Really good food (for what we tried so far) and lots of yummy sounding options. My best friend and I had an early dinner. We each split the Philly cheesesteak and the California Lucy. Our waitress was accommodating in our requesting to mix and match our sandwiches by having them cut in half. I had the mac and cheese as a side and my friend had the coleslaw. Stopped in for dinner and it is a pretty cool place. Their was live music and a decent crowd. I ordered the "jumbo smoked wings"and a small dinner salad. The wings had a really good smoke but the kitchen dried a bunch of them out in the fryer. They were more normal size then jukbo. If they could get the wings from the smoker onto the plate they would be off the hook good! Now, of all things the dinner salad!!! It was sooooo good. Seriously, I have never commented on a salad! I have to...great fresh mixed greens (no fake lettuce) red onion, cucumber, red and yellow cherry tomatoes, shaved parmesan cheese...it was really god! Would I go back, yes and probably will. In my opinion is actually sneaky the way the menu is. I ordered two Old Fashioned and I was charged $44 What? $44 dollars? I mean, they are tasty, but not $22 dollars tasty. Not even in an upscale restaurant have I been charged $22 for an Old Fashioned. Fine, but add the prices plainly and simple to the menu so I can at least discern if I want to spend that kind of money for a drink. I travel a lot for business and love to find local hotspots. This place was right next door to my hotel so I can here as I was tired after a 6 hour drive. No host at the front desk, restaurant was limpid with music and live music in the patio. Another couple came in 5 minutes after me and they were greeted instantly. As for me, well, that couple was white and I'm Asian and a single tonight so screw me. I finally got seated, and a very cute waitress said hello and asked for my drink order. I was about to thank her and she took off. Less than a minute later, she came back with my drink and asked if was ready or needed more time. I ordered the brisket plate. My food came out in 5 minutes. The brisket was dry but edible but the cornbread was awesome. My waitress came by to ask how the food looked and I commented on the cornbread and she said "great" and walked away. I didn't see her until I pushed my plate aside. I never new her name and she never came by to ask me for another drink until after dinner. Overall experience? I was in and out in 20 minutes and that's with a 7 minute wait at the front. As for me coming back to this place? HELL NO. There was no attempt to be engaging or welcoming or make me feel at home here. Plus, the food was marginal at best. I would have given at least 3 stars if the waitress was a little nicer to me or showed that she cared, but it seemed as if she was at the end of her shift and wanted to get the hell out of here. read more

I come to Lone Oak Grill from time to time for work events, so my review is applicable to their party room in the back. We usually get drinks and light buffet catering. Overall this is a decent place to have a work event - the room is quiet and the service is good. My one complaint is - they have a lot of tables and chairs in the room, but no one ever sits there, and it's gets a bit crowded by the open area. Tall tables without chairs would have worked much better for a corporate mingling event. The food is OK, pizza is a little bland, but thin crust and very light. Mac and cheese, pulled pork and wings were nice. Drinks were weak and bland. My Margarita must have had a tablespoon of salt in it, in addition to the salt on the rim, and I did not taste any tequila in it. Beer list was good. read more

The pot roast bites were a surprise. Usually one thinks of finger foods when you see "bites," but we were certainly not disappointed after the recalibration. Tried out Lone Oak Grill for dinner with another couple last night and it was a nice place. The service was very good, the menu is a bit smaller but with a good variety of options, and the food was good. We sat in a nice big booth behind the hostess stand and it was great to have a booth that can seat 6 people. We only had 4 in our party last night, but you rarely find that, and as people who prefer booths that is a plus for when we are going with a little bigger group. The noise level was a little off-putting as there was live music so the volume in there made conversation a little more challenging, and we weren't even right near the band. I wouldn't have wanted to be closer because we wouldn't have been able to have a conversation as easily. The food was good. I had a bowl of the wild rice soup (smokey, creamy, needed a bit of salt and maybe something else to wake up something other than the smoke but good) and I ordered the Steak tips which is an appetizer actually, but was very good! I kept finding my husband stealing pieces until I gave him "the look" :) My husband had the brisket gyro which was terrific and tasty, and their fries were very good too! Friend had a hangover burger which he enjoyed and made me wish I'd ordered the mushroom swiss burger (next time), and his wife ordered a salad which she liked as well. The beer list is terrific with a great representation of choices from the various categories of beer (lagers, IPA, Amber's etc). Made choosing more time consuming, but they have great descriptions for each which was nice so you have a good idea of the beer before making a choice. That was great! One of our favorite places to eat in Eagan. Great casual/relaxed atmosphere, great beer/wine/spirit collection, and delicious food. They regularly have live music which adds a lot to the atmosphere. BBQ was dry and sauce options were lacking a mainstream option - bottles were disgustingly dirty. Corn bread used to be great but was also dry. Beans were were not good. I'm just going to say this right off the bat: This place is completely hidden and sort of a pain in the ass to get to. I also take a slight issue with the name. It's reminiscent of a diner to me (thus invoking visions of diner-esque food). As a result, I was pleasantly surprised to see a shitload of smoked meats on their menu when we got there. There are plenty of 'grills' around, but I think if their name was changed to 'Lone Oak Smokehouse' they'd get a lot more traffic as MN is severely lacking on that front. That being said, while our experience was a favorable one, it wasn't without its flaws. I'll break it down. - The first impressive thing I took note of was the fact that they have an extensive 'a la carte' menu for both their meats and side dishes. I ended up getting a large variety of meat and sides of 15 bucks which made me happy as fuck. - The ribs, shrimp and bacon were all amazing. When I smoke ribs at home, I tend to prefer them a little more 'fall off the bone' than these, but they retained a nice tenderness and a heavy smokiness that I really enjoyed. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and had a good amount of cajun spice. The bacon? Fucccckk. The fat was so perfectly rendered that it literally melted in your mouth. I could eat a whole goddamn tray of it. - The chicken, while spiced well, was definitely on the dry side. I'm a gigantic fan of chicken jerky and it was somewhat reminiscent of that (especially the thinner pieces). I'd order it again because I'm a protein hound and I don't mind the chew, but... if you're a fan of juicy poultry, don't get too excited. - The green were some of the tastiest I've ever eaten, period. Slightly spicy, perfectly salted, *not* swimming in a tub of flavorless liquid and meaty in texture. - The mac and cheese was bland as all hell and sticky. The noodles weren't overcooked which was nice but everything else failed. - The baked beans, while nothing particularly special, did the job. They had a nice spiciness to them but lacked the sweetness typical of the dish. The portion was very hearty for 2 bucks, though. - The cornbread (according to my mom--I'm not a fan in general and didn't try it) was dry and dull. She knows her cornbread so I trust her opinion. Yet another sports bar that is so loud you can't hear yourself think that serves pre-processed frozen burger patties that taste like gas grill and over-seasoned fries. Yup, this will do well in suburban twin cities, where the 300lb.+ crowd that has no sense of what real food should taste like will keep this place in business. If you are a typical suburbanite that loves cheap crappy food like 99% of the other places around here serve, have at it... this was made for you. It's a little weird that their booths are in the middle of the dining floor, but we can get over that...service from both sides and no sliding in and out. The service was fine. If I ever came here again, I'd probably get these Duroc Smoked Pork Chop - way too sweet, flavors didn't work, brussel sprouts I usually like, but they tasted like they were coated in a glaze or maple syrup, the mashed potatoes were bland (would not get this again...this was recommended by server) I meant it's a fine place, but their food quality could use an improvement and balance in flavors. Went with my roommates on a Sunday evening, it was not too busy, and the hostess sat us right away. There ends the positives. 1. When our waitress finally came over we all ordered waters, and I asked for a lemon with mine. 5 minutes later waters came, no lemon. Ok it happens. No big deal, right? Wait for it... 2. We all decide to get multiple apps as it was happy hour and then some entrees. 15-20 minutes went by without anyone checking on us or coming to take our order. 3. We order 5 appetizers and two entrees between three people, one at a time specifying our portions of the order. This part seems to go without incident. 4. Another 20-30 minutes pass before our food is brought out by someone other than our waitress. Missing one of the appetizers with another made incorrectly. And no one had bothered to bring us silverware. So we waited. And waited. Picking at a couple of the apps we could until I got up and went to the bar to ask for flatware myself. 5. When we mentioned the appetizer having been brought out as an incorrect order (cheese fries instead of chili cheese.) the waitress grabbed the plate and disappeared for about 5 minutes and came back with the same fries only with a ladle of chili dumped on top of what was clearly lukewarm fries to begin with (our food had to have been sitting and ready for at least 10 minutes based on the temp of at least 2/3 of it.) 6. My friend had ordered jambalaya and received no spoon. My mango habanero wings were a sad excuse for mango habanero. Other than being barely sauced in a thin watery poor excuse for a sauce, my complaint is they weren't spicy, my friend loved them because they weren't spicy. Do not call something habanero if it isn't spicy! My pasta was bland and incredibly expensive for the 5 tiny pearls of mozzarella and diced tomatoes they tossed on top. No flavor. The chili cheese fries weren't eaten, the tots with cheese and I believe pulled pork were actually pretty decent. 7. We sat again with no interaction from any of the staff for another 10 min after finishing what we could of our food, before getting the chance to ask for boxes and the checks. We most definitely will not be back. Which is unfortunate because we live quite close and wanted to find a local spot we could frequent. They are trying....but keep on trying is my suggestion. I'm going to give her a break, but our lunch shouldn't have taken that long. We were there for over an hour. We were seated in a section with 3 other tables around 11:40. 1 was seated after us, 1 was seated just before us and one was seated long before us. We order before the 2 other groups and got our food long after. We started with the cheese curds, I only had a couple, but there were oily and kind greasy. These came quickly, drink refills and the meals did not. I ordered the vegan SW veggies soup and cornbread, others ordered a burger and one attempted to order the grilled cheese with sweet potato fries. I asked what was in the soup and was told veggies in broth. Uh, okay. It ended up being a bean soup with corn, tomatoes in a veggie broth. When the sweet potato fries were ordered, she was told, "we're out. We are waiting on the shipment." What would Robert Irvine say if this were Restaurant Impossible? He would not be happy. The food took over 30 mins to arrive. meanwhile everyone around us had received their food and check. The food was fine, but I think were kind of disappointed in the service. They must still be working out the kinks. If they stepped up the service, cut back on the gigantic menu and maybe had some lunch specials (soup, salad, sandwich choices), I might be more apt to give it another shot. If you are staying at one of the nearby hotels and don't want to drive somewhere for dinner, then Lone Oak Grill is a good place to go. If you are contemplating actually driving to Lone Oak Grill for a meal, I'd recommend reconsidering. With that being said, if you want to come for the beer on a weekend afternoon or something, that's a different story. The menu is extremely extremely unimpressive. I ordered the pulled chicken sandwich, and the chicken was a strange texture and very bland. My fiancé ordered the BBQ burger and enjoyed it, but the chicken wings we got for an appetizer were absolutely dreadful (and looked like little pterodactyl dinosaur wings!) The environment at Lone Oak Grill on a weekend afternoon seems very relaxed and fun, with cornhole set up outside and both patio and indoor seating available for guests. The building is kind-of hidden behind the Hampton Inn and Residence Inn, and it doesn't look like it really fits in considering how new and nice it is compared to the hotels. The owners of Lone Oak Grill definitely did a good job designing the place, it looks good, and I bet it would do amazing if it was in a busier area off of a main road. But anyways, don't come here for the food. If you want to come, come for the drinks or the atmosphere, otherwise you might be disappointed. read more

Just off I-35E, and just south of I-494, it convenient place to stop on the way home for dinner or happy hour. Overall pleasant atmosphere with above average service. The food itself is what I would call "OK" - not bad enough to send back, but not good enough to tell someone that they should try it out if you were cornered for a reference.. They seem to substitute portion size for flavor. For instance, when I ordered the chicken & rib platter, it came out on a small baking sheet - a smoked chicken breast, about a 1/2 dozen ribs, and a couple of sides - more then you can eat in a sitting. The chef has decided to be completely dependent on the smoker, rather then using a spice rub to "pre flavor" the meat.....his choice, but it does leave you with the "this isn't so special" feeling. Only tried it once, but plan on going back around at a later date - I've got to imagine the place is a bit more crazy on the weekends then a Wednesday night. -- Update - had dinner there a few weeks back....place was packed and service was great, but once again the food was a bit underseasoned.
