wonderful Virgin Lounge!). But this flight was with BA and I began to see from the outset why the price was as good as it was. I was flying from Zurich to Brussels as my options were limited thanks to the DB strike (another subject for another day). I had to make a short-notice reservation and found the CHF 113 fare particularly attractive. But my wariness and temptation to ask "what have I done" began when I had to clear Immigration at ZRH because of leaving the Schengen Zone. This was only to check back into the EU when arriving at BRU. I would say that this is one of the door prizes for Brexit, but as I recall the UK never was a signatory of that part of Schengen anyway. My flight from Zurich was delayed by about an hour due to a mechanical issue. Those things happen but they do cause issues. Fortunately, I had enough time for my connection. I felt badly for those who had to bus to a different terminal...KMN. However, though I did have enough time for my connection, I could say that anything much less than I had would have caused trouble due to the connection process in T5. The biggest problem was having to go back through security as apparently Swiss security is lacking. Either that or they believe I or someone else can acquire a WMD in the Zurich Airport gate area or upon initial deplaning at Heathrow. Once you get through the security bottleneck, the treat that awaits you is a crowded terminal with no place to sit. The mass of people would be impressive if it weren't so annoying. The people moving here and there is a dizzying sight. To it's credit, T5 has a nicer look, feel and touch than the other terminals at LHR, which is to be expected because it's newer. But because it's newer, you would have thought the design would have accounted better for travel volume. It looks like maybe it needed to be expanded from the time they built it. I won't be using BA for a connection again anytime soon. I'm not a fan. If I had been terminating at LHR, that might have been tolerable. But to connect...no thank you. And I suppose the same goes for an originating flight out of T5. The stress induced by overcrowding and the ensuing confusion is more than I need when flying. The point of travel is indeed to get to where you're going, but there's something be said for not making the journey unnecessarily unpleasant. read more

Heathrow is a major airport and is busy as all dickens but I love it. So much to see and explore. Service is generally quick and the key to getting through is to have a good attitude. Be positive. Be happy and enjoy Heathrow. read more
