Service and ambiance was great but the burger was way way over salted. I told her mostly in case the cook was inadvertently over salting all the burgers. She shrugged me off. She offered to take half off the bill but because I ate it anyway she put it back in the bill. Which is fair, but at the same time kinda bitchy from a customer service point of view. And then automatically gave me the bill without me asking for it or if I was finished. It's an awesome burger and i hope this was a fluke, But it still left a bad aftertaste in my mouth beyond the salt. read more

I can't stop giving this place five stars! Great neighborhood place! Tonight I tried a burger for the first time, the JR Mac burger which is a lot like a Big Mac. It was seasoned and cooked perfectly, with sweet onions, nice juicy patty, good quality lettuce and tomato. It's only $10.75 with fries but I can't resist their onion rings. It's a great dive with friendly staff and customers. I live around the corner so I've been trying everything on the menu and it's all very fresh and good! read more

Honestly, I'm not a burger person, or if I am I like my fancy stuff. For some reason last night I was craving just a simple bacon cheeseburger. You guys this burger was HUGE. And it hit the spot. So simple and so delicious. The inside of the joint was very simple and I liked it like that. I could tell there were mostly regulars inside which I felt out of place but I also really respect that about a place. I come here like once a week. Fantastic food!! I highly recommend the fries chicken sandwich as a wrap. Also their cheese curds are HEAVENLY. My friend (from Wisconsin, so she's an expert) said they're the second best she's ever had. Very high praise I promise. Great spot for good food and drink. Nutin' fancy and that's it's charm. Local crowd. The salads are 'yuge and the prices are super reasonable. Burgers are excellent. Some appetizers are a little lacking - wings were kinda dry and skinny and the chicken strips were akin to a budget, frozen brand, but it could have been a bad night. Went there tonight. Initially, just two of us. Bartender/waitstaff never came over in the time we were there while doing nothing but talking to the regulars. We are talking blatantly ignored for at least 10 minutes. Two friends joined us and this continued. Others were to join us, but we got up and left. Absolute worst service, or lack there of, ever. We have been going there for almost a year and there is a bartender who is super friendly and kicks butt in the service department. We really like the food there, but will not go back if this particular person is working. Can't even begin to understand why someone would ever behave this way. Ended up here after the location my group had booked for a meeting just down the road was unexpectedly closed. Really decent little place. Our server was not super thrilled about us from what I could tell, but that did not stop her from being very efficient in her service. Food was prompt in arriving and was delicious from all accounts. I wish the beer selection was a BIT more expansive, but... I likely won't seek this place out to return to, but I would without any reservation if the situation arose again. My friend just moved around the corner and treated us to a meal after moving her in. With a Saturday bloody bar and amazing onion rings. I knew we'd be back. Our second trip to Jr Macs provided us an opportunity to really get a taste of what this down home bar is all about. There's a really good sense of community here - something you'd find in west central small town MN or rural Wisconsin. Our orders came out quickly enough, but with the wrong sides (swapped onion rings for fries, etc). The waitress wasn't overly attentive, but we were able to be in and out within an hour. read more

First time in this joint, hometown local kickback bar is what I expected. Bar was largely open and I sat down in front of two dollar bills on the counter, assuming someone just left leaving a tip. I was told someone was sitting there by bartender. I moved two seats over and no one ever sat down where I first started. Bartender finally served me when she had to. Quickly slammed a beer and between 3 total bartenders took about an hour to get another beer and finally cash out. I'll call it like it is, maybe they don't give a crap about you unless you're a regular. Maybe it's race? I happen to be a nice sun tanned brown gentlemen and the only one inside the establishment. Great St. Paul dive bar. Food was good and the drinks were cold. Simple and easy. Stopped to watch the highschool hockey games.

St. Patrick's Day weekend. Had to get my corned beef and cabbage and I heard it was good here. My server was very good, but they need some kind of a bell system for when the food is ready. I noticed a plate that was up on my way to the bathroom. It was still there when I was done and I just knew it was my order. After I sat back down I noticed my waitress finally heading over. Yep, it was cool when I got it. But it was my first meal that day and I didn't want to wait even longer. It sure was flavorful and tender. The cabbage was warm and delicious. Cabbage can be bland but they made it really good. However the throwaway carrots and boiled potatoes were bland. A word about the bathroom, for a tight space someone had a brain and organized it very well. The toilet paper dispenser is not right next to your thigh and is raised up and the door opens out. Definitely the local pub feel and I'd like to try it after lent. read more

This is hit or miss. We live in the neighborhood, so have been eating here for 25 years. The tacos always used to be really good but the last two times we went for tacos, they weren't as good. The menu isn't very big but adequate. The mozzarollies are usually dependably good, if they have them. You can't get these in any other restaurant. The place is in desperate need of repair. The benches are all loose and shift when you sit on them, seats are ripped - and they've been this way for years. I've only used the women's restroom twice in all these years because it is so disgusting and it was an emergency. I live close, so I always use the bathroom before I leave home and go right home after--or another place where I will use the restroom. I saw the review about the basement party room and it's true. This place does need a deep cleaning and some repairs. It would be nice to see it happen, so the neighborhood customers feel like the owners care if we come back or not. read more

First time here, horrible experience. Went in this little dive bar with my cousin, sat down and waited 5 min for bartender to take our order. Barely anyone here just lazy service. After we finished our 1 beer each we wated almosg 10 min while 1 bartender wodked veeerrrrryyyy sllllloooowwwww and the other that took our order in the first place flirted with a customer. Finally I went up to the bartender and asked for my bill. Remember, we waited almost 10 min with empty glasses. Paid, no tip, left. One of the worst services I've experienced at a bar. read more

Actually, the burgers are quite good -- I like the double burger (I forget its name). The menu is fairly spartan, but there is someone in the kitchen who knows what they are doing. The only negative about this place is that the regulars are maybe TOO comfortable and familiar and tend to forget that there are others who are just trying to enjoy a nice meal and cold beer. A lot of loud mouths here, although they seem harmless and good-spirited. The owners and staff are great. I prefer the food at JR Mac's over that at Shamrocks a little further up West 7th. read more

Came on a Wednesday night after just moving to the neighborhood and the weather was amazing to sit on the patio. Waiter was super friendly for a first timer and let us know that the burgers were on special for 7.50$ and I have to say this was not only the prettiest but the tastiest burger I have had in Minnesota. I go to JR Mac's on Wednesdays for Bingo! I started going when I was pregnant so I could hang out with friends who still liked to drink a couple beers. It's a rarity now that I get to go...having a 15 month old dampers the social life :) I get really excited now about seeing the Wednesday night waitress (even though she gets overwhelmed by herself) and the bingo callers! When there isn't many people the pots are small but easy to win...when there's a crowd the pots are huge but hard to win. Either way it's a great time. The owner even put up a picture of some of is bingo regs on the wall. The food is decently priced and tasty. The steak sandwich and fries is the most expensive thing on the menu at $6.95 I believe. The menu is littered with bar food regulars and a few originals. The cooks back there do a great job though. read more

My quest to conquer W 7th has brought me to this great neighborhood bar. We heard the burgers were good so we headed over on a Sunday afternoon to see for ourselves. First thing I noticed was the bar was kind of in a weird area. Its a circular shape but if you sit on one side you are basically sitting with your back against the window. Not a lot of beers on tap, but they have a decent amount of cans and bottles on hand. I had to make sure their Windsor tasted alright so I got a Windsor Coke. Ordered the JR Mac burger and it was legit, basically a better version of the Big Mac. The patrons and the staff were friendly and welcoming. Will have to come back and try the wings. read more

This is an interesting working class establishment. I think the most expensive thing on the entire menu was $6.95, and the beers were super cheap. I walked out only spending $22 for a burger, fries and 4 Summits. The bartender and all the rest of the patrons were very nice. They have pull tabs, some arcade games including a pinball machine, and Bingo on Wednesday nights. :-) read more

Love the Burgers, the corned beef, soups are great and their homemade (think native american fry bread) tacos, crunchy fried mushrooms are great. Great neighborhood bar; yes, the regulars certainly make themselves at home and occassionally shout an "f" bomb out when their team is losing, but it beat sitting in an Applebee's. Wait staff are friendly. My mom is addicted to their hamburgers; she swears they are magical-I don't like burgers and I crave their's. I call them crack burgers. Their hot turkey sandwich (I think on Tuesday's) is fantastic. A must try read more
